National Animal Cracker Day!

Journalist Rocky the Squirrel here –

Keeping his paws on the nuts of the world.

April 18th. is National Animal Cracker Day.  Isn’t this fantastic!!  Elephants, lions, tigers, bears and monkeys oh my.  These are small little sweet cookies shaped like zoo animals.  They were first brought to the United States during the 1800’s.  The demand for these wonderful little cookies skyrocketed and demand was over the roof!

Stauffer’s Biscuit Company was the first company to produce animal crackers in 1871 in York, Pennsylvania.  Other local bakeries came together under the National Biscuit Company or “Nabisco Brands”.  In 1902, the famous Barnum’s Animals circus theme box came out.  Bacon’s mom says that she remembers her parents bringing her these little boxes as a treat.

Did you know that since their start in 1903, there have been 37 different animals included in the Barnum’s Animal Crackers?  Today, more than 40 million packages of animal crackers are sold each year around the world.

I think Bacon does his share in the intake!  They are one of his biggest treats that his mom has to get him in the economy size!  I can’t tell you how many of these huge buckets that he has gone through in his day.  In fact, this one is what the Easter bunny brought him and it’s almost gone.  Time to reload.

So on this National Animal Cracker Day – enjoy a box OR TWO of these sweet delectable bits.  Just remember though, if you are going to eat in front of the pig, you have to share!

Happy Easter!

HAPPY EASTER my dear friends

((HOGS AND KISSES)) it’s a wonderful and joyous day!

I love Easter.  I love everything about it.  I love the fun.  I love the excitement.  I love the actual meaning of Easter.  I love it all!

Mom makes is so special for all of us.  Mom gave the purr things their little basket.  She was going to take a picture of it but too late – they got to it.  There was little pieces of grass everywhere from their straw basket.  They got cat treats, a bag of Iams – their favorite and a couple of play mice.  They were happy – more so for the basket and grass at first – snorts.  Silly purr things.

Dad loves his Angry Birds games so this year mom tried to decorate the eggs in their colors.  Didn’t turn out as good as last year but dad absolutely loved them.  Me, of course I favored the piggy one.  What more I favored was what was inside of the egg. Snorts – I do love my food.

And me?  You asked what did the Easter Bunny bring me?  ALL kinds of goodies.

20130312-101826.jpg

I got a yearly pot full of my special treats! I noticed last week that my big bucket was MIA (missing in action) here at the Hotel Thompson.  That Easter Bunny is sneaky.  He must have come in last week and took my bucket to fill up with all of these goodies.

Look in that bucket –

  • Animal crackers – yes the convenient size – snort.
  • Yellow squash and eggplant.   I love it chopped up and raw.
  • Carrots – look at the size of those master pieces!
  • Oranges and apples.
  • And my training raisins were in the bottom of the bucket.  I only get raisins when mom is teaching me new tricks.  I guess she’s up to training again.

YUMMY – this pig struck the gold mine!   I think personally the Easter Bunny likes me the best, don’t you?  But I won’t tell anyone if you don’t.

And we can’t forget about  rock clan. The Easter Bunny brought the rock clan what else but Rock Candy!

Everyone is having a blast on this special day.  I hope you and yours also have a spectacular Easter my friends!

Bacon and friends at the Hotel Thompson 🙂

Decorating for the Holidays

Happy day my friends.  We finally got everything together here at the Hotel Thompson and finished decorating for the holidays.  We don’t put up a tree here for obvious reasons – the two H’s – Hemi and Houdini.  That tree wouldn’t stand five minutes being decorated in our living room.  Trust me on that.  Between the purr thing climbing it and exploring, the puppy watering it and chewing on the bottom branches and well me – looks innocently – head bunting it, it would get tired and fall down to sleep.  I’m just saying and being realistic here.  It’s a good thing mom and dad agree.

So no tree here.  But don’t frown.  We have a Mickey Mouse lamp pole.  That fits in perfect here at the Hotel Thompson.  You know my mom LOVES that mouse with the gloves and we still get the pretty lights from the pole.  And the pole is sturdy.  I mean really sturdy like 20-25 pounds.  Hey, it’s gotta be sturdy to hold that huge Mickey Mouse head – snorts.

We also put out my stocking for Christmas.  What?  You think it’s too small?  I told mommy I needed a bigger one.  One can never be too big for all of the goodies that dear Santa might leave in my stocking.  You know – like fruits, vegetables, Gold Fish and Animal Crackers – snorts.

I just have to find the perfect place to hang my stocking.  For some reason, daddy says we can’t put it on the fireplace mantle this year.  Something about it pulling down on the mantle last year.  One heavy stocking and your scarred for life huh?  Bummer daddy.

So I have to find a place for my little stocking.  I’m thinking on the back of the front room door.  That would surely be a nice place to put it.  And also Santa won’t miss it, right?  What do you think.  Any suggestions?

So who wants to kiss the Bacon?  Snorts

One Lovely Blog Award

Squeals with piggy excitement!!  OMP – I got nominated for the One Lovely Blog Award by my sweet friends over at Ladybuggz.  What a fantastic way to end the month.  Thank you my sweet friends for thinking of this little oinker and his group of misfit friends

Be sure to check out Ladybuggz when you get a chance and tell them that Bacon sent you.

❤   ❤   ❤   ❤

The rules are as follows:

  1. Post to accept the nomination
  2. Thank the person who nominated you and link to their blog.
  3. List 7 things about yourself.
  4. Link to the blogs you nominate.
  5. Notify the recipients of their award.
  6. Post the rules!

Here are seven things about me:

  1. I’m a miniature pot belly oinker.  But I’m not just any oinker.  I’m talented, write a blog, have my own bedroom with my own television and have my mom wrapped around my  hooves right where I need her.
  2. For years, I wouldn’t go outside to potty because I didn’t like the feel of grass on my hooves.  Nowadays, I’ve gotten used to it although I still hate going outside in the heat.
  3. My favorite snack is Animal Crackers.  I will do anything you want for a few cookies.  Darn this pot belly of mine!
  4. I have a pet rock named Bashful who travels the world and brings home friends each time he returns.  They also live in my bedroom and can be quite loud at times.  Don’t let them fool you.  They are party animals and love to play hide and go seek.
  5. I love to watch television.  I especially like the old school cartoons.  You know the ones like the original Scooby Doo, The Flintstones, The Jetsons – you know the good toons before they went crazy.  Mom can turn my television on and I will watch for horrors.
  6. There is only food at this time that I absolutely can not stand.  What is it?  It is kumquats.  Yucky.  Pooey.  Gross.  Mom gave me one and one of my ears went south and the other went north at the same time.  I spit it out and will not eat them.  In fact, I told mom to try one.  Do you know her ears did the same thing?  Snorts with piggy laughter.
  7. Have you ever heard of cow tipping?  Well mom says that she likes to pig tip me.  Rolls my piggy eyes.  There’s one spot on my side that mom can rub and boom – there I go.  I tip over, kick my hind legs and let mom rub my belly.  What can I say?  I’m easy like that.

Seven Nominations:

Of course, I would like to nominate anyone that doesn’t have this award yet.  If you don’t have it, please feel free to accept this award from my piggy heart.  Other than that, here are my choices:

My awesome friends Kali and Shoko from Canadian Cats

My brother Easy

My buddies Hailey and Zaphod at the Hailey/Zaphod Chronicles

The Gang at Jan’s Funny Farm

My cousin Sammy at OneSpoiledCat

My nefkitty Purrince Siddhartha Henry

The dear friends Sam and Elsa at Tailsaroundtheranch

Insert Porn Music

Okay I’m not sure what that means, “Insert porn music”.  That’s something that daddy said.  I don’t understand dad’s crazy thinking.  All I know is that mom went to give me some of my favorite treats – my animal crackers.  Then she started laughing.  Dad asked why she was laughing like a crazy person and she told him what she found.  Then dad went Chick-a-bow-wow.

Again, I think daddy has overstepped the fine line of being crazy.  I mean, do you see anything interesting in my animal crackers?  They look delicious to me – snorts with piggy laughter.

Letter From Summer Camp

Dear Family,

Bacon here from Summer Camp.  This will be my final letter from camp.  WOW – it’s been a long week in a lot of different ways and on the other hoof a very short week.  I really didn’t want to come but I have to admit that it’s been kind of fun.  I’ve met a lot of great friends – Scott and Piper.  You are probably wondering who the heck is Piper.  Piggy blushes… she was the strawberry that I had dinner with the other night.  She’s sweet and cute and all girly and from the south.  She gave me her phone number and address so we can stay in touch ❤ .  Oh, and so did Scott.

Last night was talent night here at camp.  All of us had to come up with some kind of talent for the show.  Heck, I had to think hard.  I mean what talent do I have besides pounding a keyboard.. which I’m pretty good with cause the last time I checked I was up at 25hpm (hooves per minute).  So I thought about biting into an apple and laying on the floor but I’m not sure how many of the gang would get that one.  Then it hit me.  I would dance and sing a song of my people so I did.

“I’m a little teapot short and stout.  Here is my handle and here is my … handle.  Damn I’m a sugar bowl.”

It got a great snort and got me off of the stage quickly.

So today mom/dad are coming to pick me up.  I can’t wait.  I’m so ready to jump in the back of the Smart car and get home to my kingdom… my castle… my own bed… my air conditioning.  aaww – I miss that life.  I hope you’ve been entertained this week and that my little brother Houdini has done a good job on my blog.  I instructed him before I left to take care of everyone.

See you soon my friends!

Letter From Summer Camp

Dear Family,

Bacon here from Summer Camp.  I gotta admit mom that I thought this Summer Camp thing was a joke.  I really, REALLY didn’t want to come.  But I have to admit that it’s been kind of cool this week.  We went and camped out last night ‘under the stars’.  I gotta admit that laying around the bonfire and watching the sky through the tips of the trees was kind of cool.  It’s amazing how many shooting stars you can see.  That in itself was almost worth the trip.

I also put my Ninja skills into action last night and found the culprit who ate all of my Animal Crackers.  It was a boy named Scout.  Yep, nods piggy head, his name is Scout.  He has stolen a lot of our food here this week at camp.  After everyone went to sleep last night in their tents, someone – looks around innocently – went to his tent and made grunting noises, stomped around a lot and cast huge shadows on the side of his tent.  For a boy that is challenged horizontally, he could run pretty fast.  What’s even better was seeing him wearing his pajama onesie.  Now that was priceless.  He kept saying that he heard Pigman and Goatman in the woods.  Don’t mess with the Ninja pig.

And mom you would be proud of me.  I had dinner with a strawberry (girl) last night.  She’s cool.

Letter From Summer Camp

Dear Family,

Bacon here from Summer Camp.  There are a bunch of vultures here at camp.  No I’m not talking about Alfred Hitchcock and birds of nature.  I’m talking about thieves.  Someone in the cabin ate all of my Animal Crackers yesterday.  They are not admitting to who did it.  Don’t mess with the pig.  This means war. Good thing I packed my Ninja outfit when you weren’t looking.

Today we had to go running.  Snorts – as if this pig runs.  Unless there is food in the distance that is calling me, why would this oinker run?  So there I was softly walking to our destination.  My counselor Wolf creeped up behind me and howled.  What an as*$*!)  I took off running like it was really the Big Bad Wolf after me.  After a while of running, I heard clapping.  It took me a few minutes to realize it was just my thighs cheering me on.  That Wolf is a true as$*!&

Tonight, we get to sleep outside “under the stars in the fresh air”.  Really?  Do these people not watch television?  I’d rather be behind a locked door.  But then again, my Ninja outfit could come in handy tonight to find the culprit that ate my beloved Animal Crackers.  Evil snorts.
