Daddy Took a Tumble

20 Dec

20131216-085052.jpg Bless little daddy’s heart. He was out working in the yard with our next door neighbor, Big Daddy. Big Daddy was so nice to cut down a tree and a bush in our front yard of the Hotel Thompson. Mommy has always hated these two trees. They kind of cover the front door area and you know for safety reasons, she wanted them gone like yesterday. So, Big Daddy cut them down and my daddy was helping to drag/carry them to the back of Big Daddy’s house where he would later burn them. In this picture to the left, Big Daddy’s house is on the right and our Hotel Thompson is on the left.

There’s a storm drainage that runs to the left side of the picture where you see all of those trees/bushes. . Now remember, daddy has limited vision. But, of course he could take the limbs and such to the back of the white shed in this picture, right?

20131216-085043.jpg

Well, apparently not. Daddy was taking limbs down and miscalculated where he was. Before Big Daddy could scream or say anything, daddy went boom and walked right off in the storm drainage. It’s probably about 4-5 feet down. I’m not sure who was more scared – daddy or Big Daddy.

Daddy took a bad tumble. He didn’t get hurt bad. He got a lot of scrapes and bruises. It could have been a lot worse. But my daddy, he’s a toughie. He told Big Daddy that he had been hit worse during his football days. But still, that was a good tumble. I know that Big Daddy got scared.

And you know what, neither of them called mommy at the worky place right off… which was probably a good thing. Daddy went inside of the Hotel Thompson, took off all of his wet clothes and took a hot shower. Let’s just say he had more leaves on him than in a cup of hot tea.

He finally broke down and called mommy before she got off work just to give her a heads up. He acted like it wasn’t a big deal and everything was fine. But on the way home, Big Daddy called mommy and told her what happened as well. And it’s funny how men try to hide things. Daddy has let it out a little here and there about how when he fell, there were some sharp rocks that fell right between his legs but didn’t hit him. I think someone was watching out for my daddy this day.

Do ya’lls humans ever do anything like this that has scared the bejeesus out of you? I was so concerned this day with daddy that I kept going up to him and bunting him with my snout checking on him. I even whined a couple of times to let him know I was there for him.

thank goodness your Daddy is ok. One time I was walking on the dock out at the lake and wasn”t watching where I was going, and fell right off of the dock into the lake.
It was fall and other than get really cold I was ok.
I felt so foolish and my sons were really scared.

I bet they were scared! That would have frightened this little piggy to see you go off and fall into the water. But of course, I would have jumped in to save you my friend 🙂 XOXO – Bacon

I am so glad he is OK! He is so brave because that type of injury would cause pain. You tell Mom to give him extra love and attention and good for you keeping your piggy eyes on him. 🙂

Yes ma’am. I certainly will. Just fortunately when he fell, he didn’t ‘jerk’ his body like he would have if he had seen he was falling. Does that make sense? And of course, mommy keeps hearing little tidbits from what happened that he didn’t tell her originally. Like that the two sharp bricks that were right between his legs that didn’t touch him. If they had of, he would have been cut badly for sure instead of just bruises and scrapes. I know it scared my mommy. XOXO – Bacon

Oh dear…your daddy will be sore in odd places for a few days. =/ So, Bacon you ‘must’ keep a close watch in your daddy and bunt him gently to let him know you love him. We don’t like it when our clan folks hurt….. Lucy & Mac (scotty dogs) ♪ RoOodles~~~~~~~~~~~

This is true and I will my sweet dear friends. I’ve been trying to be extra good to him and help guide him around the house. He’s gotten quite a ‘goose egg’ on the back of one of his arms. And like you said, he’s sore with lots of colorful brown, green and blue marks all over. XOXO – Bacon

I think it was to everyone. Big Daddy was a distance off and was keeping his eyes out for him but had turned to get some limbs to bring down as well. He looked up and saw him walk right off into the ditch. It was definitely a scary moment. XOXO – Bacon

Maybe your daddy could be a Hollywood stuntman. They get paid to fall a lot and not get hurt. He’s a tough cookie, and we agree – somebody was looking out for him. I hope he feels better soon. You are clearly the best medicine for him! Stay close.

    Love and licks,

aaww – that is true. Daddy is a true loving character and he’s trying to joke through this today with mommy but we all know. He’s hurting a bit. It hurt his left side mostly. His side is scratched up pretty bad, his left arm underneath it all the way down to his hand. You know he’s still daddy when he told the neighbor, “Quick get your camera so I can take pictures of my honey beating me up.” Really daddy? Snorts. XOXO – Bacon

I’m trying today while mommy is off at the worky place. Daddy didn’t want her to stay home and miss work – the end of the year is tough on her especially with trying to take some off next week. He’s been okay this morning. I’m giving him extra snuggles. XOXO – Bacon

So glad your Daddy is ok Bacon! That is skeery!! CH, the Husband, scares the bejeesus out of me all the time. Like when he got on the roof and wouldn’t get back down. He is afraid of heights.. but he is a pilot.. go figure! And this summer when he hurt his back cutting up a tree. We may be ready for a 55 plus community.. 😀 Hope all is calm at Hotel Thompson and your Daddy isn’t too sore today.

These guys do know how to frighten our mommies, right? Big Daddy helps us a lot so daddy thought he could help with bringing the limbs/branches down to the back of his yard for burning. He’s done that trip so many times. He just got off balance and went boom. What was his first words when Big Daddy got to him? “That’s an ouchie”. That’s my tough daddy. XOXO – Bacon

This is so true. No big damage. In fact, daddy told Big Daddy that more than anything he’s ego was hurt because he feels he can’t do the simplest of things anymore with his vision problems. I told mommy that I would make him feel better today in that aspect. I’m going to give him my services and be his seeing eye pig all day. XOXO – Bacon

Please take good care of your daddy, brother. Dads are heroes and they ignore all pains and wounds. But they mostly underestimate things. My dad did that too once and the consequences were really bad. Please give your dad a hug from me ( a big one).

Sure will bro. He’s being good today, staying on his heating pad right beside me. He’s getting kind of colorful as the day goes on. Mom has called and checked on him a couple of times. I told dad to take it easy today or I would text mommy. So far, so good. I’ll go give him some sloppy hugs and kisses from you now. XOXO – Bacon

Yes there was. It’s funny how dad tells mom about all of these ‘other’ factors that he didn’t tell her right off isn’t it. Why are dads like that? The bad thing is when he fell, he fell on his bad side that took a hit in a car accident several years back. It looks like he’s been in a boxing match right now. But sshhh – don’t tell mommy that right now okay. XOXO – Bacon

    Hi Bacon,
Snork,I`m glad he is OK. He is lucky not to be accident prone as i am sometimes. we had to take a very long branch off a tree that overhung next doors garden. I climbed up and drilled a lot of holes through as my saw didn`t work very well on wet wood. I then put a rope around the end of it and my wife and I pulled. It was quite a battle as we were see sawing on the end of the rope. It started to rain but we had to finish so we wrapped the rope around us and gave a great tug, the branch broke and we ended up in a muddy puddle with the tree across my legs. The moral being, always plan the job and think of what the outcome could be when you don`t. 🙂 Going to take Alice Christmas goodies on Boxing Day. Have a great Christmas and hope you get some cake as you must have a sweet tooth like Alice.
