Happy National Cereal Day

Journalist Rocky the Squirrel here –

keeping his paws on the nuts of the world –

March 7 is NATIONAL CEREAL DAY.. you know breakfast cereal. Did you know that cereal is the most convenient form of breakfast? It’s quick and easy. Get a bowl, pour cereal, top with milk and enjoy! And, there’s so many different kinds of cereal out there! You can add fruit to it. You can top it with nuts or raisins. You can top it with granola. You can even add honey, maple syrup or crushed fruit. However you eat it, it can be a delicious way to start your day or end your day.

Now, I know this is going to be hard to believe but hang with me for just a minute.  That pig – you know the one they call Bacon on this blog.  This is a picture of his piggy chow in his breakfast bowl that he gets every morning.  Do you know what the little oinker has on top of his piggy chow?  Anyone – anyone at all?  Cheerios!  Can you believe that?!  Even Bacon will be enjoying this day like all others with a topping of Cheerios on his piggy chow.  He doesn’t care what kind, he likes them all!  Regular, chocolate, banana nut, multi-grain, dulce de leche, peanut butter – all of them!

I mean think about it.  Cheerios are not just for the heart conscious adults – it’s for the little man too.  He has to watch his heart and health so he can be here for a very long time as well.  Bacon and his mom eat their Cheerios together every morning… of course his mother doesn’t have piggy chow added to hers which is good to know.

So on this National Cereal Day, enjoy a nice bowl of cereal – perhaps even Cheerios and think about the little pig.

Hemi and Daddy Bonding – Snorts

20130624-231939.jpg

To say that us anipals control and walk all over the humans here at the Hotel Thompson is kind of an understatement.  Last night, we all snuggled into the king size Select Comfort bed.  Hemi slept ‘with’ daddy.  Their setting is 100 – ha!  Me and mom kind of like it a little softer.  Our setting is a 50.  You gotta love the Select Comfort!  Mouse Girl she sleeps in her little princess bed on the floor.  She is such a girl!  And Houdini – he was right there with me and mom – a perfect 50 setting.

Notice Hemi’s position on TOP of daddy.  This is how he beds down.  Personally I think Hemi believes that daddy is his mattress.  He sleeps like this all of the time.  He often will reach his paw out and touch daddy on the face.

Sometimes, he will drift over for some mommy loving but we all know that Hemi is daddy’s little boy just like I’m mommy’s boy.  Humans are not the only ones that pick favorites – us animals do as well.  But to us, it’s a little different.  We know who we can wrap around our hooves and paws – 🙂 Would we do that?

And you didn’t think that Hemi sleeps like this?  Just check out this bottom picture. The proof is in the picture.  He’s actually comfortable.  Touching dad’s face, his eyes closed and dreaming of chasing Journalist Rocky the Squirrel in the backyard.

But I have to ask you this – look at that paw?!  Do you understand what I mean now when I tell you it hurts when he slaps this little oinker on the fanny?  Snorts PLOL (Pig Laughing out Loud)!

Open Apology to Mom

Okay all of us anipals here at the Hotel Thompson are writing this to mom as an open apology for our misbehavior this morning.  We apologize and will try very hard not to let it happen again.  Really.  We will.  So let us explain our behavior my friends.

First up.  Mom is not a morning person.  Not at all.  We are talking zombie before coffee – no coffee no talkie.  Well this morning, rolls piggy eyes and looks innocent, someone set the alarm to zero five hundred dark in the woods time to get up… something about trying to be the first to check in with cousin Sammy’s Tuesday Teaser. (And no I wasn’t first – darn it and shuffles hooves).  Well after I checked in, I went back to sleep in the big bed – see me here in the picture.  Mom was not amused.  She got up, went to the bathroom, mumbled about who in their right mind would change the alarm clock and then went back to bed for a few minutes.  Unfortunately that’s when she fell asleep and that’s bad.  Bad because today is a worky day and she has to go that worky place.  And the alarm clock already went off.  This is not good.

A couple of hours later, mom wakes up because Hemi is rolling around on her side.  That’s when she notices that it is awfully lit inside of the room.  She sits up and oh.my.gosh.it’s.a.run.for.your.money because it’s almost 8:00AM.  What the cream cheese?  What happened?  I know – I know – “someone set the alarm to zero five hundred dark in the woods time to get up”.

She jumps out of bed, tells daddy she’s running late and starts the marathon.  But of course we are all standing there looking at her like, “Hey, remember us?”  You know that pitiful look of we have never eaten before and are starving – snorts.  And did you know there is a reason why we anipals get up in shifts in the morning for feeding.  You see, I need to eat first.  It’s just the way it is.  Once you satisfy my rumbling belly with my piggy chow and Cheerio’s, I’ll go back to sleep.  Then there is Houdini that gets fed.  If you don’t feed him by himself and watch, the purr things try to eat his food.  And then lastly, it’s the purr things.  We all like the purr things food – snorts. Try feeding us all at one time – snorts with piggy laughter.  Let’s just say that it didn’t go too well and mom still had not had any coffee.

And then there was the incident with the front room carpet mat near the entrance.  Someone was caught gnawing on it like it was a puppy treat – not mentioning any names little guy.  There’s now a hole in it and mommy might have blown a gasket because of that…. or maybe it was because I butted my head through the baby gate into the kitchen and ate some of the purr things food?… or maybe it was the purr thing Hemi chasing Houdini around the house knocking over the water dish?  I’m not really sure what exactly it was that threw mommy over the edge this morning but I think she sure was glad to go to the worky place this morning.  Sorry mom.

This Is Me Being Serious

Something happened last night.  We had friends over and of course you know I had to put on a performance – snorts.  Hey, it’s what I do.  The topic turned to my blog. We all took turns reading past articles from it and snorting – alcohol may have been involved with the humans – snorts.  Our friends made the comment that *I* could not be serious.  What?  Is that a dare?  Cause you know it sounded like a dare to this little oinker. So today, I will be serious.  This post will be about something that happened to me and mom this morning.  You just read and see.  Cough-cough-oink-snort- here comes my serious side.  Stop laughing.  I’m being serious.

This morning instead of me getting mom up for breakfast, she woke me up for a change.  It was early.  I couldn’t understand why.  She told me that she had to show me something that was special.  Something without electronics, without technology, with just me and her alone.  I just looked at her and yawned but hey I was game.  We walked to the kitchen and I sat on the floor yawning while mom fixed her a cup of coffee.  Then we did something strange.  We went out the back door of the Hotel Thompson.  The back door leads us to my backyard… my kingdom that I like to call it.

We sat down on the deck, mom cross-legged and I climbed up in her lap.  I kept looking at her waiting for an explanation.  It was dark out here overlooking my magical backyard and it was kind of chilly.  I couldn’t see anything but darkness.    Mom told me, “Wait for it Bacon.”  Wait for what?  I sat and continue to listen.  That’s when I noticed the sounds.

I could hear crickets.  I could hear frogs near the swamp.  I could hear a dog barking in the neighborhood.  I could hear Journalist Rocky the Squirrel chatting away with his family in the trees.  I even started hearing birds chirp.  WOW – I’ve never heard these noises so close before.  Then I started to hear a rooster a couple of doors down.  I looked at mom in complete awe and amazement.  She told me, “It’s not done yet Bacon. Keep waiting for it.”  Again this wait for it.  Wait for what?  What could be that interesting to get up at this ungodly hour?  Then there was a shift in the atmosphere.  Something changed but I couldn’t put my hoof on it.

I slowly got up out of mom’s lap and walked to the edge of the deck overlooking my backyard kingdom.  That’s when I saw it.  I looked at mom and she looked at me.  The blackness of the night started slowly fading away.  A white tinge was started to peak out from the night.  It was slow at first but as we watched minute by minute it started getting lighter outside.  Before I knew it, the night time had disappeared and the daylight had appeared out of nowhere.  WOW!  I could see my magical backyard in full light.  I looked at mom, did a little wiggle and pleaded, “Do it again mom!”  I went back and snuggled up in mom’s lap again.  We sat there for a long time, mom drinking her coffee petting me and I looking at the amazement of another great day.

Really Dad? You’re Not Invited

Let’s start by saying, me and mom are so NOT morning peeps.  We have a schedule that we keep in the mornings.  I wake her up for breakfast.  She gets up and we eat together.  Then we bundle on the couch together and listen to the morning news as we cuddle for a couple of more minutes of snooze together.  Do you get the picture?  Together as in me and mommy time alone.  NOTICE I didn’t say: me, mommy and daddy.  There was no mention of daddy.  It’s called me and mommy time for a reason.  Let me say again… me and mommy.  So you got that, right?

So this morning of ALL mornings on a Monday, guess who decides to get up with us and infiltrate into “our” time?  That’s right – daddy.  Not just daddy but non-stop-diarrhea-of-the-mouth talking daddy.  Go back to bed daddy!  Really.  But no… let’s keep chatting away.  Let’s keep singing away to Eddie Rabbit… to Elvis Presley… to Brooks and Dunn… to Pink.  Yep, you read right – Pink.  Rolls piggy eyes and shrugs shoulders.

You see, this is the problem.  Daddy is a morning person.  He wakes up happy, chirpy, full of life and wonderment.  Me and mom not so much.  Even this little oinker knows not to talk to mommy until after that first cup of coffee… sometimes maybe a second.  And hey – I’m not that jolly myself in the morning.  I have one thing on my mind – food.  And then some snuggles.  Sometimes not in that particular order.

Daddy was so bad this morning – a MONDAY of all days, that me and mom went to her room.  I got on the big bed and watched her get ready for work.  Guess who followed us?  Mouthy man!  I could see mommy and the steam was rising.  She looked at me and I could just picture her in my head telling daddy, “SILENCE!”  But she didn’t – it was a nice dream though.  Poor dad.  He was like a little puppy this morning following us around.  I thought at one time I heard mommy mumble, “Jabber Jaws” under her breath.  I can’t be sure though.  Of all days, I think mommy was ready to go to work.  She kissed me and put me back to bed for a morning nap.  Daddy even followed her to the car.  It’s going to be a long day for me here at the Hotel Thompson.  Please pray for me that daddy goes back down for a nap.  Snorts.  Do you have a morning person in your house?  What do you do when they get over obnoxious?

Java Truck

Mom had a dream last night.  Rolls piggy eyes – who would have thought it would have *anything* to do with food.  She is my mommy – snorts!

Mom told me and dad about her dream.  That’s when dad came up with a brilliant idea.  What if… now go with me on this… what if instead of ice cream trucks that came through your neighborhood there was Java trucks?

Mom did a little research and there are areas that have food trucks that have this option which would be cool.  But what about a neighborhood Java truck like around 7AM every day?  I know for sure mommy would be running out with robe, slippers and curlers in her hair every morning to get a cup.  What about you?  Wouldn’t it just be a hit and pure awesome?

And hey – donuts would just be a perk – hint hint.
