Do a Grouch a Favor Day –

Journalist Rocky the Squirrel here –

keeping his paws on the nuts of the world –

Today is Do a Grouch a Favor Day.  Do it today and make the world a better place!

Everyone has been a grouch at some point in their lives.  Some people are occasionally grouchy while others maintain that grouchy attitude all of the time.  You know who they are.  Sometimes people get grouchy because they are tired, had a bad day and the weather outside is bad.  It doesn’t take much sometimes to put people in a grouchy mood.

Today your goal is to look around for someone that is in a grouchy mood.  Do them a favor that will cheer them up.  Hug them.  Lick them.  Be nice to them.  Bring them the paper.  You know – do something nice for them to see if you can see a smile on their face.  You can do it.  I know you can!

National Compliment Day

Journalist Rocky the Squirrel –

Keeping his hands on the nuts of the world.

Here for another important message for the day. Today, January 24th, is commemorated as National Compliment Day every year. It is a very special day and celebrated in most parts of the world apart from the USA. This day represents a positive theme – a positive tone in a positive atmosphere – everywhere you are whether it be at home, the grocery market, work or that place the humans feel to punish themselves by what they call “working out”.

Compliments – compliments – compliments – that is what we most do today. Have you ever noticed how someone just brightens up at a compliment, even a complete stranger? Do you notice how much harder you work when you get a compliment? So today, we shall compliment our little hearts out.

So here are some suggestions that can help you today on your National Compliment Day.

  • Give your co-worker an honest to goodness compliment on something at work. It doesn’t matter how small or big, express your thoughts in a generous compliment. Hey go for the gold here and even try to compliment that boss. Let them wonder what you’re up to..ha!
  • Compliment that person who is losing weight.
  • Compliment that human that is consistently working out in their hamster ball.
  • Compliment that human that really has touched you in some point of your life in a good way.
  • Compliment your spouse. Sometimes you humans don’t express your feelings enough to each other. Maybe if you compliment them, they’ll give you more nuts for the winter.
  • By all means, compliment your pets. They’re always there for you no matter what, even when you come home upset. They just want to love on you.
  • Compliment the guy that cuts you off in traffic this morning. Maybe he won’t hear you but you can smile and wave. Maybe instead of uttering fowl language under your breath, think to yourself, “Isn’t he a nice guy for getting in front of me blocking me from any danger.”
  • Compliment your mother and father – if it wasn’t for them, you wouldn’t be here. Heck, have your spouse compliment them too. If it wasn’t for them, your spouse wouldn’t have you.
  • Compliment your pups… I mean children. I’m sure they do something else besides being destructive.
  • Compliment your teacher. Compliment your bus driver or your chauffer.
  • While you’re at it – compliment nature and all of its little creatures, like me 🙂 Hey, you can even throw us some extra feed outside, we won’t say no.

You get the drift. You give out compliments and you give a positive sense of well being. You make someone feel great with just a few words. We all know that words can be so destructive. Let’s turn it around today.

I, Journalist Rocky the Squirrel, challenge you. I challenge you to give out a minimum of FIVE compliments today. I bet you can do more but FIVE is a good start. Are you going to take the challenge?

This is Journalist Rocky the Squirrel signing off. Have a fantastic day you beautiful humans!

National Sandwich Day

Journalist Rocky the Squirrel here –

Keeping my paws on the nuts of the world!

.

Friends – this is an awesome day – National Sandwich Day!  Sandwiches are so varied in how you can make them – what bread, what meats, hot or cold, grilled, pressed, open or closed, condiments, toppings – sigh – let me slow down.  The options are out there my friends.  Do you know how the day got started?

English history says that John Montagu was the 4th Earl of Sandwich.  He was a heavy gambler and would spend hours at the tables in London’s gambling halls.  In 1762, he created the sandwich by putting meat between two pieces of bread.  This allowed him to stay at the tables longer to gamble.  Thus, the sandwich was made.

And do you know what Elvis Presley liked on his sandwiches?  Peanut butter, banana and bacon (sorry Bacon) and then it was grilled.  It does sound interesting in a round about way.

And do you have a Subway restaurant in your area?  Today if you buy a sub and a 30 ounce drink, you get a free sub to share.  Now that sounds like an awesome way to spend today.

International Talk Like a Pirate Day

Journalist Rocky the Squirrel here –

Keeping my paws on the nuts of the world!

.

.

Ahoy, mateys!  Today, September 19th is International Talk Like A Pirate Day!!  It’s a day for fun – you know a day to let our inner pirate come out just for fun.  Practice your pirate talk and talk like a pirate all day long to everyone.  See how much fun you can have telling people to ‘walk the plank’… chitter chatter – so funny!  Just remember, it’s not required that you dress like a pirate as long as you talk like a pirate.

20130601-002004.jpgFor your convenience, I’m adding a few words that might come in handy this day.  Be sure to fit them into your conversations somewhere and see the reaction on people’s faces.

Ahoy! – “Hello!”

Avast! “Whoa! Get a load of that!”

Aye! – “Why yes, I agree most heartily with everything you just said or did.”

Aye aye! – “I’ll get right on that sir, as soon as my break is over.”

Arrr! – “Yes,” “I agree”; “I’m happy”; “That was a clever remark you or I just made.” Note:  not to be confused with Arrgghh

Beauty – The best possible pirate address for a woman. Always preceded by “me,” as in,“C’mere, me beauty.”.

Bilge rat – The bilge is the lowest level of the ship. It’s loaded with ballast and slimy, reeking water. A bilge rat, then, is a rat that lives in the worst place on the ship. A lot of guy humor involves insulting your buddies to prove your friendship. It’s important that everyone understand you are smarter, more powerful and much luckier with the wenches than they are. Since bilge rat is a pretty dirty thing to call someone, by all means use it on your friends.

Bung hole – The stopper in the barrel is called the bung, and the hole is called the bung hole. That’s all. It sounds a lot worse, doesn’t it?

Grog – An alcoholic drink, usually rum diluted with water. Call your beer grog if you want.

Hornpipe – Both a single-reeded musical instrument sailors often had aboard ship, and a spirited dance that sailors do.

20130601-002022.jpg

And of course, Bacon’s dad is bouncing right along with today.  He’s already confronted Bacon’s mom with a couple of what shall we say ‘off-colored’ pirate talk this morning.  Shakes my head.  He has persuaded me in a bucket of nuts to add a few of his oh so wonderful pick up lines.  (Yes, I can be bought and influenced and I know you are going to try a few of these so there.)

And, I’m taking bets how much Bacon’s mom can take before she makes him walk the plank!

Avast, me proud beauty! Wanna know why my Roger is so Jolly?

Come on up and see me urchins.

I’ve sailed the seven seas, and you’re the sleekest schooner I’ve ever sighted.

That’s some treasure chest you’ve got there.
That’s the finest pirate booty I’ve ever laid eyes on.

Happy International Pirate Day me buckos!

National Dog Day

Journalist Rocky the Squirrel here –

Keeping my paws on the nuts of the world!

Today, August 26th, is a great day for all of the pooches in the world.  Today is National Dog Day.  Today we shall recognize and honor all dogs, to appreciate the importance of having them in our lives.  Whether you have them as a personal pet, a working dog or you work in a place homing dogs, take this day and let them know how much they are valued.  Even if you don’t have a dog of your own, perhaps today is the day to fix that and adopt a dog for your household.

Remember, dogs as well as other pets ask for nothing but love in return of you taking care of them.  They are always there when you are having a good or a bad day.  They lean their shoulder when you have a good cry and make you laugh with all of their antics.  They keep you company and protect their home.  Be sure today and every day – give them some extra hugs and cuddles and perhaps a favorite treat or two.
