Journalist Rocky the Squirrel here – Keeping my paws on the nuts of the world!
Of all of the important holidays I can tell you about, today seems to be the most important in my book. It is International Day of Friendship. The world is filled with too much hate, too many wars, too much prejudice and way too many disagreements. Today, we should put all of that aside and reach out to each other and say, “Hello friend happy friendship day!”
This is just not a backyard problem or a school playground problem. This is a worldwide problem. A problem that needs to come to an end. Everyone has differences – we wouldn’t be individuals if we didn’t. But when you look down to it, we all want to be happy and what better way than to get along.
Today let’s make friends with different people, different cultures and different countries. Extend your hand – or an olive branch – and say hello friend. Say hello to your neighbor, to the stranger at the market and say hello to a person that you see everyday but you don’t even know their name. Today is the day to make a friend near and far.
To all of our friends, we at the Hotel Thompson would like to say thank you for being our friend – happy friendship day. And to those that don’t know us yet, Happy Friendship Day. May we get to know you better today and in the future!
Who will YOU say hello friend to today?

Let’s talk about something that is really scary – the fear of heat. Do you think you can withstand this fear? Let’s see when i tell you what I’ve found.
First up – the Jalapeño. I’m sure you have heard of this lovely creature. On the heat scale, it’s three out of four peppers being hot. It’s origin is Mexico and these days they are grown everywhere. You can find them in cheese dips, wrapped with bacon and stuffed with cream cheese, in salsa, in chili – it’s unlimited. Most peeps can withstand the heat on this one… most.
Then we move up to the fierce red Habanero. The Habanero is a variety of chili pepper. On the heat scale, it’s five out of five peppers being exceptionally hot. A ripe Habanero is bright red where a unripened Habanero is green. So you see, they color as they mature into their full potential. They can also come in different colors – look for the beautiful orange. The Habanero comes from the Amazonas region and from there spread throughout Mexico.
Whereas you might enter a contest to be dared to eat a Jalapeño and survive the contest, you might want to think twice about a contest eating a Habanero. Mom has said once that she believes the Habanero was made by the devil himself because he thought all other peppers were ‘tame’.
I’m sure you h
ave heard about these two famous peppers. But let’s go deeper my friends. Are you ready for the fear? How about wrapping your lips around a Ghost Pepper? Maybe your lips shouldn’t touch this pepper. The Ghost Pepper originates in India. On the heat scale, the Ghost Pepper is also five peppers out of five peppers being exceptionally hot. In 2007, the Guinness World Records certified that the Ghost Pepper was the world’s hottest chili pepper – 400 times hotter than Tabasco sauce. Can you wrap your lips around that?

And you probably thought I could stop right there with the fear of heat in peppers. But I can’t. I found one more for you to fear. Are you shaking yet? Let me introduce you to the hottest pepper these days – The Carolina Reaper Pepper. Okay it’s called the Reaper – does that not tell you anything? You are certain for death eating this bad boy – fear it! The Reaper is officially the world’s hottest pepper by the Guinness World Records. It is a cross between a Pakastani Naga pepper and a Red Habanero. Can you just feel the heat over your lips, down your throat to the deep pits of your stomach?
Is today’s post scary enough for you my friends or do I need to start making some brownies for you… of course with these peppers? Happy eats my friends.

Mom told me about this show that she used to watch growing up as a child. It was called Romper Room. Do you remember it? She said that it was a series that ran from 1953 until 1994. Of course, snort – mom came in there sometimes in the late 1970’s.
She told me she used to watch it ALL of the time. We even found an old back issue of one of them and she showed it to me. Even dad said he watched it growing up. Of course, it was right up there with shows like Captain Kangaroo and Mr. Rogers.
There were lots of things that mom and dad both said they learned. One thing was when they served milk and cookies to the children. You remember the little prayer given before eating, “God is great, God is good. Let us thank him for our food. Amen.” I think I’ve even heard daddy still mutter that before dinner sometimes – snort.
And do you remember the bumblebees, Mr. Do-Bee and Mr. Don’t-Bee? Do-Bee good little children and Don’t Be Mean. Those were so hilarious when we watched the show the other day – LOL

The ending was my favorite – the magic mirror. “Romper, bomper, stomper boo. Tell me, tell me, tell me, do. Magic Mirror, tell me today, have all my friends had fun at play?” The teacher would then name off names, “I see Jimmy and Lucy and Tiffany and Judy…” I *so* hoped she would say Bacon in the episode we watched, but she didn’t. Mom said she never said her name either. Pooey.
So, I kind of wanted to do a throw back to the old Romper Room Magic Mirror. I wanted to look in my Magic Mirror and ‘see‘ all of the people that have seen my blog.
I see Hungary, I see Italy, I see Bosnia and Herzegovina. I see Greece, I see Lebanon, I see Australia and I see Oman (I had to look that one up on the map!).

I see Switzerland, I see Poland, I see Russian Federation and I see Ireland. I see Serbia, I see New Zealand, I see Malta and I see France.
I see Thailand, I see Taiwan, I see Guatemala and I see Sweden. I see Republic of Korea, I see Norway, I see Hong Kong and I see Austria.
