TODAY IS *MY* DAY!
Normally, I would let me friend Journalist Rocky the Squirrel tell you about important and interesting holidays. But today, well today is *my* day.
I bet you didn’t know that I have an entire holiday to myself? Well – I do!! Today is National Pig Day. I wait all year for my holiday.
But you’re probably asking yourself what is national pig day?
“National Pig Day
National Pig Day is an event held annually on March 1 in the United States to celebrate the pig. The holiday celebration was started in 1972 by sisters Ellen Stanley, a teacher in Lubbock, Texas, and Mary Lynne Rave of Beaufort, North Carolina.
According to Rave, the purpose of National Pig Day is “to accord the pig its rightful, though generally unrecognized, place as one of man’s most intellectual and domesticated animals.”
Since today is my day, I get to do what I want… within limitations. I get my favorite foods. I get the extra loving and snuggles. I get a piggy massage. I get my hooves done. Whatever I want – it’s all about pleasing this piggy. To all my fellow pig friends – cash in on this our holiday – enjoy it to the fullest!!
Yawn, I think I’ll start like I am in this picture. On the couch and snuggled with mommy!

What were your first thoughts when you met your new parents? Ooh, nice car! What’s on the left (Rocky give me a boost I can’t see!)? Whatsoever here on the right? Can I come up front? What’s down there? Does this window open? Squirrel!!!
What was the
defining moment when you knew you were in your forever home? .When Mommy gave Rocky and me our very own food bowls so I didn’t have to share.
What has been your biggest “Oh no, now I’ve done it” moment so far in your home? When I decided to go on walkabout around the neighborhood one night. There was a hole in the fence. Obviously that means I had permission! I don’t know why Mommy was so upset! But she fixed the fence that weekend so I guess permission has been revoked 😦
❤
Who do you have wrapped around your paws more – mom or dad – and why? Oh, I’ve got everyone wrapped around my paw. I’m Adorable!
What’s the biggest misconception that humans think about you? I may be small in stature but make no mistake, I’m in charge. Rocky will do anything I ask of him!

Hope you enjoyed meeting my friend – check back next week for another Spotlight edition!

What were your first thoughts when you met your new parents? I had been surrendered to a Scottish Terrier Rescue in Atlanta, so I was at a Vet’s there. The Vet had chipped and neutered me. The Vet was also treating me for a raging ear infection. I was greasy, tired and my ear hurt. Mama came over to my crate and said, “Dude, you don’t know it yet, but I am going to be your new best friend.” I was like, “Sure, whatever, go away”. However, the Vet Tech removed me from my crate and brought me up front where Mama was writing a check to cover my tab. The Vet looked at her and said, “He is a biter.” Mama said, “Really?” and PawPaw said, “Who the hell cares”….that man was such a card! It was a cold, nasty day in January. They put me in a kennel in the back of PawPaw’s Tahoe and away we went. I started getting excited, even th
ough I wouldn’t drink any water on way home. They stopped a lot so I could tinkle, etc. Each time I got back in my kennel, I got a little more excited, but I played it very low key.
What was the defining moment when you knew you were in your forever home? After about 6 hours of driving, we pulled in our driveway. They let me sniff around a bit and then brought me in the house. BAM! It happened. I knew I was home. I jumped on all the furniture downstairs, ran upstairs and jumped on the bed, and when I came back downstairs, I had forgotten my woes, cause I knew I was home. They were both laughing. Then, I put my paws up on a shelf to see what was up there and it flipped over, breaking everything. I froze! Mama said….it’s only stuff. No punishment, no scolding, nothing, nada. After all that running, jumping and breaking, I knew what Mama has said at the Vet’s was true. She was my new best friend.
What has been your biggest “Oh no, now I’ve done it” moment so far in your home? The first day I was home, P
awPaw forgot and left a door to the outside cracked. I slipped out. He looked for me for about 30 minutes, trying to figure out how to tell Mama he had lost her dog the very first day. When he pulled in our driveway, I was sitting in the front yard. Again, no yelling, scolding, etc. I just wanted to see my new ‘hood!
Who do you have wrapped around your paws more – mom or dad – and why? At first it was PawPaw. Mama was good for paying my bills, getting my food and supplies, taking me to Vet, etc. PawPaw shared his breakfast with me and since he was home and Mama was working, I gravitated towards him. Sadly, about 7 months after I came home, Mama had to buy him a ticket for the Bridge. After that, I got to know Mama, and she and I are a team !
What’s the biggest misconception that humans think about you? That I am a Schnauzer. No offense but for Dog’s sake, get your eyes checked people!

Hope you enjoyed meeting my friend – check back next week for another Spotlight edition!

Spotlight Thursday
Welcome my friends to SPOTLIGHT THURSDAY. This is the time that I will introduce you to one of my fellow anipals so you can get to know them better. Some of them, you may already know. We hope that you enjoy this new series!
Name: Dixie Lullabelle Poplin
Age: 10 years
Location: Deliverance, NC
Web/Blog Page: You can find me on Facebook. (My friends, Dixie will be checking in throughout the day for comments/messages. Please welcome Dixie to the blogville world.)
What were your first thoughts when you met your new parents? Originally, I thought, WTF, but then I realized that the Daddy always makes sure that everyone in the home is well-fed. The Mama provides very warm armpits in the middle of the night. She refers to it as something called hot flashes, but I call it Chihuahua heaven!
What was the defining moment when you knew you were in your forever home? When I built a puppy Stonehenge under the bed with doggie poop and they didn’t take me to the pound.
What has been your biggest “Oh no, now I’ve done it” moment so far in your home? Refer to the question/answer above
Who do you have wrapped around your paws more – mom or dad – and why? My daddy. He has a high tolerance for most things, and loves to feed me whatever he’s eating. The Mama, however, runs a tight ship, which includes outside pee breaks, regardless of rain, sleet, snow or bitter cold. Sometimes I even pee little ice driblets.
What’s the biggest misconception that humans think about you? My personal humans know that I’m actually a super-hero. Outsiders mistake my irreverence for ignorance. They shall be taken care of hastily.
Hope you enjoyed meeting my friend Dixie – check back next week for another Spotlight edition!
