I’ve Created a New Season – Happy Sprinter

This picture is from Wikipedia.  It shows the typical seasons – Spring, Summer, Fall and then Winter.  That’s the way it’s suppose to fall.  But this year, dear old Mother Nature is not playing fairly.  Mommy says she needs hormone shots and daddy says she needs more dates with Father Time.  I’m not sure which one is right.  I just know that maybe she needs a kick in the butt.  Yep, I said.  I kick right smack in the middle of her captains quarters.

You see, this weekend is what I’m talking about.  Saturday here at the Hotel Thompson we get up and it is beautiful.  There’s no other way to put it.  The birds are chirping (and that’s a story for another time – snorts), the sun is out, the wind is just right and the temperatures are in the 60’s.  You couldn’t ask for a more gorgeous day.

Our neighbor Big Daddy had cut our yard and the back yard was spectacular.  Thanks Big Daddy!  We went out there and ran for a while.  Mommy says it was for me to get some sun and I said I understood.  Secretly I knew she wanted me to run some excess Winter weight off so I would sleep more deeply tonight.  I’m good with that.  I just wonder why she didn’t make daddy do the same.  Double snorts.

It was a wonderful day.  Lots of running, loving and snuggles.

Then BAM!  What a change Sunday.  Sunday brought us rain, cool weather and strong winds.  We could actually sit inside and hear the winds!  We all got up and had breakfast together.  It was so damp and yuck outside that after breakfast, we all went back to bed.  Now, I’m not hating days like this because usually, like this day, when we go back to bed we all get on the Select Comfort for a siesta.  It was great.

Picture this.  A king sized Select Comfort bed with two humans, one purr things, one pooch and a piggy.  Snorts, Me and Houdini are a 65 with mommy on the Select Comfort.  Daddy and Hemi are a 100.  That’s just too hard for this little oinker.  When we got up from our nap, it was still yuck outside.

Now, I’m telling you all of this for a reason.  It’s suppose to be Spring but it still acts like Winter.  I’m suggesting a new season called – Sprinter.  You get it?  Spring with Winter.  So sometime today, tell someone Happy Sprinter.  Then smile and remember my little story here.  🙂

Happy Sprinter my pals!

Cartoons Anyone?

There we were this past weekend, errands were taken care of and mom and dad finally were resting in the living room. There wasn’t anything “good” on television so they decided to watch the cartoon channel. Yes I’m glad to report that they are not that old yet – snorts with piggy laughter.

So they were watching their cartoons, laughing and acting like two year olds. They started talking about Saturday morning cartoons and what they used to watch on television. That made us all think. What were some of your favorite cartoons while you were growing up?
Mom and dads were: Scooby Doo (mom still loves this show today), the Flintstones, the Jetsons, Mighty Mouse, Heckle and Jeckle, Thundercats, the Looney Tunes, the Huckleberry Hound Show, Yogi Bear, Jonny Quest, Speed Racer, Hong Kong Phooey and Jabber Jaw.

Do you remember these?  What were your favorites?img_6138

Flag Day

20130614-081148.jpg

Momma said today is Flag Day. Do you know what that means? She explained it to me. Flag Day is celebrated in the United States on June 14th. It commemorates (isn’t that a long word!) the adoption of the flag of the United States, which happened on that day in 1777 by resolution of the Second Continental Congress.

Do you know which president of the United States proclaimed June 14th as the official Flag Day? It was President Woodrow Wilson in 1916. In August 1949, National Flag Day was established by an Act of Congress.

Flag Day is not an official federal holiday. But on June 14, 1937, Pennsylvania became the first (and only) U.S. state to celebrate Flag Day as a state holiday, beginning in the town of Rennerdale.

A Grapevine to Friendship?

/home/wpcom/public_html/wp-content/blogs.dir/93d/28253568/files/2015/01/img_1313.jpg

Okay my friends – I have to ask.  Do you think I should buy this for the little guy here at the Hotel Thompson – Houdini?  Don’t you think that he would just look absolutely cute as heck wearing this?  Snorts – too much?  Not enough?

He’s an alright kind of guy – don’t tell him I said that.  You know we share a bedroom.  Do you know that he snores?  For a little six pound pup, he can shake the rafters.  Really, pig’s honor.  I’m not lying.

I just thought if I bought him a shirt – since he likes to dress up – it might show him that I do kind of like him… for a puppy.

So what do you think – yes or no for the shirt?  Snorts – happy Saturday!

31 Days of Spook – Hitchhikers

Oh my friends – just a little reminder today this Saturday as you are out and about running errands.  Please be careful of hitchhikers.  One never knows who they really might be… an escaped inmate.. a murderer.. a rouge clown..

Happy LONG Weekend!

Oh friends – can you smell it?  Here comes a wonderful LONG weekend.  Full of fun, food, cuddles, food, love, food, backyard fun, food, television, sleep and more food – snorts. You get the drift – let’s all have some fun.  Kick your feet up, snuggle down on the couch, gather in the back yard to make S’mores and have F.U.N.

Have a great LONG weekend my friends!  I’ll be thinking of you!

Bacon’s Tales of Terror

Welcome back my friends to Bacon’s Tales of Terror on this 13th of the month.

Today, I want to talk about superstitions – that’s great for a 13th posting isn’t it?  Snorts.

Did you know that back in the day, breathing ‘in’ was interpreted as breathing in life while sneezing was interpreted as a swift exit of your essence or soul.  If your soul left your body through a sneeze then you would die without your soul.  This was the basis for further superstitions about sneezing throughout the centuries.

Do you tell people that sneeze, “God Bless You?”  This is actually a practice that is practiced all over the world and dates back to February 16, 590 AD.  Pope Gregory the Great decreed that prayers must be said to fight against a deadly plague in Italy at that time.  The plague was associated to be fatal by those who sneezed.  Telling someone, “God Bless You”, after they sneezed would protect people from the effects of the plague.

Saying, “God Bless You” can also be linked to around 1665 during the black plague in Europe.  Violent sneezing with the black plague was the sign of the end of the disease and death was certain to follow.  The pope made it a law so those that sneezed would be blessed due to their soon-to-be death.  It was also during this time that cover one’s mouth with their hand or cloth was put into place in order to stop the spread of further diseases.

In 17th century England if someone sneezed, people around them would remove their hats, curtsy or bow and wish them, “God Bless You”.  In the 1800’s in England, this poem came out:

Sneeze on Monday – sneeze for danger.

Sneeze on Tuesday – kiss a stranger.

Sneeze on Wednesday – sneeze for a letter.

Sneeze on Thursday – something better.

Sneeze on Friday – sneeze for woe.

Sneeze on Saturday – a journey to go.

Sneeze on Sunday – your safety seek – for Satan will have you for the rest of the week!

There is good luck also associated with sneezing:  if you sneeze between noon and midnight; if the family cat sneezes; if two people sneeze at the same time; if you sneeze twice in a row; or if you turn your head right when you sneezed.

But there’s also bad luck associated with sneezing:  if you sneeze in the morning while getting dressed; if you turn your head left while sneezing; if you sneeze three times in a row and someone is talking bad about you while sneezing four times is the sign of a cold.
