Memorial Day

20130507-222103.jpg

Memorial Day is a federal holiday in the United States. On this day, which occurs every year on the last Monday of May, we remember the men and women who have died while serving our country.

Many people on this day will visit cemeteries and memorials placing an American flag at graves to honor our fallen heroes.

Let’s remember that appreciation is not only one day out of the year – it’s year round.

Thank you to all of those who have died while serving our great country! I think this picture says it all.

Mommy Said There Would Be Days Like This

Mom has been under a little stress lately.  There I said it.  My mom is weird though.  Instead of letting things out, she holds things in and gets really quiet.  Like super quiet.  Which is so unlike women – come on all of us can admit that.  Us men know that when women go quiet, there is something brewing and trouble is on the horizon.

So here she is trying to exercise, lots of things on her ‘to do’ list, sweating deadlines and you know before too long she is going to blow.  Shaking my piggy head.  This can’t end well if you know what I mean.  So I think I’m going to let mom explain the rest.  Take it away mommy.  Remember I love you ❤

Thanks my sweets.  Mommy loves you too.  I’m better today.  Really I am.  But I think a lot of people can relate to stress – especially when things pile up and you just can’t get it off your back.  I’ve had lots of deadlines lately – work deadlines, September surprise deadlines, government deadlines, accounting deadlines.  Usually I just juggle everything and off I go but this past week.  WOW.  Everything added up until I ran into a wall.  Like for instance….

Here in Georgia we get our car tags every year which are due by your birthday.  My tag is coming up due so I was going to get it one day last week.  Went to the local government office to get it.  Stood in line for what seemed like forever cause you know there was only what 20 people in front of me.  Finally got to the window to realize that I forgot to get my emissions checked on my Jeep.  Really?  How could I forget that?!  I’ve only been doing it for YEARS.  So, I leave the office and in my favorite Scarlett O’Hara voice reminded myself that tomorrow is another day.

The next day I get up early and decide that I will get my emissions/tag on the way to work.  I have plenty of time – famous last words.  I go to an emissions shop that I normally go to.  Guess what?  They are closed because their computer is down.  Lovely.

So I go on down the street to another emissions shop and pull into the facility.  Their machine is working; however, the guy using the machine is pretty new at this.  You can tell because of his clumsiness in getting around everything.  I keep repeating to myself be patient.  Then the young kid… did I mention he was young too?…plugs his contraption into my car that turns on all of the lights on the dash – which is the point of said contraption.  But the young man starts getting excited telling me I’m not going to pass because my check engine light came on the dash.  This kid is acting like he won the lottery jumping around and waving his hands.  I thought maybe I had missed something.  He rambles on and on when finally he takes a breath.  I tell him that all of the lights come on during this stage to verify they work.  That’s when this kid did some incredibly stupid.  He told me oh no I was wrong.

Okay so maybe at this point I closed my eyes and counted to ten while this kid continued his rambling about the check engine light.  I finally held my hand up to him and asked for the manager.  He went and got the manager.  Walking back to my car I could hear Mr. Excitable explaining to the manager what happened.  The manager stopped him and pretty much told him the same thing – that’s suppose to happen.  I was good.  I promise you I was good.  I didn’t say a word but sat there smiling like the southern gal I was.  But I admit, it took a lot.  And guess what?  My car passed emissions.  I got my paperwork, paid and told them to have a good day.

I then proceeded back to the government office to get my tag.  The Gods were with me.  Maybe they were paying me back for not going off on the young kid at the emissions office because I was able to walk straight in and get my tag decal.  Now is that tag on my Jeep yet?  Nope.  I keep forgetting to put it on.  Shaking my head – I think I need a secretary myself.

So I’m ahead of schedule so I’m thinking I need to take care of one more thing before work.  Remember back in April when I had my car accident?  The accident made one of my tail lights go out on the Jeep.  I had it replaced and last week the darn same light went out again!  Of course, that was bugging the heck out of me.  The place I had it fixed at only takes appointments.  Really, appointments at a service department.  What about last minute things that come up.  You have to make an appointment two weeks out?  Drives me crazy.  So I thought I might just go to this place this morning and check it out.

I enter the office and it was full.  There was 5 consultants and they all had people they were helping.  So I stood waiting patiently.  No one acknowledged me but hey I’m good.  That was until a MAN walks in and everyone jumps to wait on him.  WHY do car places do this?!  I don’t get it.  What?  I’m a woman so I’m invisible?  I’m a woman so I don’t know how to think?  Okay that might have been the point that I turned in my southern charm card.  I might have said really, REALLY loudly, “So much for waiting in line.”  Maybe I said it too loudly because I do believe I heard a mouse fart in the corner.  Of course then someone finally acknowledged me and offered to help me.

I told him what was wrong with my car and that I was just in to get it repaired.  I advised that it should still be under warranty and I wanted the bulb replaced again, that if it quit working again I would take it to the Jeep dealership.  Mr. Service Guy just smiled at me and get this had the gall to say – are you ready for this? – “Okay little lady we will do just that and it will be about an hour.”  What the heck?!  I think the look on my face might have been his first clue that I was fixing to blow.  I took a breath and told him, “First off, I would like to say thank you for calling me little and thank you for *finally* waiting on me.  However, an hour of waiting for you to replace a simple bulb is totally unacceptable.  I’ll give you 20 minutes and thank you.”  Needless to say, I was out within 15 minutes.

So come on friends.  You know we’ve all had these kind of days, right?  LOL

Don’t Forget Your Veterans!

20121112-082753.jpg

Don’t forget to thank a veteran!  We live due to veterans fighting for our freedom.  They are much appreciated, not just today, but everyday!

My country,’ tis of thee,
sweet land of liberty, of thee I sing;
land where my fathers died,
land of the pilgrims’ pride,
from every mountainside let freedom ring!

My native country, thee,
land of the noble free, thy name I love;
I love thy rocks and rills,
thy woods and templed hills;
my heart with rapture thrills, like that above.

Let music swell the breeze,
and ring from all the trees sweet freedom’s song;
let mortal tongues awake;
let all that breathe partake;
let rocks their silence break, the sound prolong.

Our fathers’ God, to thee,
author of liberty, to thee we sing;
long may our land be bright
with freedom’s holy light;
protect us by thy might, great God, our King.

The Great Post Office Drama

    Oh friends.  I’m not sure if your post office is like our post office but you gotta enjoy a great hide and seek game.  Oh wait a minute, you don’t know the whole story of The Great Post Office Drama – snorts.  Pull up a chair, get you a drink and some popcorn.  This is the mystery.

Okay here it goes.  Last Friday, there was a knock on the front door of the Hotel Thompson.  Before dad could answer it – which trust me was only moments – the mail person jumped in their truck and went on down the street.  What?  Was that a run by post office… a run by knocking… a test to see if anyone was home?  Was there a video camera somewhere with people going to jump out to say “Gotcha”?  I mean it was that quick.  Later on when mom came home, she found a piece of paper in the mailbox saying they tried to deliver a package.  Yeah, okay.  On the notice, it said who it was from so mom told me and I got so excited I squealed.  The notice said you could come the next morning, Saturday, to the post office and pick it up.

So all night long, I waited.  I tossed and turned.  All in anticipation of what the package contained.  Saturday morning, I got mom up early and her/dad went to the post office.  Now, our post office for our neighborhood is like 10 miles away which is really odd because we have a post office like 3 miles away.  But that is post office guidelines for you.   Mom/dad get to the post office and guess what.  It’s closed.  Locked down.  No one home.  Nada.  What the heck?  Mom looks at her notice again.  Yep, she’s at the right place.  How’s that for service, huh?

So mom/dad go back home.  Later on in the day, mom just happens to see the postman or should I call her postwoman.  She runs out to meet her waving the slip of paper in her hand.  Mom in so many nice words tells her about how it was ‘attempted to be delivered’ and fusses.  Of course the carrier apologizes and doesn’t have the package today.  Mom then tells her she even went to the post office on the slip she left and guess what – they were closed!  The carrier took the slip and said she would have the substitute deliver it Monday.  Great.  My package will have to wait until Monday.  Drats.  Stomps hooves.  Has a hissy fit.  I don’t wanna wait.  I want it NOW.

So here we are – Post Office 2 and Me -0-.  Monday comes around finally and mom just happens to get off early due to a meeting.  She gets home just in time for the mailman thinking she will have my package.  Guess what – no package.  He knows nothing about it.  This pig can only take so much my friends.  I beg mommy – please go find my package.  We all know it’s out there somewhere…. probably in package purgatory begging to come home to me.  I can almost hear it now – “Find me Bacon”.

So mom/dad jump in the Jeep and go to our post office.  All the way daddy is telling mommy that package is gone like the wind never to be seen again in these parts of the South.  But mom, she has the patience of a saint.  She goes into the post office and explains the dilemma.  What do they say?  “You are at the wrong post office.  You have to go to this post office”.  Which might I add is a bit further.  When mom says the paper said this one.  Are you ready for it….. the post person laughed and said, “Oh, those are old papers.  We changed a while back.”

So mom goes out to the Jeep and hears daddy say it again, “Bye-Bye package”.  Of course by this time mom is determined she will track my package down.  She goes to the second post office and of course, they can’t find it either.  What is this, the great treasure hunt of the south?  She asks for a supervisor, explains the situation and do you know what they told mommy?  When mommy told them about ringing the door bell and then promptly leaving, they said that the carrier will only wait a second or two.  WTH?  This almost made mom lose her mommy mind.  That’s hardly enough time to get off of the sofa.  Then the supervisor went on their great hunt and find mission.  And guess what?  They couldn’t find it either!  Talk about your customer service and don’t get mom started on the attitude everyone was having with their attitudes like mom was just plain crazy.

Now mom is getting a little upset and puts on a thick southern charm.  She asks to speak to the head person in charge.  He comes to the desk and she explains the entire situation again of course this times she is keeping her calm but oozing her forceful southern stand.  They then go on a hunt and find mission.  And guess what?  They come back with the package!  It was on the supervisors desk of all places.  OMP – happy dance – happy dance.  Mom takes the package, squeals in the post office, says thank you and goes out to the Jeep… just waiting for dad’s response.  He’s in shock.

They come home and give me the package!  Now you are probably asking, “Bacon, who is the package from?!”  I’m glad you asked my friends.  It was from my brother Easy across the pond.  What a brother and pal he is.  He sent me this package for my birthday.  And let me tell you something.  Easy you are the best!  We loved it!  My mom/dad laughed so hard when they opened the package.  We loved everything.  Thanks brother!!

Look at these goodies – squeals with piggy delight.  Now the pink pig is a bank.  That way I can save some of my allowance for my future trips here/there in the world.  I even let mommy put STAR (that’s his name) on the new book shelf in the living room.  That way we can make sure he doesn’t wonder off and get hurt.

And then there is Pee and Pool.  Oh.my.piggy.heavens.  Can you belief that?  I ❤ them!  We have all laughed and laughed over them.  Pee and Poo.  You want to take a better look don’t you?  Are they not the funniest duo you have seen in sometime?  You just gotta love them.  Heck mommy even picked them up and hugged them – now *that* was funny!  Oh brother – thank you so very much for thinking of me.  I love everything!!  ❤ Bacon

31 Days of Spook – Story Submission

Oh squeal – friends today is a great story submission.  Today’s story is sent in anonymously to be shared with you.  Perhaps it will make you think twice about doing a double take.  You don’t get the meaning of that?  Well then – please enjoy the story my friends.

“A strange thing happened this past Sunday.  I was in church before the service, doing those busy things I normally do.  I walked through the church during the the gathering congregation and saw an older woman, a friend, sitting beside someone I didn’t recognize.  I took note of it primarily because she wasn’t sitting in the pew where she usually sat, but thought nothing more.  I was quite focused on my duties and paid no more attention to it.

When the service finally started, I suddenly realized that the old woman I had seen had passed away earlier this year.  I looked immediately to the pew where I had seen her, and she, nor the person I had seen her sitting by that I didn’t recognize, were not there.

I’m still trying to process this.  It was real.  It was weird.  It is comforting (I think).”

7 Weeks of Weird

Today my new friend here is highlighting 7 weeks of weird in “Weirdest Way You’ve Earned Money”.

Now this week is a little more difficult.  WOW – the weirdest way I’ve earned money.  It took me a LOT of thinking on this.  I mean for obvious reasons – snorts – I personally don’t need money.  I just use mom/dad’s credit cards 🙂  But there are times that daddy has told me to step up to the plate to keep me in piggy chow.  I mean I don’t need green backs but I can be paid in other ways concerning my pot-belly.  Let’s review what I’ve done the past several piggy years shall we.

When mom’s friends have parties for their children, sometimes they ask mom to bring me over.  I get to walk around snorting and having a fun time.  The kids love playing with me.  I usually get paid in food.  I’ve gotten entire watermelons, squash, lettuce and carrots.  Hey – I was a happy piggy 🙂

Daddy’s weirdest job he ever had?  He worked many years in a mental health institution.  The stories he can tell – snorts!  They would blow your mind.

Mom’s weirdest job she ever had?  She used to work as a phone operator in an answering service.  She has a great voice – 🙂
