Oh friends – I have a good one for you today. But for some reason, mom says I can’t be part of it. She wants to talk about it. So without further ado – take it away mom ❤
Thanks Bacon. Friends, for obvious reasons in the pictures below you can tell why I didn’t want Bacon here today. No oinker should be around alcoholic beverages – LOL. No really there is b.a.c.o.n. involved in this posting and I didn’t want the little guy to get his feelings hurt. Carrying on with our Chicago, Illinois trip several months ago, I wanted to share a breakfast place that we went to for some fabulous food. There is a restaurant close to my sister called Richard Walker’s Pancake House. If you are near one, RUN to it. They have the most fab food ever.
Of course every good breakfast needs to start with a solid drink. Today was no exception. We are on vacation and vacation knows no time. My sister started with a Blood Mary with a slice of bacon. THUD! To say this restaurant has fabulous bacon is an understatement! Mix that bacon with vodka and you have a party starting up right there and then. I started with a Mimosa… gotta keep that orange juice flowing, right? And of course the hub was the designated driver – snorts – so he had a Coke Zero straight up.

The muffin you see in the picture – that is a carrot cake muffin. Gobble nom nom. It was delicious! We cut it all up and shared it together. All it was missing was some cream cheese icing on top of it.

What we ate for entrees:
My sister went for the pancake looking picture. That’s actually potato pancakes that was made from Idaho potatoes with a tad of fresh onion and served with applesauce and sour cream. Now, before you go eeww, you have to try it before you knock it. I was like yeah okay until I was personally hand fed a bite with sour cream. Now I can’t get them out of my mind and want some…daily! So yes upon our return trip to Chicago, this place is on the list for some potato pancakes.
I went boring style with scrambled eggs with cheese and bacon. Okay the bacon wasn’t boring. It was the most delicious bacon I’ve ever tasted here in the states and that’s saying a lot.
The hub unit went for the Classic Eggs Benedict. Underneath that sinful hollandaise sauce was canadian bacon and poached eggs. He made more grunting noises eating that meal than certain people make on certain television shows. That’s all we are going to say about that – HAHAHAH
So I gotta ask – what was your favorite meal/picture?

Today has been an important date all around – especially here at the Hotel Thompson! You do realize what a huge fanatic my mom is about the mouse that wears the white gloves? I mean, it’s bad enough that there are Mickey Mouse shapes across the facial boards of the Hotel Thompson… let alone the mouse is somehow someway in every room… and mom even has a tattoo of the fellow – shocker huh? I think you can say that she’s serious about Mickey.
Can you believe that November 18, 1928, Mickey Mouse made his debut into entertainment. He wasn’t originally known as Mickey Mouse. Did you know that? His first mark into history came in Steamboat Willie as Mortimer Mouse. They changed his name shortly thereafter – good thing too, huh?
In 1929, they came out with a short called The Opry House. This is when the mouse got his famous white gloves for his outfit.

And, did you know that Walt Disney himself did the voice of Mickey Mouse up until 1946?
And, the most important thing I found that I *know* mom is going to have a fit about.. there’s actually a Mickey Mouse cocktail. It’s made with tomato juice, lemon juice, Worcestershire sauce, Tabasco and a lime wedge. I guess it could be a grown up version by adding Vodka.
So, let’s all wish mom’s little idol a Happy Birthday!!

Oh piggy heavens above! Oh my friends. I hate to be the one to tell you this but there is a deadly virus going around these parts. You need to protect yourself STAT! It’s awful and can hit you at any time.
In fact, the virus is called Weekly Overload Recreational Killer (WORK). If you come in contact with the WORK virus, you should immediately go to the nearest Biological Anxiety Relief (BAR) center to take antidotes known as Working Isolating Neutralizer Extract (WINE), Radioactive UnWORK Medicine (RUM), Bothersome Employer Elimination Rebooter (BEER) or Vaccine Official Depression Killing Agent (VODKA).
Don’t be a victim my friends – take action NOW!

Let’s Take A Quiz – Since mom loves the mouse so much, I’m going to give you three statements. Tell me if each one is true or false – how many can you get right about mom and her beloved mouse?
(1) Mom has a tattoo of Mickey Mouse on her body.
(2) Mom’s family name is Mortimer.
(3) Someone close to mom was born the same year Mickey Mouse was in 1928.

Here in this picture we see shrimp pasta – does’t it look delicious? This comes from one of mom/dad’s favorite restaurants called Red Lobster. They just love their shrimp pasta. They were sharing this dish and I was looking at it when it dawned on me about something. Look closely at the picture and kind of lean your head to the left. You see there are two forks. Now let’s talk about techniques in the eating of pasta shall we. I’ve learned that this is a treacherous position to take with some folks but I’m up for the piggy challenge. Are you?
Now, personally, I would just chomp that fine looking shrimp pasta all down without coming up for air. It looks great to me. But humans, they use forks and manners which dad reminds me of often that I don’t have. Hmmpphh – so says the man who burps the alphabet huh?

Dad believes in the fork straight down and twist to get all pasta in one giant happy scoop. Mom is not a twist kind of person. She believes in ‘cutting’ the pasta and then scooping it up to her awaiting mouth. Why does she do this? She says because as a child her dad would play tic-tac-toe with her on spaghetti night. Come again mom? Have you been drinking the vodka today already?
Really, she says that spaghetti night was hard for a kid to learn the twist thing. So her dad would make a tic-tac-toe chart on her plate breaking up the spaghetti and ‘cutting’ it into the pattern. He would then challenge her to the game and eating it. Thus, this is why she cuts it. Does that make sense? A nearly fifty something still playing with her food. And mom/dad fuss at me for playing with mine. Some things are just not fair.
So the question is my friends – to twist or not to twist.
