Spotlight Thursday
Welcome my friends to SPOTLIGHT THURSDAY. This is the time that I will introduce you to one of my fellow anipals so you can get to know them better. Some of them, you may already know. We hope that you enjoy this series!
Name: Sugar (Goffin’s Cockatoo)

Age: at least 25 years (as a rescue, we’re not sure, but he was born before the import ban of wild-caught birds)
Location: Colorado
Web/Blog Page: https://peacewithmylife.com/
What were your first thoughts when you met your new parents? I was so depressed at the rescue that I didn’t care much if I had new parents or not. The rescue had taken away my mate, and the boy I adored forever (a man, now) didn’t love me anymore. I was too sad to care.
What was the defining moment when you knew you were in your forever home? When they let me out of my cage to fly around the house, I knew that I wanted to stay and it would all be okay. Flying fixes everything!
What has been your biggest “Oh no, now I’ve done it” moment so far in your home? Probably the time I bit mom so deeply that she bled a lot, cursed a little, and had to go to get a tetanus shot. I’ve got a powerful beak, you know. I’d bitten everyone by then, and no one liked me; I thought they were going to send me away like the boy did (*hangs head in shame*). I’m so happy they kept me. I don’t bite anymore. Much.
Who do you have wrapped around your paws more – mom or dad – and why? Definitely Mom! I spend a lot of time on her shoulder, and I supervise all her work on the computer. We usually eat together, too, which I just love! I test everything she eats!
What’s the biggest misconception that humans think about you? They think that just because I’m old, I’m grown up. What are they thinking? I’m a cockatoo! We never really grow up!

Hope you enjoyed meeting my friend – check back next week for another Spotlight edition!

Did ya’ll think that Bashful would never get to his new destination? Well, you would be wrong. He is well and rolling around. Where do you ask. Get this – Bashful is going wild! Wild, wild west that is. He is currently staying with his host family in Northeast Wyoming! Be sure to go check it out here. Thanks friends! ❤

Never fear my friends – have you been wondering about Bashful and his antics of late? Well, I’m glad to report that he has been settling down here at the Hotel Thompson for a much needed rest these past couple of weeks. He advised that he had jet lag something wicked from his last trip so rest for the weary huh?
But never fear. He is still going strong and he and the other pet rocks have been putting their heads together to come up with a contest for very soon – so be on the lookout for that okay. It should be a real hoot.
AND the rock clan has something BIG they are also working on for the end of May – doesn’t that pique your interest? They never slow down – what can I say. Just like Bashful taking time out to explore and have fun with some of his friends in this picture. Can you spot him?

Dear Bacon,
What? We were playing really hard outdoors. My friend Tinker got tired. I thought I would carry him back indoors to his mommy. I wasn’t hurting him or anything – honestly. We are just good buds. Signed Friendly Coon
Dear Friendly Coon,
aaww – Isn’t that very nice of you. I bet ya’ll have a great friendship. Tinker must love and trust you so very much. It’s nice to see that kind of friendship these days.
.

Dear Bacon,
Have you ever just stopped and had a great time? Sometimes life is just way too complicated. Every once in a while, we just need to stop and pounce in the leaves to let go of a little steam. It’s great therapy. Have you ever played with the leaves and let go of a little steam? Signed Pug Happy
Dear Pug Happy,
OMP (Oh my pig!) You look so happy there jumping in the leaves and letting go of your ‘steam’. I have played outside in the leaves once or twice. Now that I think of it, it was a great way to have fun and let loose a bit. I did have a great time playing with mom. You are right – carry on my friend and have a wonderful time!
.
Dear Bacon,
How humilating. My human not only took this picture but pinned it on Tumblr. Good grief. Will this humiliation ever end? Trust me, I’m two steps from going hostile back there with my human daddy. It may not look like it to you, but inside I’m steaming up like a volcano. Signed Dash
Dear Dash,
You know I like to look at the bright side of problems my friend. For instance, look at you – you don’t have to walk when you can be carried. 🙂 No, not buying that one huh? Okay, think of the brighter picture. Instead of pinning it on Tumblr, your human mom could have made Christmas cards out of that picture. 🙂 You gotta see the good in that, right? I say go for it and think positive. It could always be worse – really it could.
.

Dear Bacon,
I’m not really eating my dad. I’m waiting for him to give me some positive reinforcement. You don’t believe me? You see, I watched a special documentary on National Geographic this past weekend. Lion fathers let their children do this to them and in return the dads scream like they are being hurt. This teaches the young on what to do. I was just testing this theory. I guess it doesn’t work on pooches. You think? Signed Toughie
Dear Toughie,
No my friend. I don’t think it works on your kind. But you know what? I think you look so cute and adorable. Really I do 🙂
.
Dear Bacon,
I.am.so.done with this weather. I live in Georgia for Pete’s sake. It’s not suppose to snow here. And this year, it seems like Mother Nature is trying to make up for it. I’m so ready to hit the water and do what I do best – bask in the sun and fish. Are you with me? Signed Captain Sulley
Dear Captain Sulley,
Snorts. I know you in real life my friend. I’m game for ‘basking in the sun’ anytime you and your family go out. I’m just …. tapping my hoof… waiting for my invitation. And of course by invitation I mean to bask in the sun not for the main meal – snorts. Carry on my friend and have fun!!
