Travels in the South

Welcome my friends to another edition of Travels in the South.

Knowing that last week was difficult for the mommy in getting done a lot of things at work, mom/dad took time out for a little tender loving care in the form of sweet pleasures. They went to a local restaurant just for a little just desserts.  May we introduce you to a Molten Salted Caramel Cake.  Oh my friends, dad says that mom made sounds he hasn’t heard in a long time.  I’m not sure what he meant by that – snorts with piggy laughter.

This creation is a salted caramel cake filled with melted yummy caramel.  So when you cut into the cake, that wonderful caramel spreads everywhere – can you say yummy?  Then the cake is topped with vanilla ice cream, more caramel sauce and salted caramel pieces.  Now personally I don’t know how good this was but mommy came home happy and in a great mood.  She also said that if you crave a salt/sweet combination, this is for you.  Dad says it kind of taste like pancakes and syrup.  Now, that I can relate to – snorts with piggy laughter.

So there you go my friends.  Another awesome contribution to Travels in the South.  Have you eaten something amazing lately?

Daddy is a Smart Man

Yep, I said that out loud and you did not hear things.  This little oinker admits that there are times that dad steps up to the plate and thinks ahead.  Today was a special day for mom in theory – you know because it was Professional Administrative Day. Well, as you can imagine mom has four bosses and 30 co-workers that she does work for and not one said anything today on the official day.  No card.  No flowers.  No lunch.  No emails.  No thank you.  No acknowledgement.  Zip.  Nada.  This broke mine and dad’s heart especially knowing how much mom gives and does.  Is it really too much to ask for to be acknowledged and thanked at least ONE day out of the year?  Shakes my piggy head.

But me and dad came up with a plan.  When mom got home, we had a bubble bath ready for her and she had her choice of these two items – one with the bath and one after the bath.  I know she’s on that DIEt thing but come on – she deserves it.

AND if you my friends have humans that got overlooked today too – I’m so sorry.  Please give your human a hog and snout kiss from me and tell them we think they are wonderful! ❤

Mom/Dad’s Food Porn

Sometimes with all of the stress and worries that come with being an adult, you have to take a step back and revert back to childhood.  This has been a tough month for a lot of people – not just here at the Hotel Thompson – but all over blogville.

Last night, mom got home and just gave dad one of “those” sighs.  You know the one I’m talking about.  The one where you are done.  Empty.  Totally wiped out.  Feeling uncherished, unwanted, unloved and miserable.  Nothing particular sparked it but everything attributed to it.  You know that feeling?  Mom calls those feelings feeling magenta.  Shrugs piggy shoulders.  I’m not sure why magenta but she picked magenta.

Well daddy told her last night that was it – it was time to go back to being a kid without adult worries.  Mom/dad loaded up in the car and went down the street to the local Dairy Queen.  Once there, they ordered two of these delectable peanut butter parfaits, laughed and joked while eating their treats.  And guess what?  It did the job.  Both mom/dad came back home more lighter with worries.

So, have you had your kid treat lately?  I think tonight they are meeting the local ice cream truck at the curb.  Maybe I can get in on some of that action – snorts with piggy laughter.

Dear Bacon

Dear Bacon – Darn that pesky cat.  She dared me to stick my head under the privacy fence to look at Bob.  Well you know I’m not one not to take a challenge so I did it.  Well guess what?  My head is stuck.  Bob tried everything he could to get me un-stuck but nothing.  I know I heard that pesky purr thing clicking pictures to post on line.  This does mean war.  Any suggestions?  Signed Stuck Between a Rock and Hard Place

Dear Stuck Between a Rock and Hard Place – Here’s what I would do… not that I’ve done anything like this before – looks innocent.  When the purr things goes to sleep, find the camera and change your face picture of being stuck to the purr things face.  Then put that picture all over the place.  Fair is fair, right?  Snorts.

Dear Bacon – OMC – Make the winter go away please.  It is so cold in my part of the world – this is how you will find me every night – trying to touch the heat waves.  Is it still cold there in your part of the world?  Signed Stretch

Dear Stretch – Shaking my piggy head.  I am so with you my friend.  Some days are great – perfect temperature and skies.  While other days, the rain is falling and it is cold.  Hopefully soon Mother Nature will make up her mind and pick one season to stick to… I hope.

Dear Bacon – What’s up?!  I just know you are eating or drinking something wonderful on the other side of this fence.  Just put it right there okay… right there on my tongue.  Many thanks!  Signed Beggar

Dear Beggar – If only I had something my friend, I would surely share with you.  Heck, if you lived closer, I would go get you an poochie ice cream.  Mom always makes sure that Houdini has some in the freezer.  They don’t taste that bad at all – I know cause I’ve had one.  Hope you get something soon.  Hang in there… well don’t hang.  Maybe take your tongue out of the hole.

Dear Bacon – I tell my human this all of the time.  “Oh no don’t stop.  I love hearing all about your break ups and fights with your boyfriend.  You have my solid attention – do go on.  I’m sitting here just totally enthralled.  I would give you a hug but look – I’m caged.”  Signed Attention

Dear Attention – Snorts with piggy laughter.  Does this work?  Does your human take you out for a little hug?  I mean heck they should because you do look like you are giving them your full attention.  I’m really touched – snorts.

.

Dear Bacon – My human thought he was dreaming last night but it really was me in person scaring him.  Evil Purrs.  I dressed up like a doctor and put a light over his face.  Surely he thought he was going into surgery.  It was really hilarious.  For a human, he can’t jump pretty high.  Have you ever fooled your humans like this?  Signed Mischief

Dear Mischief – I like the way you think my friend.  Every chance I get it, you know I pick on my human father.  Our relationship is deep and has many levels.  Both of us think that we are the alpha here at the Hotel Thompson.  But we all know who that really is, right?  Keep up the great work my friend.  I’m highly impressed with your young abilities.

.

REMEMBER MY FRIENDS – Dear Bacon can’t happen without YOU.  Please keep sending me your letters and pictures to my email.

Mom’s Food Adventure

I have to tell you my friends that I just ❤ it when mom/dad go out and bring back glorious pictures of the eating adventures.  What do I like even more than that?  When they bring me a piggy back which they DID NOT in this case – snorts.

Mom/dad went out recently and go dessert which they normally don’t order.  I asked mom why they did this time.  She said it was because their favorite Mexican restaurant has the best fried ice cream.  Yep, I said FRIED ICE CREAM.  Have you ever seen such a delectable creation in this picture?

Now, of course I had to ask mommy.  How does one make fried ice cream?  She says that this restaurant rolls frozen ice cream into cornflakes and then quick fries the creation for just a couple of minutes to brown the cornflakes.  Then it is garnished into this beautiful creation.  Have you ever tried fried ice cream?

Simpler Times

While Bacon is a camp this week, I want to focus on a few things that as adults we have forgotten about when we were children. LOL – this only makes sense since my little guy is away at Camp.  He grunted like he didn’t want to go but I think he secretly loved getting away and traveling like his pet rock.

It seems like when we were younger, that was the more simpler times in our lives.  As children we didn’t have bills or a lot of toys but it seemed like we had the world at our feet.  We went outside and played.  I mean ran around and played ball, climbed trees and searched for bugs and watched the moonlight. We played hopscotch and hide and go seek.  We socialized with other kids, screamed outside and had a blast.  As long as we were in ears reach of our parents when they called, we were rich with our nature.  Do you remember staying out late and catching lightening bugs? Or do you remember chasing frogs?

And oh should we discuss riding in the family car with our parents on long trips.  We didn’t use seat belts and look – we all survived which was amazing.  I remember going on vacation and we would leave at night and drive to our destination.  Us kids would be sacked out in the back of the car.  One of us would lay across the floorboards, one of us would get the seat to stretch out and one of us would sleep in the back window  The horror of not wearing seat belts!  Now *those* were the days.  And what about going to the lake.  You would throw a bunch of blankets in the back of the pick up truck so that you had a place to lay down after swimming all day so you could watch the stars in the sky.

We played so hard as children that when we went to bed we would have ‘growing pains’ in our legs from running all day.  Do you remember those?  But hey it was all worth it because the next day we would be out doing it all again.

And we watched the *good* cartoons like Scooby Doo, the Jetson’s, Tom and Jerry and the Flintstones.  Cartoons that actually made sense and are still fun to watch this day. And after dinner, we watched television with the parents until bed time.  Awesome shows like Happy Days, Fantasy Island, Mork and Mindy, Chips, Wonder Woman, the Facts of Life and Alice.  Who could forget Alice?  “Kiss my grits!”

What do you remember from childhood.  What did you do that you don’t see children doing these days?

Houdini’s Party

It’s hard to believe but Little Man Houdini is officially ONE YEAR OLD today!!  Can you believe that?  Mom/dad brought him here to the Hotel Thompson to his forever home 9 months ago – he was a mere three months and only weighed 3 pounds.  This past weekend, mom/dad threw him a surprise birthday party with his doggy friends up at Nana’s.  We will be having a party for him here at the Hotel Thompson with all of us tonight.

When he first got to Nana’s, mom changed him into his outfit to the left – isn’t it adorable?  Oh my goodness – squeals.  You see on Saturday, mom/dad went birthday shopping for the little guy at our local pet store.  Houdini usually goes but couldn’t go this time so I went.  Mom/dad didn’t want him to see all of his gifts for his birthday.  And hey, I was in the car when they were doing their test on Albert vs Tank.  I love the pet store – so many friendly peeps.  Now I know why Houdini likes to go!  So mom got Houdini all dressed up and then dressed up Tinkerbell and Dingo for the birthday bash.

Aren’t these two just the cutest?  Dingo is on the left.  He tolerated his hat only because he kept saying, “There will be ice cream, right?”  Snorts – smart dog isn’t he?

Tinkerbell is on the right.  She really liked her hat.  She just pranced around the house wearing it… and looking for ice cream too.  But you gotta admit, for 14 years old Tinkerbell looks like 4, doesn’t she?  So cute and adorable.

And you are probably asking about the ice cream.  Did you know that there is an ice cream made specifically for dogs called Frosty Paws?  There is and you can buy it at your local grocery store.  It doesn’t have any added sugar and this particular box had peanut butter flavor.

And it’s good. How do I know?  Snorts – good question.  You see Nana told me.  When she served the ice cream, it was really hard.  Nana put it in the microwave for a few minutes to soften it.  Without thinking about it, she put her finger in it and tasted it to see if it was too warm.  Doh!  That’s when she realized she was eating doggy ice cream – snorts with piggy laughter. That’s our Nana.  But she said it was delicious. How delicious?  Let me show you some pics of the great ice cream eating fest.

This is Houdini blowing out his candle to the right.  He was making a wish first – for lots and LOTS of toys and food.

Then the picture to the left is Houdini being spoon fed by Nana.  Rolls piggy eyes.  Can you imagine that?  The little guy is getting SPOON FED for his birthday.

Of course, Nana put some on a plate too and he did eat some off of a plate with Dingo and Tinkerbell.

IMG_3389

And don’t worry – Nana fixed Houdini a cake of sorts too.  This is it in the picture to the right – cute huh?  It had lots of food – Houdini got the pot of gold and got an entire box of Ceasar wet food.  He eats a little of that every morning with his dry food.  Talk about rotten huh?  Well you haven’t seen anything.  Look at all of the toys he got in his toy chest of a box.

He got a rope for tug a war from me.  See I was thinking about the little guy 🙂  The cats gave him the cow looking thing in the middle.  You stick an empty water bottle up it for the crunchy crinkly sound that Houdini loves.  And Tinkerbell and Dingo got him the ball inside of a ball on the far left.  So cool!

As you can see, Houdini had a great party at Nana’s.  Tonight we are having a quite dinner and fun time with him here at the Hotel Thompson.  But all of us anipals here have to tell the little guy –

HAPPY BIRTHDAY!!

And a special thank you to my brother Easy for sending the little guy his first birthday card.  Thanks brother – he loved it!

Shopping Fun with Mom and Dad

You have to admit my friends that there is *never* a dull moment with my humans.  This is another grocery store adventure with those two.  I think I need to start writing a book on them!

So there they were in the store shopping.  One of mom’s favorite things in the entire world is a little ice cream in the evenings – preferably Haagen-Dazs. She usually buys the little individual tubs and splits it into two nights.  That way she doesn’t feel like she is over doing it.  Don’t you just love the way humans think?

So there they were – mom and dad on the ice cream aisle.  Dad starts laughing and says, “Hey honey, I’ll get your ice cream”.  Nice gesture but mom just knows something is up with that ever so kindness.  Then he hands her the tub on the left and says, “Will this hold you a couple of nights?”  Really daddy?  I have to snort on that because it is funny.  Mommy took a picture in comparison of how big the tub daddy found was.  Heck, I think personally I would give it a try.  Would you?

Shopping Around the World

My friend Fozzie and I have scheduled a group posting today of Shopping Around the World.   We thought it would be interesting to see the differences between different countries all over. Here are our prices for the following from our area – Georgia USA:

.

  • Popcorn – We have a tendency to go old school here at the Hotel Thompson.  Mom buys the kernels in a bag to pop old fashion wise on the stove.  Trust me – it’s well worth the extra steps.  A 16 ounce bag of popcorn she can get on sale for $1.50 – it makes about 10-12 batches of corn for this oinker.  And trust me – I ❤ my popcorn.
  • Beer/Wine – Mommy is very picky on her wine.  She only buys Francis Ford Coppola wines.  Don’t ask me why cause I don’t know cause she won’t give me a taste of the grape – snorts.  Daddy says it costs about $20.00 or more for a bottle.  Thank goodness mommy doesn’t drink that much – I mean hey that cuts into my popcorn right?  PLOL
  • Chocolates – Mom’s favorite chocolates are Dove.  You know the ones that you unwrap and they have a secret little message on the wrapper.  She buys a 16 ounces bag usually for around $4.00.
  • Ice Cream –  Mom has been hooked on Breyers  Gelato these days.  Her favorite – Vanilla caramel.  Sometimes and not very often she can get a tub (28.5 ounces) for $4.00.  I have to admit mommy gave me a taste the last time she had some of this.  It was delicious.  I think I squealed it was so good!
  • Random Item of your choice – Something that comes out only during this time that my mommy absolutely loves is the white chocolate covered Oreo’s.  Delish… well so says mom and dad.  I have still yet to get one – hint hint mommy dearest.

If you have some items that you want to get on the list, email me my friends.

Hope you had fun!!
