31 Days of Spook – Special Guest

Squeals with piggy delight.  My friends I have scored the ultimate story for your today.   Mommy has helped me to get in touch with Mr. Dave Schrader.  If you know anything about the paranormal field, you will recognize the name.  Dave Schrader does a talk show where he is the host and producer of Darkness Radio.  If you haven’t heard of his show, you *must* check it out for chills and thrills.  Dave Schrader has also been seen on television with Zak Bagans on Ghost Adventures, co-hosted the show Paranormal Challenge with Zak Bagans and has made contributions to Ghost Hunters TAPS ParaMagazine.  Dave Schrader currently lives in Minneapolis, Minnesota.

We are VERY excited to present a story from Dave Schrader today.  Now, settle back and enjoy my friends!

It was August of 2005 and our radio show was entering its 8th month on the air when I received an invitation to be a part of a psychic and shamanic exploration at Thayer’s Bed and Breakfast in Annandale, MN.  Since I have no psychic bones in my body, I thought I would check it out and see if I could learn something new and tap into some psy experience for myself. I would be surrounded in a peaceful environment with mediums, psychics and shamans at a well known haunted location.  This might be my best chance yet to witness some interesting phenomena.

I say quietly watching people mill about, discussing what they were picking up on, what spirits they sensed and generally soaking in the atmosphere. During my observation, the resident cat – a large fluffy white beastie – decided I was its new friend and would not leave my side, lap or feet. It stuck to me like I was made of tuna. I stroked the cat like an evil Bond villain as I sat and watched a fascinating scene unfold before me of shared experiences, giddy claims of ghostly presence and some chilling moments as part of the group relayed a story about the creepy man on the top floor that leapt to the wall and skittered up and across the ceiling like a Victorian Spider-Man.

Next came an extraordinary experiment. We were all going to tap into ourselves, meet our spirit guides and do a Shamanic journey. We laid upon the ground, spread eagle and not touching ourselves or others nearby while Hanakia Zedek gently beat a drum to some soothing music and in his deep voice guided us to a meditative trance. By this time, the room lights had been dimmed and the room had been cleared of all cats, kids and other distractions.  We were to just BE in the moment and experience the darkness, the music and open ourselves to contact with our totem, spirit guides or loved ones.

As I lay trying to quiet my mind and the senseless chatter that usually clutters it, I found myself getting more restless, unable to attain the nirvana our leader wanted us to achieve.  That was when my furry friend found his way back to my side.  He would nuzzle my hip and flop on my hand seeking affection and attention. I would pet him for a few seconds than push him away so I could try to slip into a deep meditation, but my kitty companion wasn’t having it. He kept purring, nuzzling and pushing against me.

After 20 minutes or so all with my eyes closed, I finally relented and began giving him the love he craved. My hands scratching the deep fur bringing about even more purrs and nuzzles. I began to wonder how much longer this foray into futility would continue with our Shamanic leader. Obviously I was not going to become more enlightened or have a profound moment.  I opened my eyes and glanced down to see which cat was so desperately in need of my attention. My eyes widened, my hand stopped mid scratch and I froze. I could feel the cat purring, pushing against my leg and hand simultaneously but to my utter amazement, there was no cat there.

I paused assuming my eyes were playing tricks on me and that they had just not adjusted properly to the low light setting.  I closed them tightly, drew in a deep breath and began digging deep into the fur of phantom friend once more. I opened my eyes a second time and there was my hand, hovering mid-air, stroking….emptiness. There was no cat to bee seen, but I could feel and hear it. Within moments, the drumming stopped and the lights began to lift as they adjusted the dimmer switch, our journey to the ether-world was at an end yet here I was stroking an imaginary cat.

The crowd milled about in a semi comatose state. My brain raced trying to make sense of what had just happened to me. I was afraid to speak up for fear of looking like a fool despite the wild claims I had heard from other experiencers all night long. Then I heard the group begin to discuss their personal reflections of the drumming and meditation when one of the people spoke up and said, “How about the ghost cat?” Many in the group admitted to seeing a ghostly cat all night long checking us out and stalking the room. Still I stood silent.

“He was sure curious about what we were doing. I heard the owner say her favorite cat passed away a few weeks back, its nice to know he still calls this home.:”  I was astounded, did I just spend 30 minutes petting a specter? I don’t even like cats I thought to myself, why did he mess with me?

The crowd dispersed and a few days later I got an email from a girl that also attended the event. She had laid to my immediate right and she informed me she knew I had an experience and she had been petting that same cat all night. We had been ping ponging the cat between us for the evening when we would try to focus on the guided meditation and brush it off, it would move to the other one of us.
That was one of the first truly amazing experiences I ever had that was more than a fleeting moment that could easily be explained away and I will cherish that forever.

Unanswered Questions

Oh snorts!  I recently saw this on mom’s Facebook account and I just had to share my friends.  How many of you can relate to this too?

I am 40 and I just realized I still have so many unanswered questions!?!?!

I never found out who let the dogs out… the way to get to Sesame Street… why Dora doesn’t just use Google Maps… why we don’t ever see the headline “Psychic Wins Lottery”… why women can’t put on mascara with their mouth closed… why “abbreviated” is such a long word… why lemon juice is made with artificial flavor yet dish-washing liquid is made with real lemons… why they sterilize the needle for lethal injections… and, why do you have to “put your two cents in” but it’s only a “penny for your thoughts” where’s that extra penny going to… why do The Alphabet Song and Twinkle Twinkle Little Star have the same tune… why did you just try to sing those two previous songs… and just what is Victoria’s secret? …and do you really think I am this witty ?? … I actually stole this from a friend, who stole it from his brother’s girlfriend’s, Uncle’s cousin’s, baby momma’s Doctor.

Party On!

Oh friends – ppssst – guess what?  Are you ready for this?  It doesn’t happen very often but I have the entire Hotel Thompson to myself today.  Squeals with piggy delight.  What to do first?  The choices are endless!

You are probably asking yourself how this happened… right?  I’m a psychic!  That’s right, call me the psychic pig – snorts and rolls with laughter.  You see mom was in her confinement of Jury Duty this week so she had to go to the office for a bit to get some things caught up.  (And she did say she will do a story about her captivity – be on the lookout for it next week maybe.)

Well mom took daddy with her.  The cats are at the groomers and Houdini is at grandma’s.  Can you say party on here with the piggy?  I’ve already ran through the halls, inspected all of the rooms, answered my emails and working on some blogs.  Perhaps I will text mom later.  You know, to find out when she is coming home.  I gotta make sure I clean everything before she gets back.

I smell something delicious coming from the kitchen area that I gotta investigate.  And guess what – with their rush to get out of the home this morning guess who didn’t put up the piggy gate to the kitchen – score for this little oinker!  Don’t worry, I won’t make a mess.  I’ll be the perfect little porker.

So what do you have planned today?  Anything exciting?  Have you ever been left home alone?  It’s kind of scary in a way but so exciting on the other hoof.  I can county maybe this being the second time this has ever happened in FOUR years.  I’m a big pig now.  They need to do this more often.  See I’ll be good today to show them I can be trusted… somewhat.  Now, I’m off to get the front door.  That must be the pizza I ordered 🙂

Bacon’s Tales of Terror

Today for my Bacon’s Tales of Terror I have a little something to share with you that has a twist to it.  It’s not about ghosts, cemeteries or things that go bump in the night.  Before you say it’s not scary then, finish reading and then you decide.  But don’t say that I didn’t warn you.  This is weird scary.  Blow your mind scary.  Makes you think scary.

You see last month, mom and dad took me to the beach FINALLY (which is another posting for another day – snorts).  Every morning, they went to a local breakfast place.  It was awesome.  And I can say that from first hoof experience because they brought me back a piggy bag 🙂

One morning, a different waitress came to take mom and dad’s order.  Mommy kept staring at her and finally asked her when she was having a baby.  The waitress went silent. The waitress then said she was blown away.  She had just found out the day before that she was pregnant and it was something that her and her husband had no idea.  Mommy talked to the waitress a few more minutes about the situation.

Later on, daddy asked mommy about what happened.  Mommy said that when the waitress was taking their order, mom smelled baby powder and had a visual of a baby wrapped in blue.  And by the way, this is the second time my mom has done this.

So there you go – weird or what?

Bacon’s Tales of Terror

Welcome back my friends to Bacon’s Tales of Terror on this 13th of the month.

Today, I want to talk about superstitions – that’s great for a 13th posting isn’t it?  Snorts.

Did you know that back in the day, breathing ‘in’ was interpreted as breathing in life while sneezing was interpreted as a swift exit of your essence or soul.  If your soul left your body through a sneeze then you would die without your soul.  This was the basis for further superstitions about sneezing throughout the centuries.

Do you tell people that sneeze, “God Bless You?”  This is actually a practice that is practiced all over the world and dates back to February 16, 590 AD.  Pope Gregory the Great decreed that prayers must be said to fight against a deadly plague in Italy at that time.  The plague was associated to be fatal by those who sneezed.  Telling someone, “God Bless You”, after they sneezed would protect people from the effects of the plague.

Saying, “God Bless You” can also be linked to around 1665 during the black plague in Europe.  Violent sneezing with the black plague was the sign of the end of the disease and death was certain to follow.  The pope made it a law so those that sneezed would be blessed due to their soon-to-be death.  It was also during this time that cover one’s mouth with their hand or cloth was put into place in order to stop the spread of further diseases.

In 17th century England if someone sneezed, people around them would remove their hats, curtsy or bow and wish them, “God Bless You”.  In the 1800’s in England, this poem came out:

Sneeze on Monday – sneeze for danger.

Sneeze on Tuesday – kiss a stranger.

Sneeze on Wednesday – sneeze for a letter.

Sneeze on Thursday – something better.

Sneeze on Friday – sneeze for woe.

Sneeze on Saturday – a journey to go.

Sneeze on Sunday – your safety seek – for Satan will have you for the rest of the week!

There is good luck also associated with sneezing:  if you sneeze between noon and midnight; if the family cat sneezes; if two people sneeze at the same time; if you sneeze twice in a row; or if you turn your head right when you sneezed.

But there’s also bad luck associated with sneezing:  if you sneeze in the morning while getting dressed; if you turn your head left while sneezing; if you sneeze three times in a row and someone is talking bad about you while sneezing four times is the sign of a cold.

Psychic Reading from Psychic Source

Mommy was contacted recently from Psychic Source for a free psychic pet reading.  I’ve seen other anipals do it on their blogs and we were intrigued.  Normally, I would have jumped at a chance for something exciting and new.  Then I started thinking about it and got a little worried.  One eye up more than the other… what if this psychic told mommy about my piggy secrets.  I mean there are some things that I can’t have getting out… you know?

So I did what any great piggy sibling would do.  I threw the purr things under the bus volunteered the purr things here at the Hotel Thompson.   I mean we could ALL benefit from knowing what those two are thinking about here – snorts.  They asked me to send them a picture of the two.  I searched high and low to find the just ‘perfect’ picture of them to show their hard-headedness personality.  I finally decided on these two pictures.  May I present to you her highness Mouse Girl on the left and his majesty Hemi to the right.

Pictures were emailed and about a week and a half to two weeks later, we got a date/time set up for Thursday, May 8, 2014 at 7:30PM.  We asked for around this time because me and daddy wanted to hear too.

The reading was set up with Nancy.  Nancy specialties are love, she is a pet psychic and she is a clairvoyant.  Mom was a little excited about calling to find out what Nancy would pick up on here at the Hotel Thompson.  Here are the results of the phone call that lasted a little over 30 minutes 🙂

Nancy immediately picked up on Hemi and wanted to start with him.  She asked about his sex, how old he was currently and how old he was when we adopted him.  Mommy advised her that he is a male, currently 10 years young and that he was a mere three weeks when we adopted him.  This is when she just started going about things she was picking up.  For instance: he’s the king, rules the house, sincere, in charge, sticks up for himself, takes care of the family, watches over Mouse Girl, very protective, appreciates his time alone, very dedicated, when he gets in trouble he gets his feelings hurt, very healthy, very happy, comes to me (mommy) in my need, comes to me first, loves to talk, can be jealous and clashes with Mouse Girl.

Mommy was quickly writing down all of these words with an occasionally mumble of yes or no here and there.  Was Nancy right in her reading on Hemi.  Let’s see.  He is the king of the house and acts like it.  He thinks he rules the house – we’ve always said that. He is very sincere and stands his ground.  He does watch over Mouse Girl.  He may act like he doesn’t like her and he may be the first to squabble with her but when she hurts or needs him, he is there.  He does like his alone time.  When he gets into trouble for acting out, he does sulk and gets his feelings hurt.  This one kind of blew mom’s mind when Nancy said comes to me (mommy) in need.  We always talk about Hemi being a nurse in a previous life because when mom’s joint pain flares up, he is always there with her.

Did everything she say about Hemi true?  No.  He is not one to talk much.  If he has something to say, he will but just to talk nope.  Is he jealous.  Not particularly.  He knows he’s king of the Hotel Thompson.  And I wouldn’t say that he clashes with Mouse Girl.  He does clash with me at times though and mommy told Nancy about me 🙂  Nancy also said that she could see Hemi living 20 years.

Then mommy went on to Mouse Girl.  This I gotta hear – snorts.   Mommy and daddy adopted Mouse Girl when she was a year and she is currently four years young.  Mommy was sad during this reading.  Nancy said Mouse Girl had a broken heart early in life, went through a difficult time, was either lost or someone let her go, she misses her brothers and sisters, she lived on her own for a while outside, she’s very fast, caught things to eat and survive, brings us treasures, has a mind of her own, very stubborn, cautious of other animals/people, she felt she hit the wheel of fortune when we adopted her, has had more love with us than anyone else, magnetically drawn to a man who she has a strong bond/admiration to and described this man as being built and tall, feels safe with this man who is her protector, very health and extremely happy.

Did everything she say about Mouse Girl true?  We can’t say about her early life.  We don’t know how long she was at the shelter.  It does make sense in some direction though because she is a food whore – yep that’s what I said – snorts.  She is very stubborn and does have a mind of her own – that is definitely for sure!  And about being cautious with other other peeps and animals, this is very true.  She will not come out if anyone comes over.  She did describe daddy in other ways and Mouse Girl is really a daddy’s girl.  In fact at the shelter, Mouse Girl picked daddy and mommy.  She meowed and pawed at the cage until she got their attention.  Once daddy picked her up, she purred and didn’t want to be put back down.  So that was interesting.  And daddy does do Mouse Girl’s combing and takes up for her when Hemi decides to squabble with her…or me for that matter – snorts.

AND Nancy did pick up on me on bits and pieces – who wouldn’t right?  She said I was very close to my mommy which is true.  She picked up that me and Hemi clash – we do at times.  Other times, we sleep together.  She said I was very entertaining and comical.  I have to agree with that – look here at my blog 🙂

Nancy also picked up on two dogs here at the Hotel Thompson.  This was intriguing.  She said one was a male and the other a female, one was reddish/brown and the other golden and they were the same size.  She said she picked up on a golden lab and a cocker spaniel.  She thought these were future dogs – or possibly one future dog.   Now, this was interesting because we did have two dogs here at the Hotel Thompson at the same time.  Both of them passed away a couple of years ago though.  One was a girl reddish brown Chow-Chow-Cocker Spaniel mix and the other was a girl black/white lab border collie mix, both were similar in size.   She was firm about us having another dog here at the Hotel Thompson that would be bigger than the two we had, perhaps another golden lab.  Again interesting because mommy has been looking but not for a bigger dog but for a smaller inside doggy.

Nancy also said that mommy was animal lover and has a lot to give us animals.

Then it went way out left field.  Nancy said she saw a white horse in mom’s future.  This white horse would be amazing and do different tricks.  Shocker – call mommy Lady Godiva because that’s the only way she will have a white horse in her future – snorts.

She also said that there was a strong male presence in the house which was my daddy.  That he does well and she sees him having his own company and progressing more.  She also saw a gold coin – fortune – in his future.  Okay not so much.  Daddy is only the CEO of Hotel Thompson – snorts.  He does not work outside of the home.  He is a stay at home dad, a Mr. Belvedere if you will.  He takes care of us animals, cleans, dusts and runs the place here… all without payment as he says.

So overall, what did mommy think?  She gave her an 8 out of 10.  Very entertaining, very intriguing – take it for what’s it worth.  It was a fun time with interpretation.  Would mommy do it again?  Most certainly!
