Pay it Forward – REMINDER

Okay Friends – Here We Go!

My sweet friends at Nikitaland have started this monthly issue of Pay It Forward.  We asked for you to keep this in mind all month and to share things here today on what you have been able to do.  Paying it forward is not for bragging purposes – it’s an attempt to show how many different things we can do to pay it forward – lots of them don’t even include money.  Gestures that we take for granted may be a God send to another person.

.

It’s time to start working on another awesome month of Paying it Forward.

This month mom is going to challenge you again to pick one day and give every person you meet some type of compliment.  Whether it be they look terrific, they did a great job, they are a great friend, hold the door open for them and talk to them about having a great day.  Tell everyone something for one entire day.  Do YOU accept this personal challenge?

My buddy Nikitaland made up a good deeds sheet.  You can get it here.  You can print it, hang it on your fridge and just jot some things down that you do during the month.  That way at our next meet up, you can share what you have done to PAY IT FORWARD.

AND if you are interested in getting some Pay it Forward bracelets, check out Nikitaland’s post here for ordering information.  Believe me friends – WE CAN ALL MAKE A DIFFERENCE!

Next meet up will be September 2, 2015 – mark your calendars!

This month seemed like the longest month, didn’t it?  Did you accept my challenge this month?  To give out compliments to everyone you met for an entire day?

I picked to do it on a Monday.  Why Monday?  Because doesn’t everyone kind of hate Monday because it creeps in after the weekend and most of us have to go back to work.  I had made a basket full of treats to hand out as well 🙂

I hit a drive thru on the way in to work and paid for the guy’s breakfast behind me.  I asked the cashier to give him a card that talked about how much people really do care and for him to have a great day.  Then, I told the cashier/person who gave me my breakfast to have an awesome day and complimented their smile.  It’s usually the same lady that waits on me every morning at the drive thru at my local McDonalds.  They are *always* cheerful.  I gave them a small card with a Mounds candy bar.  The card explained that THEY make a mounds of difference in my life every day.

Then at work, I spoke with our mailman who after giving me our mail I gave him a card with a pack of Reeses Pieces candies in it.  On his card, I told him that he made the pieces fall together for me every morning by delivering our mail with a smile.

It was the little things like this that I continued on for the entire day.  Some cards that I passed out just stressed how important that person was in my life and how they brightened my day.  Other cards had different assorted candies in them for people that touched my life more every day.  Overall, I think people were really touched over the kindness.  And you know what?  It made *me* feel better about me.  Why?  Because life isn’t all about us – it involves everyone that we pass and see.  With a card, a piece of candy or a smile and simple gesture of holding a door or giving a hug.  You *never* know when that person needs a little something that day.

It’s just like this blog.  My friends, you think that I’m entertaining YOU and making you laugh with the antics of the Hotel Thompson.  But you know what is really happening?  YOU MY FRIENDS are making MY DAY with your friendship, your love and your unconditional support in my writing.  For that, I say THANK YOU.

THANK YOU!!

So my friends.  What did you do this month to bring a smile to someone’s face?

This month there are a couple of things that took place here at the Hotel Thompson.  Of course, mom did her comparison test between Albert and Tank and bought meals for two different peeps in drive thrus.  That’s just her little way of giving.

Daddy brought the garbage can up for a neighbor.

Mom sent three random cards to people in her life for no apparent reason except to say that they were loved 🙂  I hope they enjoyed them and it made them smile at least for a few minutes.

Here’s a funny one.  Mom is in weekly tournaments in two games that she plays.  This week, she didn’t battle to be the winner.  She shared the glory and took the back seat for a change.  This doesn’t sound like a big deal but you gotta know my mom.  She is a HUGE competitor in her weekly challenges – snorts.

And last Friday, mom made a big challenge for herself.  Everyone that she met, she made a compliment to them about something related to them.  Whether they looked nice, had a great laugh, smelled good or did a great job, she told them something to make their day.

Thanks my friends for reading and supporting the Pay it Forward mission.  What did YOU do this month to make a difference?  Please post on your page and link back so everyone can see that it takes everyone making a small part to do a great dent!  And remember, it’s little things that add up to make someone’s day.  It doesn’t have to cost money or be a huge endeavor.  You can’t begin to realize what a smile can do for someone that really needs it that day.

I challenge you for the month of July to have a compliment day.  Compliment everyone that you meet in something that is special.  Do you accept the challenge?

My buddy Nikitaland made up a good deeds sheet.  You can get it here.  You can print it, hang it on your fridge and just jot some things down that you do during the month.  That way at our next meet up, you can share what you have done to PAY IT FORWARD.

This month we had a really, REALLY touching Pay it Forward.  Mom went to the local drive thru for breakfast one morning like she normally does.  She always tries to pick someone behind her that she will pay for their breakfast as well.  This month on one trip, there was an older gentleman in the car behind her that she picked.  She left the restaurant and continued to work getting stopped at a red light.  The gentleman followed her and stopped right beside her rolling down his window to get her attention.  He was crying and so very grateful for mom paying for his breakfast.  It made his day that much.  Such a little gesture of kindness made this man’s day so much he was crying!  Of course, that started mommy crying too.

You *never* know what a simple act of kindness means to someone in need.  My mommy says that there has been times in the past where she has been totally down and depressed thinking that not a person in the world cared.  All it would have taken was one act of kindness to make the world to her – a breakfast, opening the door for someone, saying hello, a phone call, a card or just a hug.  Little things can mean so much without any forms of money.  We must remember this for next month’s posting my friends! 🙂

April was a busy month for my mommy.  There was the renovation going on here at the Hotel Thompson and that kept her and dad busy a lot of the time.  But still, mom and dad did find time to do some special things for the month that I’m going to share with you.

Mom always makes it a point to buy someone’s breakfast at a local drive thru in the morning.  This month, she picked a random person behind her at the Chick-Fil-A restaurant close to our house.  She always leaves them one of my business cards to say “Have a good day – remember to pay it forward”.  Sometimes, she gets a thank you email and sometimes she doesn’t.  This month, she didn’t 🙂 But I’m sure the person appreciated breakfast on us.

Mom and dad go to our local Cracker Barrel a lot of times for dinner.  I personally think it’s because they like to order off the kid’s menu – snorts.  Imagine that.  Two adults eating off the kids selection.  Hilarious I’m telling you.  So one night mom and dad went and the parking lot was packed.  So much so that two women weren’t really looking and almost walked out in front of mom’s Smart car Albert.  Now mom beeped the horn and both women stopped, turned around and then started laughing.  This small little car almost rammed them down.  So funny.  But mom/dad when they got into the restaurant, saw these two women sitting at a table.  Mom went over and said that she wasn’t trying to mow them down and hoped they were okay.  Of course they were… but one said she might have pulled something from laughing so hard at Albert – snorts.  Mom sent them over a dessert on her – you know – just in case she needed some chocolate medicine to help with the healing. 🙂

Mom and dad also did some major giving in the forms of donations to Goodwill and the Salvation Army.  During their renovation, they got rid of the huge butcher block kitchen table, all of the kitchen chairs, the entertainment center, the hutch and matching butcher block china cabinet, the sofa and the love seat.  Not to mention little odds and ends like shoes, clothes, a bunch of lighthouse items, over 200 VHS tapes and over 100 Playstation games.  It was a HUGE cleaning out that all went to great causes for sure.

So that’s it for mom/dad this month.
