Officially Summer

June 21 is the official day of Summer –

Yay for Summer being here – boo for the heat.  No one likes the heat.  Heat is bad.  Momma says its swimsuit season.  Heck it should be because too much clothes and you would burn up!  Thank goodness Hotel Thompson has air conditioning.

I guess some of my pig friends have the right way in life.  Pull up a chair, crawl in and take a siesta outside in nature.  It is one way to get a little sun on your skin.  Me, I’d rather stay inside surrounded by air… cool air that is.

But with the heat, you also get some amazing munchies… like strawberries.  My friend here has the right ideal.  Get a bowl of those delicious berries, settle up to it and have your own eating competition.  Doesn’t he look like he’s grinning there because he’s so happy? snorts

For some reason, I’m craving strawberries now. I wonder why?

Whatever you decide to do today to kick off Summer, enjoy it and have a safe day my friends.

 

 

National Pick Strawberries Day

May 20th is a wonderful glorious day.  It is National Pick Strawberries Day – what a great
day to enjoy.  I know that this is a day that the pig Bacon can wrap those jowls around.  He absolutely LOVES strawberries and that’s a huge understatement.

Today, start a new tradition.  Go find a strawberry field and pick your own strawberries.  Start a family tradition.  I think Bacon’s mom is actually going to go and pick the little fellow a few of his own today. I wonder if they will let Bacon come and pick his own?  Chitter Chatter – that would be a picture for the blog!  Enjoy my friends!

 

Travels in the South

Welcome my friends to another week of Travels in the South.  This week, we are talking about my dad again.  He gives me so much material – snorts and rolls with piggy laughter.  Dad loves finger foods and peanut butter and food and pretzels and food.  Well you get the ideal – daddy loves food.  And who could blame him, right?  I myself LOVE food of any kind in any way.

Well mom went shopping the other day and found these awesome treats for him – an entire container of peanut buttered pretzels for $1.00 – what a bargain!  Now you would think with the price low they might be stale or icky.  They were not.  Daddy ate them grinning the entire time making weird noises.  I think he liked them.

 

Happy Birthday Bacon!

 Hey Bacon’s friends.  This is Bacon’s mom and dad here.  We are hi-jacking the little guy’s blog this afternoon for an important announcement.  Today is also our pig-son’s birthday.  Our baby Bacon turns the big 6 today!  Can you believe he was born on our anniversary?  Just one more little sign that his adoption was meant to be with us.

HAPPY BIRTHDAY BACON!

Bacon has brought so much joy here at the Hotel Thompson.  When I tell you there is *never* a dull moment, that is certainly the truth.  Bacon is like the little child we never had.  He’s very smart – as you all know from him writing his blog here – cough cough.  It doesn’t matter what kind of day you’ve had, how much stress you encounter in the world – he is always here waiting for you with a snort and oink.  I’m not sure what me or Jim would do without Bacon and our other ‘children’: Houdini, Hemi and Mouse Girl in our lives. They bless us beyond our imagination.

So today, we raise our glass with you our friends to send out a huge HAPPY BIRTHDAY to the best pig-son we could ever have.  And here’s to years and years of more happiness and adventures!  Help us out our friends in wishing Bacon the best of all birthdays!

Bacon – may all your dreams come true.  May you have more delights today than ever before.  We love you our boy!

And thanks to my bro across the pond – Phenny – for these awesome presents.  That card was almost as big as me!  I loved it.  Thanks bro ❤

 

Travels in the South

Sometimes the best treat can be the easiest treat.  Really it can.  Let’s look at this week’s edition of Travels in the South.  Mom/dad found something that even this oinker can wrap his piggy jowls around and enjoy fully.  Two words for you – strawberry shortcake.  Understand now?  Look at that deliciousness.  So simple yet so delicious.  Don’t let the bare basics fool you.

This pure awesomeness is made out of simple sliced pound cake covered with sliced strawberries, strawberry syrup and topped with whip cream.  How could you not want to lick the plate… and you do, don’t you?  I won’t tell anyone.

And this dessert is just wonderful for the heat outside.  A simple dessert to eat for dessert or like mom did, for dinner – snorts with piggy laughter.

Travels in the South

Welcome my friends to another week of Travels in the South.  This week, mom/dad found something delicious and decadent.  Something they had to share because you know sharing is half of the calories, right?

Now, I won’t tell anyone you were drooling while you were looking at that picture.  Nope.  That will just be our little secret.  Are you wondering what it is?   This is a white creamy cheesecake on a graham cracker crust swirled with white chocolate curls topped with fresh strawberries and whip cream.  THUD!  That would be my little piggy mouth hitting the floor.  It sounds marvelous but mom/dad said it tasted even better.  It was sweet but no so that your teeth ached afterwards.  The cost was less than $5.00 and mom/dad said it was more than enough – even for two people.  Who can turn down a good cheesecake?  In fact, where is mine.  Oh mom/dad….

 

 

Travels in the South

Hello sweet friends.  How was your Valentine’s Day yesterday?  In honor of the sweetest day of the year, mom/dad shared a little love yesterday as well.  They went out to dinner and afterwards enjoyed this delicious concoction.  And hey, splitting a dessert means half of the calories, right?  But who’s counting calories on Valentine’s Day – snorts.

This lovely creation is called a Margarita Cheesecake which is seasonal special at a local steakhouse called Logan’s Roadhouse.  Now, it’s like other cheesecakes made with cream cheese but it has Logan’s signature margarita blend on the graham cracker crust.  And don’t forget about the sliced strawberries all over the place.  Mom said it was – what was the phrase she used – delightful to the fullest!

So, if you are near a Logan’s Roadhouse, make sure you check it out for this wonderful dessert.  You won’t be disappointed.

 

 

 

 

Travels in the South

Hello friends – welcome back to mom/dad’s Travels in the South.  Today is a good one…. snorts – I say that every week don’t I?  Rolls with piggy laughter.  Well as you know mom/dad have been changing their way of eating.  It’s definitely a work in progress for sure.  Well, a couple of weeks ago mom took dad out for his birthday.  Dad wanted to go to a local steakhouse for dinner.

Dad went for a steak of course ❤   He ordered a prime rib and mom said since it was his birthday he could have french fries.  Nice of her huh?  Snorts!  Mom went with the strawberry fields salad.  Doesn’t that look awesome?  It has everything in it from nuts to grapes to strawberries to oranges.  Yummy huh?
