Travels in the South

Sometimes it’s hard to get out for a quick dinner especially when one is saving money.  But this night, mom/dad found the perfect place.  It was the Sam’s Warehouse – snorts with piggy laughter.  Daddy went in and asked for a table for two – rolls piggy eyes.  He’s the romantic isn’t he?

Well mom enjoyed her fine dining experience.  They got hot dogs with the works.  By the works I mean sauerkraut, onions and mustard.  Dad also went the extra mile with a bag of chips.  Now you are probably asking yourself was this really awesome?  Nods head.  Mom said YES.  For a whopping $5.00 – they had dinner for two.  Big spenders huh?

Journey with Friends

Welcome my friends to our weekly issue of Journey with Friends.  This is a time that we come together for support, for encouragement, for fellowship – all with one single goal in mind – to live better.  Welcome to our journey to share our goals and our accomplishments and our disappointments and frustrations.

Together we can do this!

Oh friends – how was your week/weekend?  In the words of my pig son, “Oh my piggy heavens!”   I admit that we didn’t make the best of food choices last week.  I tried to stay on plan the best I could do but it was one of those weeks that you chased to keep up with.  Can you relate?  And I knew the weekend was going to be busy.  There were so many errands to run.  When you think about it, it’s unfair how we get two days of the weekend that is meant for rest from your work week but is used to play catch up with errands. And then you have to work five days.  Tsk-tsk so unfair in my book – LOL.

So Saturday, we hit the door running.  We had a few things planned that somehow ended in snowballing into a cluster of errands.  I’m not sure how that happened.  But the list of things to do kept growing and growing like kudzu here in the south.  First off on the list, to get my hair cut and colored.  There is nothing like getting pampered with a cut/color and just having some time to yourself.  Of course, my cut and color turning into several hours but that gave me time to work on my to-do list on my phone.  But, I do like the results.  I feel younger, more relaxed and more me. Afterwards, can you believe we went Christmas shopping and finished?  Yes we did.  Now that deserved a drink and trust me, mommy got one…or two.

I know it was the marathon from the day before that did it.  Sunday morning I felt like a zombie trying to move in bed.  Oh my!  It hurt to even move my toes.  Finally after some slow moving, I did succeed in getting up and dressed.  The goal for this day was to have a quiet breakfast with the hub unit at one of our local places.  We walked out to the Jeep and guess what.  The Jeep was feeling it too.  One of the tires on the Jeep was barely filled with air.  It might have been during this time that I lowered my head and thought, “Why me?  Why today”.

That’s how our Sunday plans got changed.  Instead of breakfast that we wanted, it was to our local Sam’s Warehouse to get tires installed.  So while waiting for our Jeep, we had the breakfast of champions at the Sam’s snack bar… pizza.  At least the hub unit was thrilled.  And at least 2.5 hours later, we left with nice tires… amazing how a Jeep runs with full tires.

So my friends, how was your week/weekend?

Table for Two Please

Like many people, Saturday night was mom/dad’s date night.  You might remember that a couple of week’s ago, they went to dine at the finest restaurant this south of Atlanta.  It was the Sam’s Warehouse – snorts with piggy laughter.  Daddy went in and asked for a table for two – rolls piggy eyes.  He’s the romantic isn’t he?  The previous night they had pizza.  You can read about that date night here.

Well mom must have enjoyed her fine dining experience because last night she wanted to go back.  But this time, they wanted hot dogs with the works.  By the works I mean sauerkraut, onions and mustard.  Dad also went the extra mile with a bag of chips.  Now you are probably asking yourself was this as awesome as the pizza night?  Nods head.  Mom said YES.  For a whopping $5.00 – they had dinner for two.  Big spenders huh?

Now after they were eating and were just sitting there talking, they saw some peeps they knew.  The peeps came over and sat with mom/dad asking them what they were doing.  Mom said they were on their date night.  The peep said, “Hogwash – you’re married now.  There are no date nights”.  What?  Mom/dad didn’t get that memo.  They always have weekly date nights.  Don’t your parents?

Adventures with Mom/Dad

Hello my friends.  If you have been following my blog for any length of time, then you know that my mom/dad are crae-crae, crazy, over the top, not swimming with both oars or shall we say can not go out into public without getting into trouble.  You understand where I’m coming from?

This weekend was no exception.  I’m telling you, mom/dad left to their own devices not under anipal care, can be committed somewhere with matching white jackets that tie in the back.  At this point, you are probably asking yourself well what the heck did they do this time?

Dad had been telling mom all week that Saturday night, he was taking her somewhere special, somewhere with pizzazz with great food and that the place was very popular.  Come Saturday night, mom donned some special clothes and met dad in the front room.  Dad told her, “Honey you are way overdressed.”  So mom went and put on some jeans and a t-shirt.  That’s when she started thinking what kind of “nice” place was this restaurant.

They get into the Jeep and dad gives mom instructions.  That’s when… give me a moment to snort with piggy laughter… they arrived at the special restaurant with pizzazz – the local Sam’s Warehouse.  OMP – mom busted out laughing so hard and was thankful she changed clothes for this special outing.

Mom/dad entered the warehouse and had the person at the door check their membership.  That’s when dad told the greeter that he needed a table for two.  Mom just shook her head and laughed.

So mom/dad find the best seat in the house and decide what they want for dinner.  They chose pizza – astonishing huh?  But not just any pizza.  Dad referred to it as the best pizza this south of Atlanta.  And the picture really does not do it justice.  That one pizza slice is as big as a regular paper plate – or fine china as daddy called it that night.  So, two slices of pizza and two drinks for an astonishing $4.00 date night. Can you beat that?  Snorts with piggy laughter.  So, the next time you are at your local Sam’s Club, check out the amazing pizza… not that I would know personally because mom/dad didn’t bring me home a piggy bag.

Shopping Around the World

My friend Fozzie and I have scheduled a group posting today of Shopping Around the World.   We thought it would be interesting to see the differences between different countries all over. This month we are focusing on items that we *have* to have in our lives.

Items priced this month – Prices in Georgia USA:

  • Water.  We buy 24 packs of Nestle water when they are on sale for $3.00 – this is for 16.9 ounce bottles.
  • Bath Soap.  We are kind of picky here at the Hotel Thompson on our bath soap.  Mommy ❤ the Lever brand – that’s almost all she ever buys.  Every once in a while, our local grocery store will have packages of two bars on sale for $1.00!  Mommy stocks up on it when they go on sale.  It always smells so fresh!
  • Deodorant.  What is up with prices on deodorant?!  Mommy and daddy – even though it’s made for a woman snorts – use Secret clear gel.  This runs $4.99 a bottle – that’s almost like highway robbery just so you don’t stink… well that’s what mom says – snorts.  Sometimes if mom is lucky, she can get a package of two for $7.99 and she sometimes has a coupon for $2.00 off making it $5.99 for two – which is a lot better than $4.99 for ONE.  Thank goodness I don’t need this stuff – WOW!
  • Laundry Detergent.  We use Tide pods – dad ❤ this stuff.  It’s easy for him since he does all the washing/drying.  He can just throw a pod in and doesn’t have to measure anything.  We buy a tub at Sam’s Warehouse for $21.00 for 90 pods.  That’s pretty good for us – it almost lasts us an entire year!  Not bad at all my friends.
  • Random Item.  Andy Capp’s Hot Fries.  Delicious – Yummy – Out of this World – Licks Piggy Lips  This is one of mom’s weaknesses.  If she goes to our local Sam’s Warehouse, she has to buy a box of these.  There are 48 bags to a box and the box runs $9.00 – that’s lots of joy.  Have you seen this?  This is what the picture of them look like to the right.  You want some now, don’t you?  Snorts

If you have some items that you want to get on the list, email me at baconthompson@gmail.com

Hope you had fun!!
