BACON’s SPOOKTOBERFEST
Welcome my friends to October – we all know what that means. It’s time for Bacon’s Spooktoberfest! A month full of things that go bump in the middle of the night. The strange noises that vibrate through the house. The kind of eerie creepiness that settles in that you just want to run to your room and hide under your bed… Shivers. I almost scared myself. So friends stay tuned to my blog for excitement. This year, we are doing things a little different. We are writing a continuous story for 31 days of Bacon’s Spooktoberfest. So if you miss a day, you can catch up. Have a fun and scary month sweet friends.
And don’t worry, you can always hold my hoof.

That’s just totally awesome. Fabulous. Freaking yay. Mom/dad leaves this morning and what happens. Of course – it storms and rains. What the piggy heavens? Why? Why Karma would you do this to us? The first time us anipals are completely on our own and you decide to let the sky fall out with wet stuff? I hate you.
I really hate you. Mother Nature you are a mean person.
If the televisions and internet go out – we blame you. All totally you. Just sayin’ Give us anipals an olive branch and give us this one weekend please. One nice weekend – no rain. Because if you make it rain, nana will be late with food. And we just can’t have that now can we? That would be the most scariest thing in the world!

Welcome my friends to my monthly Bacon’s Tales of Terror. Usually I have this posting on the 13th of the month but it got a little delayed with the holiday. Hope all of you had a sweet and loving Valentine’s Day. But now, let’s talk about something opposite of sweet and loving. Let’s talk about scary and horror shall we?
It’s winter time outside. We’ve all experienced the weather – the cold – the snow – the rain. The non-stop up and down of the weather. Hot one day. Mild the next day. Cold and wet the next day. All of this which causes us to be sick and stuck in bed.
So there you are one evening, stuck in bed being sick. You’re coughing and sniffling and perhaps drinking some orange juice. Anything to make you feel at least one bit more of a human. Then it happens. With the storm outside brewing up, the electricity goes off. All is now quiet and dark. But you’re okay. You’re tucked away all warm in your cocoon of blankets in your nice comfy bed.
Then the rain starts up. The gentle swish at first but then the winds come in to play. Now you hear the tap-tap-tap against your bedroom windows and on your sliding glass door that overlooks your secluded backyard. But hey you’re fine all tucked in your bed.
The winds get stronger. The rain gets louder. The thunder comes out play. You hear scratching at your sliding glass door. But it’s okay you tell yourself. It’s probably the rain and maybe a little sleet is mixed up with everything. You shrug your shoulders, blow your nose and get more comfortable. But the scratching noise gets more persistent with the storm. But it’s still okay with you because at this point in your life in being this sick, death would be welcome you joke. You finally fall asleep.
You awake the next morning feeling somewhat better, not as congested and the storms have passed. You sit straight up in your bed, stretch and look out your sliding glass doors. What do you see? Hand marks coming down from the top like in this picture. You remember all of the scratching noises from the night before that you thought was the rain and/or sleet. Was someone trying to get in? Did they see you laying in your bed? What do you do my friends? What do you do?

Oh my sweet friends. How are you holding up so far with my 31 Days of Spook? Are you leaving the lights on at night yet? Are you watching all of the shadows behind you? Are you spooked when someone says hello to you? Snorts – if you are, buckle up those seat belts because I’ve got a great scary story for you today. This story was submitted by my friends Lassie and Benji. If you haven’t met Lassie and Benji, please visit their blog and tell them that Bacon sent you.

.
This is a true story from Lassie and Benji’s mom from like 87 years ago when she was a young teenager. In the picture to the left is Murko who is mentioned in the story below. In order to say Murko’s name correctly, you have to roll the “R” in the name. Go ahead and say it a couple of times. I know you want to 🙂 So now, we are going to tell mom’s story.
.
.
“Mommy came home from school one day and was all alone in the house. Well not totally alone, it was just her and her cat, “Murko”. There was this wicked wind blowing down the alley. Mommy lived in a twin house so the alley was just on the one side of the house. Anyway, the wind seemed to come outta no where! Mommy figured maybe a storm was coming, but she thought that was odd since she didn’t remember the weatherman mentioning a storm in the forecast.
Then Mommy heard some strange noises. It was almost like a high-pitched crying or wailing sound, but not quite. It was the wind. It was screeching as the air hit the corner of the windows while it was blowing down the alley. The high pitched screeching sounds were very short and the echo of the sounds bounced up and down the alley way. Mommy started to get an uneasy feeling.
The room went rhythmically from light to dark, almost as if it were shadows or passing clouds blocking the sunlight. Then all of the sudden a plant on the windowsill came tumbling over spilling dirt all over our dining room carpet.
Next, the curtains on the windows were flying up in the air as well — it was almost as if the curtains were dancing while flying in the air still tethered up by curtain rod. The curtains seemed to go methodically from one window to the next — floating up and down — first the dining room window curtains then the breakfast room curtains floated in the air. The pattern of the flying curtains was moving in Mommy’s direction getting closer and closer to where she was standing in the kitchen. Mommy was terrified seeing the white curtains floating in the air and seeing them headed in her direction…. and she screamed, “It’s a GHOST!”
Almost instantaneously, the cat leaped in the air like something spooked her and Mommy leaped even higher than the cat! And then all of the sudden the “storm” stopped.
Mommy thought to herself, was it really a “storm” or was the wind a sign of some evil presence or perhaps even a ghost! Mommy hurried and shut all the windows tight and clung to her cat waiting for her sibling to come home from school as well.
Mommy’s older sibling came home from school and was baffled at the sight of Mommy sitting on the floor holding her cat surrounded by the dirt all around her on the floor from the toppled over plant. Mommy told her sibling of the horrible tale of the wind and the plant and the flying curtains … and the sibling said, “What are you talking about, it wasn’t windy today!”
GULP! Maybe it was a Ghost after all!”

Count Baconula is back my friends! Thank you so much for the overwhelming results of my poll on bringing back 31 Days of Spook next October 2014. I had such a ball with it this year! A suggestion was made by Easy at http://easyweimaraner.wordpress.com/ to maybe come up with a spook once a month. Me and the humans discussed it and what do you know – they agreed. Thanks Easy!
It was further discussed what day could we do a spook posting. Mom immediately said the 13th – I mean isn’t that the best day of the month? Evil 13th – snorts.
So, today I bring you Bacons Tales of Terror – my first edition on the 13th. I hope you enjoy it my friends.
.
Today I’m going to talk about things that go bump in the night here at the Hotel Thompson. This is a true story – I’ve actually heard it myself. The first time it happened was about a year ago. Mom, dad, the purr things and I were all sitting in the living room and it was early afternoon. It was storming outside and the electricity had just went off. The living room was dark, the rain was hitting the windows and you could hear the clapping of the thunder that was shaking our house.
Everyone is accounted for and out of the blue we heard a squeak. It wasn’t a mouse or a toy. We don’t have squeaky toys because someone – looks around innocently – likes to chew the toy until the squeak comes out and dies. Therefore, we don’t keep anything ‘squeaky’ in the house because it might be a
choking hazard for one of us anipals. It was loud. We couldn’t figure out where it came from. And we all heard it because we anipals jumped on the floor to search for it. It sounded like it was right in the room with us. It was strange to say the least. Shortly after, the electricity came back on at the house. Weird but we wrote it off.
Then about six months later, it was late at night and we were all camped out in mom/dad’s bedroom on their bed. It was quiet, there was no television on and mom/dad were just talking. We heard it again. And again it sounded like it was right in the room with us. The same before – a loud squeak – and all of us anipals jumped up from a sleep position to standing up on the bed wondering where it came from. We were mystified.
It’s happened twice now. I’m not sure what it is or where it is coming from but it’s there. It doesn’t sound like a ‘squeaky toy’ per say. It doesn’t sound like one of us anipals “squeaking”. It doesn’t sound like a mouse “squeaking” – it would be a huge mouse if it was my friends! It happens quick and we never know when. Both times it was towards nightfall, one time was a storm outside. It’s just one weird sounding squeak and it seems to be in the room where we all are at the time.
Makes you wonder. Do you have strange sounds in your home? Things that go bump in the night that you can’t figure out?
