Texts from Bacon

How do you make the day go by faster?  Of course by texting mommy at the worky place – snorts.  My texts are in blue and moms are in gray.  Hey what can I say?  There’s never a dull moment here at the Hotel Thompson.  Enjoy my friends!

Paw Time with Houdini

This is my upward crane pose in doggy yoga – barks with puppy laughter.  I went to work with mom one day and of course I was on my best behavior.  This was me begging for her to stop work and take a break to hold me because well you know I needed some reassurance of how much she loved me.  Do you ever get like that?  Of course, she held me for the longest time. I even sat in her lap and on top of her desk while she worked.  She said she could work over me… and she did – barks with puppy laughter.

Today I leave you with something from daddy.  You know that he and mom can not go out unchaperoned together.  That leads to trouble.  Today’s video from daddy just proves that point.  Hope you enjoy it my friends. Smooches and puppy licks.

National Stress Awareness Day

Journalist Rocky the Squirrel here –

Keeping his paws on the nuts of the world –

Today April 16th is a day that Bacon’s mom can definitely wrap her arms around – National Stress Awareness Day.  This day was created in 1992 sponsored by  the Health Resource Network (HRN). They started this holiday to increase public awareness of the causes and cures of stress.  And we all know that stress can come from a variety of different reasons:  paying bills, work, children, schedules, car problems, friends – you name it and stress can come from it.  And here in the United States with taxes being due yesterday, what better day to have this holiday then today?

Today is the day to acknowledge that you are stressed out and then do something about it.  Go for a walk.  Try some meditation.  Try some exercise.  Do some yoga.  Just lay down and relax.  Just for a bit, don’t concentrate on the wrongs in your life but concentrate on the things that you have to be grateful for.  Shrug off this stress even if it is just for today.  I know this afternoon me and Bacon are going to try yoga.  Wish us luck – his downward pig pose is not something I’m looking forward to – chitter chatter!

My Mommy – PLOL

My human mommy – she kills me!  This is too funny.  This is a TRUE story that really happened to my mommy at the worky place.  She came home and told me and daddy about it last night.  When I tell you that we were all rolling around laughing – OMP (oh my pig!)  It was too rich and too funny.  Only *my* mommy could do something so hilarious.

You see every day when mommy goes to the worky place 80% of her work is typing, typing and more typing.  She types over 100 words per minute.  (I can type 25 hooves per minute – you can tell where I get it from – snorts).  The other 20% of her job is calculating monthly STATs, price/weight conversions and financial matters.

Yesterday she was typing an evaluation and the sentence was suppose to read as follows:

The perpetrator observed the clock.

She finished typing up the paper and turned it in to the designated person.  That’s when they caught it and started snorting at work.  Mommy forgot the L in CLOCK.

Snorts.  Trust me, the men mommy work with will NOT let her forget this.  Just goes to show you – no ones perfect by any means.

My Trip to Mom’s Worky Place

I’ve mentioned several times that mom took me to her worky place one time a very long time ago when I was still little.  A lot of you have asked to hear the story so now is a good time to make you laugh.

So I think I was around 15-16 weeks when mom decided I needed to visit the worky place.  Well, actually the people she worked with decided they wanted to see cute little ole me in my prime and talked her into bringing me for a short visit.  Mom’s work was in the middle of relocating so they were temporarily working out of a trailer.  And trust me, that trailer was packed.  Mom took off one Friday and decided to bring me up that day.

She loaded me in the car with dad and off we were to the worky place.  Mom said she worked with a bunch of pigs and I couldn’t wait to see others of my kind.  We got to the trailer and she carried me in and the doors were shut.  Everyone came over and oohh and aaaweed at me.  Funny thing, I kept looking but didn’t see any of my kind at all – it just a bunch of men.  One of them told mom to put me down that they wanted to see me roaming around the office.  She asked them if they had ever seen a piglet fly because I could.  They said it wouldn’t be a problem.  She put me down and I was off from one end of that trailer to the next.  All of those manly guys were laughing and jumping out of my way.  I had them hopping!

Then came the time for us to go back home.  This is where the fun begins.  Mom told them they have to help catch me and it wouldn’t be easy.  Have you ever seen grown men trying to catch a fast little miniature pot bellied pig?  It is really a vision to see.  Mom so should have recorded it on her phone for prosperity.

The guys were sneaking around trying to corner me and they just couldn’t catch me.  And of course by this time, it was a game to me.  I didn’t want to be caught so they were just going to have to wear me out and I’m a kid so I knew I could outlast them.  I was doing great zipping here and there and escaping every little move they were planning.  But there was one guy that mom works for – I knew he was going to give me a run for *my* money.

I went over to a corner and was pondering my next move.  This one guy was near me but he was ignoring me which meant to me he didn’t see me – pig logic you know.  That’s why it took me completely off guard when he reached down from no where and picked me up handing me off to mommy.  He did this so fast that I didn’t even know what happened until it happened which meant he startled me.  Do you know what happens when you startle a pig?  Any ideas?

Now remember mom is holding me and I’m startled – so startled that I wizz all over her.  That’s what happens when you startle a pig.  You can laugh – mom thinks its funny now.  And I mean it was a good wizz too.  The kind that went down her jeans and dripped into her shoes kind.  And she had to drive home all wet like that.  I’ll give it to mom, she didn’t get mad.  She told me that if I guy grabbed her like the one did me, she would have probably wizzed too.

So there you go, the story of my trip to mom’s worky place.  They have since moved from that trailer and are in a nice office now.  They want me to come up there.  They said there was LOTS of places to run.  I don’t really think mom will go for it.  And you know what?  I have never figured out what mom meant when she said she works with pigs and then comes home to a pig?

Journal to Healthier Living – Week 11

Welcome my friends.  I’m tweaking my weekly journey with my healthier living.  It’s a step in the right direction for sure.  I hope you come along for the ride.  Instead of day-to-day comments, I’m going to post something from my personal journal to share.  Hope you enjoy.  Remember all of us go down this path and we are all in it together ❤

Week of 03/18-03/24/2018 – Week 11

“Dear Journal – Slow and sure wins the race.  I think I’m going to start taking yoga again to relieve some stress. I did it before – nothing pretzel style – mostly stretching and doing what I can just to let things go.  It seems like it might be a little hectic in the next couple of weeks.  And I’m moving.  Surprise.  No, not the Hotel Thompson.  I’m moving offices at work – giggles.  It’s a good thing.  Right now, my current office is the size of a postage stamp… who cares where the bean counter works huh?  But soon… soon I will be moving on up!  And when I say postage stamp, I really mean that.  I don’t have a door.  I don’t have any windows.  I can literally stand in the middle of the office, stretch one foot out and touch the wall and stretch one arm out at the same time touching the other wall.  I’ve never complained.  I don’t need much and I’ve made my space homey.  And I won’t believe it until I see it… a new office.  WOW.

Deep Thoughts Monday

20130317-154151.jpg

This morning after my breakfast of piggy chow and Cheerios I was reading the newspaper… You know catching up on the current events. While reading the paper, I had a cup of coffee that looked kind of like this.  That started me thinking. Wouldn’t you love to go to your neighborhood coffee shop and order a cup of joe like this? Wouldn’t it make you smile? You would think of me, wouldn’t you? It takes a very talented barista to pull this off and make coffee look this good. Maybe Starbucks needs to add it to their menu. Mom would definitely order it.

Having this cup of coffee made me think of the different changes in the world. What if… Let me stop laughing… What if the roles were reversed and mommy stayed at home and I went to her worky place? I think being a pig I could fit right into the mix. It might work. Let’s really think about it shall we.

Mommys computer has dual monitors. I’m not sure what that actually means but it sounds exciting. Mom says she types a lot all day long and plays with numbers. Now I can’t type the 100 plus words a minute that she does cause you know she has 10 fingers and I only have 2 hooves but I can try. And playing with numbers, well I’m not so good at that but it should be interesting in payroll and monthly STATs that she does. Ok well maybe going to work wouldn’t be a good idea.

Then I started thinking about the animal store called Petco. Have you been there? They have a cat and dog buffet bar that the humans can fix for them. Petco, I have a complaint with that. Why can’t you make a piggy buffet bar? Just saying.

Journal to Healthier Living – Week 9

Welcome my friends.  I’m tweaking my weekly journey with my healthier living.  It’s a step in the right direction for sure.  I hope you come along for the ride.  Instead of day-to-day comments, I’m going to post something from my personal journal to share.  Hope you enjoy.  Remember all of us go down this path and we are all in it together ❤

Week of 03/04-03/10/2018 – Week 9

“Dear Journal – Stress should be one of those dirty words that we don’t mention.  Stress is ugly and mean.  Stress is butting into my life lately.  The I can’t sleep, I’m running 90 miles per minute in every direction and feel the world is catching up with me kind of stress.  I need to take six classes for work for updating my accounting skills.  Something added in to a 24 hour day that now needs 36 hours just to get everything done.  As of today, five classes down – one more to fit in this week.  The month is getting away from me as well.  I just rolled February at work and now we are halfway through March and I haven’t started March.  I need two of me I think for work.  Mom is going to the pulmonary specialist today to see how bad her COPD is… shaking my head.  Just add to the stress – parents need to live forever.  I’m not ready for anything of that nature.  Enough of my downs – let’s talk ups.  I have maintained my surgery weight – that’s awesome and a positive note.  I am trying to walk when I can in between flare-ups.  Flare-ups is also another bad word but right now I’ve got them beat.  I’m staying on top of them.  And I’m eating better.  Hey – the good with the bad huh?”

This week walked:  6.48

TOTAL 2018 Miles:  75.14

TOTAL 2017 Miles:  541.06

Look my friends – one day last week I used the air fryer to make boneless buffalo chicken nuggets.  They came out amazing!  The hub unit could not get enough of them.  They were seasoned and breaded just right.  See how crispy they look.  And trust me, they tasted just as crispy – had the perfect crunch.  I didn’t take a picture of them but I also fixed tater tots.  They probably could have went a few minutes more but they were awesome!!

We Need Your Help Friends

My sister, Tina Mote, will be running in the 2018 Bank of America Chicago Marathon in Chicago, Illinois on Sunday, October 7, 2018.

For this marathon, Tina decided to raise money for something that is close and dear to her heart – The Arthritis Foundation. Unfortunately myself and another close friend have rheumatoid arthritis.  Tina decided to run the marathon in our honor in support of raising money for a great cause.  In fact, below is a note of why she picked the Arthritis Foundation:

“Both my sister and my close friend have rheumatoid arthritis (RA) and through them I have become passionate about wanting to do something to contribute towards a cure or better ways to treat RA.  In addition, I’d like to bring awareness to RA and the herculean effort people afflicted with RA have to go through on a daily basis.

I’ve seen both my sister and my friend deal with flare-ups and with medicine side effects and I’ve seen them be immune compromised.  My friend, who is only in her early 30s, is currently having to fight through some really tough side effects of Rituxan (a chemo treatment for RA); she’s undergoing this treatment because other medicines have not been effective for controlling her RA.  The side effects at times have been life threatening.”

The following passage is from my friend’s blog.  It speaks volumes to what she has to endure.

“Had a good learning experience today, for the first time something was blamed on me because of my ‘being sick.’ I realized that when someone can use the smallest thing against you (and being sick is no small thing) then you have entered into a world where you feel like you have to be ‘Great,’ ‘Doing good’ all time because if you don’t….someone will say ‘blank didn’t happen because YOU were ‘sick’.’

I’ll say I expect better, the world needs to understand the world of those people who are chronically ill! Why should we have to live a lie? Why should we push ourselves so hard to earn an Oscar every day for our performance? Why can’t we be honest about how we feel? Why?

….because that will be the weapon someone will use against us. And so we can’t, so instead we lie, we push ourselves, we never show the tears of pain and fatigue…..instead we make ourselves smile, laugh, and act like we are normal….because if we didn’t someone will say ‘because you are sick’.

This is where we need your help.  I’ve never asked for much here at the Hotel Thompson but if you have anything to give, we would so appreciate anything that you could donate towards my sisters marathon.  Her goal is to raise $2,000.00 and every little penny counts.  If you would like to donate, please go donate here.  This should be the page link for Tina Mote for the Bank of America Chicago Marathon.  Let her know that Bacon sent you.

Remember, every little penny counts so we appreciate anything you can donate.

Hell Froze Over

Yep, you heard me right.  Hell froze over.  Why do you ask?  Well, we got snow in the south.  Shocker huh?!  We never get snow and twice this year we’ve had it.  The first time back in December 2017.  It wasn’t much.  Hardly anything to write about.  It was more of an inconvenience than anything else.  Then early this week they said we would be getting snow.  Of course, here in the south we laughed.  I mean really think about living in the south.  If we see a single snowflake, we shut down.  Honestly we do.  We are not equipped for snow and we don’t know how to drive in that kind of weather.

So Tuesday night, mom got a text stating work would be delayed Wednesday for two hours – report in at 10AM.  No problems.  Mom woke up Wednesday morning and squealed for joy.  I heard her.  It scared me.  Do you remember when you were in school and you thought you might be having a snow day and you were so excited?  Mom was exactly that for some reason.  She had not even left the bed and she said it snowed.  How did she know?  Is she psychic?  Mom said she could tell because everything was so bright inside of the Hotel Thompson.  I don’t know what she was talking about.  We all stumbled to the front door.  She opened the door and we were in awe.  Look at all of that snow!  We were all mystified.

Mom then got a text saying work was called out for non-essential personnel.  Mom actually jumped for joy.  It’s strange seeing her do that.  Really it is.  Mom then went to the back door and opened it up for all of us.  She told us we could go out and play in the snow.  Shaking my head.  Mom do you not know us at all?  Houdini yawned and left to go back to bed first following by me.  Trust me.  I do not want snow or cold stuff rubbing against my pot belly.  I’ll pass.  What was mom thinking?

Then this morning she was again delayed two hours.  But when she left for work, there was icicles going across the front of the Hotel Thompson.  Do you see them?  And mom called us when she got to work.  What usually takes less than 15 minutes took mom 45 minutes this morning.  The roads were still icy and full of snow.  Mom said there was also some – what did she call them? – IDIOTS driving on the roads going fast like there was no tomorrow.  Weirdos.
