Bashful Home and Weekend Adventures

Do you ever come off of weekend feeling more tired than you did going into the weekend?  That’s the way it seemed here this weekend at the Hotel Thompson.  Mom/dad were on the constant go – but before I snort about that, let’s talk about my Bashful.  He came home last week!  Mom came home late from work one night and found a box sitting on her doorstep. She looked at the return address and knew it was Bashful coming back from his visit with Denny and Reilly.  She came in telling me that Bashful was home!

We both dug into the box to find our little guy.  And not only was Bashful in the box but so was his friend Sweet Pea.  They have stayed up late at night and talked so much to the other pet rocks here for nights now.  There is no slowing down the rock clan.  I think they are silently putting together a party that they are going to talk to mom/dad about later.  Can you imagine that party!?  I’m kind of looking forward to it… but don’t tell anyone – that’s our secret for now okay.

But also in the box from Denny and Reilly were a couple of gifts that I have just piggy swooned over my friends.  One of them was a box of Barnum’s Animal’s crackers – limited edition.  Oh my piggy heavens.  First of all – I absolutely LOVE animal crackers.  They are up there on my top favorite three snackables and these are so cool!  I kept telling mommy, “Give it to me – give it to the piggy”.  She told me to be nice though and look at the other gift that was in the box.  It was wrapped up in paper and mommy had to unwrap it.  What was it?  What could it be?

Squeals to the high heavens – it’s a mini-me named Elvis!  Look at this cute little pig and he’s black – LIKE ME.  I couldn’t believe it.  He is so adorable!  And mommy said his name was on his neck – Elvis.  OMP!  He is a perfect addition here at the Hotel Thompson.  I told mommy to put him on our book shelves in the front yard.  He gets to sit right next to our ninja cow – don’t ask – snorts.  Isn’t he beautiful?!

Thank you so very much Denny and Reilly for hosting my Bashful, showing him the bestest of times and my gifts – I love them!

So that brings us to this weekend.  Busy, busy and more busy.  I think it was a race to see how much could mom/dad do in two days.  Really I do believe that.  They got up Saturday and went to the worky place.  Mom really wants to finish up her year end totals for 2015 and she is getting there.  Then she can start work on taxes – shaking piggy head.  I don’t think I will see mom until this Summer – snorts with piggy laughter.  After mom got done working almost a full day, they ate dinner out and went by the pharmacy.  By the time they got home, we anipals got some snuggles and hugs and then it was time for bed.  Where did Saturday go huh?

And then Sunday was just as rushed.  Mom/dad talked to Easy’s parents in France first thing.  You should have hear mommy laughing so hard with Easy’s mom.  They were having a blast of a good time.  Now, I want you to know during this time I was a perfect pig.  I slept close to mom snuggled down next to her legs behaving myself.  I can not say the same for my little brother Houdini.  Houdini does not like to share and this day was no exception.  Houdini kept attacking mom’s fingers and hands trying to get her attention.  The only time he behaved was when daddy held him.  Then Houdini would hear mom and Easy’s mom voice and want to go at mom again.  It was hilarious!

After the phone call, mom went to give plasma at the clinic (#14 donation if I say – she committed to 20).  Afterwards, mom/dad went for lunch.  Once they were nicely full, they went grocery shopping.  Snorts – what a perfect time huh?  You are so full that you just want to get what you need and leave.  But I’m glad to report that mom had almost $30.00 in coupons.  Yay huh?

So you see, by the time they did all of this, where did the weekend go?  I demand a repeat without any errands or work.  What do you think?  How was your weekend my friends?

Guess Who Came Home?!

Bashful, Chip, Willow and Sky!

I have missed my boys, Bashful and Chip, so very much for the last couple of weeks.  Thank goodness Chip didn’t have any accidents and both behaved themselves while they were visiting our friends Kali and Sholo – the Canadian Cats – in Canada.  They came home a couple of days ago in a box that mom got from the mailbox.  We could hear the party going on in the box and we were all trying our best to open the box.  With mom’s arthritis and dad’s vision problems, we called in back-up in the forms of myself and Houdini.  Eventually, the box was opened. Bashful and Chip jumped out and started talking and giving rockhugs. Then, Willow and Sky were persuaded out of the box.

All of the rock clan were lined up to meet them with hellos and hugs. Everyone was so excited.  They were hungry and thirsty so mom fixed them some Rock Candy and water.  While they ate and drunk, they told us about their adventures in Canada.  Willow and Sky opened up about their lives and what they wanted to do with their future.  Mom explained that Atlanta was not too far away from the Hotel Thompson and there were so many schools for herbalists there that she would look into for Sky’s further training.  Willow and Chip started yawning by this time so I thought it was safe to tuck the little tykes into bed – because you know here in the south, “There’s always tomorrow”.

While mom/dad put the rocks to bed, I looked at the rest of the contents in the box reading a card from Shoko, Kali and their humans.  What a fun time they had!

Look at all of these goodies they sent back home – bandannas, purr thing toys, a card holder, postcards on how to mail a moose (awesome!!) and a bear bell.  Let me tell you my friends Kali and Shoko –

THANK YOU SO VERY MUCH!

I’ve been looking for a bell that was big enough yet sturdy enough to put on my friendly Bigfoot in my backyard.  He has been sneaking around in my backyard at night after everyone goes to bed.  He’s been scaring the pee-pee out of me for sure!

.

So here we go my friends.  Where in the world will Bashful end up next?  Any guesses?

The BIG Announcement

It has been so totally busy here lately at the Hotel Thompson.  We had the demolition and renovation.  We had the cleaning and cleaning and more cleaning from all of that.  We had new furniture and everything has been out of place – and we are *still* putting things back together.  Mommy really pushed herself too much during all of this time.  And THEN Bashful came home from his visit with Fozzie in Australia.  That’s when all hell broke loose.  Yep I said hell.  HELL broke loose here at the Hotel Thompson.  You don’t believe me do you?  Okay I’ll tell you.

Do you remember the first time Bashful went to Australia to spend some time with Fozzie and her anipals way back in December 2013?  You can read about some of that trip here.  I’m talking specifically about that trip when he made a movie called Rockodile Dundee co-starring Bimby.  Let’s just say that we thought some things got out of control with that bimbo – I mean co-star Bimby.

Well upon Bashful’s return trip to Australia in December 2014, he had some problems to take care of in the deepest forms.  You see, Bimby was pregnant after the making of the Rockodile Dundee movie.  Shocker huh?  Well she carried the baby for nine months and when Bashful returned to Australia, she said he was the rock daddy.  Now you can imagine Bashful’s shock from that. BUT, can you imagine the shock of Fozzie calling me (Bashful’s daddy) and explaining (A) Bashful was now a father and (B) I was now a grandfather?!  Oh dear piggy heavens – I can tell you that was one interesting phone call to say the least.

20140112-003228.jpgNot only was Bashful a father but Bimby was in trouble.  Bimby had started hitting the bottle – hard.  And she was letting herself go not taking care of the baby.  So what to do huh?  First things first.

Bimby went into rehab.  There was long conversations about what to do and the biggest thing was to put the baby first.  Of course a rock DNA was conducted just to make sure that Bashful was the father.  The results came back and they verified 99.9% that Bashful was the father.  Then Bashful and Bimby had a long talk about the welfare of the baby.  The baby was 3 months old and Bimby decided that she didn’t want to be a mother – she was to young to settle down.  And putting the best interest of the baby first, paperwork was drawn up by the attorney’s and Bashful now has custody of his son.

So everyone here at the Hotel Thompson had to get everything ready for a new baby that would be soon arriving.  The nursery had to be set up, a pediarocktrician had to be lined up and of course everyone here had to be told what happened.  All of the rock clan were excited to have a new baby.  And I admit it.  I was rather excited to be a grandfather and to see my grandchild.  What would he look like?  What was his name?  Would he resemble us?  A lot of things were going through our minds.

Then the little tyke arrived here at the Hotel Thompson.  Oh my piggy heavens!  It was love at first sight with all of us.  The ooh’s and aaawws.  WOW!  So without further ado, let me introduce you to Chip.  Look at him!  How could we ever doubt his DNA?   He is quite the chip off the old block – you think?

Pay it Forward

Okay Friends – Here We Go!

My sweet friends at Nikitaland have started this monthly issue of Pay It Forward.  We asked for you to keep this in mind all month and to share things here today on what you have been able to do.  Paying it forward is not for bragging purposes – it’s an attempt to show how many different things we can do to pay it forward – lots of them don’t even include money.  Gestures that we take for granite may be a God send to another person.  So here we go – I’ll start on what mommy has done in the past month.

Mom *always* buys breakfast for at least one person during the month in a drive thru.  This month wasn’t any different 🙂  She bought breakfast for the guy behind her in line at the drive thru and left him a pay it forward card.

Dad brought the trash cans up from the drive for us and the neighbor.

Mom left a card in the mailbox for the mail lady with a piece of chocolate once during the month as an appreciation gift.

Mom also fixed all six of her supervisors at work a treat bag for St. Patrick’s Day.  They had green shot glasses and some candy.  They were a huge hit and everyone seemed like they really enjoyed them.

AND, they were easy 🙂  All 6 shot glasses with candy wrapped in green paper cost only around $5.00

And this month mommy did something for daddy too.  She surprised him with dinner one night to a place that he really enjoys.  She took off work early, pick him up and they went off in Albert the Smart Car. She didn’t even tell him she was leaving work early that day.  It was a great surprise and daddy had an awesome time!

Thanks my friends for reading and supporting the Pay it Forward mission.  What did YOU do this month to make a difference?  Please post on your page and link back so everyone can see that it takes everyone making a small part to do a great dent!

My buddy Nikitaland made up a good deeds sheet.  You can get it here.  You can print it, hang it on your fridge and just jot some things down that you do during the month.  That way at our next meet up, you can share what you have done to PAY IT FORWARD.

AND if you are interested in getting some Pay it Forward bracelets, check out Nikitaland’s post here for ordering information.  Believe me friends – WE CAN ALL MAKE A DIFFERENCE!

Next meet up will be Friday, May 1, 2015 – mark your calendars!

The The Trip of a Lifetime :)

Oh my friends – SQUEALS.  Finally, we get a change to talk about THE trip.  You know the one where my humans ran off and left us anipals with Nana and met *my* friends and had a great weekend.  Yeah, that weekend trip – snorts and rolls with laughter.  You see my friends Kali and Shoko at The Canadian Cats sent an email to my mom asking her if her and dad wanted to meet up during their vacation.  Of course my mom jumped at the chance.  Finally the weekend came and mom shipped all of us up the street to Nana’s…. which might I add what happened at Nana’s that weekend stays at Nana’s.  🙂

So mom are coming from the Atlanta area and are using the good old GPS to get to Huntsville, Alabama.  Now daddy said that Mr. GPS took them on every pig trail to get there.  Now I kind of take offense to that.  I don’t do pig trails – I make them!

But something fascinating happened right before mom and dad took off – actually the night before.  Do you know it snowed here.  Well it didn’t here at the Hotel Thompson but up towards the mountain areas, it snowed and iced pretty bad.  See, this picture mom took from her window.  It’s icy over there on the mountain top.  And don’t worry about mom driving and using her camera.  Snorts – mom said that they got behind someone that wasn’t used to A – driving on winding, curving mountain roads and B – driving on ice.  So mom was practically stopped when she took this picture.  It was really pretty.

Mom said she should have taken a picture on dad’s side.  Why?  Because it was straight down off of the mountain!  I would have watered the back seat if I saw that.  Can you imagine?

Here’s a closer picture of the frozen ice on the mountains.  It was outrageous!  The GPS had mom and dad going through the mountains then to the left dropping in Huntsville, Alabama.  The only ice and snow mom saw really was in the mountains.  Cool huh?  Scenic route full of curves and fun.

And below is a family picture of all of them – from left to right – Bill, Jean, daddy, mommy and yeah that’s the waiter Jordan beside mommy.  Snorts!  He was a cool guy.  And in fact, mommy is doing a food blog today about the restaurant and Jordan.  So check it out here.  You won’t believe the fun they had… or the trouble they found.  And stay tuned to mom’s food blogs for the next week or two.  Mom and dad hit a lot of great restaurants to and from Alabama.

Don’t you love this picture?  Mommy has it printed out and framed on her desk here at the Hotel Thompson in her office.  I just loved it too!  Mom and dad told me so many stories about the weekend.

And look at all of these wonderful goodies that came home with mom and dad that Bill and Jean gave them.  I especially love the Pork with An Attitude shirt.  How did they know I had an attitude – snorts.  And mom says the Canadian Collection are all kinds of chocolates.  She says they are fabulous.  She took them to work and has them on her desk in her candy bowl.  Yummers!

And below these – Houdini is playing with his quack bird or is it a Canadian goose?  Snorts!  Daddy got in trouble for playing with it inside of the house.  You see you hold the tail in one hand and the beak in the other then let go.  That thing can fly!  And of course, Houdini loves it!   The other picture of Houdini is him trying to take over the purr things cat toy.  He got caught and mom was fussing at him that it belonged to Hemi and Mouse Girl.  Busted little man!  There are a few more things that I will share next week.  I know you can’t wait.  It was definitely an awesome night and thank you so much Bill and Jean for the goodies.  I do wish we were closer!!

So here we go – I’ll start on what mommy has done in the past month.

.

  • Mom did another adventure through the McDonald’s drive thru in February.  She paid for the guy’s breakfast behind her.  All he had ordered was a biscuit so mom added a drink to his order as well.  She left one of my business cards with “Pass it Forward” on it.  It *made* the guy’s day!  Later on, I got an email stating, “YOU MADE MY DAY.  Thanks for the breakfast.  I will pass it forward.”  See – little things add up to make someone’s day!
  • During the month, mom and dad try to watch out for the trash can out front once a week.  They brought back the neighbor’s can a couple of times.  In this weather, that was awesome!
  • Mom and dad went to Cracker Barrel for dinner one night.  When they were checking out, there was a small boy that was at the cash register.  He was wanting to buy a small toy – it wasn’t much.  He was so polite!  He didn’t have enough money.  Mommy bought him the toy and let him keep his money for another one later on.
  • Now you gotta know that my parents eat out A LOT.  Snorts and rolls with laughter – that’s definitely a post for another time.  One night they went to IHOP.  There was an older man sitting by himself.  My mom in all of her southern charm, invited him to dine with her and dad.  They talked and had coffee for at least an hour.  His wife had passed last year and each week he goes to a restaurant to think of her.  It was a privilege to spend time with him and hear about his life.

Now I want to tell you about some things that was done TO mommy this past month.  Our great friend and co-chair of Pay it Forward, Valerie, is totally awesome!  Mommy has been so sick this past month and Valerie sent mom a pick me up card.  She enclosed a little something inside of the card for mommy to treat herself with a meal.  Now let me tell you.  That made my mommy smile and bubble with happiness.  Valerie – you go way beyond being a friend.  YOU are awesome and you rock!

And to the man at the theater this past weekend – you rock!  You don’t want me to mention your name but you were a life savior.  You see, when me and the hub unit go out sometimes it is difficult for the hub to go to the restroom.  We went to the theater and the bathrooms were dark.  There was no way that he could maneuver by himself.  A gentleman standing nearby waiting for his wife saw our dilemma.  He escorted Jim to the bathroom and out.  What a knight in shining armor – thank you so very much!

Another Pay it Forward we want to throw out is to the Hilton Garden Inn located at 4801 Governor’s Drive, Huntsville, Alabama 35805.  If YOU are ever in the area and need a place to stay, mom and dad highly recommend this location.  There are the nicest people at the front desk.  The hotel is overly accommodating with any need or desire you may have.  Not only did they let mom/dad check in early last week, they recommended some wonderful restaurants and was so nice!  Thanks everyone – the stay was great!!

Banjo Music

2015/01/img_1671.jpg

Oh my friends.  There were some fun times this past weekend at the Hotel Thompson.  What kind do you ask?  Let’s put it this way, daddy has many, MANY talents.  So this post today is for two reasons.  Here we go.

To the person on my blog that mom/dad are meeting next month – daddy is practicing his banjo music.  Snorts and rolls with laughter.  We hope you get the meaning to that.

To everyone else here on the blogs that have no idea who mom/dad are meeting next month, here is your first clue.  BANJO MUSIC.

Snorts.  That’s all I can say right now.  It’s going to be a blast though from what I overhear – I mean from what mom/dad say.

Oh Dear

IMG_0066

There I was this past weekend, minding my own business, stretched out on mom’s legs and snoozing.  That’s when I heard something that was so astonishing… so unlike my humans… so weird.  I had to open my eyes and really pay attention to see if I was hearing right.  I couldn’t believe it.  I heard right.

OMP (oh my pig!)  My humans were actually talking to someone on the blogs here that *I* know about meeting up next month.  What?  Why am *I* the last one to hear about this?  And wait a minute… you are going to meet where?  A place I have never heard my parents talking about wanting to go.  But now this place has put a sparkle in mom’s eyes and a giddy up in dad’s voice.  I don’t get it.  I even heard mom making a hotel reservation with dad’s credit card.

And do you want to know the catcher?  They are not bringing me?  What is up with that?  We anipals are going to grandma’s that weekend so mom/dad can go meet one of *MY* friends on the blogs here. Oh, and don’t ask me who on the blogs here they are meeting.  Oh no.  I had to piggy promise not to squeal.

I’m so abused here at the Hotel Thompson.  I think I’ll go take another nap to try to get over this.  Stomps off annoyed.  I wonder what I can destroy in my room to show my dislike?

Daddy’s New Friend

IMG_0058.JPG

Yes – my humans should be committed.  I found this picture on my mom’s iPhone.  I’m almost afraid to even ask.  You know especially with daddy’s shirt pointing to it.  OMP!  Is there something that daddy needs to explain to us here at the Hotel Thompson?

What are these people trying to do – push me over the edge.  And what is that thing that daddy is holding.  Mommy talked about their trip to the mountains just a little bit.  Then mom got real quite and gave dad that look like “What happens in the mountains stays in the mountains”.  What?!

What do you think they were talking about and do you know my friends what this thing is?  Do tell.

31 Days of Spook – Mountain Trip to the Unknown

Today, we have a good one my fellow spook lovers. Todays tale is of horror, suspense and screams. This is another true story. This time it’s presented by both mom and dad. You see, many years ago they won a free trip to the great Georgia mountains. It was for four days and three lovely nights. What they don’t tell you is how secluded and how dark those mountain woods really are. They made a date, got directions and ventured out on their little adventure to the Georgia mountains. This picture of the woods is just a short snapshot of the actual long road they went on.

It curved around corners with nothing to see but woods on the left, right, front and behind you. They were told to buy groceries before going to the ‘cabin’ because at night no one really ventures out much. Heck dad said the translation of that really meant, “It’s a small town and everything ‘shuts’ down at dark.”

But look at these roads and how small they were. Mom was driving her SUV vehicle and thank goodness they didn’t meet anyone coming from the other way. Was that a good thing or bad thing? It did mean one thing though. They were truly going to be isolated in the woods by themselves… well maybe perhaps with a stray bear or too and other living animals of the woods. But, that’s horror story for another time. They eventually found the secluded cabin and it was a good thing too because it was getting dark… and cold.

The cabin was actually up on a hill. Mom said that it actually looked kind of spooky. What do you think? They brought in all of the groceries and tried to settle in for the night. Dad went outside alone to get some firewood. He didn’t stay outside alone for very long. He said he kept hearing rustling in the woods and strange knocking sounds. Was it Bigfoot? A bear? Spooks? He didn’t say anything to mom when he went back inside. He just started a fire in the fireplace and poked around the kitchen putting groceries up.

.

By this time, mom was exploring the upstairs portion of the cabin and found the bathroom of her dreams… or any woman’s dreams is what she told me. An old fashioned claw foot tub off of the master bedroom. She yelled down to daddy that she was going to take a soak. She made a bubble bath and got into the tub to relax. The only problem with this tub was that the headrest was facing the door area of the room so your back is towards the door. It wouldn’t make sense to put your head where the faucet handles were. But on the other hand, it felt kind of strange with your back to the door so she shut the door. After a few minutes, she heard the door open and was just talking away to daddy about how nice and relaxing it was. She didn’t get a reply so she took the washcloth off of her eyes and turned around. No one was there. That bubble bath had to be the quickest in mom’s history. She went downstairs and didn’t say anything to dad knowing how easily he can get spooked.

They fixed their dinner, drunk some wine and put everything away. There was no television in this cabin but daddy had made a really nice fire. They sat on the sofa watching the flames, listening to the embers pop, snuggling and quietly talking. To the left of the fireplace was a small bathroom. They had left the door slightly opened with the light on behind it. Mom saw it first and she didn’t say anything. She saw a dark shadow move under the door. She watched it and after a few minutes she noticed daddy getting really still. Then he saw it. The dark shadow moved from left to right – so fast. Both of them froze and looked at each other not wanting to move. What had they gotten themselves into?

Mom slowly got up from the couch. She tip toed over to the bathroom door, camera in hand just in case she actually caught something mysterious behind the door. She looked at daddy. He held up his hands with three fingers.. slowing moving one down a minute at a time. Mom watched, took a deep breath, aimed the camera, opened the door and clicked away. OMP (oh my pig!) the suspense – Busted!

Let’s just say that it wasn’t Mickey Mouse with the white gloves. But it was a small, tiny, spooky creature of the night – a mouse. Isn’t he just so cute in that picture? I hope he had a good time because he scared the crap out of mom/dad that night. They both decided they had all that they could take that night and went upstairs to bed.

Mom loves old fashioned beds and this was as great as they came. What she didn’t count on was having dad push her on it – snorts. No really, this bed literally sat so high up off the floor – just check out the picture of the bed vs. the nightstand next to it. If you fell out of bed during the middle of the night, you would surely get a concussion… or something worse 🙂 Mommy said that daddy one time went to the other side of the bed and pulled her up on that mountain of a bed. They said their nightly prayers and laid there in that high bed. I didn’t say there was much sleeping going on and no it was anything fun – stop that – it was because they were scared out of their wits! Whatever daddy heard earlier outside started up again. The howling, the knocking and it had started to rain. They could hear the force of the rain hitting against the back window behind their bed. And every once in a while, the thunder would crack and the howling of some tortured animal could be heard vibrating throughout the little cabin. They could hear the pops of tree branches outside their window and the crash of a limb hitting the ground.

All of this with sounds of bumping in the bottom part of the cabin was just too much. Heck, neither one of them were going to go downstairs and investigate things that were bumping in the middle of the night. They both said their little friend the mouse could handle it all himself. There wasn’t much sleep had that night… unless you count clinging to each other out of fear as sleep. And that lovely rain that hit the window all night, it turned into snow. The next morning there was three inches of snow outside.

Needless to say those four days and three lovely nights turned into one overnight trip never to be forgotten. They left first thing the next morning leaving groceries and all. I think they set the world’s record and getting a car warmed up and snow off it to get off that mountain. Mom/dad learned a lot of lessons from this ‘free’ trip.

Lesson 1 – When something is free, it’s not really free if it includes spooks, strange noises and a mouse that doesn’t wear white gloves.

Lesson 2 – Never go to the mountains to a ‘secluded’ cabin in the middle of January.

Lesson 3 – The more the merrier on trips like this. Next time they win a ‘free’ trip that has two bedrooms, invite another couple. Why be scared witless by themselves?

Lesson 4 – This is the most important lesson learned – mom/dad learned that they are not so much mountain people. They much prefer the beach… with people…. hopefully living people at that.
