Once upon a time, there was a cute little boy and a cute little girl. They grew up relatively in the same area not too far away from each other.

You know what they say about three degrees of separation? It was the same in this situation. They knew some of the same people. He went to a private Christian school that she attended church at during the week. They ate at some of the same restaurants. For all they knew, they might have passed each other during their childhood. It was possible.
They grew up, went through school and college. Until one day, the girl applied for a job at a business that changed the course of her life. She was interviewed by the mother of the boy who took an immediate liking to the girl. In fact the liking was so much that the mother hired the girl for the job having a secret agenda. The secret agenda was to have her son meet this girl and fall in love.

The mother introduced them and they went to lunch together for the first time on September 14, 1988. It was an immediate chemistry and love was in the air. The young boy courted the young girl throughout the years doing everything together. There would be times that one wanted to get married but the other didn’t at the time and vice versa. Not that they didn’t love each other but because they had things they wanted to get done first. You know the things in life like finishing college and getting a solid paying job. But throughout this time, families merged and got to know each other.
The young couple courted for 16 years. Yes my friends, that is not a typo. Life was good. What was the rush? They grew up and got set in their ways. She bought a home and was taking care of herself and he was taking care of his parents and helping them.

Then on Valentine’s day February 14, 2004, the young man got down on one knee and asked THE question, “Will you marry me?” The young girl was shocked and amazed. Her response, “What’s the rush?” A sense of humor that has maintained throughout their relationship – that’s a good thing.
The young girl accepted. A date was discussed. Sadly, the mother of the young man had passed away over the years. In honor of her, they made a date for September 15, 2004.

Now, this is the fun part. Two lives merged as one into ONE household. They said their I do‘s and moved in together for the first time. What a wake up call! PLOL (pig laughing out loud).
Today marks their 13th wedding anniversary or 29 years of being together. Was it easy – nope. Has their been good times and bad times – of course. Every marriage has bumps in the road. It’s how you travel over the bumps to the other side that makes a long lasting relationship. It also helps that both of them have a really wicked sense of humor. I mean look at me. Who do you know would adopt a pig in their lives? Enough said on that.
So today, we at the Hotel Thompson would like to wish mom and dad a Happy Anniversary. Here’s to another 29 years of being together!
Love is patient, love is kind. It does not envy, it does not boast, it is not proud. It does not dishonor others, it is not self-seeking, it is not easily angered, it keeps no record of wrongs. Love does not delight in evil but rejoices with the truth. It always protects, always trusts, always hopes, always perseveres.

Oh my friends – we have an excellent Tale of Terror today on this 13th. It’s so scary, that I scared myself while typing it out for you to read. Are you ready? Do you think you can handle this today? It’s definitely a nail biter. You might want to turn on the lights. Don’t say I didn’t warn you my friends – enjoy.
Becky finally met her one and only – the man of her dreams. Not only was he good on the eyes but he was charming, had a great job and a great home. His house, that he referred to as his ‘bachelor pad’, was just a miniature mansion that had been in the family for years. They had only been dating for nine months but the day Josh proposed to Becky was one of the happiest days of her life…almost. They were in the drawing room and upon her saying yes to his question, a dove flew into the window breaking his neck. Should that have been a sign? A warning of such?
Becky moved into Josh’s home and started making it hers. Little by little, she put a feminine touch on it – adding pictures, flowers and dreaming of the day she would be married to Josh. Once she moved in
though, that’s when the little things started. A slam of a door. A framed picture of her and Josh falling off the wall and across the floor shattering. Cabinet doors opening. Noises. All of this happening when she was alone. It was strange. Even one day when Josh was leaving, he had forgotten his phone. She ran out the front door to give it to him. She could have sworn she saw a woman in the back seat of his car. Was it just her imagination?
Then one night, they were in bed together and something woke her. When she opened her eyes, she could have sworn she saw a woman in a wedding dress walking out of their bedroom. She must have been dreaming… well that’s what she thought anyway.
The next day when Josh came home, he dropped his bag in the living room where she was sitting and a picture almost fell out. She reached down to pick up the picture and it was a woman. Why would her fiancee have a picture of another woman in his bag? She questioned him. That’s when he told her it was his wife. Wife?! His deceased wife. His deceased wife who fell down the stairs and broke her neck in that very house.
Of course that bit of news put a little ice on the situation. The next day after Josh went to work, a neighbor came over to talk to Becky. She told Becky that things weren’t as they appeared. The
deceased wife was a good friend of hers and that was actually her house. Becky didn’t want to believe such things and asked her to leave. Upon her leaving, she gave her a cut out news article telling about the woman’s death and how the husband was actually a suspect. What?! What had she gotten herself into? He couldn’t have been. Instead of leaving, she stayed to discuss this with him. There’s always two sides to every story and she was in love with him.
When he came home, the questions began. He said it was his deceased wife’s house but he inherited it and thus it was a family home. And he was upstairs taking a shower when his wife fell down the stairs. He had nothing to do with it. Would you have believed him?
They went to bed that night and Becky couldn’t sleep. She just stared at him thinking and replaying everything in her mind about the information she had learned. Finally she got up to go downstairs to watch television to get her mind off of the situation. Upon her going down the staircase, she saw what appeared to be a woman laying at the foot of the stairs. The ghost like woman got up and floated up the stairs towards her. She was frozen in fright. The woman stopped in front of her and she could have sworn she heard, “Look in his nightstand”. Then the woman disappeared.
Now, she was not only seeing things she was hearing things? She went back into the bedroom and went to Josh’s nightstand. Taped underneath the top of the shelf of the night stand was an envelope. She quietly removed it and went downstairs to open it in the kitchen. When she did, she took off her engagement ring and left it on the kitchen counter with the paperwork. She left that night with the clothes on her back and never looked back.
What exactly was in the paperwork? It was a life insurance policy on her, Becky, for $250,000.00 – something she didn’t even know Josh had taken out on her.

We at the Hotel Thompson have been advised that Madi at http://downhomeinnc.blogspot.com/ is hosting a Spring Fling today, March 20, 2014. It’s all about love in the air today on this first day of Spring. I got with mom and dad and asked them to tell me the story again about them. It’s one of my favorite bedtime stories that mom tells me at night when she tucks me into bed.
It all started back in 1988. Mom went for an interview at a local company to work for all things an answering service – can you believe that?! There she met this wonderful office manager who hired her on the spot. Mom started work as a telephone operator and within a few short months, she moved up to the billing department.
Mom became close friends with the office manager. Who knew that from the beginning of their meeting, the office manager had plans for my mom. The office manager set her son up (my daddy) with mommy. They went on their first date September 14, 1988 (which happened to be the day before the office manager’s birthday – cool huh?).
That first date started it all for my mommy and daddy. And here’s the kicker. They dated for 16 years before getting married. Can you believe that? At times, mom was ready to get married but dad wasn’t. Then there were times that dad was ready to get married but mom wasn’t. Then there were times that neither wanted to get married – snorts.
But finally on Valentine’s Day, February 14, 2004, dad popped the question to mom. Mom’s answer was priceless, “What’s the rush?! Give me another 16 years and I’ll give you the answer.” Yep, that’s my mommy. She did accept though.
Then, things turned a really rough curve. Dad was involved in a car accident in March 2004. He ended up in ICU at the hospital for almost three months. It was a most horrible time for mom and dad. Thankfully, mom knew dads doctors and they allowed mommy to be with daddy a lot during these times. Daddy almost died three times during these long three months. But in the end, he turned and started to get better.
So during the last week of his time in ICU when he was feeling better, mom got with the family doctor that was involved in dad’s care. The doctor and staff at the hospital watched as mommy did the most amazing thing. She got on her knee in daddy’s room and proposed to daddy – aaww. She said that she didn’t want to wait any longer, she wanted to marry my daddy as soon as she could. He accepted.
He came out of the hospital the beginning of July 2004. This is when he actually moved in with mommy. His house had too many steps and he needed care. Mommy took care of him, got him through rehabilitation and doctor’s appointments. And in the middle of all of this, they put together their wedding. And it was easy setting a date. Over the years, daddy’s mom had passed away. Remember her birthday was September 15, the day before mom and dad’s first date. So it was set. September 15, 2004.
Mom got a beautiful dress. Dad got a handsome tux. Invitations were sent out to sixty of their closest friends. Daddy’s dad, an ordained minister, performed the wedding. And when they were married, they had been dating 16 years. This year, September 14, 2014 will marked their 10th wedding anniversary or what they like to say – 26 years together.

Dear Bacon,
Summer really stinks. It’s totally hot and uncomfortable. All I can do is stand in front of the fan and let the breeze overtake me. I just have to do something to cool me down. Signed Flappy
Dear Flappy,
Hey pal, whatever you need to do to keep you cool I say go for it! Momma is a firm believer in her fan in this hot summer. Can’t we just skip over that season? I’m all for it. Let’s start a petition. What do you think?

Dear Bacon,
Hubba hubba little man. I find you so fascinating. I can’t believe a pig like you is still single. What do you say we fix that problem? Signed I Do
Dear I Do Don’t,
Not that I’m totally not appreciative or anything but I’m just not ready to settle down like that. You’re totally beautiful and I think you will find the perfect pig one day. Don’t give up my friend.
Dear Bacon,
Hey little dude. We just wanted to show you the next happening thing. Us pigs are actually getting tattoos. We think they’re awesome. What do you think. Can we put one on you? Signed Artist
Dear Artist,
HHHMM, I think I’ll pass. I’m sure the tattoo of MOM in a heart would look really awesome on me. I just don’t think that I’m a tattoo kind of pig. But hey, you rock it my friends!

Dear Bacon,
You talk about Mouse Girl the purr thing at the Hotel Thompson a lot of different times. I just want you to know that I think I’m more spoiled than she is. My humans actually dress me. It’s a pain in the rump area but hey it makes them laugh. You ever think about dressing up Mouse Girl? Signed Prissy
Dear Prissy,
First off – you look adorable in your little outfit. Your face doesn’t *look* like you’re enjoying it but hey if the humans are happy, right? Second off – Mouse Girl is a fussy little character. She is strictly daddy’s girl and I just don’t see her letting me ‘dress’ her. I on the other hand let mom dress me up from time to time. Like you said, it makes the humans happy and smile. That’s our jobs!
Dear Bacon,
Have you ever heard of the Red Hat Society? I’m a member and they have monthly meetings. I think you need to look it up in your area and do a posting on it. I think it would be fascinating. Signed Fun Times
Dear Fun Times,
I’ll do that! I’ve heard mom talk about it with her friends. There’s also purple hats, right? 🙂 See, I do pay attention even though sometimes mom doesn’t think so. You wear that hat with pride and look forward to a posting in the future my friend.
