Uh-Oh’s

Last week, I was reading my friends blog at Evil Squirrel’s Nest about doing little projects around the house and how sometimes there are other issues that come from them. This made me think about things here at my crib and how we do little projects, etc.

When mom and dad first started dating – many, many, MANY moons ago – she learned really quickly that dad was not mechanically inclined.  Of course, she learned this the hard way.  You see, she had just gotten her first apartment and she bought a new hand held shower hose for the tub.  She asked daddy to exchange it with the current on the wall nozzle.  It sounded like a simple project.  Where that’s where you would be wrong.  Mom went into the front room and was talking on the phone to her dad while daddy exchanged out the nozzles.  A few minutes went by and mom heard some noise.  No biggy.  That’s when dad walked out of the bathroom, into the living room with his hands behind his back.  He said there was a problem.  Mom told her dad she had to go and daddy showed her what was behind her back.  The old nozzle and part of the wall – so much for being such a ‘simple project’.  Try explaining that situation to the apartment maintenance guy with a bigger project now.  Snorts – LOL

So mom learned early daddy was not the ‘go to’ guy.  Where mom on the other hoof was the project master.  Years later after they were married, mom got a wild hair that they needed to tile the bathtub area.  Mom went out to the local project store, talked with the men, got the supplies and came home telling dad that they were doing this project that weekend – which happened to be the long Thanksgiving holidays.  Daddy was scared while mom was it should be easy. And guess what.  Mom did it with flying colors and it still stands today.  Daddy was shocked that a project came together.  Of course it did – mom was in charge – double snorts.

And over the years, mom has initiated other projects that dad has ‘helped’ on with her that have surpassed what dad thought could actually happen.

So my friends here is the question for the day.  Are your parents do it themselves project makers or disasters in the making?  Do tell and share.

Update on Renovation

Just an update my friends on the renovation hell project here at the Hotel Thompson.  Today marks 11 more days until completion.  I say GET IT DONE ALREADY – snorts.  No really, mom/dad worked on decluttering and purging *all* weekend long.  I have to say, those two put some elbow grease into the destruction remodeling. What do they say, “It always looks the worse before it gets better.”  I sincerely hope so.

This weekend they worked on the closet of the known. You know that closet my friends. The one that you don’t dare open in fear of everything falling out on top of you.  It was three hours of “oh look what I found” – snorts.  Among the things that were found were:

2 boxes of clothes that mom brought to the house when she moved in 16 years ago! 😳

2 deep sea fishing rods and reels – Moby Dick you are safe.

Moms high top Mickey Mouse sneakers from high school.

Dads stereo equipment.

Moms pearls that went missing a couple of years back. Don’t ask how they got into the closet. God only knows.

Mom/dad worked hard on that closet and the rest of the cleaning this weekend. I’m glad to report that after many trips to Goodwill to drop off donations and many bags of trash later, the house is coming together. There was a couple of added things to be done during this renovation and I’ll keep you posted. As it stands right now, the time table still looks good.

Okay Let’s Take a Minute –

This time of year can be how shall I say it … frustrating to say the least.  Just a little bit.  An itsy bitsy small part of being a pain in the lower back side regions.  It’s the time of the year.  Really.  People are shopping for the perfect present either on line or in malls/stores.  Days are short in hours but our lists seem to grow further and further and there is *never* enough time in the day.  Children are still in school with recitals, homework and projects due at the last minute.  At work, end of the year projects and closures for 2013 are in process.  And moms – well they deserve a special medal on top of it all.  They juggle the schedule, work, shop and still come home to make sure everyone eats right.

So bottom line, it can be a total frustrating time of the year.

So instead of steaming up like a train whistle, here’s your chance to get it out of your system.  Let it flow and let it go as mom says.  Here’s your moment – do you have something that is bugging you, getting on your last nerve, stressing you out?  Let it out.  Post away.  I’m hear for you and will listen.  Get it off your chest.  My mommy volunteered to go first. 🙂

“Hi, my name is June.  I’m Bacon’s mom and I have stress.  Admission is the first step and I’m here with it.  You know what perturbs me?  Let me tell you.

First off – I’ve been looking at a Mickey Mouse purse on line (go figure, right).  I took the chance of waiting to see if the price would go down.  It did.  And so did all of the stock 😦

Second off – I’m sure others can relate to this one.  Drive thrus – is that enough said?  LOL  I *hate* it when you go through a drive thru, order a drink and they give you two pieces of ice – so frustrating.  What’s more frustrating?  Getting to work with that nice refreshing cool coke only to realize in your first sip that the CO2 is out or something and it is .A.W.F.U.L.”

So go my friends – let it out.  I’m here for you to listen.
