National Dog Day

Journalist Rocky the Squirrel here –

Keeping my paws on the nuts of the world!

What a great day to celebrate – National Dog Day!  Today’s celebration has two goals:  * To honor our glorious friends the dogs AND * To rescue dogs from homeless shelters and abuse

Dogs are loyal and great companions to so many people.  They give us unquestionable love and are always there to cheer you up.  They offer free kisses (like Houdini here at the Hotel Thompson).  Humans and other anipals count on them in so many different ways.  There are dogs that are pets.  There are dogs that are working dogs – like those that help lead the blind and help in search and rescue.  Regardless of what type of dog you are, most humans count you as family.

Today, let’s celebrate the dog in your family.  If you don’t have a dog in your family, visit a friend that has one.  Or for that matter, why don’t you visit a shelter and visit with a dog there… maybe even take one home with you 🙂

Saturday Treat

20120827-100109.jpg

Saturday is usually a good day for me.  Saturday is the day that if mom is going to go to the market, it happens this day.  She went this weekend.  She *always* brings me back something good to eat.  This week was no different.

Her and dad bring all of these grocery bags into the kitchen.  I get to watch as they put everything up.  After everything is put away, mom usually takes my things and cuts everything up.  This is where me, the sous chef, comes in to play 🙂  She will give me tasty little morsels to try.  And trust me, they are so good!

After she cuts everything up (usually carrots, celery, watermelon or some other fruit and my salad mix), she will fix me a bowl as a snack.  Today’s menu consisted of grapes, Goldfish and watermelon rind.  Good thing mom’s dad doesn’t have a garden anymore.  I would be in hog heaven!

Mom and dad let me eat on my food carpet in the front room. So in this picture don’t fear the “dirty carpet”, it’s my feed placemat.  They pick it up and wash it every week.  As you can see, I am chomping down on that watermelon rind.  Mom took this picture of me in mid chomp.  I usually will eat what I like the most first.  Of course, it was the rind.  I couldn’t get enough of it.  You bite into it and the watermelon juice actually squirts inside of your mouth.  That’s my favorite part.

I guess you can say I’m a little spoiled.  Not a lot – just a little.  What do you think?

National Watermelon Day

Journalist Rocky the Squirrel here –

Keeping my paws on the nuts of the world!

August 3rd is a grand and awesome day for that little pig called Bacon. It is National Watermelon Day. Heck yeah this big ole fruit deserves an entire day all to itself. Watermelon is 90% water but 100% goodness. Do you know that little oinker here loves his watermelon – rind, juice and ALL!  I’m attaching some pictures for your amusement of a watermelon bash he had not too long ago where watermelon went flying everywhere!  I think it took Bacon’s mom several hours to clean up the mess but she said it was well worth it to make some memories and have fun with the Bacon.  Way to go mom!

Go out today and enjoy you some watermelon!  Make some memories and have a blast.

HA – I Finally Found *The* Answer

There I was minding my own business surfing the night to find the answers to all the questions.  That’s when I saw this picture.  There you go my friends.  That’s the answer.  What?  You don’t know what I’m talking about?  Okay think about it.  Go back in time when you were in school and you had that math class that asked the answer.  If Juan had watermelons, how many could he fit in the car.  Snorts with piggy laughter.  Now you get it?

Dear Bacon

20130319-111324.jpgDear Bacon – I need some help.  I experience a lot of road rage when I’m driving these days.  Any suggestions?  Signed Mad Cat

Dear Mad Cat – First of all let’s just start with, what the heck are you thinking?  Step away from the back of the wheel.  That might be the problem in itself.  You should not be driving my furry little animal.  Leave that crazy behavior to the humans.

Step away!

20130319-111337.jpgDear Bacon – Just to show you, you’re not the only little four legged animal to be surfing the net.  I’m forever doing it myself while the missus sits on the couch behind me watching television.  Man, we can learn a lot from that internet, can’t we?  Signed Dog in Charge

Dear Dog in Charge – You got that right my friend.  The internet is huge.  Some of the things I find are unreal!  I’m glad to see you computer savvy.  I may have to get you to write an article for my blog!

20130319-111438.jpgDear Bacon – The humans – they are so funny… well they think they are.  The master put this watermelon on my head and then called me a melon head.  I don’t get it.  Do you?  Signed Melon Head

Dear Melon Head – I don’t get the saying but I do get the watermelon.  I love me some watermelon.  They can put it on my little head but it won’t stay there that long.  I will eat that watermelon rind in about 3 minutes flat!

Yum – Yum!

20130319-111502.jpgDear Bacon – As you know, when we find that comfy spot – we go for it.  This is how the master found me.  But I was good.   Really, I was.  Signed Contortionist Pooch

Dear Contortionist Pooch – WOW – that is quite the pretzel sleep look you got going there.  I’m all about getting into that one position that makes the Sandman come but that takes the top spot.  I don’t really have that kind of flexibility with you know my pot belly and everything.

You actually might have a career in the circus with the way that you can bend.  It kind of makes me hurt just looking at that position.

20130319-111535.jpgDear Bacon – You know how they say people wear their hearts on their sleeves?  Well, I wear mine on my hind quarters.  What do you think?  Signed Love

Dear Love – I have to admit I snorted and giggled.  That was funny my friend.  That is quite the birthmark you have there.  I think it’s kind of cute.  I like it my friend!  Wear it with pride.

Happy Birthday Bacon!

Hey Bacon’s friends.  This is Bacon’s mom and dad here.  We are hi-jacking the little guy’s blog this afternoon for an important announcement.  Today is also our pig-son’s birthday.  Our baby Bacon turns the big 6 today!  Can you believe he was born on our anniversary?  Just one more little sign that his adoption was meant to be with us.

HAPPY BIRTHDAY BACON!

Bacon has brought so much joy here at the Hotel Thompson.  When I tell you there is *never* a dull moment, that is certainly the truth.  Bacon is like the little child we never had.  He’s very smart – as you all know from him writing his blog here – cough cough.  It doesn’t matter what kind of day you’ve had, how much stress you encounter in the world – he is always here waiting for you with a snort and oink.  I’m not sure what me or Jim would do without Bacon and our other ‘children’: Houdini, Hemi and Mouse Girl in our lives. They bless us beyond our imagination.

So today, we raise our glass with you our friends to send out a huge HAPPY BIRTHDAY to the best pig-son we could ever have.  And here’s to years and years of more happiness and adventures!  Help us out our friends in wishing Bacon the best of all birthdays!

Bacon – may all your dreams come true.  May you have more delights today than ever before.  We love you our boy!

And thanks to my bro across the pond – Phenny – for these awesome presents.  That card was almost as big as me!  I loved it.  Thanks bro ❤

Prep Night for Food

At night, I run around the house when mom gets home from the worky place.  Last night was an exceptional fun time.  After dinner and washing the dishes, mom prepped my food for the next two weeks.  This is *always* a fun time for me.  I get to be her sous chef while she works with my food. 🙂  You don’t want to miss this quality mommy piggy time!

She starts off washing my seedless grapes.  Those things are sinfully delicious.  She pats them dry and sometimes one or two may fall on the floor right in front of me.  Funny how that happens.  She pulls all of the magnificent grapes off of their stems, puts them in one of my containers and puts it in the magical food box.  Last night, one of them rolled under the kitchen table.  Mom was laughing because all she could see was my little butt shaking in the air trying to go for the grape.  I’m glad I was such amusement for her.

Then mom preps my carrots.  Mom says that I *must* have been a bunny in a former life because I LOVE my carrots.  They are also scrumptious.  She cuts all of them in tiny matchbox sticks and puts them in my giant ziplock baggie.  Of course, I get to try some, you know for quality purposes.  These also go in the magical food box.

Then mom does my salad mix.  I’ve never seen such huge heads of lettuce before.  She cuts it all up in tiny bite size pieces and puts it in two of my giant ziplock bags.  And, of course, for quality purposes I get to try some.  I have to make sure that it tastes good, right?  Again, this goes in the magic food box.

Lastly, mom fixes my favorite… okay all of them are my favorites.  My favorite though is the personal size watermelon.  Thud.  I really do love me some watermelon – from the juice, the melon and the rind.  They are divine.  She cuts all of my melon up, including the rind, and puts it in two of my canisters.  I of course get to try it… for quality assurance.  I did see dad in there last night trying it as well for quality assurance.  See, everyone wins during prep night.  She puts this in the big magic food box and she’s done for the next two weeks.

Of course, I eat other things as well but these are all snack and supplements to my piggy chow.  There is the occasional apple mom cuts up for me.  And then there is popcorn night!  Who doesn’t like popcorn night?  I can hear that corn popping on the stove all the way in my bedroom.  I’ll come running down the hall to get to the kitchen on popcorn night.

After all of this quality assurance during prep night, I disappeared while mom was cleaning the kitchen.  She finally found me though.  I was curled up hiding in my blankie on the couch. My belly was so nice and warm… and full.
