Noises at Night

22 Jun

As I lay in bed at night sleeping, I have to think about the different sounds I hear coming from outside my bedroom window.  Now that we are in the Summer months, it seems like everything is coming alive, especially at night.  So there I was last night, tucked in and waiting for Mr. Sandman to visit.  I listened intently.

I could hear grasshoppers.  One I’ve nicknamed Sensei because he is so very loud and seems to hang out right near my window to the right every single night.  It’s like he tells me goodnight.

I could hear kids laughing and yelling.  Heck it’s almost 9pm – why are there kids still outside playing in the dark?  They better be chasing lightening bugs and not chasing trouble.

I could hear the faint sounds of a radio from the people next door.  Those neighbors are Asian so the music had a chime-chime affluence.  It was soothing to me.

I could hear dogs barking – it must be that pesky little Chihuahua across the street hanging out with his posse and being bad again leaving nuggets on everyone’s front yard.

I could hear frogs.  They sounded like enormous frogs with giant legs and deep guts.  There are LOADS of them in my magical backyard due to the creek that runs behind it.

Then the most deep sound of them all started.  It’s enough to shake our little house and it comforts me enough to rock me to sleep.  What is it you ask?  Of course, its dad snoring. ❤

What sounds do you hear at night when you are trying to go to sleep?

Bacon, those are wonderful sounds you hear at night, so comforting. I mostly only hear the hum of my dad’s breathing machine and the whisper of the cool air coming out of the vents.

That can really be comforting to my friend. The soft hum and whirl of the machine. Yeah – mom keeps a fan on in their bedroom for sound like that. Cool huh? XOXO – Bacon

I like the night noises except for the coyotes or what sounds like a cat fight.
On a hot summer day, dark can be very fun for children. Our moon is so bright here. We acted out the “Keystone Cops” using a moving flashlight.

I hear fire engines (there is a station at the end of the road), motor bikes standing at the new traffic lights (I live in the corner house), music coming from cars (and in summer coming from balconies), right now it is European Soccer Championship – so fans getting excited are part of this very modern concerto, too. And then my tom comes up to me and his purr drowns out all other noises. The best sound in the world.

Oh, Piglove, you here many sounds from yout window until you fell asleep. I here only birds singing outside, no cars, no dogs, no sounds. Inside the house the most lovely sound is our cat Kosmo snoring really loud. He sleeps with us and I fall asleep easily listening that snoring.
    Have great dreams this night!
    Kosmo’s mom,

You have your very own nighttime orchestra and choir, Bacon. How magical! I live at a pretty busy intersection, so I hear cars going to and fro, the chef who lives across the street coming home in the wee hours, people dropping things into our trash cans (I have no idea who these people are or what they put in there, but I’m thankful they aren’t littering the street), and people talking and giggling as they walk home from an evening of fun. Amazingly, I sleep through it all.

Do the frogs seem so much louder this year than last? Or is just me thinking this? XOXO – Bacon

You should try listening to the sounds of day while you’re trying to sleep like I do… lawns being mowed, roofers pounding away at nails, squirrels running around on my roof…. you won’t hear any of that on one of those background noise CD’s they make to help people fall asleep!

oh Squeals!! I must try that my friend and do a comparison. Those sounds might keep this oinker from his beauty sleep… we can’t have that now can we? Snorts. XOXO – Bacon

I like your good night concert :o) we have a tawny owl on the attic of our garage… and that owl has owl-chicks now… brother the noises they make are awful… it’s much more worse than a dad who had green beens….

Oh my brother! I can only imagine. I don’t think I’ve ever heard an owl let alone owl chicks. Noisy huh? So cool. XOXO – Bacon

they are a pain in our butts…I wonder how they will hunt a mouse or a berd… I mean if they scream like banshees all animals run away in a wild stampede…

What an interesting concert you have to put you to sleep, B. At night I hear TV. Just the TV all night long every single night. Sometimes Mom mutes it, but she never shuts it off. We’re afraid of the dark so we like the light of it.

    Love and licks,
