Journey with Friends – Week 49

Welcome my friends to our weekly issue of Journey with Friends.  This is a time that we come together for support, for encouragement, for fellowship – all with one single goal in mind – to live better.  Welcome to our journey to share our goals and our accomplishments and our disappointments and frustrations.

Together we can do this!

Sunday, December 3, 2017 –  Finally a day of rest.  I don’t think much moving was done by me, Jim or the anipals here at the Hotel Thompson.  We slept and rested which is exactly what I needed!  Miles Moved: -0-

Monday, December 4, 2017 –  Back into the grind of things.  It’s already the beginning of December!  There is so much to do but this year I feel we will be taking things easy and light.  I don’t have the stamina to be crawling around putting up decorations and it’s just me and Jim.  This year having this surgery was our gift to each other.  Having the lumps gone and being here for each other.  What else could we ask for, right?  Miles Moved: 0.95

Tuesday, December 5, 2017 –  Working on a surprise for Jim for next week.  Do you know how hard it is to work on surprises for that man?  Do you have one in your life that can almost guess every.single.time what you might be doing?  The boy has a sixth sense for some things.  But what he *thinks* and what happens could be two different things.  My sister is in cahoots with me.  You know this can’t end well – snickers.   Miles Moved: 1.21

Wednesday, December 6, 2017 –  So much to get done this weekend and it’s only Wednesday!  My list is getting longer and the days are getting shorter.  What’s a girl to do?  Maybe I can start training Bacon and Houdini to help out with errands?  That should be interesting for sure.  Miles Moved: 0.93

Thursday, December 7, 2017 –  Today was a hiccup.  I’ve had one spot under my left breast that has been bothering me.  I just don’t like the looks of it.  I called the doctors office last week and they told me it was a ‘spitting stitch’.  It still bothers me today so I called the doctors office and sent him a picture via text.   Of course he wanted me to come in to look more closely at it and to check a few things.  Of course I got worried when he pulled out scissors and tweezers.  Can you say ouch?  Remember to check out my other blog here for details of this situation.   Miles Moved: 1.13

Friday, December 8, 2017 – Friday I love you so much!  Thank goodness we made it to you.  Now to get finished at work and start some errands!   Miles Moved: 0.93

Saturday, December 9, 2017 –  Work up feeling a little under the weather.  I guess the doctor ‘operating’ on me Thursday finally caught up to me and I was aching a bit today.  And on top of everything else, we got snow this morning.  Okay it was SNOW to us…we freak out with one snowflake – LOL.  But today needs to go on.  Houdini has a spa appointment and then he is off to see Santa.  Be afraid Santa.  There is no telling what he will ask for this year for Christmas.  Miles Moved: 0.65

Thoughts for the week:  Baby steps.  Life is not a race.  We all get to where we want in the end.  That’s my motto for my recovery.  This Wednesday 12/13/2017 will be 5 weeks.  Some days I feel like it’s been FIVE WEEKS.  Some days I feel like it’s a rush of time.  Recovery is slow but I’m so happy with my results so far.  And believe it or not, I’m itching to get back into my workout routine in January.  January is a new year all around for me.  Have a great week my friends ❤

This week walked: 5.80

TOTAL 2017 Miles:  523.56

Journey with Friends – Week 47

Welcome my friends to our weekly issue of Journey with Friends.  This is a time that we come together for support, for encouragement, for fellowship – all with one single goal in mind – to live better.  Welcome to our journey to share our goals and our accomplishments and our disappointments and frustrations.

Together we can do this!

Hey sweet friends.  I am feeling so much better this week – YAY!  I actually might survive this surgery.  It has definitely been a most difficult 2.5 weeks from surgery.  There were plenty of ups and downs, lots of pain and lots of amazing moments.  I’m actually able to do more now.  I still can’t bend over, raise my arms to high or lift anything – not even Houdini – but it’s getting better each and every day.  I’m also staying up full days.  Trust me, I took LOTS of naps during the past couple of weeks.  Resting/sleeping means healing and we want that.

It definitely was a huge surgery.  They were able to remove the three lumps in question (two on the left side/one on the right side).  Those were sent to the lab for testing and came back no cancer – double YAY!  In the big scheme of things, they removed a total of 5.5 pounds.  That was 3.5 pounds from the left side (the worse side) and 2 pounds from the right.  Healing is processing.  The left side got a huge hit but it’s looking good.  I guess you can say literally I’m a work in process.

I to say thank you to all you my friends for the letters, emails, phone calls and guidance during this time.  I expected pain and recovery but it seemed like a got a big dose of it especially the first week.  Your thoughts, prayers and kind words really meant a lot to us here at the Hotel Thompson.  We ❤ you!

I did some updates on my surgery blog if you would like to read about them – here.

By The Time You Read This…

By the time you read this my friends, mom will be in surgery.  They estimate that surgery will last 4 to 4.5 hours.  We would appreciate any prayers and well wishes you can send this way.  Mom will be home hopefully later this afternoon.  We will try to let you know something tomorrow on her condition.  Thanks sweet friends ❤

Update on Renovation

Just an update my friends on the renovation hell project here at the Hotel Thompson.  Today marks 11 more days until completion.  I say GET IT DONE ALREADY – snorts.  No really, mom/dad worked on decluttering and purging *all* weekend long.  I have to say, those two put some elbow grease into the destruction remodeling. What do they say, “It always looks the worse before it gets better.”  I sincerely hope so.

This weekend they worked on the closet of the known. You know that closet my friends. The one that you don’t dare open in fear of everything falling out on top of you.  It was three hours of “oh look what I found” – snorts.  Among the things that were found were:

2 boxes of clothes that mom brought to the house when she moved in 16 years ago! 😳

2 deep sea fishing rods and reels – Moby Dick you are safe.

Moms high top Mickey Mouse sneakers from high school.

Dads stereo equipment.

Moms pearls that went missing a couple of years back. Don’t ask how they got into the closet. God only knows.

Mom/dad worked hard on that closet and the rest of the cleaning this weekend. I’m glad to report that after many trips to Goodwill to drop off donations and many bags of trash later, the house is coming together. There was a couple of added things to be done during this renovation and I’ll keep you posted. As it stands right now, the time table still looks good.

Valentine’s Day Aftermath – a Note From My Daddy

I hope everyone had a wonderful weekend with Valentine’s Day.  This afternoon I want to talk about great times with the big day of LOVE.  Think over the years – or if it was this past weekend – to your most memorable Valentine’s day.  What happened?  Today is the day to share and tell me about it.

I asked my mom and dad the same question.  They reminisced about all of the happy Valentine’s Days they have had.  There were many, MANY to pick from but mom and dad picked one that really meant a lot to them both.

They said years and years ago in a time way before they were married and they were still dating.  Daddy was working at the hospital on night shift 3pm-11pm.  Mommy was working for the school system 7am-3pm.  So during the week, they pretty much didn’t see each other physically although they did talk to each other a couple of times during the day.  And remember this was way before the cell phone era – snorts.  (I tell you my humans are older than dirt.)

So Valentine’s day fell on a Wednesday this one year and both were working.  They just knew they were not going to see each other at all.  But daddy – he is a romantic at heart that you wouldn’t believe.  He went by mom’s apartment before she went to work and put a GIANT Scooby Doo stuffed animal in the passenger seat of her car and left.  When mom came down to get in her car, (after she almost had a heart attack because she thought someone was sitting in her car) she oohhed and aawwed.  She got in the car and Scooby Doo was holding a giant heart box.  She opened the giant heart box and there was a card from daddy telling her sweet nothings, chocolate and a jewelry box.  She opened the jewelry box and it had one of the most beautiful jade necklaces that she had ever seen.  Of course she cried.  And then cried some more.  And then cried more and went to school wear she wore the beautiful jade necklace all day.

She had called daddy went she got to work and she made plans to see him at his job later that day for when he went to dinner.  So that night rolled around and mom met dad at the hospital.  Dad told mom he was taking her to a fast food restaurant called Arby’s.  Not a place they went to regularly but dad was insistent.  What she didn’t know was that dad had received information about something special Arby’s was doing that night.  That night just for Valentine’s Day, they had brought in a baby grand piano and hired a guy to play and give out roses to the patrons.  Mom cried again and said it was so romantic and thoughtful.

So there you go my friends, that’s ONE of mom and dad’s most memorable Valentine’s Day.  Now is the time for you to share one of yours – go.

UPDATE A NOTE FROM MY DADDY –

Hi everyone – Bacon’s dad here.  We would have loved to have said that this past weekend was the most memorable Valentine’s day for me and my bride.  And in a way, I guess it was.  Bacon’s mom has been fighting this awful cough since December.  The kind of cough that just makes you choke, can’t catch your breathe and she has even passed out from it once.  She went to the hospital in December and they gave her a bunch of medicines and sent her home.

Sunday IMG_1844morning when I got up, she told me she needed to go back to the emergency room. (And being a Sunday, we are very fortunate that the insurance we have has a built in ‘hospital emergency room’ right in the building.)  She was having difficulties in breathing.  We immediately went.  Once there, she got X-rays (we were totally afraid that she had gotten pneumonia) and they came back clear.  She had a breathing treatment and afterwards they put her on a fluid IV and gave her steroids directly in her IV.  They also drew a bunch of blood.  She started feeling a little bit better and didn’t cough for almost 20 minutes.  This was such fantastic news to us after she had been continuously coughing for what seemed like forever.  She got to come home after about 7 hours in the ER being looked at.  She started bruising up last night from the IV’s and where the blood pressure cuff kept coming on so often.  She looks black, blue, yellow and very sore.

Her blood work came back and lot of her numbers were low – iron, potassium, red blood count.  They gave her a bunch of medicines to get filled and start taking which she has.  She still had a really rough night last night sleeping.  Night time is the worse time for her to rest.  We are all taking care of her here at the Hotel Thompson.  I will be helping out Bacon in the next couple of days to get caught up on his blog visits.  So please don’t think we have forgotten about you – we definitely have not.

Houdini Update

IMG_0947

Oh my friends – this *you* have to see.  Little Man Houdini in his walking stroller.  It’s okay – you can roll your eyes here.  Snorts.  Mom has been telling daddy that she wanted to set Houdini a stroller.  But all that she has seen has been outrageous in prices.  But don’t worry because we all know my mommy is the shopping Queen.  She found this stroller for $20.00!  That’s right $20.00!  WIN-WIN-WIN!  If you look closer at the stroller it zips around so the little guy can’t hop out and nothing can get to him.  It also has cup holders and a hidey hole on top for keys, mom’s phone, etc.  Awesome deal huh?

Mom and Nana took Houdini for a walk the other night.  He ❤ it!  He sits in his stroller and looks around while they are walking.  Then one night, Houdini was driving mommy nuts – which I was kind of enjoying watching.  He kept trying to nip at her, jumping on her and bugging her.  Then she said, “Okay, that’s it.  Let’s go for a walk”.  It was like that was what he wanted. He immediately went to his stroller and waited for her.

Then off they went for their little walk.  It seems to wear him out.  Not that he walks but he does get the fresh air and gets to go out with mom.  I think it’s the fresh air that helps him settle down for the night.  Mom has been trying to walk him before bedtime every night.  But you gotta admit it – he does look kind of cute in that stroller doesn’t he?
