National Junk Food Day

I think this is a day that we *all* have been looking forward to all year long – National Junk Food Day.  Today, July 21st, we can eat all of the junk we want – hopefully without calories!  Today being National Junk Food Day gives us a chance to eat anything and everything we can put our greedy little hands/paws/hooves on and not feel one bit of guilt.  Potato chips, dips, Cheetos, pretzels, ice cream, nuts, french fries, milkshakes, pizza – what’s your pleasure for today?

Personally, I think today is going to be a race here at the Hotel Thompson to see who can eat more junk food – Bacon or his daddy… oh and don’t think Bacon’s mom won’t participate.  She’s been doing that four lettered bad word – DIEt – I’m sure she will enjoy her own as well!

Strange Combinations

Okay my friends.  Let’s discuss weird food combinations.  What foods do you mix together that *you* think is so good but somebody else would say eeeww nasty?

I’ll start – snorts with piggy laughter.  When mom/dad go to the movies, which is infrequent but does happen, mom has to have popcorn while dad is a huge nacho fan.  Dad will dip his nacho in his cheese and then put the cheesy nacho in mom’s popcorn to pick up some popcorn before eating it.  Can you see his nacho in mom’s popcorn.  Disgusting huh?  I haven’t seen such a disgrace since peanut butter bumped into chocolate.. oh wait a minute.  I do like that combination.

Then there’s mom who when she fixes tuna for sandwiches, cuts up green olives with the pimentos and throws it into the mix.

Another thing that mom does – when she fixes a peanut butter sandwich, she crumbles up plain potato chips and puts inside of the sandwich. Yep, inside of the sandwich.  Shakes piggy head.  Unbelievable huh?

So what do your humans fix that seems weird.  Please share.  My humans can’t be the only strange ones.

National Potato Chip Day

March 14 is NATIONAL POTATO CHIP DAY. National Potato Chip Day celebrates the ever popular snack food potato chips. It’s a convenient snack food or a side dish to a sandwich at lunch or dinner. They come in different flavors ranging from plain to barbeque to sour cream and onion. There’s such a wide range! They come regular, crinkled, in sticks, in a bag or in a can. You can buy them in the stores or you can make your own with fresh potatoes.

Did you know that potato chips were first made by Chef George Crum in Saratoga Springs, New York on August 24, 1953. Story goes that the Chef was agitated by a patron who repeatedly kept sending his fried potatoes back because they were too soggy and bland. The Chef decided to slice the potatoes as thin as possible, fry them until they were crisp and season them with extra salt. Contrary to the Chef’s expectation, the patron loved them! They soon became a regular item called Saratoga Chips on the menu at the restaurant. Americans have been in love with them ever since!

And, did you know that pig Bacon absolutely LOVES potato chips? Excuse Bacon’s dad for his lack of clothing – HA! and concentrate on that little deviled ham begging for more chips. I like to hear the little fellow crunching them. Enjoy – roll tape –

Mom – NO YOU DIDN’T!

The other night when mom got home from the worky place, she put her purse on the floor in order to greet us anipals here at the Hotel Thompson.  Well, she forgot about it when she went to go change clothes.  Houdini smelled something coming from her purse.  I gotta say, that dog has a great sniffer.  Well me and the little guy went over to mom’s purse to check out this smell.  That’s when we found it.  How could you mom?  How in the world could you?

What was she thinking with this so called chocolate bar – Pigs N’ Taters?  Are you out of your ever lasting human mind?  PIGS N’ TATERS!?  Do I need to even ask where you got this and how exactly it was made?  And don’t tell me you enjoy things like this mother of mine.  Really?  What’s a piggy to do with the findings of this exhibit?  I’m thinking mom needs to be grounded.  I haven’t been this humiliated since daddy brought home bacon flavored cheese doodles.  Shakes piggy head and walks off in disgust.

Mission: Gold Fish Incognito

Dear Humans of the Hotel Thompson –

Your pig needs help.  Yeah, that’s it.  Your pig needs help.  May us Gold Fish suggest GFA (Gold Fish Anonymous).  They have a quick 3 step program for peeps addicted to us crackers.  Really, we have feelings too.  We are just swimming here in our world when all of a sudden we are plucked from our families to enter your belly.  May we also suggest popcorn, nuts or maybe potato chips if you are not watching your waist lines.  They are way more tasty than us cheese flavored morsels of fish that you tend to eat by the handfuls.  We are just trying to help out.  Perhaps you can try the Gold Fish Challenge – yeah that sounds awesome.  Put all of us in a gold fish bowl and see how long you can resist us – I betcha you can go a long time my oinker pal.  Really, I have that much faith in you.

Signed, Gold Fish with a Cause 🙂

When Pigs Fly

Oh squeals!  I was watching television this past weekend resting up from the renovation here and I saw it.  Something that was so fantastic – so glorious – so out of this world.  I just *had* to share.  Squeals – I can do this.  I can do this!

National Cheese Doodle Day

Today, March 5, is National Cheese Doodle Day. This is totally awesome. Everyone likes cheese doodles – from humans to animals. They are made with cornmeal that has been puffed, baked and coated with a wonderful cheddar cheese. Some even have white cheese these days. Do you know who invented the cheese doodle? It was Morrie Yahai in the 1940’s. After serving as a Marine in World War II, he returned to his home in the Bronx and took over the family business – a snack food company called Old London Foods.

During the 1960’s, the Wise Foods Inc acquired the company and here you go – they are now part of the potato chip division of snacks. And did you know that in the Wise Foods, cheese doodles are one of the strongest brands and they produce over 15 million pounds of cheese doodles every year!

Even the pig enjoys his cheese doodles. Do you want to see? Okay – here you go. Enjoy this fine video that Bacon’s mom made back in the day. Roll tape –
