Who could ask for a better day? The first Sunday of August is always Friendship Day. Isn’t that a wonderful day to celebrate? What is better than friends – whether they come in the human form or the animal form. Friends are always there with us in good times and in bad times, to share special moments in our lives. Sometimes all it takes is just a smile, holding a hand, a hug or just an ear or shoulder to cry on.
Friendship Day should be celebrated by phone, in person or by reaching out in an email or blog. You don’t have to live next door to show someone how much you care. Express your friendship in some way today and show the ones that you love what they mean to you.
NOTE FROM PIGLOVE –
We here at Piglove would like to tell all of our friends here how much we love and appreciate them. You put up with our silliness, our sometimes seriousness (although it doesn’t happen often) and our whack-o ways. We started Piglove as an outlet to share memories of Bacon… a cute little miniature pot bellied pig. You have helped me to personally grow and do something that I love, to write and make people laugh. I would like to take this time on Friendship Day and tell each and everyone of you – Thank You for being our friends. We cherish our times, our talks, our emails and phone calls. We cherish your ‘go with this’ attitude when we come up with something whacky and new. You can never imagine how much your friendship means to us. Here’s to another year of great posting, inter-action with our friends and much laughter – Bacon’s humans

Of all of the important holidays I can tell you about, today seems to be the most important in my book. It is International Day of Friendship. The world is filled with too much hate, too many wars, too much prejudice and way too many disagreements. Today, we should put all of that aside and reach out to each other and say, “Hello friend happy friendship day!”
This is just not a backyard problem or a school playground problem. This is a worldwide problem. A problem that needs to come to an end. Everyone has differences – we wouldn’t be individuals if we didn’t. But when you look down to it, we all want to be happy and what better way than to get along.
Today let’s make friends with different people, different cultures and different countries. Extend your hand – or an olive branch – and say hello friend. Say hello to your neighbor, to the stranger at the market and say hello to a person that you see everyday but you don’t even know their name. Today is the day to make a friend near and far.
To all of our friends, we at the Hotel Thompson would like to say thank you for being our friend – happy friendship day. And to those that don’t know us yet, Happy Friendship Day. May we get to know you better today and in the future!

July 22 is National Parents Day. Everyone has a parent – 🙂 Today is a special day to honor your mother and father – biological or adopted. I know Bacon appreciates the time he spent with his biological mother and father. If it wasn’t for them, he wouldn’t have the great parents he has today. Bacon’s biological parents wished nothing but the best for him and I think he has it here at the Hotel Thompson with his human mom/dad.
All of us are all very lucky to have mom/dad here at the Hotel Thompson. There’s so much love!
Today, National Parents Day, brings the real meaning of Mother’s Day and Father’s Day. Spend some time with your parents doing something fun and most important showing them how much they are loved and appreciated.

.June 8th. is Best Friend Day . This is a great day to express to your friends how much you really appreciate them and cherish their friendship. Of course, we need to do this year round but today is a special day to share your appreciation and honor your friends.
Best friends are great people. You can spend countless hours with them doing all kinds of things and sometimes just doing nothing at all. Whether you are talking up a storm on the telephone lines or just sitting in a room together watching a movie without talking, friends are great companions. You share everything with your best friend – from your secrets, your goals in life, your desire to endless achievements and your disappointments in life.
So today – go celebrate Best Friend Day. Call up your bestie and spend some time, give them a small gift or hug, call an old friend you haven’t heard from in a while and if you don’t have a best friend – go find one today!
This squirrel is very fortunate to have so many friends here on this blog as well as at the Hotel Thompson. Huge thanks to all of my friends here – Ya’ll are the best of friends!
Today, January 6th, is a special day. For one thing, it’s Cuddle Up Day. Doesn’t that just sound wonderful? It’s cold outside, make a fire and cuddle up for some snuggles. And, you don’t have to cuddle with someone to appreciate this day. Cuddle up in your favorite chair in front of that fireplace, pop in a movie, relax and enjoy your time. Bring out one of your favorite stuffed animals – I’ve seen Bacon’s mom do that. And hey, speaking of Bacon – cuddle up to your favorite pet. I know Bacon will get his share of cuddles today.. as well as Houdini… as well as Hemi… as well as Mouse Girl 🙂
AND…
Today is also another special day. Today is also the big guy’s birthday here at the Hotel Thompson. It’s dad’s birthday. Now, he won’t tell us how old he is but I think he was around during the dinosaur era. Why? Because I hear Bacon’s mom calling him T-Rex at times. Shakes squirrel head – so that has to be true, right?
So at this time, all of us here at the Hotel Thompson would like to wish the big guy a very wonderful HAPPY BIRTHDAY. You do so much for us from giving us nuts to cleaning our litter boxes out to even cooking for us from time to time. You are definitely the icing on our cake… and speaking of cake – enjoy – we love you big guy!
Last night, I made a deal with Hemi and Houdini. We were going to hang out near the Mickey Mouse lamp pole all night in hopes of seeing the mysterious Santa Claus. Mom/dad told us all that he wouldn’t come as long as our eyes were open. So in preparation, we taped them open just in case Mr. Sandman came first. We waited and waited to no avail. Hemi and Houdini got frustrated and went to mom/dad’s room to sleep on the Select Comfort. I myself was determined. I mean hey, they don’t call me pig headed for nothing, right? Snorts.
So I waited and waited – no snow – no reindeers – no fatman in red. I was having a hard time trying to stay awake. I jumped on the sofa and that was a big mistake. Before I knew it, my eyes were droopy, my breathing had slowed and I had drifted off to peace on earth.
I’m not sure how much time had passed but something awakened me and it wasn’t my gas. I kept one eye closed and barely opened the other. To my surprise I saw a big fat guy all in red. He was quietly putting pretty wrapped presents around the pole that he had first mistaken as a stripper pole – oh dear Lord. But hold everything and wait a minute what is that caught my attention? A woman was beside him wearing next to nothing. No wonder for his confusion on the pole. The next thing that happened scarred me for life when Santa grabbed said woman and gave her a kiss to last. OMP (oh my pig). What was that? She turned and grinned and I saw it wasn’t a woman – it was my mom! What will daddy think – what will daddy say. I saw mommy kissing Santa Claus. THUD – piggy down.
I shut my eyes so very fast. This is not something that a pig wants to last. When I reopened my eyes much to my amazement, everyone was gone but the presents were still there – all decorated – all wrapped – tucked in neatly around the Mickey Mouse pole lamp. But something caught my eye in the corner near one box. It was green and waving, “Come take a look”. I quietly exited off my sofa and softly hooved my way across the floor. Oh dear Lord – it was a $20.00 bill – I guess Santa did get a dance from the lap pole after all.
I squealed and ran down to my room in a hurry and tucked myself in to my toddler bed. When then what did I hear? Soft taps on the roof, a jingle of bells and in a loud bellow I heard a man say, “Merry Christmas to all and to all a good night!”
Let me tell you a secret. Mom had her iPhone unlocked and I was just looking at the pictures – yep that’s what I was doing – snorts looking a pictures.
I came across a person in her contacts that I couldn’t believe! Mommy has the direct number to Santa Claus – thud piggy down. So when the humans tell you that they know people that are important – it’s true.
I told Hemi and Houdini about this contact in mom’s iPhone. They couldn’t believe it and thought it was a joke. We called the number and put it on speaker phone. OMP (oh my pig!). All of our mouths fell open. It really was Santa Claus. We were all shocked. Mommy really does know Santa. We *have* to be good now. What if she sends him pictures or calls him herself?
Just in case, I’m off to clean up my pig pen of a bedroom. Hey, I gotta be on that good list this year. I have a big stocking to fill! And you still don’t believe? Look what else I found on mom’s Facebook page – OMP! Gotta run now. My room needs cleaning 🙂
Oh boy. That human daddy of mine just digs himself deeper and deeper this time of year. Mommy asked him to take out some decorations for Christmas. Maybe it’s just me but I don’t think the leg lamp is exactly what mommy had in mind. He tried to fight for it saying that it was a classic and came from the movie, “A Christmas Story“. He continued by saying that if it was good enough for Ralphie’s dad then it should be good enough for him. Way to go daddy. You need a shovel to dig yourself deeper into the hole?
I just bet you that all mom heard was blah, blah, blah and blah. She was patient and she was kind. She let him make arguments over the said leg lamp.
I don’t know about you but that’s the way moms seem to be. They get quiet and listen while you dig the hole bigger and bigger. Just, you know, letting you stumble over yourself. I watched and tried not to snort because I knew it was coming. She said, “Listen Ralphie, if I dared you to stick your tongue to the frozen pole, would you do that too because everyone else was doing it?” She’s good. The leg lamp was put back in the attic.
But you see, daddy doesn’t learn that easily. Mom told him to put up the tree while she went out shopping. For some reason, I just don’t think that this is what mommy was talking about.
Needless to say, mom was out for about an hour. I know she thought she was going to come home to a tree… just a tad bit bigger than this I’m guessing.
Let’s just say that daddy was batting two for two this weekend. So, our tree and decorations really didn’t get worked on like I thought they were going to. And the discussion about actually putting up a tree took place. Tree or no tree. Because someone – looking innocently – knocked over the tree last year. That keeps coming up for some reason. I don’t get it. The tree got tired and thirsty so it took a nap. That’s it. Really.
Happy Thanksgiving to the best friends we could ever have!
I hope your day is full of love, family and hugs. And let’s not forget food. All kinds of food! I found another funny for today. I hope it makes you chuckle just a bit.
I also wanted to take this minute to express what I’m thankful for. I’m thankful for my friends here in blogville. I’m thankful for my family. I’m thankful for a roof over my head and a soft bed to sleep in at night. I’m thankful for the food provided for me every day. I’m thankful for the love all the way.
I’m thankful for the shoulders I have to lean on and the laps I have to snuggle on. I’m thankful to my birth mother who gave me to my adopted mother.
❤ ❤ ❤ ❤ ❤
And when I count my blessings, I count all of you twice!
Hey Bacon’s friends. This is Bacon’s mom and dad here. We are hi-jacking the little guy’s blog this afternoon for an important announcement. Today is also our pig-son’s birthday. Our baby Bacon turns the big 6 today! Can you believe he was born on our anniversary? Just one more little sign that his adoption was meant to be with us.
HAPPY BIRTHDAY BACON!
Bacon has brought so much joy here at the Hotel Thompson. When I tell you there is *never* a dull moment, that is certainly the truth. Bacon is like the little child we never had. He’s very smart – as you all know from him writing his blog here – cough cough. It doesn’t matter what kind of day you’ve had, how much stress you encounter in the world – he is always here waiting for you with a snort and oink. I’m not sure what me or Jim would do without Bacon and our other ‘children’: Houdini, Hemi and Mouse Girl in our lives. They bless us beyond our imagination.
So today, we raise our glass with you our friends to send out a huge HAPPY BIRTHDAY to the best pig-son we could ever have. And here’s to years and years of more happiness and adventures! Help us out our friends in wishing Bacon the best of all birthdays!
Bacon – may all your dreams come true. May you have more delights today than ever before. We love you our boy!
And thanks to my bro across the pond – Phenny – for these awesome presents. That card was almost as big as me! I loved it. Thanks bro ❤
