06 May

Very important week this week – there are lots of different ways to acknowledge this wonderful professional.  Here are some important dates for you to remember:

  • May 6th thru May 12th is National Nurse’s Week.
  • May 8th is National Student Nurse’s Day AND National School Nurses Day
  • May 12th is International Nurse’s Day

This entire week provides recognition to nurses for their contribution and commitment to quality health care.  We should all be aware of the importance of nurses in all stages of our lives from infant to elderly.  They comfort us, support us, encourage us and help us in our times of need.

Did you know? The roots of International Nurse’s Day goes back to 1953.  Dorothy Sutherland who was over the US Department of Health, Education and Welfare sent a proposal to President Eisenhower to proclaim a Nurse Day in October of the following year.  The proclamation was not officially made.  But, this week was created and gained national recognition.

Also did you know?  International Nurse’s Day is celebrated on May 12th because that is the birthday of Florence Nightingale.

So here’s a HUGE thank you to all of the wonderful nurse’s out there who take care of all of our loved ones and give that extra love.

This is Journalist Rocky the Squirrel reporting out – Have a great day!

Now this is definitely a worthy “national” day. A friend of mine is a nurse and they truly are incredibly hard working but under valued members of the health care group.
