Boo! La Pascualita

Oh my friends.  This tale today is scary unbelievable. It makes you want to do a double take… and possibly a triple take.  But, I’m getting ahead of myself.  You see working on my 31 Days of Spook takes month of advance preparation.  All year long, I’m looking for just the right stories to bring to you.  Stories of the macabre, ghosts, strange tales, paranormal and things that go bump in the night.  But this story, it caught my attention and I’ve been waiting for some time to share it.

This is something that is strange.  It takes place in Chihuahua, Mexico.  There’s a well known bridal shop in the town called La Popular.  In the bridal shop, there is a mannequin nicknamed La Pascualita that is wearing a wedding dress in the store window.  Sounds all innocent enough, right?  Well here’s the twist.  Some say that La Pascualita might be real.  Do I have your interest piqued now?

You see, for the past 75 years this bridal shop has had rumors flying around about La Pascualita.  Some believe that this mannequin is actually a perfectly preserved corpse!

La Pascualita was placed in the window on March 25, 1930.  Locals saw it and knew that something just wasn’t right about it.  Look at the pictures to the left.  Do you know notice anything odd?

According to the legend, La Popular’s owner Pascuala Esparza had a daughter. His daughter tragically passed away on her wedding day from the bite of a black widow spider.  Some believe that Esparza had his daughter embalmed and that she is now the famous La Pascualita in the shop window.  Of course Esparza has denied such rumors.

Funny thing though – if La Pascualita isn’t Esparza’s daughter why all the secrecy.  What secrecy you ask?  Well, of all of the employees of the shop there are only two that are allowed to change her clothing and that is only behind a closed door.

Other employees of the shop so that La Pascualita’s hands are very realistic and some say you can even see wrinkles and varicose veins on her legs.  Other employees say they come into the shop in the early mornings only to see that La Pascualita has changed positions on her own.  And then there are other employees that say La Pascualita ‘watches’ them during the day.

You be the judge.  What do you think?

Travels in the South

Everyone should have that one great Mexican restaurant that they always have on their ‘go to’ list when nothing else sounds good for dinner.  You know what I mean.  There is always the constant, “Where do you want to eat”, conversation going on here at the Hotel Thompson.  It’s daily and it always ends with, “It doesn’t matter.  Whatever you want.”  I piggy swear that sometimes they need to write all of the local restaurants down on pieces of paper, fold them and put them in a box.  When these nights come up about where do you want to eat, randomly pick a piece of paper out of said box – problem solved.

This was one of those nights where mom/dad just automatically skipped the conversation and went straight to their stand by of Mexican food.  It’s a no brainer.  They don’t even have to decide what to order because they always get the same thing and split the meal.  What is it you ask?

This wonderful meal is called Tacos De Alambre.  It’s made with flour tortillas, grilled steak, onions and bell peppers.  Mom also gets her Tacos De Alambre topped with Chihuahua cheese.  This is a great Mexican melty yummy cheese.  Can you say delicious?

Noises at Night

As I lay in bed at night sleeping, I have to think about the different sounds I hear coming from outside my bedroom window.  Now that we are in the Summer months, it seems like everything is coming alive, especially at night.  So there I was last night, tucked in and waiting for Mr. Sandman to visit.  I listened intently.

I could hear grasshoppers.  One I’ve nicknamed Sensei because he is so very loud and seems to hang out right near my window to the right every single night.  It’s like he tells me goodnight.

I could hear kids laughing and yelling.  Heck it’s almost 9pm – why are there kids still outside playing in the dark?  They better be chasing lightening bugs and not chasing trouble.

I could hear the faint sounds of a radio from the people next door.  Those neighbors are Asian so the music had a chime-chime affluence.  It was soothing to me.

I could hear dogs barking – it must be that pesky little Chihuahua across the street hanging out with his posse and being bad again leaving nuggets on everyone’s front yard.

I could hear frogs.  They sounded like enormous frogs with giant legs and deep guts.  There are LOADS of them in my magical backyard due to the creek that runs behind it.

Then the most deep sound of them all started.  It’s enough to shake our little house and it comforts me enough to rock me to sleep.  What is it you ask?  Of course, its dad snoring. ❤

What sounds do you hear at night when you are trying to go to sleep?

Spotlight Thursday – Meet Dixie Lullabelle Poplin

Spotlight Thursday

Welcome my friends to SPOTLIGHT THURSDAY.  This is the time that I will introduce you to one of my fellow anipals so you can get to know them better.  Some of them, you may already know.  We hope that you enjoy this new series!

Name:  Dixie Lullabelle Poplin

Age:  10 years

Location:   Deliverance, NC

Web/Blog Page:  You can find me on Facebook.  (My friends, Dixie will be checking in throughout the day for comments/messages.  Please welcome Dixie to the blogville world.)

What were your first thoughts when you met your new parents?  Originally, I thought, WTF, but then I realized that the Daddy always makes sure that everyone in the home is well-fed. The Mama provides very warm armpits in the middle of the night. She refers to it as something called hot flashes, but I call it Chihuahua heaven!

What was the defining moment when you knew you were in your forever home?  When I built a puppy Stonehenge under the bed with doggie poop and they didn’t take me to the pound.

What has been your biggest “Oh no, now I’ve done it” moment so far in your home?   Refer to the question/answer above

Who do you have wrapped around your paws more – mom or dad – and why?  My daddy. He has a high tolerance for most things, and loves to feed me whatever he’s eating. The Mama, however, runs a tight ship, which includes outside pee breaks, regardless of rain, sleet, snow or bitter cold. Sometimes I even pee little ice driblets.

What’s the biggest misconception that humans think about you? My personal humans know that I’m actually a super-hero. Outsiders mistake my irreverence for ignorance. They shall be taken care of hastily.

Hope you enjoyed meeting my friend Dixie – check back next week for another Spotlight edition!

Favorite Super Bowl 2014 Commercial

Before we go ahead with *the* Super Bowl, let’s talk about the Puppy Bowl.  What a game!  Awesome half time with Keyboard Kitty.  Awesome penguin cheerleaders.  BOTH teams came to play – snorts – unlike *the* Super Bowl.  And I loved the part where it showed the forever homes for the previous game players.  Excellent Puppy Bowl X.

Now about the Super Bowl.  The Super Bowl last night was the Seahawks vs Broncos.  Let’s not talk about the game.  Puts my little piggy head down in disgust.  I was rooting for the Broncos.  It’s like they didn’t even show up!

Since the game was over before it started – snorts, I concentrated on the commercials and the half time show.  Let’s talk about the half time show first.  It rocked.  I love me some Bruno Mars.  The Red Hot Chili Peppers not so much.  Maybe it was the one song they played – shrugs pig shoulders – not sure.  But Bruno kicked it – literally.  That guy has some foot movement!  It was great – probably one of the best I’ve seen in my 2.5 years – snorts.

Now, the commercials.  There were lots of commercials to review.  Some I absolutely loved and some I hated with a piggy passion.  My top were (in no particular order):

Ellen Degeneres playing Little Red Riding Hood.  Did you see the piggies in the commercial? Squeal!  You just know when she gets to condo with the bears they are going to huff and puff and blow her down – oops wrong Fairy Tale – snorts.

Then Pappa Bear says, “Play it” and they all break out dancing.  That was a hoot.  We all laughed at this one at the Hotel Thompson.

.

Then there was the Audi commercial about ‘no compromises’ where two people are at the adoption agency. One wants a Doberman and the other wants a Chihuahua thus they compromise on a mixture of the two.  Thus you get the Doberhuaha.

I have to admit that we laughed at the Doberhuaha.  It reminded me of Scrappy from Scooby Doo.  You see it now?  Snorts.

.

The VW commercial.  OMP (oh my pig).  Snorts.  It’s hard for me to even type this because I’m snorting so hard.  VW turns 100,000 miles and when it does the people that make the cars get their ‘wings’.  That’s what the dad tells his daughter in the car.  The daughter is like yeah right and says, “And I guess at 200,000 miles they fart the rainbow?”  AND it starts to show them farting rainbows.  Okay maybe I don’t have it verbatim but it was hilarious!  I looked at daddy and said, “How much mileage you got old man?”  Snorts

.

My favorite commercial the entire night at the Hotel Thompson was for the new Butterfinger Peanut Butter cups – which might I add are AWESOME!  Peanut butter and Chocolate are in therapy and Butterfinger shows up to the couch.

This commercial is freaking hilarious.  You have to watch it – it’s so funny.  And the new Butterfinger Peanut Butter cups – thud – mom/dad down.  They tried one and they LOVE IT.  Mom gave me a small taste and I do mean small.  It’s like a peanut butter cup BUT the filling is butterfinger.  It’s the perfect combination.

So what was your favorite commercial from last night?  Thoughts on those or the game of the Puppy Bowl?
