What is this gooey yummy awesomeness you ask? Can you guess? Mom/dad found one of their favorites at a local restaurant they sometimes frequent. I believe dad said the menu called them Mac and Cheese Bites. Dad was really digging them cause they were really cheesy – like him. Snorts and rolls with piggy laughter. I just had to go there. Mom said they were okay and that she liked her Mac and cheese the old fashioned way. Have you ever had a creation like this?
Hello sweet friends – welcome to this week’s Travels in the South. Have you ever heard of macaroni cheese balls?
I had not either… well that is until I found some cool pictures on mom’s i-Phone the other night. She had some interesting pictures and a lot of explaining to do for sure.
Mom and dad went to a local steakhouse and these delights were appetizers. These wonderful balls are of course made with macaroni and then they add some fabulous cheeses – asiago, mozzarella and parmesan cheese.

They roll them in breadcrumbs and then deep fry them for a very short time. They are so cheesey as you can see from dad’s picture.
The restaurant serves the macaroni cheese bits with housemade ranch dressing. Of course dad liked them plain straight up without any additional sauces. He says they hold their own and are awesome all by themselves.
Barks! Hello friends. Today Bacon has asked me to fill in for him on mom’s Food Porn. You’ll see why for obvious reasons below. Don’t worry – Bacon himself was not harmed in the making of this delicious southern meal.
There is a new restaurant that opened up near the Hotel Thompson called Gina’s Bistro located at 192 Jonesboro Road, Jonesboro, Georgia. Mom has been wanted to try it because it was said this place had some awesome southern food. And you know my mom – pure south. Well, she and dad called up some of their friends to meet up for dinner one night.
They were greeted by the owner – Junebug – which is hilarious because that’s moms nickname too. Funny coincidence huh? They were sat with a wonderful waitress who went over the short but delicious looking menu. Mom and dad decided to get the same meal. Now, you are so not going to believe this picture but here it is:
Can you believe this picture?! That is TWO fried pork chops, macaroni and cheese, potato salad and a corn muffin. Mom immediately had to take a picture of their plate and then immediately ask for a doggy bag – barks!
Now you know why Bacon asked me to step in with this post today. You see mom/dad don’t eat pork at home – no way – not with having Bacon. So when mom’s southern desires come out, she has to get them satisfied at a restaurant far away from brother.
Can you believe this meal? They look like giant chops! And one of our friends got the same thing while the other one got a vegetable plate. They are not stingy with their food at all and the waitress went beyond in making our meal memorable.

But hey, they weren’t done. They decided to all split a slice of cake – who could eat an entire slice after that meal, right? Well, they choose – are you ready for this – banana pudding CAKE. It was regular yellow cake with layers of banana pudding. Dad about went to piggy heaven – he said it was delicious – something he had never experienced before. That says a lot because you know my dad – he knows his food – barks!

Dear Family,
Bacon here from Summer Camp. This weekend started off slow with Summer Camp. Everyone was getting to know one another and learn the ways around the camp here. It’s gotten a lot better now. I even met a new friend – Scott. He’s kind of cool and is from the North Georgia mountain areas. He goes outside all of the time and we are kind of hanging with each other.
They really believe in the activities at this place and are constantly encouraging us to participate. Yesterday we had arts and crafts so I went. Let me just say that it wasn’t my fault. Really it wasn’t. I got to class late and no one told me that the macaroni was for making jewelry and not for eating. What can I say? I was a little hungry. You might get a call from my counselor about that incident.
And speaking of counselors. Mom are you for real about this place? Did you check into this at all? They call the boys here Blueberries and the girls Strawberries. Rolls piggy eyes. That is so crazy and just makes me hungry. But I’m getting sidetracked. Our counselors have nicknames. I bet you just can’t guess what my counselor’s nickname is. Go ahead. I’ll wait for you to guess. Then again, no I won’t since I only have ONE hour of computer time tonight. His nickname is Wolf. Really mom? Gotta run – my time is running close and I have to get back to my cabin before it gets too dark.
