Spotlight Thursday – Meet Stella

Spotlight Thursday

Welcome my friends to SPOTLIGHT THURSDAY.  This is the time that I will introduce you to one of my fellow anipals so you can get to know them better.  Some of them, you may already know.  We hope that you enjoy this series!

Name:  Stella Mc Cormick

Age:  15 years

Location:  Mustang Island, Texas

Web/Blog Page:  http://johnwhowell.com/

What were your first thoughts when you met your new parents?   When i saw my mom for the first time I was living with my four siblings in a woodpile out in the woods. My birth mom was feral and my adoptive mom captured her and all the kids. We were only four days old and my new mom took us in and fed us with a bottle. She had my birth mom fixed and released back to the wild. We stayed with our new mom and when we were old enough she placed everyone but my brother and I in new homes. My first thought was this was some mom. She has loved me since then. Sadly my brother went over the rainbow bridge a year ago and so I’m the only feline in the house.

What was the defining moment when you knew you were in your forever home?   When I saw the brothers and sisters all go and I was still left I knew I was a chosen one. My brother felt the same.

What has been your biggest “Oh no, now I’ve done it” moment so far in your home?  For some reason I decided to jump up on the table during dinner one time and wasn’t very careful. I caused a glass of red wine to take a tumble and it ended up in my mom’s lap. She was wearing white slacks at the time and I thought there was going to be trouble. All that happened is I was told to stay off the table. Of course, I completely ignore that order if I want to check things out. I now know all about wine glasses and I plan my landings to accommodate that risk.

Who do you have wrapped around your paws more – mom or dad – and why?  Well mom originally wanted to keep only brother and dad talked her into keeping both of us. Mom was very sad when brother had to leave and so I’ve made a real effort to help cheer her. I still think I have dad wrapped. He always makes room for me when I bug him for a stroke.

What’s the biggest misconception that humans think about you?   Humans think because I disappear when they come to the house that I’m shy. It’s not that at all. I am really outflanking them and preparing to leap out in case of emergency. I’ve never had to do it but I’m willing to save the family in case of danger.

Hope you enjoyed meeting my friend – check back next week for another Spotlight edition!

Dear Bacon

Dear Bacon – Yo dude, we want to tell you something.  Don’t think that Tony Hawk and humans are the only one’s that can move a board.  We want you to know that us anipals can too.  This is me and my bro using our boards on the bathroom sink – which is an awesome area to do some rims off the side.  It’s way too cool dude.  You only have to make sure that you don’t do the rim on the toilet side cause if it goes over, ka-plunk into the depths of the tidy bowl friend.   So dude, the next time you go out on your deck or what have you, take in some air.  You won’t regret it!  Signed Mike and Ike

Dear Mike and Ike – Oh my piggy heavens.  That’s what I’m talking about!  Find the freedom of fun where you can.  I like the way you two think for sure.  I say burn those boards my friends and keep flying high… just watch out for the tank.

Dear Bacon – Shaking my head.  You always have that one brother that just doesn’t know how to act or fit in.  I’m sure you can relate with those two in your home.  Here we are and our human wanted to take pictures.  I’ve said time and time again, “Bro, don’t look at the camera.”  And what does he do?  Looks at the camera and grins like an idiot.  Shaking my head.  How can we be from the same family?  Signed I’m with Stupid

Dear I’m with Stupid – I know only too well of this problem my friend.  It seems like our brothers never want to do what we tell them – ever!  Houdini is the same way here.  He *always* has to turn on his baby charm and smile.  It’s really disgusting.  He’s such a camera hog – snorts with piggy laughter.

Dear Bacon –  They say that admission is the first step.  Okay here it goes.  I admit it.  I can’t hold my kibble.  I overate.  Why?  Because it was there and my belly grumbled for some.  Yes, I know it’s going to be there every day but you never know when the kibble will run dry and there won’t be anymore.  You never know – honestly!  I knew when I finished that I made a grave error of my ways.  My tummy started rumbling and I got the talk back to… you know when air escapes and makes sound out of your bum.  Those are weird.  Then I ran to the bathroom and threw my head into the throne… to bad that wasn’t the end it wanted to come out of.  My bad.  Have you ever felt this way?  Signed Overeaters Anonymous

Dear Overeaters Anonymous – Oh my friend.  I’m a hog.  I always feel like I should clean my bowl and eat some more.  But mom, she makes sure I don’t overdo it like you did.  And those sounds coming out of your bum – I like to refer to them as food ghosts coming back to haunt us…. then I blame them on my daddy.  Hey, it works.  Hope you feel better soon.

Dear Bacon –  There is this show on television that I always have to watch every single week.  It’s called Bad Dog!  If you haven’t seen it, you have to check it out.  It’s all about dogs that don’t have it together, that don’t know what side of their bread is buttered.  Do you know what I mean?  Well every week, I gather my favorites together – cheese – and watch my show.  I try to get my humans to watch with me.  So they will know what a wonderful pet I actually am.  You know to let them know how lucky they are to have me.  You get it.  So do you have to remind your humans that they are lucky to have you?  Signed Cheese Head

Dear Cheese Head – Yes.  Us anipals always need to remind our humans how lucky they are to have us and how they can’t live without us.  It’s the law of anipals… well it should be if it isn’t.  Without us, who would keep the humans in line.  Right?  I say carry on my friend and enjoy those cheese doodles… one of my favorites.

❤ Remember friends – Dear Bacon can’t happen without YOU.  Please continue to email me your pictures and letters.  ❤

Spotlight Thursday – Meet Madeline and Prissy

Spotlight Thursday

Welcome my friends to SPOTLIGHT THURSDAY.  This is the time that I will introduce you to one of my fellow anipals so you can get to know them better.  Some of them, you may already know.  Today we bring you interviews on two piggies that mean the world to us.  Hope you enjoy!

Name:  Madeline

Age:  3

Location:   The Bonnell Farm in Hampton, Georgia

Web/Blog Page:  The Bonnell Farm

What were your first thoughts when you met your new parents?  I squealed for joy – on second thought I actually squealed all the time. This was a ploy of mine to make my new owner know I was in charge, too bad it did not work

What was the defining moment when you knew you were in your forever home?  I knew I was in my forever home when the food and treats came to me at scheduled times. But really, 1 cup of Mazuri mini pig food twice a day? I’m debating to know if my owner understands I’m a pig.

What has been your biggest “Oh no, now I’ve done it” moment so far in your home?   It was when I was moved out or grew out of my inside pen and was moved to the outside barn and pasture. Now some of you will think that’s pretty good. What you are not seeing is there are four goats already there! Chewy, Dewey, Louie and Huey, my new stepbrothers. Pretty brutal to start out as they butted and rolled to me quite often. All is well now since they found out I can bite!

Who do you have wrapped around your paws more – mom or dad – and why?  I have mom all wrapped up. She still likes to cuddle and talk to me. Dad keeps bringing up breakfast with bacon, I’m not sure about him!

What’s the biggest misconception that humans think about you?  My family really thinks it’s neat to dress me up for the holidays. Really, a wig for Halloween and antlers for Christmas! I play their game, not because I’m ignoring the situation but because my mom puts this gaudy stuff on me and then gives me a treat. Hey, I’m a pig and I love to eat!

Name:  Prissy

Age:  2

Location:   The Bonnell Farm in Hampton, Georgia

Web/Blog Page:  The Bonnell Farm

What were your first thoughts when you met your new parents?  Well….. I have two momma’s!  Momma #2 (Debbie) delivered me and fell in love with me because I would always walk out to her when she would come down to check on all of us!  Momma #1 (Sylvia) loved me right away. Her human man was shocked because I was a Christmas surprise to everyone but her.  But he likes me now and helps feed me sometimes.  He tells people about me but always starts off with, “it wasn’t my idea to get a pig,” then says how petite (he says small, but the moms say I’m itty bitty or tiny – it’s a girl thing) I am.

What was the defining moment when you knew you were in your forever home?  It was my first winter when I lived on the sun porch and momma #2 worried and fretted I was gonna freeze to death even tho I had a heat lamp, a heating pad and enough blankets to outfit a girls dorm.

What has been your biggest “Oh no, Now I’ve done it” moment so far in your home?  Well, I’m a barn and pasture pig. My birth momma (Madeline) is in the pasture next to mine with my four goat uncles, Chewy, Dewey, Louie and Huey.  She’s pretty crabby most of the time and when I got a little older I got sassy with her and she tried to bite me through the fence. Boy! The uncles are afraid of her and run when she gets in a mood. It’s usually when we get treats.

Who do you have wrapped around your paws more – mom or dad – and why?  Momma #2 is a bigger push-over because she always worries if my barn bed has enough straw. I’m the smallest of all of us and I have enough straw to build a piggy straw house!

What’s the biggest misconception that humans think about you?  People think pigs are stinky! That’s so not true! In the summer I like to stand under the hose sprinkler and get into my pool. They also think we cannot be trained. Well, even though I’m an outside pig I can sit for a treat. Momma #2 taught me that. She has a lot of patience. Momma #1 told me she read somewhere that pigs are the third smartest animal.  She reads a lot.  I cannot read. But I bet I could be taught how!!

I hope you enjoyed meeting my friends Madeline and Prissy – check back next week for another Spotlight edition!

Bacon’s Show and Tell

Thank you so very much my friends for making Bacon’s Show and Tell a great place to be every month.  This month for Bacon’s Show and Tell we are going to highlight Halloween.  What did you do for Halloween as a child?  Did you trick or treat door to door, go to a Halloween festival or did you stay at home?  This month let’s share what we did and show pictures – costumes, movies, whatever your favorite Halloween captured.

BOO!  Mom never celebrated Halloween per say when she was growing up.  She says that she went out one time during her childhood – it was cold and wet and she hated.  And what did she dress up as that one time?  You won’t believe it – a CLOWN!  Can you believe that?

After that ill fated time trick or treating door to door, her parents got smart.  Why go door to door and worry about your child when you can keep them home to have fun.  So from then on, mom and siblings told their parents what kind of candy they wanted and their parents bought it for them so they could have it on Halloween.  As their dad passed out candy to the regular trick or treaters, mom and her siblings had pizza, ate candy and watched scary movies on television.  Those are some of her best memories – watching the likes of Vincent Price, Lon Chaney, Boris Karloff and Bela Lugosi just to name a few.  I even found this picture of mom during her teenage years.

Dear Bacon

20131208-213049.jpgDear Bacon, Do you recognize this look my friend?  You know the doorbell rings but you are running around in your birthday suit.  You answer it from the corner wondering, “Who would come over without calling first” kind of look in your face.  You are secretly wishing it’s a girls scout selling cookies but oh no – it’s only someone selling something.  You give them this eat crap and die look before shutting the door.  No offense solicitors but unless you have thin mints, go to the neighbors house.  Signed Don’t Bother

Dear Don’t Bother,  YES I recognize that look.  Once all of the humans have settled into the Hotel Thompson, it’s a no bother zone unless you phone first – especially after dark. Shivers – I’ve seen too many shows on the Investigative Discovery channel.  No way am I opening the door.  And you are right… unless they have thin mints.  They could be someone from a horror show but if they are selling thin mints, I’m grabbing the boxes

20131208-213126.jpgDear Bacon,  You know sometimes I really hate my siblings.  They tell me that I chase butterflies too often grinning like the Cheshire cat and singing Disney songs. What’s it to them?  Who’s a happy gator – this guy!  Can’t we all just be happy and get along?  Signed Chomp

Dear Chomp,  I’m with you my bud.  I’m singing Hakuna Matata right now in my head.  It’s such a happy song all about no worries for the rest of your lives.  If you don’t know it, I highly recommend you looking it up and playing it.  It’s great and perky – just a song for chasing butterflies.  Be yourself and don’t let your siblings bully you into something you’re not!

20131208-213221.jpg

Dear Bacon, I’ve called this meeting here today to talk to you about your little brother Houdini.  You know us dogs have skills.  We can be your allies or we can be your enemies.  You don’t want us to be your enemies.  I’m just saying.  This face may look all cute and everything but my inner dog is 500 pounds just like Houdini’s.  You might want to rethink your relationship with the little guy.  We can come in handy for a lot of things.  Signed Fluffy

Dear Fluffy,  Oh my friend, there is no doubt about the skills of you pooches.  Houdini is my little buddy.  Sometimes I even let him sleep with me in my bed at night.  He’s a great guy and helps me out with the purr things here all of the time.  Especially that Hemi who uses my butt like a slapping post.  No worries – I know ya’ll rule!

20131208-213256.jpg

Dear Bacon, Score for the little dog!  I’ve been watching the humans and where they get my food.  Oh barks!  One day when they weren’t looking, I was able to get into the bag of heaven and SCORE!  Oh dude – I was in puppy heaven for a while until the master caught me.  But by that time, I had eaten half of the bag.  I was so fat I couldn’t walk.  I was rolling around with a silly happy grin on my face.  You ever done this before?  Signed Rolly Polly

Dear Rolly Polly,  Snorts!  I ❤ this my friend.  I’ve never gotten into the bag before.  But once when I was Nana’s, I ate so much that I couldn’t even squeak I was so pudgy.  I was uncomfortable for a while but like you – it was so worth it!

20131208-213355.jpg

Dear Bacon,  I hate it when the humans make me dress up.  We had to go to a wedding this past weekend and they insisted on me wearing a tux.  Really?  I’m a dog.  Rolls doggy eyes.  Tell me they don’t make you dress in this ridiculous outfit.  Signed Mister Doggy in the Wedding

Dear Mister Doggy in the Wedding – I have to admit pal that you make that tux look good.  Really you do.  Sometimes we have to do things that we really don’t want to do but need to do.  That was probably one of those situations.  I don’t particular have to dress up… yet.  But can you believe Houdini here has a tux. 🙂  It happens to the best of us.  Wear it with pride!

Remember my friends – we can’t have Dear Bacon without your letters and pictures.  Please keep sending them to me – snorts and thanks!

Psychic Reading from Psychic Source

Mommy was contacted recently from Psychic Source for a free psychic pet reading.  I’ve seen other anipals do it on their blogs and we were intrigued.  Normally, I would have jumped at a chance for something exciting and new.  Then I started thinking about it and got a little worried.  One eye up more than the other… what if this psychic told mommy about my piggy secrets.  I mean there are some things that I can’t have getting out… you know?

So I did what any great piggy sibling would do.  I threw the purr things under the bus volunteered the purr things here at the Hotel Thompson.   I mean we could ALL benefit from knowing what those two are thinking about here – snorts.  They asked me to send them a picture of the two.  I searched high and low to find the just ‘perfect’ picture of them to show their hard-headedness personality.  I finally decided on these two pictures.  May I present to you her highness Mouse Girl on the left and his majesty Hemi to the right.

Pictures were emailed and about a week and a half to two weeks later, we got a date/time set up for Thursday, May 8, 2014 at 7:30PM.  We asked for around this time because me and daddy wanted to hear too.

The reading was set up with Nancy.  Nancy specialties are love, she is a pet psychic and she is a clairvoyant.  Mom was a little excited about calling to find out what Nancy would pick up on here at the Hotel Thompson.  Here are the results of the phone call that lasted a little over 30 minutes 🙂

Nancy immediately picked up on Hemi and wanted to start with him.  She asked about his sex, how old he was currently and how old he was when we adopted him.  Mommy advised her that he is a male, currently 10 years young and that he was a mere three weeks when we adopted him.  This is when she just started going about things she was picking up.  For instance: he’s the king, rules the house, sincere, in charge, sticks up for himself, takes care of the family, watches over Mouse Girl, very protective, appreciates his time alone, very dedicated, when he gets in trouble he gets his feelings hurt, very healthy, very happy, comes to me (mommy) in my need, comes to me first, loves to talk, can be jealous and clashes with Mouse Girl.

Mommy was quickly writing down all of these words with an occasionally mumble of yes or no here and there.  Was Nancy right in her reading on Hemi.  Let’s see.  He is the king of the house and acts like it.  He thinks he rules the house – we’ve always said that. He is very sincere and stands his ground.  He does watch over Mouse Girl.  He may act like he doesn’t like her and he may be the first to squabble with her but when she hurts or needs him, he is there.  He does like his alone time.  When he gets into trouble for acting out, he does sulk and gets his feelings hurt.  This one kind of blew mom’s mind when Nancy said comes to me (mommy) in need.  We always talk about Hemi being a nurse in a previous life because when mom’s joint pain flares up, he is always there with her.

Did everything she say about Hemi true?  No.  He is not one to talk much.  If he has something to say, he will but just to talk nope.  Is he jealous.  Not particularly.  He knows he’s king of the Hotel Thompson.  And I wouldn’t say that he clashes with Mouse Girl.  He does clash with me at times though and mommy told Nancy about me 🙂  Nancy also said that she could see Hemi living 20 years.

Then mommy went on to Mouse Girl.  This I gotta hear – snorts.   Mommy and daddy adopted Mouse Girl when she was a year and she is currently four years young.  Mommy was sad during this reading.  Nancy said Mouse Girl had a broken heart early in life, went through a difficult time, was either lost or someone let her go, she misses her brothers and sisters, she lived on her own for a while outside, she’s very fast, caught things to eat and survive, brings us treasures, has a mind of her own, very stubborn, cautious of other animals/people, she felt she hit the wheel of fortune when we adopted her, has had more love with us than anyone else, magnetically drawn to a man who she has a strong bond/admiration to and described this man as being built and tall, feels safe with this man who is her protector, very health and extremely happy.

Did everything she say about Mouse Girl true?  We can’t say about her early life.  We don’t know how long she was at the shelter.  It does make sense in some direction though because she is a food whore – yep that’s what I said – snorts.  She is very stubborn and does have a mind of her own – that is definitely for sure!  And about being cautious with other other peeps and animals, this is very true.  She will not come out if anyone comes over.  She did describe daddy in other ways and Mouse Girl is really a daddy’s girl.  In fact at the shelter, Mouse Girl picked daddy and mommy.  She meowed and pawed at the cage until she got their attention.  Once daddy picked her up, she purred and didn’t want to be put back down.  So that was interesting.  And daddy does do Mouse Girl’s combing and takes up for her when Hemi decides to squabble with her…or me for that matter – snorts.

AND Nancy did pick up on me on bits and pieces – who wouldn’t right?  She said I was very close to my mommy which is true.  She picked up that me and Hemi clash – we do at times.  Other times, we sleep together.  She said I was very entertaining and comical.  I have to agree with that – look here at my blog 🙂

Nancy also picked up on two dogs here at the Hotel Thompson.  This was intriguing.  She said one was a male and the other a female, one was reddish/brown and the other golden and they were the same size.  She said she picked up on a golden lab and a cocker spaniel.  She thought these were future dogs – or possibly one future dog.   Now, this was interesting because we did have two dogs here at the Hotel Thompson at the same time.  Both of them passed away a couple of years ago though.  One was a girl reddish brown Chow-Chow-Cocker Spaniel mix and the other was a girl black/white lab border collie mix, both were similar in size.   She was firm about us having another dog here at the Hotel Thompson that would be bigger than the two we had, perhaps another golden lab.  Again interesting because mommy has been looking but not for a bigger dog but for a smaller inside doggy.

Nancy also said that mommy was animal lover and has a lot to give us animals.

Then it went way out left field.  Nancy said she saw a white horse in mom’s future.  This white horse would be amazing and do different tricks.  Shocker – call mommy Lady Godiva because that’s the only way she will have a white horse in her future – snorts.

She also said that there was a strong male presence in the house which was my daddy.  That he does well and she sees him having his own company and progressing more.  She also saw a gold coin – fortune – in his future.  Okay not so much.  Daddy is only the CEO of Hotel Thompson – snorts.  He does not work outside of the home.  He is a stay at home dad, a Mr. Belvedere if you will.  He takes care of us animals, cleans, dusts and runs the place here… all without payment as he says.

So overall, what did mommy think?  She gave her an 8 out of 10.  Very entertaining, very intriguing – take it for what’s it worth.  It was a fun time with interpretation.  Would mommy do it again?  Most certainly!
