Happy First Day of Autumn!

Yeah – the cooler weather is finally getting here.  I just love Autumn – or Fall – whichever you prefer.  I love the cooler weather.  I love that it means that it’s almost the holidays.  And this year, mom says it means I can run and jump in the leaves in the back yard.  I totally can’t wait.

Happy Autumn my friends!  XOXO – Bacon

Happy Autumn My Friends

Today marks the beginning of Autumn here in the States.  This means cooler weather – squeals with delight.  I’m so ready!  This heat has almost gotten to me.  I hate heat.  I’d much rather be cool and running around the Hotel Thompson having fun with everyone.  So today my friends – Happy Autumn!

It’s Time

It’s Time!  Well, it’s not the time but it’s getting closer.  You do know what I’m talking about my friends.  Fall or Autumn – whichever one you call it.  The one time of the year that my mom looks forward to.  You know, the beautiful colors, the pumpkins, the cooler weather, the changing of the leaves, the start of the holidays, the lighting of candles and fireplaces on a cool night, the snuggling during buggy rides on the farm.

STOP!  STOP!  STOP!  STOP!  STOP!

Who am I trying to kid?  I’m sure Fall/Autumn means all of those things to some people.  But to mom, it means getting out the Ugg boots and trying Pumpkin everything.  You don’t believe me?  Look at the goodies she had this past weekend.  I’m sorry friends – it has started.  So if you see my mom wearing her Uggs with hands fully loaded of pumpkin stuff in the market, make sure you give her a hand okay.  Happy shopping!

Journey with Friends

Welcome my friends to our weekly issue of Journey with Friends.  This is a time that we come together for support, for encouragement, for fellowship – all with one single goal in mind – to live better.  Welcome to our journey to share our goals and our accomplishments and our disappointments and frustrations.

Together we can do this!

Hello friends.  How did you do last week?  It still remains so hot here.  It’s almost unbearable.  All you want to do is stay inside anywhere near a fan or the air conditioner.  We are all so ready for a bit of cooler weather here in the south.  It seemed like last year, we went straight from winter to HOT summer with no in between of Spring.  I’m hoping that we have some fall this year.  That’s my favorite time of the year – you?  I love watching the leaves change and everything starting to go into hibernation.

This week, we are stepping things up here at the Hotel Thompson.  We have been straying here/there and sometimes more there then it should be.  With that in mind, we are going to do better.  It’s also suppose to rain some this week.  I’m hoping that it brings some cooler weather with that rain.  So much easier to breathe without the heat.  I did walk 4.73 miles – not my best but I’m not hating that with this weather.

So, how did you do my friends and what are your plans for this week?

Miles Walked Since 06/13/2016:  63.57 miles

Dear Bacon

Dear Bacon – There.  I’m ready for Winter.  Bring it on Mother Nature.  I’m ready to get rid of the heat and welcome the cooler weather.  My scarf is ready and I’m waiting.  Tap.tap.tap.  That’s my paws tapping while I’m waiting.  When is this winter suppose to get here pal?  Signed Scarf Dog

Dear Scarf Dog – Oh my friend.  I agree with you about weather.  And you do look so very sharp in your scarf – you will be ready for it when Mother Nature decides to play nice.  Now, we have had some cooler days and I can tell with my piggy senses that it’s coming.  But winter is still a far piece away.  Autumn will be here September 23.  Winter is not officially here until December December 21.  So we do have some time.  But Autumn does bring cooler weather too.  And this little oinker can’t wait!  Until then, stay cool my friend.

Dear Bacon – Sometimes you just need a sleep buddy to hold on to to keep the nightmares away.  It’s always better knowing someone is there for you.  Do you have a sleep buddy?  Signed Ginger Twins

Dear Ginger Twins – I think that’s a fabulous idea my friends.  Mom and dad go to sleep holding hands.  They say that otters do the same thing so they don’t float away from each other in the water.  You see, lots of anipals do this and I do believe it’s a wonderful way to fall off to sleep knowing someone has your paw.  Sometimes I sleep with mom/dad and get close to them.  Other times, Houdini or Mouse Girl will bunk with me and lay real close.

Dear Bacon – It’s not bad enough that I have to wear the cone of shame.  Oh no.  I should have known something was up when my human dad wanted to hold me for a second.  I could feel him doing something to my cone of shame but didn’t know what.  That is until I met up with the mirror and saw his creation.  Really dad?  Perhaps I should get you a cone of shame?  Signed Bat Cat

Dear Bat Cat – I have to admit it my friend but that cone of shame is priceless.  How many other purr things do you know that can say their cone of shame was made just for them.  I say wear it with pride and hey give your human daddy some slack.  His creativity could make you ‘the cat’ of the neighborhood.  Give it a test and see what I mean.  Others will be so jealous!

Dear Bacon – Okay I let the humans sleep in on the weekend.  I didn’t pounce on them and wake them up.  I showed respect and refrained from barking my head off.  But this is where I draw the line.  It is now noon and my bowl is empty.  I’m going to start wasting away soon without my food.  Darn these paws.  If I had fingers, I could get my own food out of the bag and refrigerator.  Humans – WAKE UP.  Signed Hungry Jack

Dear Hungry Jack – WOW – noon huh?  That is total control on your part my friend.  Perhaps pull the humans blankets off of them?  They will wake up quickly with that.  And this picture is priceless for them.  Perhaps email or text it to their magical cell phones.  They wake up pretty quick when those things ring too.  Hope you get fed soon 🙂

.

REMEMBER friends.  Dear Bacon can’t happen without YOU.  Please continue to send me your pictures and questions via email.

Shopping Around the World

My friend Fozzie and I have scheduled a group posting today of Shopping Around the World.   We thought it would be interesting to see the differences between different countries all over. Here are our prices for the following from our area – Georgia USA.

 Items to price this month:

  • Spring/Summer is quickly approaching my friends on this side of the world.  On the other side of the world, Autumn/Winter is quickly approaching.  That is if Mother Nature starts playing well with others 🙂  It was suggested to post what you pay during this time of year for the month for your heating and/or air conditioning.  What temperature do you set your thermostat on?  Discuss.  Okay we keep it pretty cool here at the Hotel Thompson.  Mom likes to hang meat sometimes so daddy has to keep her in check.  Our monthly bill is a ‘flat rate’ bill.  We pay the same thing every month for 12 months.  Sometimes we use more watts than other months but it makes up the difference over the year.  We pay right at $205.00 a month in electrical – heating/air conditioning.  Our house is totally electric – no gas at all here… unless you count the gas that comes from this oinker – snorts and rolls with piggy laughter.
  • Meat.  Fajita beef.  We buy a pound package for $4.99 at the market.  It’s already cut in small slices.  All you have to do is brown.
  • Vegetable.  Head of cabbage.  When we are lucky, we can get this as cheap as $0.29 a pound.  This week though we paid $0.49 a pound.  An entire head cost us around $1.26 – awesome deal.  Have you ever eaten the core of a cabbage?  Mom highly recommends it.  It has a bit of a spicy flavor and is awesome!
  • Random Item.   A can of peanuts.  We buy the store brand for only $2.99 a can.
  • Homemade Dish.  See Below 🙂 This entire meal costs less than $5.00 for two people – and you have leftovers the next day for lunch!

A ‘go to’ dish here at the Hotel Thompson is our version of a Chinese dish.  This is easy and takes less than 15 minutes to prepare.  It’s a huge hit!  We take the fajita beef and brown it in a skillet with a little bit of olive oil.  While that is browning, we use two boxes of the Lo Mein noodles that you can buy in the store for $0.99 each.  They come with the seasoning packs.  You open the packs, fill them with water and microwave them according to the package.  While the fajita beef is almost brown, add some chopped up cabbage and cook together.  When the Lo Mein noodles are done, pour them into your mixture of fajita beef and cabbage, add the seasoning mix packets, stir together and cover.  When the noodles have come together and the cabbage is soft but yet still has a crunch to it, top with peanuts and sesame seeds for taste.  There you go – instant meal that will please and is so delicious.  Remember to put a little back for lunch the next day.  Warms up wonderful!

I hope you had fun my friends with this month’s edition of Shopping Around the World.  Hope to see you shopping soon!
