Happy Groundhog Day!!

Journalist Rocky the Squirrel here –

“Keeping my paws on the nuts of the world!”

Today, February 2nd is Groundhog Day.    According to folklore, there are two options that could happen today:

If it’s cloudy when the groundhog emerges and he doesn’t see his shadow, then spring will be right around the corner; but

If it’s sunny when the groundhog emerges, he does *see* his shadow and retreats back into his burrow, then winter will continue for six more weeks.

The largest groundhog day celebration takes place every year in Punxsutawney, Pennsylvania.

Personally, I hope that spring is right around the corner.  I could go for some warmer weather here at the Hotel Thompson.  And I know that oinker Bacon would enjoy it.

Good luck on whatever you want.   I’ll be back soon!

Spotlight Thursday – Meet Marshal Davout

Spotlight Thursday

Welcome my friends to SPOTLIGHT THURSDAY.  This is the time that I will introduce you to one of my fellow anipals so you can get to know them better.  Some of them, you may already know.  We hope that you enjoy this series!

Name:  Marshal Davout

Age:  3 and a half years

Location:  Southern California USA

Web/Blog Page:  http://threecatyard.wordpress.com/

What were your first thoughts when you met your new parents?  Too scared to think. I don’t handle car trips or new things well.  Still don’t.

What was the defining moment when you knew you were in your forever home?  After a little I got braver, and Rhea made friends with me in our room while we took some medicine. But in a while, we got out to explore the whole house and met the two Old Guy cats (Julius and Gus).  I wasn’t scared of them and they didn’t get mad at me at all when I went downstairs to explore – before Rhea got up the courage to come too.

What has been your biggest “Oh no, now I’ve done it” moment so far in your home?   When Uncle Julius was a tiny kitten, he fell through the railing upstairs above the living room and fell. He was OK. Dad put up a cardboard cover along the railing to keep us from doing it…and I climbed it and fell down too.  I wasn’t hurt either.

Who do you have wrapped around your paws more – mom or dad – and why?  I’m not good at making people do things. I sometimes ask to go out back but it has been to rainy recently.

What’s the biggest misconception that humans think about you?  That Rhea is the boss of me.  I let her take the lead mostly, but when she does bad stuff I’m still the BIG brother.

Hope you enjoyed meeting my friend – check back next week for another Spotlight edition!
