Travels in the South

Let me start by saying that this posting has LOTS of food in it with pictures.  You know my mom and dad – they are professional eaters.  They get into trouble every possible way.  They called a field trip this past weekend.  There is a restaurant about 30 minutes away called The Vortex Bar and Grill in an area called Little Five Points.   They say it’s awesome.  First off, it’s a bar and most of the workers have tattoos and no one under the age of 18 can come into the restaurant.  I guess that leaves me out since I’m just over two – snorts.

20140414-101402.jpg This is daddy posing outside of the entrance to the location.  I know I’ve talked about this restaurant before but I’m not sure if I’ve posted pictures of the awesome food – which mom and dad say is awesome…. shuffles hooves… I wouldn’t know because someone didn’t bring me home a piggy bag.

Like I was saying, the front of the building near the entrance has the huge skull that you walk through.  Scary looking huh?  You can see the name of the restaurant on the side to the right of dad’s head.  NOTE: Someone told mommy that it looks like daddy has rabbit ears over his head from the jaw line of the skull.  Snorts – I think it does too.  You?

The day that mom/dad went, there was no line.  Usually the line is out the door.  Inside of the location, it’s dark and cozy.  Mom and dad say the inside is rather small so the tables are tight.  You make friends really quick – snorts.

They started off with a Mighty Meaty Chili.  This is how the menu describes the chili – menu wording not mine – just remember that :

Made with ground sirloin, chipotle & habanero peppers and a secret combination of seasonings but no beans ’cause it’s MEATY.  It’s definitely got some heat to it so please don’t order if you’re a big pussy”

Yep, that’s what it says.  The picture to the left is of the cornbread that comes with the chili.  Daddy says you really needed that because the chili was H.H.O.O.T.T.  Thank goodness mom and dad split a bowl – snorts.

Mom and dad followed the spicy chili up with an appetizer of Cheddar Balls O’Glory.  That’s what I’m talking about – cheese balls.  Licks piggy lips.  And of course, I’m going to tell you the wording off the menu… why?  Because it’s so interesting 🙂

A plate full of beer-battered, deep fried balls of cheddar cheese, served with jalapeno ranch dressing.  These are by far the tastiest balls you’ll ever put in your mouth.  You know you want some, so just bite our cheesy balls”.

Now with all of this wonderful food so far, you know the main meals have to be out of this world!  And yeah, mom and dad wanted to sample a lot.

20140414-101431.jpg

Dad ordered what they called a Meat Packer Melt –

“A sirloin patty topped with sliced turkey, ham, American, Swiss and cheddar cheese all griddled together on swirled rye bread.  This is the best patty melt you have ever put in your mouth.”

Dad says this was the bomb!  It was deliciously served with tater tots – one of his favorites.  The last time he came here, he ordered the Double Coronary Bypass and trust me – he almost had one!  He had plenty of leftovers that time.  This is what it is:

“One big half pound sirloin patty topped with two fried eggs, six slices of American cheese and eight slices of bacon served between two grilled cheese sandwiches that we use in place of the regular hamburger buns.”

20140414-101438.jpgAnd mom, we can’t leave mommy out.  She went grandstand too.  She got the Cubano De Libertad.

“A fresh baked roll filled with slow roasted pork, ham, Swiss cheese, sliced pickles and spicy mustard grilled flat and drenched in Mojo sauce.”

Okay – let me add that this little oinker was not harmed in the making of mom’s lunch.  See, that’s how she does me.  She runs off and eats pork.  Shakes my piggy head. At least she didn’t order the sandwich they call, “Three Little Pigs”… I don’t even want to know what’s on that one – Snorts.

So, that’s my wild humans.  If you want to see more of the menu, look here at Vortex.  It is by far great reading, mouth watering and delicious sounding.  You gotta check it out if you get a chance.  Happy Eats!

Mom/Dad You Have Some Explaining To Do

If you don’t know much about anything else about me by this point, you have to know that my humans are strange… unpredictable if you will. They are *always* getting into some type of trouble.  They are always going out and about unchaperoned.  And there is no telling what chaos they cause anywhere they go.  You don’t believe me still?

Let’s take a look at example 1 to the left here.   Okay let’s assume I was snooping and found this on mom’s iPhone under pictures.  What?  I didn’t say that I did it.  I said just assume… looks innocent.  Let’s get back to the point shall we.  Tell me this my friends.  Have you ever been in a restaurant where there was such ‘stuff’ hanging around?  I mean is it me or a skull riding a motorcycle kind of eccentric or pushing the envelope just a bit?  Let alone mom/dad told me that this place was adults only and you had to be 21 years of age to enter and eat.  Now I understand why.  This restaurant is called the Vortex Bar and Grill and mom even did a blog about it on her food blog here.  It has great food… not that this oinker got a piggy bag to go or anything.  Snorts – way to go mom/dad.

When I saw this picture above, I was like cool a skull.  Then I looked further and longer at the picture.  Then I was like – what the pig is that?!  And more importantly – why is it hanging on the wall wearing Mardi Gras beads?  What the heck did it do to get those beads?  Of course seeing one of my ancestors ‘mounted’ on a wall got me squealing to the high heavens above and mom had to come to my bedroom to see what the problem was.  I mean heck, it’s not every day you see this, right?

Mom saw what I was squealing about and sat down on my toddler bed with me for ‘a talk’.  First up was the talk about not snooping… hey I said assume but I guess I just got busted huh?  Mom mentioned something about privacy and some things I shouldn’t see – blah blah blah – and sometimes things seen or heard can not be now unseen or unheard – blah blah blah.

Okay mom got it.  Please explain why one of my ancestors is on the wall wearing beads.  Honestly, she didn’t know why but she explained to me that this animal was called a boar.  There are several different classes of boars and mostly run wild.  We are related through the ancestry leaves.  He is kind of a mascot of sorts at this restaurant.  Okay that’s cool.  He lives on in fame still kind of smiling if you look at the grin on his face.  I wonder if that is because of the lack of somewhat clothing the waitresses wear in this alternative bar?  Or is because of the different people he sees throughout the day from lawyers to bikers?  But I still have to ask. Why is he wearing beads?  What do you think is the story behind that my friends?  You know this piggy has an inquiring mind.

Oh Dear – My Parents Are At It Again!

Let me start by saying that this posting has LOTS of food in it with pictures.  You know my mom and dad – they are professional eaters.  They get into trouble every possible way.  They called a field trip this past weekend.  They jumped in Albert, mom’s Smart car and off they went.

Vortex Therapy

Mom/dad are forever going out to restaurants. There is a particular one called the Vortex that has awesome hamburgers – well, that’s what dad says anyway. This little piggy wouldn’t know… stomping piggy hooves.

This is an actual matchbook that they have at the Vortex. For some reason, I found it totally hilarious. I told mom/dad that too.

 20130610-182729.jpg

They said if I thought this was funny then they had to show me the actual entrance to the restaurant. Now, that is funny! It kind of scares you but kind of intrigues you. You know what I mean. What do you think? Would you enter the unknown into this restaurant?

It does look intimidating but they do say the food is awesome! This is the entrance to the Vortex at Little Five Points in Georgia. I do believe it’s a really creative entrance. You?
