National Pet Memorial Day

Journalist Rocky the Squirrel here –

Keeping my paws on the nuts of the world!

 .

Today, September 14 is National Pet Memorial Day.  National Pet Memorial Day is always the second  Sunday in September.  I think it’s a fabulous day.  This day is an opportunity to remember the pets that have passed away but that are *never* forgotten.  These pets have touched our hearts, brightened our lives, comforted us and now are over the Rainbow Bridge.  They are still in our hearts and always will be.  Today, let us remember them and fall in love with them all over again.

Bacon’s mom was able to share some pictures with me of some of her pets that have crossed the Rainbow Bridge.  They will always hold a special place in her heart.  Please share your pictures and favorite stories today my friends.

You’ve heard Bacon speak of Tybee (a purr thing, brother to Hemi) and Honie Bear and Luckie Bear (the two pooches) that used to live here at the Hotel Thompson.  Here are their pictures – enjoy.

I Be Running – Flashback

See, when I was younger (snort – like it’s been that long ago), I used to run around the house chasing the purr thing Hemi.  I still have my moments but these were the days running loose and fancy free around the Hotel Thompson barking at everything.  Hemi and I actually play chase up and down the hall.  He has an edge over me cause he can jump on the furniture and swing off the ceiling fans.  My pot belly denies me this but I do have the speed.  Hope you enjoy the memories.  Be sure to let me know what you think.  Hogs and snout kisses – Bacon.

Bashful Made it Home!

20140126-143250.jpg

Bashful sweet Bashful finally made in home to the Hotel Thompson this weekend.  He came riding in on his skateboard that he got for Christmas at Misaki’s.  He was tired, had jetlag  and had a LOT of explaining to do on his travels back home.  I let him get some sleep but told him we needed answers.

Over breakfast this morning, he told us that he had an awesome time with Misaki and family.  He spoke of fun playing cards, riding his skateboard down some ramps, getting some beer and seeing some sights.  He also said it rained a lot more there than here in south Georgia – snorts.  He has memories that he will never forget and so much fun!

And he brought home some gifts.

A piggy coaster that reads, “The best way to behave is to misbehave”; some seaside rock candy in the star (really delicious!); some Percy Pig candies (I can’t get enough of these!); a wonderful keychain to remind me of my travels and a pink piggy tote bag.

Thank you Misaki so very much for the treats, the kindness of hosting my Bashful  and showing him a great time.  I think he even came home with the cutest little accent!  I am so jealous of it. He has definitely gotten the rock girls heads turning here at the Hotel Thompson with that accent – snorts.

.

AND, Bashful came home with a friend.  Misaki said he was “sweet but slightly dim”.  I think they got into great trouble traveling together on the way home.  It could account for his interview with Rolling Stone magazine – snorts.

May I present to you the  newest member of our rock clan – Benedict Cumberock.

National Animal Cracker Day!

Journalist Rocky the Squirrel here –

Keeping his paws on the nuts of the world.

BREAKING NEWS**BREAKING NEWS** BREAKING NEWS**BREAKING NEWS**BREAKING NEWS**BREAKING NEWS

April 18, 2013 is National Animal Cracker Day.  Isn’t this fantastic!!  Elephants, lions, tigers, bears and monkeys oh my.  These are small little sweet cookies shaped like zoo animals.  They were first brought to the United States during the 1800’s.  The demand for these wonderful little cookies skyrocketed and demand was over the roof!

Stauffer’s Biscuit Company was the first company to produce animal crackers in 1871 in York, Pennsylvania.  Other local bakeries came together under the National Biscuit Company or “Nabisco Brands”.  In 1902, the famous Barnum’s Animals circus theme box came out.  Bacon’s mom says that she remembers her parents bringing her these little boxes as a treat.

Did you know that since their start in 1903, there have been 37 different animals included in the Barnum’s Animal Crackers?  Today, more than 40 million packages of animal crackers are sold each year around the world.

I think Bacon does his share in the intake!  They are one of his biggest treats that his mom has to get him in the economy size!  I can’t tell you how many of these huge buckets that he has gone through in his day.  In fact, this one is what the Easter bunny brought him and it’s almost gone.  Time to reload.

So on this National Animal Cracker Day – enjoy a box OR TWO of these sweet delectable bits.  Just remember though, if you are going to eat in front of the pig, you have to share!

This is Journalist Rocky the Squirrel reporting out – have a nice day!

Down Memory Lane…

I’ve gotten some new fans lately that haven’t seen the cute little ole me from way back when 10 months ago.  Isn’t it funny how time flies by so quickly?  This is a picture of me when I was around 5 weeks old.  So small but yet so powerful in the cute department.  I was a little tyke.  I came to live with my adopted mom when I was only a mere 3 weeks old.  I was a runt having to be bottle fed and since mom had history in that department, they let me adopt her.  It was the best decision in our lives.  I didn’t find just a home.  I found an overwhelming pot full of love at the end of my rainbow.  Who says dreams can’t come true?
