Spotlight Thursday – Meet Tink

23 Feb

Spotlight Thursday

Welcome my friends to SPOTLIGHT THURSDAY.  This is the time that I will introduce you to one of my fellow anipals so you can get to know them better.  Some of them, you may already know.  We hope that you enjoy this series!

Name:  TinkerToy (but everybody who wants to live calls me TINK)

Age:  2 last October (that makes me a teenager, according to Mom, and that’s when she promised I could get my learner’s permit and start blogging, so I did – and I do)

Location:  A great big apartment with a teeny tiny porch facing a little tiny yard next to a really noisy road in Cincinnati, Ohio. Mom works there, too – so we spend most of our time together. In her office.

Web/Blog Page:  Mom hogs our only computer (no offense meant, Bacon!) – so I only get to be a Guest Blogger on ADDandSoMuchMORE.com every once in a while.  Here’s a link to my very first blog post, Blogging Tips from a Shih Tzu

You can find others from there, using the Guest Posts drop-down on the bottom center of Mom’s menu bar – at the top of every page – scroll down to my name, and then click for a blog roll of what I’ve blogged (so far).

Except for just a few other 2-legses guest posts, she wrote the rest herself – 2-legs stuff, mostly (and kinda’ boring if you ask me), but she did write a GREAT one on the day she went to pick me up for the very first time.  ALL I want for Christmas is . . . A Shih Tzu Puppy

What were your first thoughts when you met your new parents?  At first I was sort of confused.  Aunt Peggy took the trip with Mom to come get me in upstate Ohio.  I’ve since figured out that Mom could get lost in a bathtub, so Aunt Peggy came to keep it a day trip instead of a weekend with a hotel stay in Kansas, she says.

I thought they were both really nice, but Aunt Peggy was holding me and making little cooing-clucking noises while Mom did some other stuff with my birth-Mom’s Mom. I couldn’t figure out what was going on until after the l-o-n-g ride in that big noisy wheelie thing that I now know is a wanna’-ride-in-the-car.

Mom held me on her lap wrapped in a really soft blanket inside a big purse with windows for the whole long trip — while Aunt Peggy pretty much ignored me, kinda’ dizzy from the whizzing in the big front window she kept staring at, I guess.

I wasn’t really sure we weren’t on the way to a new vet or something until Mom and I got out and Aunt Peggy kept on going.  I was even more confused when we went inside.  There was a big tree IN the house, with lights on it and a bunch of other stuff – and she kept putting me in scarves and things to take my picture.

NOW I know that’s how she celebrates Christmas, but I don’t mind sayin’ it was really weird that first day.  But I figured Mom was a pretty understanding two-legs, since she didn’t leave my side for several days and nights. So I knew I’d be okay until somebody came to take me back home where all the trees stayed outside.

What was the defining moment when you knew you were in your forever home?  That one’s easy – the treats.  Mom already had my food, a couple of special beds, blankets, toys and stuff for me, and she knew that I was used to going potty on peepee pads. But I was afraid I’d have to go without my treats in this new place.

The first time she came near me with a piece of banana, I suspected that maybe I wasn’t going back home – that this WAS gonna’ be home now.  When she finally noticed I was getting a bit tired of bananas and handed over the carrots and the broccoli, I knew my suspicions were right — and I pretty much figured that I had it made!

Not having to share helped me get over missing my brothers and sisters too. FAST.  I didn’t even cry once.  I actually love to be with mostly two-legses now.  None of the four-legses ever have any treats.

What has been your biggest “Oh no, now I’ve done it” moment so far in your home?   That would have to be a tie between shredding the toilet paper,, tearing up the peepee pads, and pulling the stuffing out of one of the couch pillows and burying it in special places all over our apartment.  (I think the two-legses aren’t as fond of a change of texture now and then, and they get crazy when we four-legses LOVE it).

I could tell Mom was really mad because she used her bad-dog voice when she turned her eyes from that little box thing with the sounds and earmuffs she talks to all the time and caught me at it — and she growled every time she found another little bit of something I’d hidden somewhere new.

She still hasn’t put the stuffing back in that couch pillow, by the way. It’s on some list, she says – even though anybody could see it plain as day on the table.

Who do you have wrapped around your paws more – mom or dad – and why?  I don’t have a Dad . My friend Xander doesn’t have a Mom, so I guess some dogs only get one or the other — and boy am I’m glad I got the one I did.  Uncle Jason is great and all, but Mom’s a push-over.

She plays frisbee with me, fetch toys down our long hallway, and is pretty much always good for a quick game of find the ball under the furniture. She also keeps the tangles out of my coat (mostly), cooks special treats like sweet potato chewies, and fixes special food so I’m not stuck with those dry health-food chunks all the time.

When its nice outside and I’ve been really good she takes me to play with these little two-legses in the park. But the best thing is when we walk to a lake near where we live – and I get to play with the big 2-legses who are trying to rescue the fish on these sticks with strings.  Before we head home I get up on one of the benches and she gives me a big drink of water – and treats, just for being such a great dog!

Oh yeah, and her bed is MY bed now.  The ones I started out with are now reserved just for naps.  I even have one on my own chair next to our computer – with a little step stool so I can get down if I get bored watching her work.  Since we’re in the same bed anymore, I can sometimes even wake her up (when she’s still sleeping and the sun is really bright and some dogs want to go outside!) But not always.

I wrote all about the pain of having to deal with her sleep disorder in my extra-special article for N-24 Awareness Day.  Sleeping with the Enemy: Mom’s N-24

What’s the biggest misconception that humans think about you?  That I am a GIRL!  There’s this great Cheers bar on my route (where everybody knows my name). My fan club hangs there, and we check in during our night walks. But they keep saying “she.”   Haven’t they ever seen a topknot before?  It’s not just girls who want to be able to see, for pete sakes – and my bangs grow really fast. Sheesh!

Hope you enjoyed meeting my friend – check back next week for another Spotlight edition!

Thanks for the visit and the comment, Easy. We’d sure have a ball together in that big room where the 2-legses sit on those big white chairs – TONS of toilet paper there.

This is sooooooo cool, Bacon. How great of you to make me a STAR! Mom is making me wait to post my announcement for a bit – something about more chances for folks to see one or the other in that Reader that both posts don’t show up at the same time???

But I am jumping at the bit to tell EVERYONE this great news. I am SO excited.

Hey Tink, great to read a bit more about you! My two-legs is hogging the ‘puter at present (no offense, Bacon!) but I think it is about time she vacated the desk for a bit 😉 Much love, Ani xxx

      HELLO ANI !!!!

It’s so great to see you over here. It’s getting really late here and Mom’s draggin’ us off to bed, but I made her let me check to see if I had any new visitors at the Spotlight first, and BOY am I glad. I would have missed you ’til whenever she wakes up from her sleep disorder.

But here’s the big concern: how come some of the other 4-legs get their pictures and you and I have to use our Moms’. Is it ’cause we have to share a computer with them, or more like some of us don’t get a Mom AND a Dad?

I have to rely on mine for pictures as well… and she doesn’t much like being on the other end of the camera, she says. Don’t see why not, she’s always pinting the thing at me… even in the bath!
Sleep well, Tink. Much love, Ani xxx

My Mom has a lot of pictures from when she was younger, but she hates to have her picture taken now. I tell her that just because she can’t use a camera to take a good picture, it doesn’t mean that’s true for the other 2-legses, but she still doesn’t let them take pictures of her anymore.

Mom says she had to learn how to get her picture taken back when she was an actor – and now that she “quit the biz” and doesn’t have to have new photos and keep all fixed up and spackled all the time, she’s done with it all.

I think she’s gotten a bit sloppy and doesn’t want evidence, but I don’t want to hurt her feelings (plus, I am afraid she’d have a fit about that evidence part).

I hoped you guys would pay a visit to the Spotlight and that you would say hi. Yeah, Mom’s a sweetie-pie (she says that to me so I guess that’s how the 2-legses think of it, but she tastes sorta’ salty to me, to tell you the truth).

Thanks for stopping by. I’ll head over to the Ranch real soon. I don’t want more time on the computer , btw – I want her to get me a computer of my very own! Then I could spend all MY time on it, just like her.

Hi Shoko – I’m glad you like my attitude, but I don’t really think I’m superior – I just have clear vision and tell it like it is. (hehehe)

You are so lucky to be CANADIAN cats, btw. Mom has been scared to be in America since her birthday last November. (Something to do with orange and twitter-birds, I think.) I wish being where you are in real life could happen as fast as on the internet. But I’ll be over to see how it is where you live soon enough.

      02/23/2017 at 5:34 pm

Thanks, Kate. My fan club at the Cheers bar down the street say that I’m fun – and I tend to believe what they say more than Mom’s opinion on this fun thing. She thinks even boring things like blogging about how the brain works are fun. I love our house – it’s big enough that I can run around, even when it’s raining cats and dogs outside (which Mom will never let me out to see, btw).

I have an adopted aunt name Kate too. She reblogs a lot of Mom’s posts, but she doesn’t discriminate against the fur-faced bloggers, including me, so that’s why I adopted her. Now I love *everybody* with that name.

awwwwww – how sweet of you to say that. Coffee and tea taste bitter (and I’m not allowed to have them), but it must make you 2-legses really sweet. The difference in Mom after she has her coffee is amazing – especially when she first wakes up.

Stardom thanks to Bacon – and to everybody like you guys who were grrrreat to read my interview. I love all the attention – Mom’s kinda’ focused on her computer too much for me to feel like much of a star at home. So THANKS, really. Maybe Beba and Barmalei might want to step into the spotlight. I think Bacon keeps a list, since he has to produce a new show every week.

Well, you get a lot of attention from your Mom’s fans on her great blog, so maybe an actual interview is “coals to Newcastle” as Mom says. Not that coal has anything to do with anything, but the 2-legses seem to like to say that whenever they think something is not really necessary.

Tink, we’ll tell you a secret: it’s a show we put on every night for our humans’ benefit, sound effects and all. Growing up with these two who are both from Odessa, we had to become comedians by osmosis.

I have my own dish, but I don’t think it’s very special. She has a few of them for me, but they all look exactly the same. Every single day.

Mom saves back something she calls calories when she makes my food – so I can have yummie treats at other times without turning into a fat dog. She says she’d love me anyway, but my vet says it would be hard on my hips – and we love our vet, so Mom listens.

I have a tiny mouth, so my treats are tiny too, like sweet potato chips she makes just for me — but sometimes she lets me have a half a carrot like she eats – ALL for me!

Ooooh, Tink, you are spoiled! We have one food bowl and one water bowl for every day, and we share them. They are very pretty, and when you reach the bottom, it says “Good Cat” – we love it! But the Friday “forspecial” dish is a human dish, and we eat special yummy food on the kitchen table – yay!

Oh, dear Tink, what a pity you don’t have Shabbos! It’s a special day for us, and humans too, but especially for us cats because we were born with souls of the righteous, so we get extra respect (“Not you, silly Beba!” “Frrrrr! All brothers think too much of themselves!”)

        02/27/2017 at 10:06 pm

I know. Mom makes Christmas last pretty long (and we even have candles then) – and I think I’ll get a basket of treats and toys for Easter, but I wish she’d work in Shabbos too.

She says, given the way she was raised, I’m lucky she celebrates anything even slightly related to religion – she says her religion is more along the lines of “spiritual.”

All the MORE reason to include Shabbos, don’t you think?

There is always a reason to include Shabbos – it’s the most spiritual day of the week, but regarding who should or shouldn’t do what in their lives, we take the 5th. Actually, 5 times 2 = 10, so we take the 10th!

Hey sweet friend! I’m a miniature pot-bellied piggy. I’m small sized (about 45 pounds) so mom says that’s not the eating kind. Of course she might be biased and say that not too hurt my feelings but I don’t act like I know the truth. You understand? XOXO – Bacon

      • Madelyn Griffith-Haynie, MCC, SCAC

        02/28/2017 at 5:11 pm

Well I guess any of us could be eaten by *something* – so maybe “usually” is what’s really true? But, for a pig, you are really little, so it would probably be too much trouble for too little payoff. I’ll bet they go for the really big guys.

But YOUR Mom and Dad won’t let anybody with a fork anywhere near you, so you don’t have to worry.

You guys remind me of some twins I knew as a child. They could spat all day over who got the biggest egg for breakfast. But they were really best friends.

        Friends are the best!

That 2-legs with the orange face needs to stop fighting with people and get to know some. Maybe that’s why he’s so mean – not many friends. But Mom says if you want a friend you have to act friendly. Do you think his Mom never taught him that?

WOL (woof out loud)! I sure can relate Tink! I’m with my peoples constantly and regularly have to bring my Frisbee to em and nudge them to take me outside and play. I want to play all the time and we do a lot especially when out on our road trips but when we’re home they are hogging the computer. The use to let me d’log more but now they are blogging more and more. Us dogs have a lot in common and our peoples don’t know the half of it. Since finding your site I’m going to bark some more time to reach out to you. Does your mommy feel guilty when you tip your head and put that pouty look on? That look gets my peoples attention all the time. Oh, I think you are very handsome, I mean don’t’ get me wrong, I’m not hitting on you I don’t think but woof, it the tail wags so be it.

Hi Emma! Thanks for stopping by to read my interview. [lol d’log!!!] Yeah, Mom’s a sucker for “the look” – sometimes it gets her to play and sometimes it gets me a treat, but it always works on her, heh-heh-heh. I think you get more outdoor play than I do – but we have a big place, so I probably get more indoor play – but as long as we can keep them playing it’s all good, right?

Frisbees are the BEST, aren’t they? Mom spends waaaaay too much time on her computer too – so I know just what you mean. MY posts are what people REALLY want to read, not all that boring mental health stuff, but just try convincing her of that one. You are right about that “half of it” part. Some days I believe they are totally clueless!

I think you are pretty cute too, but getting our 2-legses together so we might actually meet is probably not gonna’ happen. I usually have to drag Mom into my Cheers bar down the street, for heaven’s sakes.

Thanks, Tammy. It may make me seem more than a bit crazy, but looking at life through Tink’s eyes keeps me sane and gives me a bit of a welcome break from my usual topics. (he’s probably right about that bathtub, btw – I *live* lost!). Thanks again for for taking the time to stop by to read Tink’s interview – and letting us know that you did.

Welcome Tink! I am very pleased to meet you. I am glad you gave so much information about yourself. Your Mom visits my blog and “likes” it from time to time. I will have to hop over and say hi. 🙂

Hi Amy. If Mom “likes” it means she really likes. She’s ADD, you know, so sometimes she wanders off before she comments – but she usually does eventually – on and on and on and on! 🙂

Thanks for stopping by Bacon’s Spotlight and reading my interview.

Interesting. I know sometimes it is tempting to hit like just so the blogger knows you were there. That’s why I always try to leave a comment. Now that we’re friends, please do add your opinion whenever you feel like it. 🙂

Thanks Amy. Mom hogs the computer for her work, so sometimes I don’t have a bunch of time on blogs, but we both like to chat, so we often do.
