31 Days of Spook – La Pascualita

Oh my friends.  This tale today is scary unbelievable. It makes you want to do a double take… and possibly a triple take.  But, I’m getting ahead of myself.  You see working on my 31 Days of Spook takes month of advance preparation.  All year long, I’m looking for just the right stories to bring to you.  Stories of the macabre, ghosts, strange tales, paranormal and things that go bump in the night.  But this story, it caught my attention and I’ve been waiting for some time to share it.

This is something that is strange.  It takes place in Chihuahua, Mexico.  There’s a well known bridal shop in the town called La Popular.  In the bridal shop, there is a mannequin nicknamed La Pascualita that is wearing a wedding dress in the store window.  Sounds all innocent enough, right?  Well here’s the twist.  Some say that La Pascualita might be real.  Do I have your interest piqued now?

You see, for the past 75 years this bridal shop has had rumors flying around about La Pascualita.  Some believe that this mannequin is actually a perfectly preserved corpse!

La Pascualita was placed in the window on March 25, 1930.  Locals saw it and knew that something just wasn’t right about it.  Look at the pictures to the left.  Do you know notice anything odd?

According to the legend, La Popular’s owner Pascuala Esparza had a daughter. His daughter tragically passed away on her wedding day from the bite of a black widow spider.  Some believe that Esparza had his daughter embalmed and that she is now the famous La Pascualita in the shop window.  Of course Esparza has denied such rumors.

Funny thing though – if La Pascualita isn’t Esparza’s daughter why all the secrecy.  What secrecy you ask?  Well, of all of the employees of the shop there are only two that are allowed to change her clothing and that is only behind a closed door.

Other employees of the shop so that La Pascualita’s hands are very realistic and some say you can even see wrinkles and varicose veins on her legs.  Other employees say they come into the shop in the early mornings only to see that La Pascualita has changed positions on her own.  And then there are other employees that say La Pascualita ‘watches’ them during the day.

You be the judge.  What do you think?

Dear Bacon

Dear Bacon – I’m not sure what happened.  First the human was standing in front of the refrigerator door.  The next thing I knew, the human fell down like that Humpty Dumpty dude.  I have to admit the human made a pretzel look pretty everyday the way they curled up and bounced.  Do your humans ever do anything like this?  Signed I’ll Give That a 10 out of 10

Dear I’ll Give That a 10 out of 10 – First, I wouldn’t be any kind of friend without asking is your human okay?  Did they get back up after their yoga move?  I’m saying yoga move because humans put themselves in all kinds of weird positions when they do that stuff.  In fact, I have to admit that I’m pretty impressed with your move on top of the refrigerator.  What do you call that?  Upward kitty stance?  Just be careful.  I’ve heard that first step off of the refrigerator can be a booger bear – the floor doesn’t give.

Dear Bacon – This sucks.  Trust me – leave the work stuff to the humans.  Getting up at an ungodly hour is bad enough.  But then the humans have to dress up in these clothes – eeww.  How do they not pee on themselves wearing this stuff?  Signed Help Me!

Dear Help Me!  Oh I know my friend.  I don’t envy mommy going to the work place ever.  First you have to dress up then you have to drive there.  Then apparently you put up with a lot of crap and there are no treats.  What the heck do they work for?  Shaking my head.  Stay at home for as long as you can.

Dear Bacon – The humans are so fickle.  I hear them talking about this diet stuff all of the time and how they don’t eat and how the scales are nothing but lies and they don’t understand why they are not losing weight.  Breathe.  I know.  I know everything.  You see, I sit here on my perch in the dark at night.  I know why they are not losing any weight.  They are coming into the kitchen at night and eating out of the fridge and cabinets.  Doh – that’s why they are not losing weight.  Do your humans do this?  Signed The Watcher

Dear The Watcher – In a word – YES.  My humans do this too.  Then they yell at the scales at the end of the week.  Hilarious is what I call it.  My mom calls the scales a perpetual liar every week.  Of course, sometimes she doesn’t know that I have my hoof on the back of it – snorts.

Dear Bacon – You give a child an inch and they take a mile.  I told little Rusty he could play in front of the tree.  What does the little tyke do?  He climbs the tree.  Why do I care?  Because then he started squealing like someone was taking away his honey.  He was stuck and couldn’t get down.  What are we going to do with the children these days?  Signed Mommy Bear

Dear Mommy Bear – You know I feel you but you have to admit that the little guy is cute stuck on the side of the tree there.  Good thing he has those nice long nails to hang into the bark.  Give him a break this time okay.  He’s learning life and he’s still a kid.  Let him be a kid for as long as he can.  Kudos to you being a great mom!

.

Remember friends – Dear Bacon can’t happen without YOU.  Please continue sending me your letters and pictures to my email address.  ♥

Food Porn – To Twist or Not To Twist That is the Question

Here in this picture we see shrimp pasta – does’t it look delicious?  This comes from one of mom/dad’s favorite restaurants called Red Lobster.  They just love their shrimp pasta.  They were sharing this dish and I was looking at it when it dawned on me about something.  Look closely at the picture and kind of lean your head to the left.  You see there are two forks.  Now let’s talk about techniques in the eating of pasta shall we.  I’ve learned that this is a treacherous position to take with some folks but I’m up for the piggy challenge.  Are you?

Now, personally, I would just chomp that fine looking shrimp pasta all down without coming up for air.  It looks great to me.  But humans, they use forks and manners which dad reminds me of often that I don’t have.  Hmmpphh – so says the man who burps the alphabet huh?

Dad believes in the fork straight down and twist to get all pasta in one giant happy scoop.  Mom is not a twist kind of person.  She believes in ‘cutting’ the pasta and then scooping it up to her awaiting mouth.  Why does she do this?  She says because as a child her dad would play tic-tac-toe with her on spaghetti night.  Come again mom?  Have you been drinking the vodka today already?

Really, she says that spaghetti night was hard for a kid to learn the twist thing.  So her dad would make a tic-tac-toe chart on her plate breaking up the spaghetti and ‘cutting’ it into the pattern.  He would then challenge her to the game and eating it.  Thus, this is why she cuts it.  Does that make sense?  A nearly fifty something still playing with her food.  And mom/dad fuss at me for playing with mine.  Some things are just not fair.

So the question is my friends – to twist or not to twist.
