Shopping Around the World and Bacon’s Show and Tell – Mark Your Calendars

Hello friends – Please be sure to mark your calendars with our important dates this month 🙂❤

Shopping Around the World

This month it is scheduled for December 30th – after the holiday so we can all make plans.  Since it is the Christmas holidays, this month we will again focus on appetizers, side dishes, salads, soups, main entrees or desserts.  What is something that you look forward to once a year at Christmas.  I mean yes we can have it throughout the year but having it at Christmas screams the holiday?  This gives you a wide variety of foods you can come up with.  Fix whatever your dish is, take pictures and post it with recipes and prices on December 30th on your blog.  Remember to link back to my blog posting so people can see yours.  This is a wonderful way to (1) meet new friends in blogville and (2) get some wonderful recipes.  And I’ll admit it.  This piggy has been known to visit on these days and lick the computer screen at some of your awesome dishes.  I’m just sayin’ – some of pictures look out of this world!!

Bacon’s Show and Tell

To me, what better time of the year to share some embarrassing stories from Christmas.  Did you gather as a family for dinner and someone do something hilarious?  Did you have a mishap and spill your plate?  Go ahead my friends, let’s talk about something funny our humans do or did during their Christmas holidays.  I know these stories will be good!  Bacon’s Show and Tell is scheduled for December 28th.  Remember to do your blog and link back to my blog so we can all see what everyone shares.  Thanks my friend – can’t wait for some great stories.

Dear Bacon

Dear Bacon – I made the mistake one day of showing my human that I had skills.  I know my way around under the hood.  And, I’m small so I can get into all of those hard to reach places.  Well since he found out, he’s put me to work at the garage.  I’m his ‘secret weapon’ that no one sees.  So the next time you get your car worked on, think about me.  Signed Monkey Wrench

Dear Monkey Wrench – Oh my piggy heavens!  Now the secret is out.  No wonder it always costs mom/dad and arm and a leg when they take their Jeep in for service.  The secret weapon is working on it.  WOW – I think you do have skills my little friend.  AND I do hope that your human knows that the price is high to maintain an excellent worker of your caliber.  You enjoy your tinkering!

Dear Bacon – After a while, one gets tired of waiting for the master to feed us.  Sometimes we have to take matters into our own paws.  I did just that.  I started a garden in the backyard.  Most dogs hide their bones but I on the other paw want to make food.  All kinds of delectable tastings so when I get hungry all I have to do is take a walk.  And don’t worry about watering – I have that covered if you know what I mean – barks!  Signed Farmer Pooch

Dear Farmer Pooch – hey I like the idea of having my walking grocery store in my own backyard.  I agree with all that you say… except for maybe the personal watering part.  I do hope that you wash that food before ingesting… just sayin’.  But in the meantime, do you think you can grow me some strawberries and watermelons?  I would really appreciate that my friend.  Thanks!

Dear Bacon –  There I was romping around the farm minding my own business.  That’s when my human picked me up to go shopping.  Heck I don’t mind.  I was already dressed and not doing much anyway.  So we went to our local hardware store so that they could get some material for the fences.  I sat in the kid seat minding my own business like a good little toddler.  So nothing to see here – just a kid in a buggy.  Do you like going out on field trips like this?  If so, where have you been?  Was it fun?  Did you sit in the buggy?  Signed Romping Kid

Dear Romping Kid – Now that is a vision to behold my friend.  Just a kid riding around in a buggy at the local hardware store.  What’s to see, right?  You look good and let me add that you probably acted better than some two legged kids in the store.  Am I right?  Snorts with piggy laughter.  Once when mom took me to the vet, we stopped by our local Home Depot store to pick up a few things.  Mom had my Radio Flyer in the Jeep with her.  She pulled it out, helped me in it and pulled me through the store.  It was also a vision to behold.  A pig being pulled in a Radio Flyer through the Home Depot.  I met a lot of people like I’m sure you did this date on your visit.

Dear Bacon – I don’t get it.  Mom put some milk in her cup.  She set the cup on the counter in front of me.  It was like she was inviting me to take a sip so I did.  Then she started snapping pictures like a Chinese tourist here at Walt Disney World.  I don’t get it.  And laughing – oh my gosh – I thought the woman was going to hurt herself she was laughing so hard.  Shaking my head – humans are weird.  Signed Nosey Kitty

Dear Nosey Kitty – Oh my goodness my friend.  I have to admit that *I* almost hurt myself snorting so hard looking at that picture.  Look closely – you can almost smell the fun factor – oh my gosh – I’m killing myself here.  It’s a great picture my friend.  Don’t worry.  Your human was just having fun – of course at your expense – but I have to admit it was hilarious.

Remember my friends – Dear Bacon can’t happen without YOU.  Please continue to send me your letters and pictures ❤

Shopping Around the World

This month we are highlighting appetizers or snacks.

This gives us so many choices to pick from and it was really hard for us to pick one.  But after I thought long and hard about it, I had to go with dad’s crack.  Snorts – no not that kind of crack.  Dad actually has a snack treat that we call crack.  Why crack?  Because he can’t keep his hands out of the container when mom fixes it – snorts with piggy laughter.  And when mom makes this, she fixes a whole bunch because it goes fast.  You can use it as a snack or bring it to a party.  So now, all of you can fix it and get hooked to on it.  Enjoy my friends.

img_6141Dad’s Crack

1 bag of short pretzels (dad prefers these but you can use any kind of pretzel you want).  For a bag of pretzels, we pay $1.29

2 bags of peanut butter morsels.  You find these on the baking aisle.  We paid $1.50 for each bag on this shopping trip.

2 boxes of movie theater sized Reeses Pieces (you know the kind they showed in the movie E.T – ha)  These were $1.00 each in the store

Optional – a bag of toasted coconut.  Sometimes dad likes this and other times he doesn’t.  A bag of coconut costs $2.49 in the store.

Now, first up.  If you are going to do the coconut you need to do this first.  Put the coconut on a tray and stick it in the oven.  Mom puts it under the broiler for a few minutes.  Keep an eye on it because it will burn quickly.  Toast the coconut and then set it aside to cool.

While your coconut is cooling, get a BIG bowl.  Yep the bigger the better in this case.  Pour in your entire bag of pretzels followed by your Reeses Pieces and peanut butter morsels.  When your coconut is cool, throw it into the party as well.  Then stir everything together and make sure it is nicely mingled.  Mom then packages the crack into individual containers for dad’s destruction.

So you see, it’s an easy snack that goes a long way and peeps love it!  The final cost for this snack is less than $9.00 (with coconut) and that should last either a couple of weeks,  one night at a party or two days with dad – snorts.  And never fear, if you don’t like peanut butter, just substitute items for what you do love.  For example any kind of chocolate candy and any kind of baking morsels.  Happy crack my friends.

Grocery Shopping Scare

IMG_0725.JPG

Oh dear piggy heavens!  I heard mommy screaming all the way inside of the Hotel Thompson last night.  She stopped on the way home at our local market for some supplies.  She loaded the groceries up in the back of her Jeep like normal.  When she got home, she opened the trunk and look who was in the bag of groceries.  Mommy said she almost wizzed herself.  How did Don Juan get into that bag and during the day time?  Squeals and runs for cover.

I’m telling you these elves are evil.  They turn up everywhere all of the time on their own!  I’m getting kind of scared now with Don Juan.  What if he does something like this to me?!  You will hear me squealing all the way to Australia.  I’m just telling you – the little guy freaks me out – totally!

.

He just better be glad he didn’t get into mom’s secret stash of white fudge covered Oreo’s.  I attached pictures for you to drool look over.  Licks piggy lips.  And don’t fear – mommy is not eating the entire box at one sitting … although that would be heaven in a box – snorts.  She is giving herself one every couple of days.

It was a LONG weekend – I mean really LONG

Oh my friends.  Have you ever had one of those weekends where you did so very much that you finally just prayed for Monday to get here STAT because of being tired?  Can you relate?  Mom and dad had one of those weekends.  Mom was already feeling slightly under the weather with her flare up.  But Sunday night, she could barely walk.  But I’m getting ahead of myself.  So this is what those two humans of mine did.

Saturday – They got up for breakfast early and tried a new restaurant.  Yes mom took pictures that I will post soon.  They looked good too.  After breakfast, they had to go to Kaiser to pick up some prescriptions.  Then mom finally got her nails done – which was long needed.  Then they went to Petsmart.  Trust me, all of us anipals here at the Hotel Thompson wanted to go to Petsmart.  But mom/dad said we couldn’t go because they were running all errands this morning before coming home to crash… which mom did 🙂  So after Petsmart and doing what dad said was ‘buying them out’ – rolls piggy eyes, they went to Wally World – Walmart for those that know the place.  Daddy then got a haircut and afterwards, he and mom looked around for some things they needed.  So, you see mom/dad did a LOT of walking all over the place.  Which normally wouldn’t be bad but with mom’s current flare up situation, it wasn’t good.  They left the house this morning around 8AM and didn’t get back home until way after 2PM.  Then they had to unload the Jeep and put everything up.  That’s a lot of work.  With mommy not feeling too well lately, daddy wanted to go someone special for their date night tonight.  So they left the house again at 4PM to go to a restaurant that is about 35 miles away.. not just any restaurant though.  They have crab legs 🙂  Yum…. not that they brought me any back tonight – snorts.

Sunday – They got up for round 2 of shopping and getting errands done.  They got up and went to a local place for breakfast – Cracker Barrel.  Afterwards they had to go to a home improvement store named Lowes.  Mom had some stuff she needed to return and they had pick up light bulbs and air filters for the Hotel Thompson.  Of course, one things leads to another and the next thing they know they have a buggy full of stuff.  But some of the things they found my friends – Oh my piggy heavens.  I’ll share with you on another post on that – my parents are too hilarious!  After dropping off these items at the Hotel Thompson, mom and dad wanted to go to another Wally World location to see if they had something they wanted that the other store didn’t… so off they went again.  Not only did they find some things they were looking for but of course they found some more stuff.  Did I mention that mommy *hates* shopping?  She does.  She can’t stand it.  So she waits and makes lists and then tries to get everything at once.  Silly mom huh?

Afterwards, it was time to do the monthly shopping so off they went to Kroger.  Once there, they had to pick up some other medicines they had filled at their pharmacy.  Then the major shopping for the Hotel Thompson.  And did I mention that mom is a HUGE coupon shopper?  She tells us anipals that she has to be so she can’t keep us accustomed to the way we are living.  I don’t get it – do you?  Mommy keeps up with her grocery list on her iPhone – there is actually an ap for that – snorts.  So when we are out of something, she adds it to the list for the next trip.  She also keeps up with her coupons on her iPhone.  Mom says the one thing about shopping with coupons is organization and that it takes time.  So they were at the grocery store for over two hours!  Daddy told mommy at one time that just because they have room in the Jeep now doesn’t mean she had to fill him to the rim in this one trip – snorts – silly daddy.  But then daddy also said that thank goodness they had Casper the new Jeep because everything they got would NOT have fit into Albert the Smart car.  See all of the stuff in the back of Casper.  You want to take a gander of the cost?  Now mom/dad grocery shop majorly every 2-3 months.  They will go every other week just to get milk and bread.  The total cost of this shopping spree came out to be $178.00 – she then handed the cashier all of her coupons and told him to ‘make it rain savings’.  Snorts – that’s my mommy.  After mom’s coupons and such, it came down to a final price of $127.00 – mom said even the cashier was shocked and amazed at that.  All of this for two somewhat adults, one pooch, two purr things and of course me who daddy says eats like a small child – snorts.

Then they came home to unload everything.  Now mom has a great conclusion to this.  She says, you shop all over the store and put things in your buggy.  Then you have to unload everything at the register to be rung up.  Then you have to load everything in your car to take home.  Then you get home and have to take everything into the house and THEN put everything up.  What a crap play huh?  But daddy knew that mommy wasn’t feeling to good so he parked her in the kitchen and he brought everything into the house for her… aaww – that was sweet.  Mom put everything up and crashed on the couch afterwards.

There she was medicated trying to get some rest while waiting for my Auntie Tina and cousins Savannah and Maverick to make it home.  See they are visiting for a couple of days and was due to arrive at Nanas Sunday night.  Mom finally got the call and her and dad then went to pick them all up for dinner.  They went to a great pizza place and talked, laughed and got caught up.  Afterwards, Auntie Tina and my cousins came to the Hotel Thompson to visit all of us anipals.  That was great fun!  We are all older now and loved the extra attention.  And a certain piggy may or may not have done some cute things for that extra attention – just sayin’ .  When they were done visiting, mom took them and Houdini up to Nana’s for a short visit.  She was only there for a little over 30 minutes and then came home.  After doing the medicines, for the week, she crashed pretty hard.  Who cards that it was only 7PM, right?

So you see, we are all kind of excited that this past weekend is done.  Completed.  Over.  Finished.  All but one little itsy bitsy thing.  What you ask?  Snorts – I’m glad you asked.  Tonight mom/dad are taking Houdini to a new groomer.  This should be fun.  Their appointment is at 6PM, right after mom’s work.  Houdini doesn’t know yet.  I’ll keep you posted on the results my friends.  And one little question, is it the weekend yet?  Snorts
