Journal to Healthier Living – Week 24

Welcome my friends.  I’m tweaking my weekly journey with my healthier living.  It’s a step in the right direction for sure.  I hope you come along for the ride.  Instead of day-to-day comments, I’m going to post something from my personal journal to share.  Hope you enjoy.  Remember all of us go down this path and we are all in it together ❤

Week of  06/17-06/23/2018 – Week 24

“Dear Journal – “When did life become a hurry?  Everyone seems to be in such a rush.  People flying down the road – they have to be first.  The same person that was behind you has to go around you to be in front.  People are rushing through the stores cutting in front of you and grabbing things.  People constantly talking on their cell phones.  Life needs to slow down.  People need to slow down.  What happened to sitting on the deck just breathing and relaxing?  People are constantly multi-tasking.  I think this week I will slow a bit.  Relax.  Sit and enjoy dinner with the family.  Talk.  Enjoy just being together and not rushing.”

Miles walked:  5.27

National Stress Awareness Day

Journalist Rocky the Squirrel here –

Keeping his paws on the nuts of the world –

Today April 16th is a day that Bacon’s mom can definitely wrap her arms around – National Stress Awareness Day.  This day was created in 1992 sponsored by  the Health Resource Network (HRN). They started this holiday to increase public awareness of the causes and cures of stress.  And we all know that stress can come from a variety of different reasons:  paying bills, work, children, schedules, car problems, friends – you name it and stress can come from it.  And here in the United States with taxes being due yesterday, what better day to have this holiday then today?

Today is the day to acknowledge that you are stressed out and then do something about it.  Go for a walk.  Try some meditation.  Try some exercise.  Do some yoga.  Just lay down and relax.  Just for a bit, don’t concentrate on the wrongs in your life but concentrate on the things that you have to be grateful for.  Shrug off this stress even if it is just for today.  I know this afternoon me and Bacon are going to try yoga.  Wish us luck – his downward pig pose is not something I’m looking forward to – chitter chatter!

Dear Bacon

20130225-204558.jpg

Dear Bacon – You talk about having your own room.  All 8 of us have to share a room and this is our kitty bunk beds.  It gets kind of crowded and you really can’t stretch out… let alone snuggling up to any kind of a blanket or pillow.  We even heard that the kitties at the Hotel Thompson sleep in a ‘real’ bed.  Is that true??  Signed Eight is Enough

Dear Eight is Enough – WOW – that is a tall kitty bunk bed there.  I would think that stretching out on the floor would be more freedom than confined to that little compartment.  Is it first come, first served or is everyone assigned their ‘bed’?  Make the best out of it my little purr things!  Enjoy the moments in life where you can.  P.S.  Yes the purr things here get to sleep with mom and dad on their select comfort bed.  Rotten aren’t they?  … like I don’t know nothing about being rotten… snort.

Dear Bacon – 20130225-204658.jpgI hear the “V” word… you know “vet”.  I tried to hide but the master found me like this.  What do you think I should do next time?  Signed Hide N Seek

Dear Hide N Seek – Well first of all, next time hide under something that you can actually ‘hide’ underneath.  Just because you can’t see your master doesn’t mean your master can’t see you.  Follow me?  But hey on the other hand, that is really a cute picture of your captain quarters – snort – LOL.

20130225-204751.jpgDear Bacon – Sometimes the best things in life are when we sit back, relax and reflect on life.  You know, don’t sweat the small stuff.  I have a favorite rock that I like to sun myself on and reflect.

It helps me to keep stress free and ponder my life in general.   Signed Pondering Ribbit

Dear Pondering Ribbit – WOW – Well you do look relaxed my green friend.  I tried meditation in my bedroom.  I just couldn’t get my mind to quit focusing on running and eating though.

Perhaps I will try again.  Stay green my friend.

20130225-204814.jpg

Dear Bacon – I’m the sheriff here in these parts.  Bark Bark – you think I fit the part?  I may be small but I’m a force to be reckoned with!  Signed Walking Small with a Big Bark

Dear Walking Small with a Big Bark – I think you can possibly get away with it – you are just too cute with that hat on!!

And those big brown eyes, yeah, I would let you arrest me.  Snort.

P.S. I’ve seen some political people on the television.  I think you have a shot just like everyone else!  Be firm but be fair – that should be your motto.

20130225-204851.jpgDear Bacon – My master is always telling me, “Safety first”.  Every time we go on a road trip, she straps me in.  Other dogs don’t get strapped in.  Signed Wanna be Free

Dear Wanna be Free – If all of the other barky things jumped off a cliff, would you?  If they all got taken to the doggy jail…AKA pound… would you want to go too?  Your human cares for you with all of their heart and doesn’t want anything to happen to you.  I say go with it little man.  Enjoy the extra treatment.  P.S.  I’ll try to hide this picture from my mom.  The next thing I know, she will be buckling Houdini into a carseat like this.

Paw Time with Houdini

Welcome my friends to another week of Paw Time with Houdini.  Let’s talk a little about life.

Sometimes you have to stop in life.  Just stop and breathe for a bit.  Relax a little.  Enjoy your being… your environment.  Know that you are safe.  Know that you are loved.  Know that you are cared for.  Let yourself go and know nothing will happen to you.  You are safe.  You are held and loved.  Your humans would never let anyone or anything harm you in any way.  Sometimes that is the best sleep.  Laying on your mom’s chest.  Hearing her heartbeat matching it to your own.  Thump.thump.thump… slowly and solid hearing her breathe and feeling it on you.  Sighs…a happy life.

Happy Summer

Today is the first day of Summer.  It’s official – it’s time to play in the sun and water my friends.  Vacation is upon us.  A time to rest, relax and let go all of the worries in the world.  Revive our inner child.  Go on my friends.  Go outside and walk in the freshly cut grass – I might even attempt this today… of course with socks on – snorts.  Walk in a creek, get in the ocean or a pool.  And speaking of pools – I’ve gotta go now.  I’ve got to go call talk to that daddy of mine about a pool he should be getting this little oinker!

Have a great day my friends – Happy Summer!

Trains – Don’t Sweat the Small Stuff

Trains are wonderful. Think about them and visual this. Just sit and listen to them passing in your neighborhood, rumbling over the train tracks with the occasional whistling of their horn. It’s kind of relaxing. One of our favorite things when driving and getting stopped at the railroad crossing due to a train, is counting how many railroad cars are behind the locomotive. You must be thinking, “WOW – they live in the deep south if that’s their highlight!” Snorts – but really it can be interesting.

If you have children in the car, it helps with their learning in counting numbers. If it’s just you, it helps to pass the time. I was actually in the car one time with mommy and we got stopped by a train. The big train and the noise of it kept my full attention. I heard mommy counting out loud and do you know she got up to 115 railroad cars! That’s a long train!

We have a train track not too far from the Hotel Thompson. There are trains that pass through historical downtown Jonesboro often at night, usually in the whee hours of the morning. It’s very calming to wake up to this sound.

So the next time you get stopped by a train, don’t get upset. Take the time to relax and count how many railroad cars are behind the locomotive. See if you can beat 115 🙂 wink.

XOXO – Bacon
