Boo! Oakland Cemetery

Today, I’m going to focus on one close to home – the historic Oakland Cemetery in Atlanta, Georgia.  Oakland Cemetery was bought in 1850 and was originally named Atlanta Graveyard or City Burial Place.  It was renamed to Oakland Cemetery in 1972.

Oakland Cemetery offers twilight tours of the cemetery – how scary huh?  And around this time of the year, the cemetery even offers what they call “Capturing the Spirit of Oakland Halloween Tours”.  What a way to catch some things that go bump in the night.  There are over 70,000 residents in over 40 acres that are just dying to meet you whether you have a guided tour or walk the cemetery by yourself… if you’re brave enough.

A lot of the history of this wonderful cemetery centers around the Civil War.  There have been stories in the Confederate portion of the cemetery of hearing names being called as if in a roll call.  But to look around, there is no one living there, just the statue of a lion guarding the unknown Confederate dead and he’s not talking.

Often the guides at the cemetery will tell you that people actually die three times.  Once on their last breath, once when they are laid to rest and once when they are no longer remembered.  Sounds just like a situation for a few people to come out and be remembered, doesn’t it?  So the next time you’re in the area, drop by for a visit.  I’ve heard they’re alway looking for a good soul to fright.

Spotlight Thursday – Meet Twilight

Spotlight Thursday

Welcome my friends to SPOTLIGHT THURSDAY.  This is the time that I will introduce you to one of my fellow anipals so you can get to know them better.  Some of them, you may already know.  We hope that you enjoy this series!

Name:  Twilight (or “Little One”) – But Shrimp calls me “Toast!”

Age:  About 7 months

Location:  Oregon, USA

Web/Blog Page:  http://cattitudechronicles.wordpress.com/  (When Shrimp’s sleeping)- but as soon as I’m old enough I’ll start my VERY OWN blog!

What were your first thoughts when you met your new parents? These people ADORE ME! They’ll feed me FOREVER! (And I told myself to be EXTRA CUTE)!

What was the defining moment when you knew you were in your forever home?  When I showed up in a thunderstorm in their backyard, wet and muddy and starving and infested with fleas and the human almost cried and took me inside immediately and gave me a warm bath and cuddled me and fed me and said “Welcome to your new home, baby!” (And Shrimp growled and the human ignored it)!

What has been your biggest “Oh no, now I’ve done it” moment so far in your home?   When I tried to cuddle up by the human in bed and Shrimp had A HISSY FIT!

Who do you have wrapped around your paws more – mom or dad – and why?  BOTH of the humans! But especially Mom because she loves how I race her to the Keurig every morning and wait for her to brew her coffee and swipe at her while she does her workouts – and when she does push-ups and Pilates, I swipe at her hair (to keep the tangles out)!  She also loves that I don’t let Shrimp’s angry glares keep me from snuggling with her!

What’s the biggest misconception that humans think about you?  That I’m just a cute little kitty – I’m actually a tiger (I work for the government undercover so they removed most of my stripes)!
😺

Hope you enjoyed meeting my friend – check back next week for another Spotlight edition!

Bullseye

Oh my friends!  We here at the Hotel Thompson have been watching a new game show on television called Bullseye.  It is hosted by Kellan Lutz – you know him from Twlight (he played Emmett Cullen) and co-hosted by Godfrey who is a comedian on the Godfrey Complex.  This show is a combination of Wipe Out and Fear Factor.

It starts with 8 contestants (4 women and 4 men).  They have to go through three challenges.  By the beginning of the third challenge, they are down to 3 contestants to go up against each other to win $50,000!  So you think it’s easy to play?

They have different challenges that I’ve seen in the past couple of weeks.  One challenge had the contestants running down a MOVING train from the caboose to the engine.  Along the ways, they were throwing off bullseye’s that were attached to the side of the train.  Then they rushed to the front of the train and jumped off to hit the big bullseye to stop the train.  Don’t worry – they were all tied so they wouldn’t fall off the train or jump to far in front of the train to stop it.  But can you imagine doing this?  The quickest one that got all of the bullseyes removed, won the $50,000.  Not bad for a days work huh?

I’ve also seen it where they are attached to a cord hanging off of a helicopter.  They are swung through the air and have to throw big bean bags towards a bullseye on the ground.  They get two attempts and the closes bean bag to the bullseye target wins.  Sound fun swinging through the air?

The show airs on the Fox channel on Wednesday nights at 9:00 PM.  Mark your calendar to watch it this week.  We highly recommend it here at the Hotel Thompson.  In fact, I think I’m going to practice hitting some bullseye targets this week… where are those purr things to help me out?  Snorts!

Weekend Over – YAY!

Sigh – oinks – snorts.  The weekend is over.  Did you have fun?  What did you do?  Me? Well, I slept a lot to get plenty of rest.  I also ate a lot.  It’s hard maintaining this beautiful pot belly physique.

Yesterday, we watched movies on television all day long.  It was the best time!

Mommy actually pulled out all of her Twilight movies – all FIVE of them for a marathon.  Daddy even watched – he lost a bet so it was mom’s choice – go mom.  You know the Twilight movies, right?  Most people go Team Edward or Team Jacob.  I think there needs to be a Team BACON – what do you think? Snorts.

It was a great LONG day full of wolves, love and vampires.  Mom even fixed popcorn – and yeah I let her take a picture of me.  This was delicious popcorn – popped on the stove the old fashioned way – yummy and smells good!

XOXO – Team Bacon

Take that Twilight

I know I talk about me a lot but let me tell you something about mom.  She’s a Twilight freak.  Not the time of day – the movie.  You know it – the vampires, wolves oh my movie.  I’m not saying that she’s read the books or seen the movies too much but she quotes the lines a lot.  She knows the characters.  And let me tell you something – she collects these figures that look like them.  She calls them her collectible Barbies.  Shakes head – I think mom has gone over board.  So, I have to have an intervention with her – snort giggles.

One of the main characters in these books is a girl called Bella.  Beautiful girl.  But, my take on Bella is so much better.  I have to pick on mom with this one.  I’m going to post and then go into hiding.  When she sees it, she’ll find me.  I’m not giving her the password to take this picture off here either.  SNORT – enjoy!
