Shopping Around the World

30 Apr

My friend Fozzie and I have scheduled a group posting today of Shopping Around the World.   We thought it would be interesting to see the differences between different countries all over.

Here are our prices for the following from our area – Georgia USA:

  • Loaf of bread – $1.00 on sale or $1.99 if not on sale
  • Gallon of milk – $3.09
  • Dozen eggs – $1.79
  • Gas per gallon – $3.61
  • Movie ticket – $1.50 at the cheap theater or $9.50 at the luxury theater (my mom/dad haven’t decided if the ‘cheap tickets’ are worth it.  Last time they went, they thought they were going to have to get the jaws of life to get them out of the seats made for children – snorts)
  • At the movies, how much are the concessions? – $20.00 easy – Bucket of popcorn/2 drinks (at either place – the cheaper theatre or the luxury theater).
  • McDonald’s cheeseburger – $1.00 for a plain one or $3.49 for the Big Mac
  • Jar of peanut butter – Store brand $1.88 for small jar or name brand $4.99 or higher!
  • A can of Fancy Feast cat food – $.69 each!

Are you surprised at any of the prices above?  Do tell.

Numbers mix me up, but overall, Georgia has lower prices than NJ. Plus I love peanut butter. And I think I would also love a burger if I ever had one in my entire life!

Love and licks and I want a burger,

Hi Bacon!! Wallace and Samuel here from South Africa! We asked mom to do some comparisons for us to share with you.

    Loaf of bread – R13.99 = $1.33
    2L of milk – R23.99 = $2.27
    Dozen eggs – R30.00 = $2.84
    Petrol per litre – R14.39 = $1.36
    Big Mac Meal – R42.00 = $3.98
    Jar of peanut butter (400g) – R24.99 = $2.37
    A can of Fancy Feast cat food – R9.99 = $0.95

So…what do you think?? Other than petrol, prices are the same regardless of which part of the country you live in. We live in Johannesburg.

I don’t know about all the prices but the Bread for sure is way cheaper in Georgia. I generally buy whatever is on sale because it typically is between 3.00 and 5.00 per loaf here. Serious, groceries are so pricey lately. I’m glad we’re only two and not a family of 5. I don’t know how they manage. Currently, a litre of gas in Edmonton is around $1.27. That translates to $4.80/gallon
    (3.785 litre’s per gallon x $1.27). Luckily, I don’t need to drive much.

WOW – gas is really expensive there – thank goodness for mom’s Smart car Albert. She says she will never complain again about filling him up for the month for only $25.00 – snorts. Prices on everything went up here when gas prices went up. The problem is that the size of packaging also went down with prices going up. XOXO – Bacon
