Spotlight Thursday – Meet Jazz

Spotlight Thursday

Welcome my friends to SPOTLIGHT THURSDAY.  This is the time that I will introduce you to one of my fellow anipals so you can get to know them better.  Some of them, you may already know.  We hope that you enjoy this series!

Name:  Jazz (nickname, “Jazzbo”)

Age:  14 ½  years

Location:  Colorado

Web/Blog Page:  https://peacewithmylife.com/

What were your first thoughts when you met your new parents?  I was pretty excited over everything back then. Mom thought I had had cute curls on my butt, and I knew these were the people for me. They adored my handsome poodle curls!

What was the defining moment when you knew you were in your forever home?  My parents were determined that I was not going to sleep in their bed. The first night, they had a sleeping area all set up for me and turned out the light. I cried and cried. I missed my littermates, my mom, my dad, and my grandparents. I was not used to being alone. When dad relented and let me into bed, I knew that these people needed me to teach them the true Way of the Dog. I was needed here. We slept soundly in bed together, and I’ve slept with them ever since. That’s when I knew that this was the place where I was needed most.

What has been your biggest “Oh no, now I’ve done it” moment so far in your home?  (*cough, cough*) I’ve always been perfect; there has been no naughtiness. Of course, I could always blame any accidents on Nutty, until he passed away in January. (*Looks down and away*) Now, I think the parents could be catching on how naughty I can be, but I’m not going to self-incriminate myself!

Who do you have wrapped around your paws more – mom or dad – and why? I’d have to say, Mom. I’m special to both my parents, but Mom really depends on me to keep her happy. All the dogs here have a job, and I’m mom’s personal counselor. We snuggle all night long every night. I love dad, too, but he doesn’t need me quite as much. All I have to do is whine a little, and mom knows what I need (*hair flip*). We understand each other.

What’s the biggest misconception that humans think about you?  They sometimes forget that I’m old and things are getting hard for me. Since I’m almost blind and absolutely deaf, they can easily give me the slip if they move through the house so fast. They will find me wandering the house looking for them. Mom gets me acupuncture, chiropractics, and medication, and feeds me healthy food, but sometimes she forgets to be sure I’m with her. I follow her all over the house because I never know when she’s going to need me. I want to be there for her, but sometimes It’s hard to keep up.

Hope you enjoyed meeting my friend – check back next week for another Spotlight edition!

Spotlight Thursday – Meet Monika and Sam

Spotlight Thursday

Welcome my friends to SPOTLIGHT THURSDAY.  This is the time that I will introduce you to one of my fellow anipals so you can get to know them better.  Some of them, you may already know.  We hope that you enjoy this new series!

Name: Monika & Sam

Age:  Sam is 10 and I’m old as dirt [snicker]

Location:   The Mile High City…Denver, CO

Web/Blog Page:  Tails Around the Ranch

What were your first thoughts when you met your new parents?  Yikes! Youre letting me go home with this woman? Whats wrong with you? Sam was clearly flummoxed by the thought of going home with a new family especially one who lived in a large metropolis area-he grew up on a farm and knew nothing about sidewalks, gutters, streets, passing traffic (buses in particular), strollers, sandwich boards in our neighborhood restaurant area, skateboards.

What was the defining moment when you knew you were in your forever home?  To his credit, Sam adapted quickly-he insinuated himself early on as a bed hog, taking up residence on one of the sheepdogs’ bed right away. She of course put him straight in no time just like she did with her brother,’ Eliot, the male Old English Sheepdog. When both OESs were alive, Puck ruled the roost but Sam completely adored her and still does double takes whenever he sees OESs out and about. 🙂

What has been your biggest “Oh no, now I’ve done it” moment so far in your home?  Not much seems to bother Sam, and remorse is strictly a word/concept  in the dictionary (Standard Poodles are more than slightly self-assured) but he seems particularly terrified of the chirping smoke alarm with his begging eyes for me to stop that infernal racket. He does seem to have a penchant for chewing up expensive and/or sentimental leather goods. I’ve had to keep track of ‘quiet times’ and put up leather wallets, daytimers and small handbags so they are out of the reach of curious sniffers

Who do you have wrapped around your paws more – mom or dad – and why?  Even with the novelty of Dad who recently joined our household, he’s pretty much has both of us wrapped around his paw. He totally has everyone he meets wrapped around his paws with his sweet disposition and goofiness. You cant help but adore this canine knucklehead; he has such an adorable personality.

What’s the biggest misconception that humans think about you?  I always get accused of being dumb but I think theres a fine line between being dumb and been stubborn. I think I jump back and forth across that line every day with adroit athleticism 🙂
