Snorts with piggy laughter! My mom and dad they are *always* getting into some type of trouble somewhere doing something. They went to a local bar and grill and picked up these matchsticks. Mom didn’t think anything of them when she put them on the counter. I walked over to investigate because it’s what I do. It was something new in the house and frankly I’ve never seen this thing called matchsticks before.
So I picked the pack up with my mouth and read the package. Oh my piggy heavens. Where do my parents go and hang out without me?
We at the Hotel Thompson have been advised that Madi at http://downhomeinnc.blogspot.com/ is hosting a Spring Fling today, March 20, 2014. It’s all about love in the air today on this first day of Spring. I got with mom and dad and asked them to tell me the story again about them. It’s one of my favorite bedtime stories that mom tells me at night when she tucks me into bed.
It all started back in 1988. Mom went for an interview at a local company to work for all things an answering service – can you believe that?! There she met this wonderful office manager who hired her on the spot. Mom started work as a telephone operator and within a few short months, she moved up to the billing department.
Mom became close friends with the office manager. Who knew that from the beginning of their meeting, the office manager had plans for my mom. The office manager set her son up (my daddy) with mommy. They went on their first date September 14, 1988 (which happened to be the day before the office manager’s birthday – cool huh?).
That first date started it all for my mommy and daddy. And here’s the kicker. They dated for 16 years before getting married. Can you believe that? At times, mom was ready to get married but dad wasn’t. Then there were times that dad was ready to get married but mom wasn’t. Then there were times that neither wanted to get married – snorts.
But finally on Valentine’s Day, February 14, 2004, dad popped the question to mom. Mom’s answer was priceless, “What’s the rush?! Give me another 16 years and I’ll give you the answer.” Yep, that’s my mommy. She did accept though.
Then, things turned a really rough curve. Dad was involved in a car accident in March 2004. He ended up in ICU at the hospital for almost three months. It was a most horrible time for mom and dad. Thankfully, mom knew dads doctors and they allowed mommy to be with daddy a lot during these times. Daddy almost died three times during these long three months. But in the end, he turned and started to get better.
So during the last week of his time in ICU when he was feeling better, mom got with the family doctor that was involved in dad’s care. The doctor and staff at the hospital watched as mommy did the most amazing thing. She got on her knee in daddy’s room and proposed to daddy – aaww. She said that she didn’t want to wait any longer, she wanted to marry my daddy as soon as she could. He accepted.
He came out of the hospital the beginning of July 2004. This is when he actually moved in with mommy. His house had too many steps and he needed care. Mommy took care of him, got him through rehabilitation and doctor’s appointments. And in the middle of all of this, they put together their wedding. And it was easy setting a date. Over the years, daddy’s mom had passed away. Remember her birthday was September 15, the day before mom and dad’s first date. So it was set. September 15, 2004.
Mom got a beautiful dress. Dad got a handsome tux. Invitations were sent out to sixty of their closest friends. Daddy’s dad, an ordained minister, performed the wedding. And when they were married, they had been dating 16 years. This year, September 14, 2014 will marked their 10th wedding anniversary or what they like to say – 26 years together.
What? We were playing really hard outdoors. My friend Tinker got tired. I thought I would carry him back indoors to his mommy. I wasn’t hurting him or anything – honestly. We are just good buds. Signed Friendly Coon
Dear Friendly Coon, aaww – Isn’t that very nice of you. I bet ya’ll have a great friendship. Tinker must love and trust you so very much. It’s nice to see that kind of friendship these days.
.
Dear Bacon, Have you ever just stopped and had a great time? Sometimes life is just way too complicated. Every once in a while, we just need to stop and pounce in the leaves to let go of a little steam. It’s great therapy. Have you ever played with the leaves and let go of a little steam? Signed Pug Happy
Dear Pug Happy, OMP (Oh my pig!) You look so happy there jumping in the leaves and letting go of your ‘steam’. I have played outside in the leaves once or twice. Now that I think of it, it was a great way to have fun and let loose a bit. I did have a great time playing with mom. You are right – carry on my friend and have a wonderful time!
.
Dear Bacon,
How humilating. My human not only took this picture but pinned it on Tumblr. Good grief. Will this humiliation ever end? Trust me, I’m two steps from going hostile back there with my human daddy. It may not look like it to you, but inside I’m steaming up like a volcano. Signed Dash
Dear Dash, You know I like to look at the bright side of problems my friend. For instance, look at you – you don’t have to walk when you can be carried. 🙂 No, not buying that one huh? Okay, think of the brighter picture. Instead of pinning it on Tumblr, your human mom could have made Christmas cards out of that picture. 🙂 You gotta see the good in that, right? I say go for it and think positive. It could always be worse – really it could.
.
Dear Bacon,
I’m not really eating my dad. I’m waiting for him to give me some positive reinforcement. You don’t believe me? You see, I watched a special documentary on National Geographic this past weekend. Lion fathers let their children do this to them and in return the dads scream like they are being hurt. This teaches the young on what to do. I was just testing this theory. I guess it doesn’t work on pooches. You think? Signed Toughie
Dear Toughie,
No my friend. I don’t think it works on your kind. But you know what? I think you look so cute and adorable. Really I do 🙂
.
Dear Bacon, I.am.so.done with this weather. I live in Georgia for Pete’s sake. It’s not suppose to snow here. And this year, it seems like Mother Nature is trying to make up for it. I’m so ready to hit the water and do what I do best – bask in the sun and fish. Are you with me? Signed Captain Sulley
Dear Captain Sulley, Snorts. I know you in real life my friend. I’m game for ‘basking in the sun’ anytime you and your family go out. I’m just …. tapping my hoof… waiting for my invitation. And of course by invitation I mean to bask in the sun not for the main meal – snorts. Carry on my friend and have fun!!

Remember my friends – keep your letters and pictures coming. Send them to me at Baconthompson@gmail.com
Before we go ahead with *the* Super Bowl, let’s talk about the Puppy Bowl. What a game! Awesome half time with Keyboard Kitty. Awesome penguin cheerleaders. BOTH teams came to play – snorts – unlike *the* Super Bowl. And I loved the part where it showed the forever homes for the previous game players. Excellent Puppy Bowl X.
Now about the Super Bowl. The Super Bowl last night was the Seahawks vs Broncos. Let’s not talk about the game. Puts my little piggy head down in disgust. I was rooting for the Broncos. It’s like they didn’t even show up!
Since the game was over before it started – snorts, I concentrated on the commercials and the half time show. Let’s talk about the half time show first. It rocked. I love me some Bruno Mars. The Red Hot Chili Peppers not so much. Maybe it was the one song they played – shrugs pig shoulders – not sure. But Bruno kicked it – literally. That guy has some foot movement! It was great – probably one of the best I’ve seen in my 2.5 years – snorts.
Now, the commercials. There were lots of commercials to review. Some I absolutely loved and some I hated with a piggy passion. My top were (in no particular order):
Ellen Degeneres playing Little Red Riding Hood. Did you see the piggies in the commercial? Squeal! You just know when she gets to condo with the bears they are going to huff and puff and blow her down – oops wrong Fairy Tale – snorts.
Then Pappa Bear says, “Play it” and they all break out dancing. That was a hoot. We all laughed at this one at the Hotel Thompson.
.
Then there was the Audi commercial about ‘no compromises’ where two people are at the adoption agency. One wants a Doberman and the other wants a Chihuahua thus they compromise on a mixture of the two. Thus you get the Doberhuaha.
I have to admit that we laughed at the Doberhuaha. It reminded me of Scrappy from Scooby Doo. You see it now? Snorts.
.
The VW commercial. OMP (oh my pig). Snorts. It’s hard for me to even type this because I’m snorting so hard. VW turns 100,000 miles and when it does the people that make the cars get their ‘wings’. That’s what the dad tells his daughter in the car. The daughter is like yeah right and says, “And I guess at 200,000 miles they fart the rainbow?” AND it starts to show them farting rainbows. Okay maybe I don’t have it verbatim but it was hilarious! I looked at daddy and said, “How much mileage you got old man?” Snorts
.
My favorite commercial the entire night at the Hotel Thompson was for the new Butterfinger Peanut Butter cups – which might I add are AWESOME! Peanut butter and Chocolate are in therapy and Butterfinger shows up to the couch.
This commercial is freaking hilarious. You have to watch it – it’s so funny. And the new Butterfinger Peanut Butter cups – thud – mom/dad down. They tried one and they LOVE IT. Mom gave me a small taste and I do mean small. It’s like a peanut butter cup BUT the filling is butterfinger. It’s the perfect combination.
So what was your favorite commercial from last night? Thoughts on those or the game of the Puppy Bowl?
It’s been a long battle with my piggy therapy. I’ve cried. I’ve shared my deepest feelings. I’ve laughed. But at last, my therapy is over. I’m not going to lie. It was hard – really HARD – coming to grips with my anti-nature status.
See, I’ve never really been ‘outside’. What you’ve never done, you are afraid of doing. I was a runt so my caretakers at that time took me inside of their home and bottle fed me. I stayed with them until the time my mommy adopted me at three weeks. And of course, I was too small to roam the great outdoors at that time – I weighed only ONE pound. Hard to believe huh?
So therapy involved baby steps. First going to the back door. I knew something was on the other side of the door – I could smell nature. Then, the door got opened and it was just me and nature with nothing in between. I could watch Journalist Rocky the Squirrel playing in the back yard with all of his family. I could see the rabbit family playing and eating. I could hear the birds singing their songs. This took several weeks to overcome knowing there was nothing between us but air.
Then, mommy persuaded me onto the deck – of course with food. Darn this belly!
Then, it was the final step into nature and the grass. So, I pigged up and took the step.
It wasn’t easy. The grass felt weird under my hooves. The smells of nature was overwhelming. The grass had just been cut and had a strong smell. But I continued to pig up and venture around the back yard of the Hotel Thompson. It really wasn’t that bad… but it wasn’t that great either. None of the stuff in the yard was familiar to this little oinker. My television, my air conditioner and my toddler bed were no where to be seen!
But I ventured on until it hit me. I *had* to go potty. I looked up at mom with this fear in my eyes. My tail was shaking. She knew what I needed to do. She told me to go ahead. What? Outside? Really? So I got in position – legs stretched out, tail straight up and whizzed… right there in the back yard for God and everyone to see. WOW – What a feeling of exhilaration. Mom praised me and laughed – I think I might have actually smiled back at her.
I admit it – it is really an experience outside. Do I want to do it again? Can’t really say right now. I’ve done it. I can now cross this off of my bucket list. I have stepped out and into nature.
Everyone should know that I’ve been in piggy therapy for my anti-nature problems. It is definitely a work in progress. Therapy is not just for the humans. It’s for animals as well. I’ve been doing a lot of soul searching.
The topic came up this past weekend and daddy doesn’t think I will ever make it outside. Mommy on the other hand is not giving up on this little oinker. What say you?
Come on my loyal friends. Who do you think will be right? What do you have to say in this matter? – XOXO Bacon
Just to keep everyone updated on my life – I have been attending piggy therapy. I’ve cried a lot. I’ve laughed a lot. I’ve learned a lot. Therapy is not just for the humans.
I’ve talked a lot about some issues… you know me and nature. I’ve come to realize that it goes deep to when I was a runt baby. I’ve never experienced the ‘great outdoors’ and that scares me. It’s a huge place out there, right. Lot’s of crawly things, nature and grass. Shivers – it’s frightening for this little pig. But, I’m working through these issues. I know you will be glad to hear that. Maybe one day… in the near future… I will attempt to place my little pig hooves in the green grass outside and commence with nature. Hold on for a minute – let me take a piggy xanax to relax.
It’s a work in progress. I’ve made some baby steps. I can actually look outside into nature with the door being open. I can feel the air and wind surrounding my little piggy body and I don’t flip out. I can hear the frogs, the crickets and birds chirping and I’m good. I watch the rabbits and squirrels with nothing in between us but air and I’m fine. Of course, all of this is from the safety of my the threshold of the back door. Again, it’s a work in progress. You don’t know how much convincing mommy had to do just to get me to the opened door 🙂 I’ll keep you posted my friends
Miniature pot bellied pig and friends - Bacon, Houdini, Hemi and all of the Rock Clan with Journalist Rocky the Squirrel all out looking for adventures from the Hotel Thompson.
