Here’s Your Chance My Friends

It’s that time of the year my friends.  The time that I start working on my 31 Days of Spook for October .  Every day in October , I will highlight everything spooky, things that go bump in the night, the “boo’s” that yell at you and I will ask you intriguing questions that keep you on the edge of your seat.   I hope that you enjoy it as much this year as you have in the past.  It takes a lot of time to work on so that’s why I need to start now.

I’m taking submissions for stories (true or not) that you have experienced.  Perhaps there is something spooky about an area in your town.  A supposed haunted house or spooky cemetery.  A legend that is known in your area.

I f you would like to be highlighted during my 31 Days of Spook, send me an email at Bacon.Thompson@gmail.com

I will need your name, blog address (if applicable) and story.  I will email you back a date/time that you will be highlighted on my blog in October .  Stories can be marked anonymous – but I will need your name for my records okay.  Can’t wait to see everything in October – BOO!

Bacons Tales of Terror

My dear friends – today is a very special day.  Why do you ask?  Well today is Friday the 13th.  And guess what?  It’s the only Friday the 13th we will have this year in 2016.  See, I told you it was special.

So I looked far and near and found a very special story for you my friends.  Are you ready?  Here’s my hoof in case you need to hold it.  This one might just send shivers up and down your spine and leave your night light on tonight when you go to bed.

This woman – lets just call her Judy – was in the hospital.  Every morning when the nurses would check on her and ask her how she slept the night before, she would tell them she had an awful night.  That a little girl kept coming into her room wanting to play.  And although she was sick, Judy loved children and would stay up play with the little girl for hours.  Well the nurses told Judy that there were no little children on the floor and at that time of the night no one should be visiting.  Judy shook her head and was adamant that the little girl was coming every night to play.

Later that night just like clock work, the little girl showed up again in Judy’s room.  Before the little girl could get all the way in the room, Judy snapped a picture with her cell phone.  What do you see in this picture my friends?

Bacons Tales of Terror

Welcome my friends to another great issue of

Bacon’s Tales of Terror

This month we have another true story.  Can you imagine that?  Wait until you read it – shivers.  We couldn’t believe it here at the Hotel Thompson when we first heard about it.  This story comes from some close friends of ours – Stacey and Bill.  Enjoy and remember I’ll let you hold my hoof if you need to.

Stacey and Bill are great friends with my mom/dad.  They call or visit at least once a week.  They are animal lovers just like mom/dad.  They have a couple of cats called Heathrow and JFK – shakes piggy head.  I know. I know.  Where do some people get these names?  Mom/dad assure me that there is a long story behind the names.

Well the other day apparently Stacey and Bill were in their bedroom getting ready for work.  They had their bedroom door shut to keep the cats out.  Stacey was sitting on the side of the bed talking to Bill and they were having a conversation.  At one time, Stacey started laughing.  Bill asked what she was laughing about.  Stacey said that JFK was under the bed and had reached out grabbing her ankles like he usually does.  Bill got this funny look on his face and went to the bedroom door opening it.  When he does this, in walks Heathrow.

Bill turned around with a shocked look on his face.  That’s when it dawned on Stacey and her smile dropped from her face and she lifted her feet off of the floor.  You see, JFK had passed away the week before.  So who grabbed Stacey’s ankles?

31 Days of Spook – Breakfast Anyone?

So I get up this morning and mom is going to fix me breakfast which is awesome because it’s not even the weekend.  I mean I get Cheerios during the week.  On the weekends, mom fixes me eggs or pancakes – a pig’s favorite.  So there she is cooking this morning and then all of sudden she stops singing and gets all quiet.  She gets my piggy plate, looks at me, looks down, looks at me and then looks down.  Come on mom – give this pig his breakfast.

Then when she did I was like not hungry anymore.  THUD piggy down – You want my eggs?

31 Days of Spook – Exton Witch House

This abandoned house is called the Exton Witch House and is located in Pennsylvania.  It is said that this house holds some dark mysterious secrets.  According to legend, there was a family of four witches that are buried on the property.  Their graves are positioned next to each other and it is believed that their corpses are buried in the upright position.  Why do you ask?  Supposedly witches were buried in this custom as to prevent them from causing trouble after their death.  There once was actual tombstones to mark their graves but vandals have since ran off with them.  Those that visit, so that the location is eerie and quiet.  Some even experience strange occurrences.  Would you be willing to go and explore the house with me?

31 Days of Spook – Givens Castle

Today we are focusing on a spook in Chicago ion an area where my Aunt Tina lives.  Buckle in for some bumps and scares.  Enjoy – don’t be scared now – BOO!

Givens Castle / Beverly Unitarian Church

The Givens Castle was originally built in 1886 as a residence by Robert Givens. Givens was real estate developer and wanted the house to be a replica of a castle in his native Ireland.  Some say that Givens built the home for his fiancee who died before the house could be finished.  Maybe that accounts for why Givens only lived in the castle for 8 years.

Around 1894, the castle turned into the Chicago Female College. It is reputed to have had a student die in the 1930’s from flu.

During the 1960’s, the castle was turned into the Beverly Unitarian Church.  A janitor once reported that he had a conversation with a woman who disappeared from sight. Their conversation was about the house and how much it had changed over the years.  The janitor saw no footprints outside in the snow and all of the doors were locked.  Where did she go?  Was it the student that passed away from the flu?

The pastor of the church at the time was a woman who claimed she saw a pair of hands touch her husband’s waist.  Even more, the pastor thought the hands were those of a woman.  The husband never felt a thing.  During this time as well, there were reports of a candle being seen through windows when nobody was present in the building.

Unexplained noises have also been attributed to the ghost and a former pastor said that he often tried to track down the source of the noises but was never able to.

The story is courtesy of Chicago Ghost blogger.

31 Days of Spook – Mental Health Ward

Today, let’s tell another true story from daddy.  I know you’re dying to hear it – evil snorts.

To get through college, daddy worked at a local hospital on the mental health ward.  No those rumors are not true – that is not where he met mommy – snorts.  When he first started at the hospital, he worked the midnight shift. The mental health ward during this time was in the basement right beside the morgue.  That would bring shivers to this little piggy to begin with.

One of his co-workers  told him a story the first couple of days that he was in training that still to this day puts his nerves on edge.  They said that years earlier, a mental health patient had gotten out of their rooms in the middle of the night.  They went into the  elevator and hung themselves around 3:00AM. Staff of the hospital found the mental health patient hanging in the elevator dead.

Since then, the elevators had locks installed on them and they won’t work without the key being inserted to call for the elevator.  The nurse told daddy that every night at 3:00AM, without fail, the elevator doors would open by themselves.  Daddy didn’t take too much into this until the first time he worked by himself.  The nurse’s station was right in front of the elevator doors.  Exactly at 3:00AM, the doors opened all by themselves. It still sends chills up and down daddy’s spine.  And the elevators to this date, still open and close exactly at 3:00AM.  Nothing is wrong with them, they’ve been checked.  There is no reason for them to open at this particular time.  Anyone going up?

31 Days of Spook – Myrtles Plantation

Today, let’s talk about haunted houses.  When I think about the most haunted house here in the United States, the first one that always comes to mind is the Myrtles Plantation in St Francisville, Louisiana.  Today, it’s a quaint little bed and breakfast.  But before, there was an ugly past that took place that made it the spook fest that it is today.

Back in the day of plantations, there was a despicable thing that southern plantation owners did and that was called having slaves.  It was a horrible act to ‘own’ another person just because of the color of your skin.  Thank goodness that those days are long behind us and we have progressed to the point of not ‘owning’ someone ever again.

But back in the day of the Myrtles when Mark and Sara Woodruff owned the plantation, they had many slaves, one in particular was Chloe.  Chloe was caught eavesdropping on a conversation of the Woodruffs.  For punishment, one of Chloe’s ears was cut off and she wore a green turban to hide it.  Chloe, to say the least, was very upset over having one of her ears cut off.

In order to get even, Chloe baked a birthday cake containing the extract of boiled and reduced oleander leaves, which are extremely poisonous.  Her plan was to make Mr. Woodruff sick but it backfired.  Only Sara Woodruff and her two daughters ate the cake and all three of them died from the poison.  All of the other slaves were very upset over Chloe doing this and supposedly they hung Chloe and then threw her body into the Mississippi River.

To this day when the circumstances are just right, you can see Chloe wearing her green turban walking through the Myrtles Plantation or the grounds.  And, if you look closer, you can see the Woodruff children playing on the front porch just like they did when they were alive.

And there are rumors about a mirror in the plantation.  Shivers.  This one had my fur standing straight up on edge.  Back in the day, when there was a death in the family, people covered all of the mirrors in the home.  Perhaps with everything going on with Chloe and the three deaths, a mirror that hangs in the foyer got forgotten.  It’s rumored that this mirror holds the spirits of Sara Woodruff and her two children.  So if you are visiting the plantation and primping in this mirror, give it a close look.  You might see some little hand marks on the glass.

But let’s now stop here with Chloe.  There are still others that haunt the plantation.  The house itself is reported to be built over an Indian burial ground.  Legend is there is a ghost of a young Indian woman that can be seen around the grounds.

And during the Civil War, the house was overtaken by Union soldiers.  It’s claimed that there were three soldiers killed in the house in the doorway.  There in the doorway is a blood stain  where the three soldiers were killed roughly the size of a human body that will not come clean.  Legend states that people that try to use a mop or broom on that one particular area are unable to push the mop or broom in that one spot.

Have you had enough of this plantation yet?  Is your fur standing on edge?  Let me end with one more story of the Myrtles Plantation.

There is also the ghost of William Winter.  He was shot on the front porch of the plantation.  He came back inside and crawled up the stairs to the 17th step where he collapsed dead in his wife’s arms.  Often, you can see a ghost walking or crawling up the stairs and disappearing on the 17th step.  Doesn’t this make you want to go ghost hunting now?
