Travels in the South

Hello my sweet friends.  Have I got a treat for you!  You’ve been told that we had guests this past week – and trust me – it was a LOT of fun for sure.  Just like sharing my Travels to Israel with you last month, now we will be doing an edition of Travels in the South with our friends.  Yep, nods head, mom/dad did that much with our friends.

Okay you are saying, “Fine pig, who visited then?”  Well, you have to wait no more.  Do you know Shoko and Kali from Canadian Cats?  Well their mom/dad (Jean and Bill) visited Atlanta and my mom/dad got to play with them – snorts with piggy laughter.  And I will tell you one thing my friends.  I’ve seen some of their pictures on the ‘cloud’.  All I have to say is OMP!  It was a hoot!

So they got here late Wednesday 2/17/2016.  My mom had a ‘friend’ pick them up special from the airport.  Snorts – you’ll have to read about that from Jean and Bill cause it was a special pick up indeed.  The friend brought Jean and Bill to mom’s office where mom gave them a quick tour of the facility before taking them to check in at their hotel.  Afterwards, mom went home and got dad so they could go out for dinner (one of many fun times).

They decided to go to a local restaurant called Red Lobster.  Knowing that Jean and Bill had been traveling all day, mom wanted to make sure they were well fed so they could get some sleep.

Jean and Bill both got Garlic Grilled Shrimp which were huge (you can see some in the picture).  Although, as a side dish Bill got Bourbon Pecan Sweet Potatoes – you know something of the south which we love here.

Jean got the side dish of Creamy Langostino Lobster Mashed Potatoes which also happens to be one of mom’s favorites.  They were delicious but we didn’t take a picture – can you imagine that?  It was creamy mashed potatoes topped with lobster pieces and mom said she thought she heard angels sing when they were delivered to the table cause they are that good – snorts.

One thing that mom/dad said that Jean and Bill *had* to try was lobster pizza as an appetizer.  And mom just happened to have a coupon for one – go mom.  Now, it is something that you have to wrap your mind around but once you do – OMP – they say it is wonderful… not that I would know because none of it has ever made its way to me.  Just sayin’.

It comes out on a thin crust and it’s hot from the oven.  You kind of have to give it a moment to set up before getting a slice.  If not, it just goo’s all over the place.  What did Bill and Jean think of the lobster pizza?

Well I think it was a winner from looking at this picture.  What do you think?

And don’t worry – Jean found something else that she had never tried before – Lobster Bisque.  Jean and daddy had a bowl and there were pieces of Langostino lobster in the soup as well.

Daddy said that he had never seen so much lobster in the bowl before. Maybe that was because mom/dad had their favorite waitress Lexus waiting on them?  Who knows – it was delicious!

Now join us next week to find out what everyone did the next day of their visit – you definitely don’t want to miss it!

Food Porn – To Twist or Not To Twist That is the Question

Here in this picture we see shrimp pasta – does’t it look delicious?  This comes from one of mom/dad’s favorite restaurants called Red Lobster.  They just love their shrimp pasta.  They were sharing this dish and I was looking at it when it dawned on me about something.  Look closely at the picture and kind of lean your head to the left.  You see there are two forks.  Now let’s talk about techniques in the eating of pasta shall we.  I’ve learned that this is a treacherous position to take with some folks but I’m up for the piggy challenge.  Are you?

Now, personally, I would just chomp that fine looking shrimp pasta all down without coming up for air.  It looks great to me.  But humans, they use forks and manners which dad reminds me of often that I don’t have.  Hmmpphh – so says the man who burps the alphabet huh?

Dad believes in the fork straight down and twist to get all pasta in one giant happy scoop.  Mom is not a twist kind of person.  She believes in ‘cutting’ the pasta and then scooping it up to her awaiting mouth.  Why does she do this?  She says because as a child her dad would play tic-tac-toe with her on spaghetti night.  Come again mom?  Have you been drinking the vodka today already?

Really, she says that spaghetti night was hard for a kid to learn the twist thing.  So her dad would make a tic-tac-toe chart on her plate breaking up the spaghetti and ‘cutting’ it into the pattern.  He would then challenge her to the game and eating it.  Thus, this is why she cuts it.  Does that make sense?  A nearly fifty something still playing with her food.  And mom/dad fuss at me for playing with mine.  Some things are just not fair.

So the question is my friends – to twist or not to twist.

Bashful Out and About

Oh friends – here’s another adventure that my little tyke Bashful had while he was home here at the Hotel Thompson in the past couple of weeks. We had quite a few people call and ask to go out with Bashful while he was home – we had a schedule of events – this is one of them.

Some friends wanted to meet at our local Red Lobster restaurant for a meet and greet.  When we finally got seated, our table section had a blue light over it and mom *had* to take a picture.

Daddy said that it should be fine as long as it wasn’t in a ‘red light’ district.  Shaking piggy head.  I didn’t get that joke but apparently mom did and she snorted.  I wonder where she gets that from?

So everyone huddled around our table looking at and discussing the menu options.  Of course, Bashful was right there in the middle of it all putting in his two cents of what he wanted to eat – you might as well just ordered one of everything – snorts.

Bashful was really excited about going to Red Lobster.  He told me that he has fallen in love with seafood of any kind… a long with all kinds of other food.  What can I say?  The little bloke likes to eat.  I wonder where he gets that from?  Shakes head wondering.

Well, don’t you know the first thing Bashful did was jump on one of Red Lobster’s famous cheesy garlic biscuits.  They were hot and straight from the oven.  Mom told him to blow on it first because she didn’t want him burning his tongue.  Bashful told mom that some of his ancestors can withstand heat so he was fine jumping right in the biscuit and eating his way out.

Then daddy had ordered some Clam Chowder.  And guess who had to take a chunky dunk into it to eat his way out?  Yep, shaking head.  You guessed it – Bashful.  I tell you for a small tyke, that rock can eat!  He said it was delicious.  Dad said he thought it was good but the only thing he got to taste was one single potato.  Thanks Bashful for sharing – snorts with piggy laughter.

Then, it was time to order the main entrees.  Now during this time at Red Lobster, they had their shrimp special taking place – it was all you can eat Shrimp.  One of mom/dad’s favorite times of the year for this particular restaurant.  Mommy couldn’t wait to taste her food.  She ordered succulent Shrimp Scampi – look at the size of those shrimp, fried shrimp and french fries well done.

Doesn’t that plate look awesome?  I have to admit it.  I licked mom’s iPhone when I saw the picture.  And I also have to admit that Bashful, of course, jumped right on mom’s plate and started gobbling like he had never eaten before.  I tell you my friends.  If I ate like that little guy, this little oinker would be 400 pounds!  But thank goodness it was all you can eat so mom could get some more since Bashful ate it all.  And hey you know what?  They brought me home a piggy bag – happy dance – shake your butt – happy dance.  Hope you enjoyed this little adventure with my guy.
