This Is Me Being Serious

Something happened last night.  We had friends over and of course you know I had to put on a performance – snorts.  Hey, it’s what I do.  The topic turned to my blog. We all took turns reading past articles from it and snorting – alcohol may have been involved with the humans – snorts.  Our friends made the comment that *I* could not be serious.  What?  Is that a dare?  Cause you know it sounded like a dare to this little oinker. So today, I will be serious.  This post will be about something that happened to me and mom this morning.  You just read and see.  Cough-cough-oink-snort- here comes my serious side.  Stop laughing.  I’m being serious.

This morning instead of me getting mom up for breakfast, she woke me up for a change.  It was early.  I couldn’t understand why.  She told me that she had to show me something that was special.  Something without electronics, without technology, with just me and her alone.  I just looked at her and yawned but hey I was game.  We walked to the kitchen and I sat on the floor yawning while mom fixed her a cup of coffee.  Then we did something strange.  We went out the back door of the Hotel Thompson.  The back door leads us to my backyard… my kingdom that I like to call it.

We sat down on the deck, mom cross-legged and I climbed up in her lap.  I kept looking at her waiting for an explanation.  It was dark out here overlooking my magical backyard and it was kind of chilly.  I couldn’t see anything but darkness.    Mom told me, “Wait for it Bacon.”  Wait for what?  I sat and continue to listen.  That’s when I noticed the sounds.

I could hear crickets.  I could hear frogs near the swamp.  I could hear a dog barking in the neighborhood.  I could hear Journalist Rocky the Squirrel chatting away with his family in the trees.  I even started hearing birds chirp.  WOW – I’ve never heard these noises so close before.  Then I started to hear a rooster a couple of doors down.  I looked at mom in complete awe and amazement.  She told me, “It’s not done yet Bacon. Keep waiting for it.”  Again this wait for it.  Wait for what?  What could be that interesting to get up at this ungodly hour?  Then there was a shift in the atmosphere.  Something changed but I couldn’t put my hoof on it.

I slowly got up out of mom’s lap and walked to the edge of the deck overlooking my backyard kingdom.  That’s when I saw it.  I looked at mom and she looked at me.  The blackness of the night started slowly fading away.  A white tinge was started to peak out from the night.  It was slow at first but as we watched minute by minute it started getting lighter outside.  Before I knew it, the night time had disappeared and the daylight had appeared out of nowhere.  WOW!  I could see my magical backyard in full light.  I looked at mom, did a little wiggle and pleaded, “Do it again mom!”  I went back and snuggled up in mom’s lap again.  We sat there for a long time, mom drinking her coffee petting me and I looking at the amazement of another great day.

Happy Summer

Today is the first day of Summer.  It’s official – it’s time to play in the sun and water my friends.  Vacation is upon us.  A time to rest, relax and let go all of the worries in the world.  Revive our inner child.  Go on my friends.  Go outside and walk in the freshly cut grass – I might even attempt this today… of course with socks on – snorts.  Walk in a creek, get in the ocean or a pool.  And speaking of pools – I’ve gotta go now.  I’ve got to go call talk to that daddy of mine about a pool he should be getting this little oinker!

Have a great day my friends – Happy Summer!

It *IS* That Time of the Year – YIKES!

This past weekend mom was outside minding her own business.  She was just innocently walking to the mailbox perhaps even whistling. When out of the blue – BAM!  Something hit the back of her head.  She ran her fingers through her hair, didn’t feel anything and kept going.  She didn’t think twice about it while she was running her errands.

But as the day went on, she started getting a headache.  There seemed to be a lot of pressure in the back of her head.  She reached up to give it a feel and WOW!  There was a huge bump back there and her head felt slightly swollen.  It also hurt to touch.  What in the world happened?

She went and showed it to daddy.  He felt it and gave her his best advice, “Call the nurse hotline.”  Mom called the nurse hotline and told them what happened.  Well, it is that time of the year when all of the bugs come out in nature.  They think she possibly got bit by a bee or wasp.  She took some benadryl and the swelling has went down some.  You can still feel a little bump on the back of her head but the headache is nothing as bad as it was.

So friends with two or four legs if you are out in nature, please be wary of these winged creatures who like to hit it and run.

You Know What They Say…

Do you know what they say about the grass is always greener on the other side?  Or here’s another one – be careful what you wish for?  Yeah, I think I stepped four hooves right into this problem.  I wanted Spring.  Spring is here.  The weather is warmer than Winter… there’s a nice breeze outside… the birds are chirping… the grass is green.  What could be wrong you ask?

One word.

Yep, that six lettered dirty word – POLLEN.  In the south, it’s bad.  I mean really bad.  Today’s forecast:

Total Pollen Count for 4/11/2014: 4054

That’s really high.  That means everything is yellow… or like mom calls it pollinated.   The itchy, watery eyes.  The sneezing.  The can’t breathe because your throat is full of pollen.  And, you can taste it.  Really, you can.  Who wants to go outside and roll around in the grass with all of this out there?  Perhaps I should have been more specific with Mother Nature about Spring?  Daddy has to wear a mask outside when he ventures out.  Between us – he kind of looks like a human wearing a snout – snorts.  And snouts – I’m not going out in my magical backyard until this pollen goes away.  I don’t care how much the unicorn and bigfoot plead for to come play.

Do you have pollen?  Are you a sufferer?  They say it will last for a couple of weeks until everything ‘blooms’.  Until then, welcome to Sprinollen… yep that’s what I’m going to call it.

Hotel Thompson Accomodations

Sometimes the funniest things happen here at the Hotel Thompson.  Sometimes they are just too good to pass up.  It’s taken me all week to get myself together to post this blog.  Let me start at the beginning shall we.

On Friday nights, it’s not unusual for us to stay up late here and watch television shows… especially b-rated movies.  Rolls piggy eyes – sometimes those are so hilarious to watch.  Mom and dad usually let me stay up late with them until I get too tired.  This past Friday night was no exception.

We all stayed up until around 2AM.  Hard to believe my humans can stay up that late isn’t it?  Snorts.  We all got ready in our separate beds in our separate rooms.  Just about the time our heads touched the pillows, we were asleep.

Then around 3:30AM, it started.  Mouse Girl and Hemi, the two purr things here at the Hotel Thompson, thought it was an ideal time to sing to their people.  They were in the hallway where the acoustics are the best.  They sung and it echoed.  They sung and it still echoed.  Neither one of them have done this in sometime.  But it woke me up first.  So I do what I do best.  I started squealing.  Mom and dad thought I was joining in but I wasn’t.  I was telling the Purr Choir to shut it up because I need my beauty sleep.  But they didn’t.

They then woke up mom and dad.  Of course they played rock, paper or scissors to see which one would get up out of their comfy cozy bed to put a stop to the live orchestra.  Daddy loss – snorts.  He broke up the duo, gave them a treat and went back to bed.

.

Maybe thirty minutes later, Hemi decided to join them in bed.  He does this every night so it’s no big deal.  Hemi climbs up between mom and dad, settles in and snuggles to sleep.  But nope, not this night.  He was W.I.R.E.D.  I don’t know what he got into but he was jumping off mom, dad, the nightstands and the television stand.  Shakes piggy head.  So guess who got banished from the bedroom?  Yep, Hemi.

They thought then that everything was good and they could settle.  That’s when Mouse Girl tag teamed into the bedroom.  She has nerve after all of this to do her share of trouble.  She went into the bedroom and proceeded to knock everything off of the television stand and nightstands.  She got the wrath of mom and also got banished from the bedroom.

You would think that poor mom and dad had enough.  They did get a couple of hours asleep.  Then around 6:30AM something unnatural woke them both up.  Something we haven’t heard all Winter.  Something that sounds so beautiful – normally – but at the butt crack of dawn was like fingernails on a chalkboard.  There was a cute little bird that was right outside their bedroom window singing like there was no tomorrow.

I heard daddy ask mommy, “What kind of insane bird chirps before daylight?”  Mom’s reply, “A dead one.”  Snorts.  Of course she wouldn’t harm that little tweet bird.  But, it was a hilarious for this little piggy to hear.  I wonder if they will go to bed late tonight?  I got $20.00 on the birdy before dawn – you?  Snorts

I’ve Created a New Season – Happy Sprinter

This picture is from Wikipedia.  It shows the typical seasons – Spring, Summer, Fall and then Winter.  That’s the way it’s suppose to fall.  But this year, dear old Mother Nature is not playing fairly.  Mommy says she needs hormone shots and daddy says she needs more dates with Father Time.  I’m not sure which one is right.  I just know that maybe she needs a kick in the butt.  Yep, I said.  I kick right smack in the middle of her captains quarters.

You see, this weekend is what I’m talking about.  Saturday here at the Hotel Thompson we get up and it is beautiful.  There’s no other way to put it.  The birds are chirping (and that’s a story for another time – snorts), the sun is out, the wind is just right and the temperatures are in the 60’s.  You couldn’t ask for a more gorgeous day.  Mom and me went out to wash her Smart car Albert.  It only took less than five minutes by throwing a cup of water at it – snorts.  I kill myself.

20140112-143627.jpg

Our neighbor Big Daddy had cut our yard and the back yard was spectacular.  Thanks Big Daddy!  We went out there and ran for a while.  Mommy says it was for me to get some sun and I said I understood.  Secretly I knew she wanted me to run some excess Winter weight off so I would sleep more deeply tonight.  I’m good with that.  I just wonder why she didn’t make daddy do the same.  Double snorts.

It was a wonderful day.  Lots of running, loving and snuggles.

Then BAM!  What a change Sunday.  Sunday brought us rain, cool weather and strong winds.  We could actually sit inside and hear the winds!  We all got up and had breakfast together.  It was so damp and yuck outside that after breakfast, we all went back to bed.  Now, I’m not hating days like this because usually, like this day, when we go back to bed we all get on the Select Comfort for a siesta.  It was great.

Picture this.  A king sized Select Comfort bed with two humans, two purr things and a piggy.  Snorts, I’m a 65 with mommy on the Select Comfort.  Daddy and the purr things are a 100.  That’s just too hard for this little oinker.  When we got up from our nap, it was still yuck outside.

Now, I’m telling you all of this for a reason.  It’s suppose to be Spring but it still acts like Winter.  I’m suggesting a new season called – Sprinter.  You get it?  Spring with Winter.  So sometime today, tell someone Happy Sprinter.  Then smile and remember my little story here.  🙂

Happy Sprinter my pals!

Dear Bacon

20140112-003450.jpgDear Bacon,

Have you ever had one of those moments when you just want to pull the covers over your head and stay in bed?  Signed Sleepy Kitty

Dear Sleepy Kitty,
Oh my friend.  I have those moments for sure.  There’s no reason why you can’t just do that.  Stay in bed for a bit longer and sleep.  The day will be waiting for you when you get up.

Dear Bacon,

I think for the Olympics this year, they need to have bunny jumping.  I’ve been practicing all of my life.  Don’t you think it would be awesome to watch?  Signed BunBun

Dear BunBun,
I think it would be totally fun to watch.  I would be glued to the television watching you scale those poles.  You got some really get thrust in flying over them my friend.  I would definitely give you a score of 10!  Keep flying my super hero!

Dear Bacon,

I know it’s cold to you and I’ll tell you it is for us as well that live outdoors.  But I thought I would let you in on a secret.  When it’s really cold and I think I can’t go on, I close my eyes tight and dream of somewhere warm.  I imagine the heat hitting me all over my body and it feels so toasty warm.  The next time you are cold, try it and see how you feel.  Signed Rabbit Muse

Dear Rabbit Muse,
You may have something there my friend.  I will definitely remember this and do it the next time I am cold.  You try to stay warm out there.  If it gets too bad, look me up.  I’ll gladly let you in over night 🙂

Dear Bacon,

They say that after you have been with your humans for a while, you start looking like each other.  I think my human has rubbed off on my slightly. I’m cool with that.  You should see my human.  He says I’ve rubbed off on him as well  Signed Domguise

Dear Domguise,
WOW.  That’s all I gotta say.  If this is what has happened to you, I can only imagine what your human looks like.  You do make the look though my friend.  Really, you do.  Take care.

Dear Bacon,

Don’t let my size and cute looks fool you.  I’m one crazy and tough quack.  This is a deadly beak and I can take care of myself.  Whatcha looking at pig?  Signed Duck Off

Dear Duck Off,
Hey, no problems here my friend.  I know when I’m up against a touch quacker.  I think it’s in your beady eyes that you mean business and will not put up with any crap from anyone.  Shivers – you scare me.  You really do.

Standing in Line

All I have to say is thank goodness this little piggy is house trained and I have a huge magical backyard.  I don’t think I could take standing in line to go tinkle.  Mom said that humans even stand in line for this.  WOW – bless your hearts!  I guess we need more trees for you humans.  Snorts

How Cold Is It?

20140107-081641.jpg

I’ve said it before and I’ll say it again.  I’m from the south.  We don’t really get that much cold.  But when we do get cold, have mercy on our little souls!  We don’t know how to act in the cold let alone a snowflake.  It’s cold here!  Yesterday morning, it was in the single digits.  Did you read that – S.I.N.G.L.E. digits.  That is unreal.  Mother Nature doesn’t need to be playing these kinds of tricks on us.  My mom, she likes cooler weather but even she wore an actual coat outside yesterday in those single digits.  And by this weekend, they say we will be in a heatwave in the 60’s!  Now that kind of ‘cold’ weather I can deal with.

20140107-081614.jpg

This little piggy, I don’t like the cold period. Mommy actually opened the back door and wanted me to go outside to use the bathroom like a common piggy and look at nature.  Really mom?  Now you are going to push the issue.  I told her my behinney would freeze off and then late last night I found this picture to the left.  It’s true.  My little behinney would fall off outside in the cool air.  Right?  Daddy laughed at mom.  She told him that she just wanted to show me the ice and how cold it was.  Mom, here’s a heads up.  If I want to see ice, I’ll break into the freezer again in the kitchen, okay.  Okay.

Stay warm my friends!

Someone is Waiting for Bashful’s Return

20131209-013011.jpg

Watch out Bimby in Australia – I think you may have some competition here at the Hotel Thompson with Princess Coralena.  I went to the back door to look out over my kingdom this past weekend and saw this.  Princess Coralena was outside sunbathing.  She mentioned that the cold is good for her coral complexion.

I couldn’t wait to run back inside and tell mom that Princess Coralena was outside in her skippies… of course after I snapped a picture… or two of her.

I think Bashful may have his pebbles full when he comes home with her.  I think she means business.  You?
