What week would be complete without a birthday cake picture? Mom/dad went to a local italian restaurant last week for mom’s birthday. This is a piece of wonderful cake mom got at the end of her meal. It’s called the Black Tie Mousse Cake. It has rich layers of chocolate cake, chocolate cheesecake and a creamy melt in your mouth mousse. Did mom enjoy it. YES. It was just enjoy to enjoy and share with daddy.

Travels in the South
Last November, mom/dad traveled to Chicago, Illinois. Or should I say, mom planned a trip and told dad absolutely nothing about it until the car came and picked them up at the Hotel Thompson the morning of departure. Mom had already packed everything for their adventure. Why Chicago? Well first up, my Aunt Tina lives there with my cousin Sherlock Bones. Second up, daddy has *always* wanted to go to Ditka’s Chicago. Are you asking yourself what is that? Well Mike Ditka is a former football player, was an awesome coach and a television commentator. He coached the Chicago Bears back in the day which was one of dad’s favorite teams.
In the next couple of weeks, we will be highlighting some of the food that everyone enjoyed during their trip to Ditka’s Chicago.
Have you enjoyed these past couple of weeks my friends sharing in mom/dad’s adventure at Ditka’s Chicago?
Today we leave with the best picture of them all – dessert.
On the dessert menu, it was so hard to decide on something to share.
And we had to share – we had so much food! We settled on peanut butter pie – licks lips. It had whipped cream, peanut butter mousse, chocolate and caramel sauces.
By splitting this wonderful masterpiece, mom/dad said they all had split the calories too. And they said it was wonderfully sinful!
And trust me, everyone had so much food! Look at all of the leftover boxes that they went home with to eat later ❤
Happy National Cereal Day
Journalist Rocky the Squirrel here –
keeping his paws on the nuts of the world –
March 7 is NATIONAL CEREAL DAY.. you know breakfast cereal. Did you know that cereal is the most convenient form of breakfast? It’s quick and easy. Get a bowl, pour cereal, top with milk and enjoy! And, there’s so many different kinds of cereal out there! You can add fruit to it. You can top it with nuts or raisins. You can top it with granola. You can even add honey, maple syrup or crushed fruit. However you eat it, it can be a delicious way to start your day or end your day.
Now, I know this is going to be hard to believe but hang with me for just a minute. That pig – you know the one they call Bacon on this blog. This is a picture of his piggy chow in his breakfast bowl that he gets every morning. Do you know what the little oinker has on top of his piggy chow? Anyone – anyone at all? Cheerios! Can you believe that?! Even Bacon will be enjoying this day like all others with a topping of Cheerios on his piggy chow. He doesn’t care what kind, he likes them all! Regular, chocolate, banana nut, multi-grain, dulce de leche, peanut butter – all of them!
I mean think about it. Cheerios are not just for the heart conscious adults – it’s for the little man too. He has to watch his heart and health so he can be here for a very long time as well. Bacon and his mom eat their Cheerios together every morning… of course his mother doesn’t have piggy chow added to hers which is good to know.
So on this National Cereal Day, enjoy a nice bowl of cereal – perhaps even Cheerios and think about the little pig.
Travels in the South
The question is why is mom/dad posting this delectable picture of goodness at the beginning of the new year? Why mom/dad? Please explain. Well, they said they had this dessert last year. Okay, sure mom/dad. Sure. It does look yummy though, right?
Mom/dad found it at a restaurant that they don’t frequent very often – but they might now because of this dessert. This delicious dessert is called a Goo Goo Cluster. It has creamy layers of chocolate fudge, peanut butter mousse and nougat cream topped with caramel, chocolate sauce, fresh whipped cream and Nashville’s original candy ~ chopped Goo Goo Cluster ®. (That’s what it says on the restaurants website).
Nods head. Mom/dad says it tastes as good as it sounds… not that she will be tasting it anytime soon this year – snorts with piggy laughter.
Travels in the South
Oh my friends. This week daddy said he died and went to heaven. I don’t think he actually died and went to heaven but he had that look on his face like he was somewhere far, far away from all of us here at the Hotel Thompson. Heck, I think he was even smiling. It was a strange time for sure.
You see there’s two things that dad really loves. One is Utz potato chips. Have you ever had any of them before? Delicious. And I can say that first hoof because he has shared with me when he’s had his Utz chips. Nice of him huh? The second thing he loves is Butterfingers. That’s the top of his all time love of chocolate. Now these days, he doesn’t get much of either one. Cause you know he and mom are trying to be healthier.
But mom found something that she just knew daddy would – how did she say this? Have kittens over. Which was weird because I still haven’t see any kittens.
But here you go, two of dad’s favorites rolled up in one delicious combination. Daddy says if you see them in a store near you, don’t just buy ‘a’ bag. Buy a dozen or more. Yes, you will thank him later – snorts with piggy laughter.
Travels in the South
Welcome my friends to another edition of Travels in the South. This week in honor of the eclipse, we want to bring you something special. Something that is so out of this world that mom had to make pre-arrangements last week so she could partake in this glory. Pre-arrangements as in she walked extra – snorts with piggy laughter. And I don’t blame her because this was well worth the extra calories.
We’ve all heard of Krispy Kreme. It’s a doughnut chain that makes awesome doughnuts of every kind imaginable. And when the HOT doughnut sign is on, it means they have hot glazed doughnuts coming off of the conveyor. Hot glazed doughnuts that will melt in your mouth from being so fabulous. Okay give me a second – I need a moment.
Okay I’m good. With the eclipse coming this week, just for last weekend their regular glaze went chocolate. Can you imagine hot doughnuts going through a waterfall of fabulously hot chocolate? Trust me. It sounds much better than what it looks. But you can see from the pictures what I’m talking about.
Now do you see the hot chocolate glazed doughnuts in the box? Yes trust me on this. Mom/dad said they tasted so much better than what they look in the box – ha! Their thoughts about the first time chocolate eclipse doughnuts? They come off the conveyor hot. They are great but messy. I mean messy. Mom told daddy that she thought she was going to have to hose him down before he got into the Jeep. That kind of messy. But good. And mom said she preferred them once they went cold. They weren’t as messy then – which she loved. Either way, it was a once in a lifetime treat all the way around. And yeah, mom/dad didn’t forget about me. They brought me one of my favorites – an apple fritter. Now *that’s* what I’m talking about!
Travels in the South
Friends, this is a great one today. I know – I know. I say that every week on my Travels in the South. But listen – every week I think there is absolutely no way that mom/dad can top the week’s prior Travels in the South. And every week, this little oinker is wrong. Right after mom’s accident (4 weeks ago today), she was feeling really icky and low. So dad treated her to this masterpiece. What is it you ask?
Daddy was speaking with the owner of a local restaurant that we go to a lot and was telling him that mom needed something to pick her up. The manager sent over this creation on the house. This is called Goo Goo Crunch pie. It has layers of chocolate fudge, peanut butter mousse and a nougat cream topped with caramel, chocolate sauce, fresh whipped cream and oh yeah – chopped up Goo Goo Clusters. Can you say insanely wicked good?! Daddy said that he could tell it was good. Not by the smile on mom’s face. Nope. Daddy said he could tell by the groans coming from mom. Oh my piggy heavens. Watch out Billy Crystal and Meg Ryan. Daddy said mom had you beat on this day – snorts with piggy laughter!
Travels in the South
Welcome my friends to another week of Travels in the South. This week, mom/dad found something delicious and decadent. Something they had to share because you know sharing is half of the calories, right?
Now, I won’t tell anyone you were drooling while you were looking at that picture. Nope. That will just be our little secret. Are you wondering what it is? This is a white creamy cheesecake on a graham cracker crust swirled with white chocolate curls topped with fresh strawberries and whip cream. THUD! That would be my little piggy mouth hitting the floor. It sounds marvelous but mom/dad said it tasted even better. It was sweet but no so that your teeth ached afterwards. The cost was less than $5.00 and mom/dad said it was more than enough – even for two people. Who can turn down a good cheesecake? In fact, where is mine. Oh mom/dad….
