Don’t Come Knocking On My Door

Today for my afternoon nap, dad tucked me in bed with some celery and carrots and I watched The Three Little Pigs on my flatscreen.  I know it’s old school from the 1930’s but I love Mr. Disney and his movies.  This is like the upteenth time I’ve seen movie and I have some thoughts.

Let’s talk about the pig names first.  Practical Pig, Fiddler Pig and Fifer Pig.  Really?   Did you know that they even had names?  Couldn’t come up with something unique like Bacon, huh?  Ham, Sushi and Maxwell were taken?

So Fiddler Pig plays the fiddle and Fifer Pig plays the flute.  – puts my hoove to my head – how original.  They went the cheap way and made their houses of straw and sticks.  They did it quickly so they could play their lovely musical instruments all day long.  What a party that must have been!

Then let’s discuss something that’s kind of ironical.  Did anyone else notice this scene in the movie?  Do you see “Father” in the photograph on the wall?  Really?  Mr. Disney bravo to you for having such a wicked sense of humor.  Goodness, it took me almost 3 times watching to catch this.  I asked mom what did it mean?  Was that their father?  I didn’t quite understand.  Mom said that when I got older she would explain.  Translation – it’s something bad.

Leave it to Practical Pig to build his house of brick.  He tried to warn his two little brothers who wanted to play all day but they didn’t listen.  They went on with their little jamboree while Practical Pig spent the extra money and time and built for the future not for the moment. Then enter the big bad wolf.  Practical Pig tried to warn Fiddler and Fifer Pig but they didn’t want to listen.  That big bad wolf puffed and huffed and blew the house of sticks and house of straw down.  What did the brothers do?  Run to brother’s house to have him save them.  Of course, Practical Pig *always* has an exit plan.  Big Bad Wolf didn’t want to listen and tried his best to get in the house finally thinking he had a way through the fireplace.  I bet he was surprised when he dropped in for dinner and HE was the dinner!

So bottom line on this story.  Apparently this big bad wolf didn’t meet my ancestors – PigBrutus, PigSpartacus and PigDynomite. They don’t put up with much bull from anyone. They learned from great, great, great, great Uncle PiggyJohnWayne.

So, do you see the story in a different light now?  Do you understand my thoughts?  What are your views?

WaltLife Monthly Subscription

Oh my friends – have I got something to share with you.  Everyone knows what a huge Disney fan my mom is, right?  Well I found something that would absolutely tickle my mom’s fancy.  WaltLife.  You are probably asking yourself what this WaltLife is all about.  Well, let me tell you.  You can sign yourself or a loved one up to receive a monthly box from WaltLife.  It works kind of like Bark Box for Houdini or KitNipBox for Hemi.  Don’t worry about this piggy.  I also have a monthly subscription.  It’s called Nana – snorts and rolls with piggy laughter.

But back to WaltLife.  You can get monthly subscriptions where a different box is sent every month.  There are three tiers with this that range $20 to $48.  There are also boxes that you can get for a one time delivery.  It’s pretty cool just to check them out for sure.

Well you know me.  I saw this WaltLife and just knew my mom would absolutely love to get a box.  But here was the problem.  I couldn’t get dad’s credit card… you know since the last fiasco where I so called ‘borrowed’ his credit card and made some purchases.  Shaking my piggy head.  Hey I needed those items for my room daddy.  I really did.  And plus mom was fixing to have surgery.  I know she would love to have something to brighten her day.  So I did what any other pigson would do.  I sent the company an email explaining my situation.  And guess what happened?  They sent mom a free box to see what she thought.

The box came in the mail all wrapped up ‘special delivery’ from WaltLife.  Needless to say when mom got her special delivery, she was over the moon!  She hurriedly opened it up and found Finding Nemo – Dory, Hank, Elsa from Frozen.  There was a fan, Uno cards, a brush, a cute little bag, a drink cup – it was fun all wrapped up in a cute little treasure box.

Of course mom was over the moon and quickly gave me piggy kisses to thank me.  She was so excited about her box.  Now we were given this box in exchange for a review.  What did mom think honestly?  She loved the idea of getting a monthly box from WaltLife.  She loved her items.  If she had to change anything, it would be nice pick your top three Disney characters and let one of them be what you get every month instead of the random character box.  That is the only negative thing mom would say.

Happy Birthday!

Today has been an important date all around – especially here at the Hotel Thompson!  You do realize what a huge fanatic my mom is about the mouse that wears the white gloves?  I mean, it’s bad enough that there are Mickey Mouse shapes across the facial boards of the Hotel Thompson… let alone the mouse is somehow someway in every room… and mom even has a tattoo of the fellow – shocker huh?  I think you can say that she’s serious about Mickey.

Can you believe that November 18, 1928, Mickey Mouse made his debut into entertainment.  He wasn’t originally known as Mickey Mouse.  Did you know that?  His first mark into history came in Steamboat Willie as Mortimer Mouse.  They changed his name shortly thereafter – good thing too, huh?

In 1929, they came out with a short called The Opry House.  This is when the mouse got his famous white gloves for his outfit.

.

.

And, did you know that Walt Disney himself did the voice of Mickey Mouse up until 1946?

And, the most important thing I found that I *know* mom is going to have a fit about.. there’s actually a Mickey Mouse cocktail.  It’s made with tomato juice, lemon juice, Worcestershire sauce, Tabasco and a lime wedge.  I guess it could be a grown up version by adding Vodka.

So, let’s all wish mom’s little idol a Happy Birthday!!

Let’s Take A Quiz – Since mom loves the mouse so much, I’m going to give you three statements.  Tell me if each one is true or false – how many can you get right about mom and her beloved mouse?

(1)  Mom has a tattoo of Mickey Mouse on her body.

(2)  Mom’s family name is Mortimer.

(3)  Someone close to mom was born the same year Mickey Mouse was in 1928.

The Last Clue

Okay friends – here we go with the LAST clue of who my parents are meeting and where.  Put on your thinking hats.  The first person to answer correctly on WHO and WHERE will receive a badge that was so kindly created by the friends we are meeting.  And let me tell you something – it’s a beauty! A keeper to be so proudly displayed on your blog for all of the world to see.

Now – there have been clues such as:  banjo music; a different time zone and even possum in a can with gravy – yum huh?

Now, let’s think of WHO we are meeting. Let’s give a few hints as to who they are shall we.  Another couple.  A lot of fellow bloggers know them as well.  Let’s think beavers – gnaw gnaw.  Let’s think we are from the south and they are from the north.  And the biggest clue is from Walt Disney himself, “We are Siamese if you please.”

Now on to WHERE we are meeting.  Here in the south.  Someplace that loves the banjo music.  Someplace that is redneck.  Someplace that is nicknamed the Rocket City. Someplace that has lots of “Space” activity.

There you go my friends.  The clues have been given.  We need you to take the challenge now.  The first correct answer of WHO and WHERE we are meeting wins the badge.  AND the meeting is happening soon.  That’s all we will say – soon.  And of course, there will be pictures galore taken of everything imaginable.  So GO

Mickey Mouse

I admit that I’m intrigued with Mickey Mouse. The little magical rodent that wears the white gloves seems to make mommy smile and therefore that makes me happy. I do admit that she goes over board at times. I’m not saying all of the time – but there have been a few times that I’ve had to second guess her decisions.  You’re probably asking yourself what I mean by that statement.  Let me show you a few examples to clarify what I mean.

A good example –

20130806-111423.jpgMommy bought stock in the Walt Disney Company.  This was definitely a great example of something good.  She bought in cheap and it has been religiously going up every since.  She even gets a dividend check every December.  The check is not much by any means but at least she’s getting a check and not paying anything out, right?

She has her stock certificate all nicely bounded and framed.  It’s hanging in her office behind her desk. A lot of people inquire about it and make comments.  No one is shocked because well it’s Disney.

.

20130806-112126.jpg

In the frame on the bottom, is a small plaque that daddy had made special.  Can you read it in the picture to the right here?  Sweet huh?

Mom also has a big thing on the Seven Dwarfs.  A little tidbit for you – mom has all Seven Dwarfs here at the Hotel Thompson.  They are about 3.5 feet tall each.

That is definitely a story for another time.  That’s my mommy – Disney crazy.  Of course, daddy just says she is keeping her stock going up in value.

Another good decision –

20130807-075041.jpg

Mommy went to the store one time and found Mickey Mouse shaped cheese.  Now this is awesome and I agree with it wholeheartedly.  It’s fun to eat.  I prefer to eat the ears first and work my way down.  I know – it’s sick but I like it.  One time, she also found Mickey Mouse shaped hamburger patties.  I bet that was hard for the cows to make huh?  But they were fun too, especially with the little wedges of cheese.  And when she fixed hamburgers with the beef and cheese, she cut her bread with the Mickey Mouse bread cutter.  That was a fun night for dinner.

Now, a bad decision –

20130806-111436.jpg

If you’ve read my blog in the past, you might have heard me mention that mommy has a tattoo.  First of all, you have to know mommy.  She is as straight-laced as they come.  When people find out she has a tat, they are amazed.  Heck, I know I was when I first saw it.  WOW mom – you went all out there huh?

I agree it’s different and does show her love towards the mouse.  Every tattoo has some meaning and hers does as well.  And it’s some place where the normal person would not see it unless mommy wanted them too.

So there you go, good decisions vs bad decisions.  I’m not saying mommy’s tattoo is a bad decision.  It was strictly up to her and I do somewhat find it fascinating.  I think it’s the brilliant colors.  Even though she has had it for years, the color is still so bright.  I was able to snap this picture the other day when she came out of the shower.  It is totally mom.  And with knowing mommy has a tattoo, snorts – there’s not much she can say when I come home with my very own tat. 🙂

Hope you had fun with my posting.  Have you ever made good decisions vs bad decisions?

XOXO – Bacon
