Administrative Professionals Day

Journalist Rocky the Squirrel here –

Keeping his paws on the nuts of the world –

Today , April 25th, is a wonderfully special day for not only Bacon’s mom but for all of the Administrative Professionals out there in the world.  Whether you call them secretaries, administrative assistants or my personal favorite Octopuses, they do not get enough praise for what they do.  They are the office keepers, the schedulers, the reminders, the speed typists – the office jugglers.  They not only keep the work load going but they remind their bosses of their personal dates to remember and patch up the boo-boos that happen while at work.  They should be praised daily and reminded of their wonders.

So by all means, don’t forget your office Octopus.  Show them your gratitude.  A small token of a card, a cup of coffee, a gift card, flowers or take them to lunch.  Just don’t forget that special worker.

And to mom and everyone else – Happy Secretary/Administrative/Octopus Day.  We here at the Hotel Thompson wish you all the best today.  You are so worthy – we definitely couldn’t live without you!

Journal to Healthier Living – Week 11

Welcome my friends.  I’m tweaking my weekly journey with my healthier living.  It’s a step in the right direction for sure.  I hope you come along for the ride.  Instead of day-to-day comments, I’m going to post something from my personal journal to share.  Hope you enjoy.  Remember all of us go down this path and we are all in it together ❤

Week of 03/18-03/24/2018 – Week 11

“Dear Journal – Slow and sure wins the race.  I think I’m going to start taking yoga again to relieve some stress. I did it before – nothing pretzel style – mostly stretching and doing what I can just to let things go.  It seems like it might be a little hectic in the next couple of weeks.  And I’m moving.  Surprise.  No, not the Hotel Thompson.  I’m moving offices at work – giggles.  It’s a good thing.  Right now, my current office is the size of a postage stamp… who cares where the bean counter works huh?  But soon… soon I will be moving on up!  And when I say postage stamp, I really mean that.  I don’t have a door.  I don’t have any windows.  I can literally stand in the middle of the office, stretch one foot out and touch the wall and stretch one arm out at the same time touching the other wall.  I’ve never complained.  I don’t need much and I’ve made my space homey.  And I won’t believe it until I see it… a new office.  WOW.

This week walked:  5.38

TOTAL 2018 Miles:  85.69

TOTAL 2017 Miles:  541.06

❤ small goals turn into big accomplishments ❤

Dear Bacon

20131208-213049.jpgDear Bacon, Do you recognize this look my friend?  You know the doorbell rings but you are running around in your birthday suit.  You answer it from the corner wondering, “Who would come over without calling first” kind of look in your face.  You are secretly wishing it’s a girls scout selling cookies but oh no – it’s only someone selling something.  You give them this eat crap and die look before shutting the door.  No offense solicitors but unless you have thin mints, go to the neighbors house.  Signed Don’t Bother

Dear Don’t Bother,  YES I recognize that look.  Once all of the humans have settled into the Hotel Thompson, it’s a no bother zone unless you phone first – especially after dark. Shivers – I’ve seen too many shows on the Investigative Discovery channel.  No way am I opening the door.  And you are right… unless they have thin mints.  They could be someone from a horror show but if they are selling thin mints, I’m grabbing the boxes

20131208-213126.jpgDear Bacon,  You know sometimes I really hate my siblings.  They tell me that I chase butterflies too often grinning like the Cheshire cat and singing Disney songs. What’s it to them?  Who’s a happy gator – this guy!  Can’t we all just be happy and get along?  Signed Chomp

Dear Chomp,  I’m with you my bud.  I’m singing Hakuna Matata right now in my head.  It’s such a happy song all about no worries for the rest of your lives.  If you don’t know it, I highly recommend you looking it up and playing it.  It’s great and perky – just a song for chasing butterflies.  Be yourself and don’t let your siblings bully you into something you’re not!

20131208-213221.jpg

Dear Bacon, I’ve called this meeting here today to talk to you about your little brother Houdini.  You know us dogs have skills.  We can be your allies or we can be your enemies.  You don’t want us to be your enemies.  I’m just saying.  This face may look all cute and everything but my inner dog is 500 pounds just like Houdini’s.  You might want to rethink your relationship with the little guy.  We can come in handy for a lot of things.  Signed Fluffy

Dear Fluffy,  Oh my friend, there is no doubt about the skills of you pooches.  Houdini is my little buddy.  Sometimes I even let him sleep with me in my bed at night.  He’s a great guy and helps me out with the purr things here all of the time.  Especially that Hemi who uses my butt like a slapping post.  No worries – I know ya’ll rule!

20131208-213256.jpg

Dear Bacon, Score for the little dog!  I’ve been watching the humans and where they get my food.  Oh barks!  One day when they weren’t looking, I was able to get into the bag of heaven and SCORE!  Oh dude – I was in puppy heaven for a while until the master caught me.  But by that time, I had eaten half of the bag.  I was so fat I couldn’t walk.  I was rolling around with a silly happy grin on my face.  You ever done this before?  Signed Rolly Polly

Dear Rolly Polly,  Snorts!  I ❤ this my friend.  I’ve never gotten into the bag before.  But once when I was Nana’s, I ate so much that I couldn’t even squeak I was so pudgy.  I was uncomfortable for a while but like you – it was so worth it!

20131208-213355.jpg

Dear Bacon,  I hate it when the humans make me dress up.  We had to go to a wedding this past weekend and they insisted on me wearing a tux.  Really?  I’m a dog.  Rolls doggy eyes.  Tell me they don’t make you dress in this ridiculous outfit.  Signed Mister Doggy in the Wedding

Dear Mister Doggy in the Wedding – I have to admit pal that you make that tux look good.  Really you do.  Sometimes we have to do things that we really don’t want to do but need to do.  That was probably one of those situations.  I don’t particular have to dress up… yet.  But can you believe Houdini here has a tux. 🙂  It happens to the best of us.  Wear it with pride!

Remember my friends – we can’t have Dear Bacon without your letters and pictures.  Please keep sending them to me – snorts and thanks!

T.G.I.F.

T.G.I.F.  Everyone recognizes those four letters from all over the world.  Thank Goodness It’s Friday.  Those four letters brings smiles and hoorays to the humans and us anipals.  But I bet you didn’t know that they also have another meaning.  Shocking huh?

You see my mom has worked a lot of different jobs.  She once worked with our local school system for six years.  Trust me, she has told me stories of those times.  There is *never* a dull moment working with elementary children – ever!  One of the stories that she told me was about T.G.I.F.  I’ve never forgotten it and neither has she.  It was sweet and kind and so childish – it was great and still brings a smile to mom’s face and mine to this day.  I’ll tell you what happened and you be the judge here okay.

Mom was in the front office of the school and this little boy who was in the first grade came into the office.  He was crying.  So mom being the gal she is walked up to him and immediately hugged him.  She then took him to the side office and they sat on the couch together.  You see he was having a bad day and it was only 9:00AM.  His dad was overseas in the military and his mom had to work.  She couldn’t get off work to come see him in his first grade play.  He was beside himself!  And for a first grader – this was just the end of the world – you can imagine.

Mom talked to him for a few moments and tried to get him to brighten up a bit.  She volunteered to step in for his mom to come see him in his play.  His upside down face turned into the biggest smile you would ever see and his tears of grief turned into tears of joy.  He just couldn’t believe that my mom was going to do that for him.  She got the time from him that she should attend and helped him clean up his face.

That’s when she noticed that one of his shoes were untied.  She got down on the floor and tied it for him.  That’s when she saw this T.G.I.F. written on the toes of his shoes.

What in the world?!  Was this small child thankful that it was Friday?  So she looked at him bewildered and said, “Scotty, what does TGIF mean to you?”  Scotty looked at my mom, grinned and started laughing.  The he said the sweetest thing to my mom.

“Miss Smith, I have a problem putting on my shoes.  My daddy fixed me right up though.  He wrote TGIF on the toes of my shoes to remind me that Toes Go In First.”

Dear Bacon

20131106-104329.jpgDear Bacon,

My human thought she would bring me to work today.  As you can tell, neither one of us got a lot of work done.  Well, my mom didn’t.  I did because her desk was the most frequented visited cubicle that day.  I wonder why?  Signed Shrimp

Dear Shrimp,

Smiles and wipes piggy eyes.  Aren’t you just the most adorable, cutest little thing I’ve seen in a while.  I just want to rub that little belly of yours.  You must have really been tired little guy.  Maybe you should do more visits to work with mommy.  I think in no time you would have all of her co-workers wrapped around your little paws!

.

20131106-104634.jpg

Dear Bacon,

I know we are suppose to be enemies but we’re not.  We are buds.  He watches my back and I watch his.  We have the most interesting conversations at our house.  Why can’t we all just get along in the world like us?  Signed Tom and Jerry

Dear Tom and Jerry,

Ya’ll have a great point.  We *should* all just get along in this world.  There shouldn’t be anything saying that we can’t because of one thing or another.  Ya’ll are setting the best example – keep up the great work my friends!

.

20131106-104815.jpgDear Bacon,

I was this close to freedom before they caught me and put me back in lockdown.  I could taste freedom and it tasted pretty darn good.  Any suggestions for next time?  Signed Stretch

Dear Stretch,

I have to laugh buddy.  They say your kind is slow and not full of spunk but I think *they* are wrong.  You show the tenacity in making the ‘great escape’.  You were so close – how you got that far up on the fence is beyond me but way to go my friend.  Next time though, might I suggest just watching out for the gate to open.  It might be a safer way for your taste of freedom.

.

20131106-104842.jpg

Dear Bacon,

What?  Haven’t you ever seen a bird wearing a hoodie before?  It gets cold.  I don’t have a ‘fur coat’ like you do.  My feathers only provide so much for warmth.  I think it’s a great idea.  We should all have one, you think?  Signed Fun Times

Dear Fun Times,

I think it’s great!  You look warm, festive and ready to go meet the world in that hoodie.  I say don’t worry about what anyone else might think.  As long as you are warm and comfy, who cares!

.

20131106-104910.jpg

Dear Bacon,

I need help.  I know you have Bashful.  Bashful is like a happening international traveling pet rock.  My owner, he just keeps me in a cage and feeds me.  I don’t get that life of first class traveling or anything.  Any suggestions- can you help me out?  Signed Bug

Dear Bug,

I am so sorry little guy.  Your owner must not have gotten the parenting guide like I did with Bashful.  You have to have exercise.  Your owner needs to walk you or at least put a hamster wheel in your cage for exercise.  Does he take you out for social time, watching television?  Heck, if anything else, you need a friend.  You give him my number, I’ll email it back to you.  I’ll talk to him and see what we can come up with my friend.

.

Remember Anipals – if you have a problem or a question, please send it to me with a picture at baconthompson@gmail.com
