National Pig Day

TODAY IS *MY* DAY!

Normally, I would let me friend Journalist Rocky the Squirrel tell you about important and interesting holidays.  But today, well today is *my* day.

I bet you didn’t know that I have an entire holiday to myself? Well – I do!! Today is National Pig Day. I wait all year for my holiday. This is my third one and the party is on!

But you’re probably asking yourself what is national pig day?

“National Pig Day

National Pig Day is an event held annually on March 1 in the United States to celebrate the pig. The holiday celebration was started in 1972 by sisters Ellen Stanley, a teacher in Lubbock, Texas, and Mary Lynne Rave of Beaufort, North Carolina.

According to Rave, the purpose of National Pig Day is “to accord the pig its rightful, though generally unrecognized, place as one of man’s most intellectual and domesticated animals.”

Since today is my day, I get to do what I want… within limitations. I get my favorite foods. I get the extra loving and snuggles. I get a piggy massage. I get my hooves done. Whatever I want – it’s all about pleasing this piggy. To all my fellow pig friends – cash in on this our holiday – enjoy it to the fullest!!

Yawn, I think I’ll start like I am in this picture.  On the couch and snuggled with mommy!

One Lovely Blog Award

I’m so behind these days!  My friends at Diary of a Quirky Girl gave me this award on 08/30/2014.  Trust me, I am *always* excited to get awards of any kind.  And I can’t thank you my friends enough!  I’m sorry that it has taken me a bit to get to this.  08/30/2014 was also the day that we adopted Houdini so we’ve been a little tied up on puppy duty lately – snorts.

But without further delay, let’s talk about this award – One Lovely Blog Award.  As part of accepting this award, I must tell you seven things about myself, some you might possibly not know.  Here are my seven:

  1. I like to joke around.  I really do.  Life is way too serious.  Let’s stop, laugh or snort for a few minutes every day.  And hey, if I make you laugh or snort so much you make water, so be it.  My job is done – snorts.
  2. I ❤ television.  A couple of years ago for Christmas, mom and dad got me my very own flat screen for my bedroom.  I ❤ it!  Some of my favorite shows to watch (in no particular order) are:  Felix the Cat, Mighty Mouse, Scooby Doo, Green Acres, Animal Planet and the Sci-Fi channel.  I love me some Joe Kendall of Homicide Hunter – snorts.
  3. I’m mom’s sous chef in the kitchen in the evenings.  When she is cooking the family dinner, I stand by her side tasting samples.  You know just to make sure they are acceptable for dinner.
  4. I *hate* the feel of grass on my hooves.  That’s right.  I said it.  I hate the feel of grass on my hooves.  I can’t stand it.  It’s a texture thing.  It’s gross.  Enough said.
  5. I sleep with mom and dad from time to time.  On the Select Comfort bed, I’m a 65.
  6. I snore.  Okay maybe not as loud as daddy but I snore.  What?  It doesn’t bother me – snorts.
  7. Since the adoption of Houdini here at the Hotel Thompson, I have been known to have a kinder side.  At times when no one is looking, I will let Houdini treat me like his personal jungle gym and climb all over me.  He’s a little guy.  Sometimes I will even let him bite me and act as if he is beating me up.  So that way he thinks he’s bigger than what he is.  I know.  I’m a softy.

Now to continue to share the love forward, I will nominate 15 pals:

Misaki

What Does a Pig Yawning Look Like?

I *know* that this is the question you ask yourself on a daily basis – snorts.  Today I’m here to make that question come true.  I’m going to show you what it looks like when a pig – namely moi – yawns.  Yes I yawn.  I get tired too.  Hey, it’s hard work maintaining this pot belly and this establishment here at the Hotel Thompson.  Okay, without further ado, here you go.  A picture of me yawning.

Notice the technique.  Yes there is a technique my friends.  In this picture, I’m on the sofa with mommy watching television.  I have to stretch my front hooves.  Then my nose goes up, my tongue comes out a little and I yawn.  See, I also have a tongue.  Some people have questioned that – snorts.  And in this picture, you might see a little tooth.  Trust me.  There are more than one.  Please excuse the extra jowls – it’s too hot these days to exercise… except for my jaws when I’m eating – double snorts.

So there you go.  Now you’ve seen everything… a pig yawning 🙂  You’re welcome.  Have a fabulous day my friends! ❤

Five Fact Friday –

Happy Friday my friends – we made it another week!!  YAY.  Let’s party!  Let’s eat!  Let’s play!  Let’s cuddle!  I hope you have a fantastic weekend doing what you want to do.  Whatever it is, be the best you can be at it sweet friends!  And here are five more facts about me that maybe you didn’t know 🙂

  1. One time, we had our neighbor over from next door.  When we have company, it means they are there to see me.  What?  When you have company, aren’t they there to see you?  Snorts – I thought so.  Also this means that I have to show off.  So I was running around the front room and thought I would sneak behind the sofa.  Mommy doesn’t like it when I go behind the sofa so she had placed a pillow at the entrance to block me off.  I wasn’t going to let a little pillow stop me from performing so I tried to jump the pillow to get behind the couch.  It didn’t work out so well.  This darn pot belly got me stuck.  All you can see was my fanny in the air and my feet peddling but not touching anything but air.  Mommy had to safe me.  It was so embarrassing.  Totally.
  2. The first time the pizza guy delivered to the Hotel Thompson, he almost peed on himself.  I answered the door with mom and snorted.  Let’s just say he wasn’t expecting a piggy to answer the door.  Now they know our address as the “pig house” and bring me extra food when mom orders.  It’s kind of fun.  Some of the carriers have had their pictures taken with me.  Hey, it’s a win-win situation.  They get a picture taken with their favorite piggy and I get leftovers 🙂  Who could ask for anything more?  But I will tell you.  Daddy is jealous – snorts.
  3. The mailman knows me now.  He delivered mail addressed to Bacon Thompson for a long time and finally got the nerve to ask was that really my mom’s sons name.  She said yes and asked if he wanted to meet me when he delivered a package to the door.  We are now on a first name basis.  How many mailmen can say they deliver mail to a real pig every day?
  4. I love football season.  Heck, some could say I love football.  First off, it’s in the fall and the weather is cooler.  Second off, this is dad’s favorite time of the year.  Dad watching football means snacks in front of the television.  Snacks in front of the television means daddy shares with me.  Cause mom has a steadfast rule here at the Hotel Thompson.  “Don’t eat in front of the pig unless you plan on sharing with the pig.”  With that in mind, are you ready for some football?
  5. The one thing that mom absolutely can’t stand that I do?  Did you know that there is one thing?  It’s really bad too.  When I get overly excited – like when she is popping popcorn on the stove for us – I start walking around her feet.  That’s not bad because the purr things do that too.  The bad part is that sometimes I step on her toes.  With my hooves.  That is very painful.  It’s like stepping barefoot on a thousand Lego’s all concentrated on your toes.  Ouch.  Sorry mom – my bad.  I just get excited.

There you go.  I hope you learned something new about me today.  Have an awesome Friday and weekend my friends.  Don’t do anything I wouldn’t do – snorts!

Paw Day

Our friends at My Three Moggies and our pal Sammy  are hosting Paw Day today.  In order to join, you display their badge and show then show any picture with your paws.   I have a slight problem with this.  I mean think about it.  I don’t have paws – snorts – I have hooves.  This may be more difficult than I imagined but I will give it my best shot.

To the right is their badge in honor of this Paw Day.  Isn’t it awesome?  I just love it and will cherish it under my badges.

Now… let’s see what I can find for paws.

.

Let’s start with easy things first.  This is my mom/dad’s paws.  Kind of cute huh?  Hey, I think that’s where I get my good looks from – those two.  Can you see the resemblance to me?

Next up is Hemi.  You know Hemi – one of the purr things here at the Hotel Thompson.  The one with the GINORMOUS paw – snorts.  Well, you be the judge of that.  Here he is doing what he does best – sleeping on top of daddy.

And here is the princess – Mouse Girl here at the Hotel Thompson

Okay and here is mine.  A little fuzzy but you get the picture of my paws… AKA hooves.  I move fast when I want to.  Snorts.

Bacon’s Towel

My friend Cocco had a contest for a free personalized bath towel in March and I won.  I can’t begin to tell you how excited I was – and still am!  I’ve been putting off on a post because mommy was hoping that I would actually use the towel – snorts.  She’s so funny.  The bath towel came to the Hotel Thompson, mommy unwrapped it and it was cool.  She tried slowly to introduce me to the towel.  You say why?  Well, shuffles hooves, new things they kind of scare me – just a little.

Bath time rolled around this weekend.  I blew bubbles… stomped my hooves… rolled around in the water… dived for carrots.  You know – all in all had a great time.  Time came for me to get out and mommy got my new towel.  Well that’s when mommy learned something new.  I can shake worse than a doggy when getting out of the tub.  Mommy should have just gotten in the tub with me because she got wetter than I did – snorts.  What can I say?  It’s what I do.

She grabbed my towel but to tell you the truth, it didn’t smell like mommy.  It’s a cool towel too.  I squealed like bloody murder so mommy couldn’t towel me off, hold a squealer and take a picture too.  Maybe next month… maybe.

But here is the adorable towel.  It’s black with green lettering.  The towel came from Trixie Wilkie with Adorable Banner Company.  It is a really cool towel and mommy highly recommends it.  From the picture, you can tell there are little pockets where you can hold on to a squealing pig… or dog … or cat… so they can’t get away.

Never fear – mom says she’s going to try again next month in trying to get a picture taken with me and the towel.

Thanks to Cocco and Trixie for the brilliant towel – love you guys!!

Snow Conspiracy?

20140202-193801.jpg

Just when you’ve thought you’ve heard everything, snow conspiracy?  Yep I said snow conspiracy.  Shakes piggy head.  I was watching a local television news show here in Atlanta on WSB TV this weekend.  They were reporting that this nighmare of a snow ‘storm’ we had last week was a hoax.  Do you hear me?  A hoax.

Let me present exhibit A to the right here.  This is a picture of part of my magical backyard.  Notice the “conspiracy” snow in the picture?  Looked real to me.  Heck, it felt real to my hooves when I was outside running around in it.  Of course, I don’t have anything to compare it to because it was my first snow but it felt and looked real to me.  And OMP (oh my pig) – I tasted this conspiracy snow.  What will happen to me?  Who do I need to call?  Am I going to blow up or become a mutant?  What will this piggy do?!

So are you wondering what this conspiracy theory is about?  WSB TV reported the following:

“The conspiracy reasoning goes like this: the snow is unusual in Georgia and other southeast areas and doesn’t melt when burned. Therefore, it must be fake snow.”

WOW.  Considering that reasoning, even this oinker has to scream conspiracy – rolls piggy eyes.  Yes it’s true.  Atlanta got what 2.5 inches of snow and literally shut down with the highways being parking lots.  There’s reasoning behind that – really there is.  I’ve thought long and hard about the situation.  I mean heck I had a lot of time on my hooves with being snowed in this past week – snorts.  Let’s discuss.

1 – Atlanta is in the south.  We just *don’t* get snow that often.  I think the last time mom and dad remembers snow it was in 2008.  That’s a long time ago considering how often other places get snow.

2 – Most places have more than one snow truck.  Our snow truck works.  I’m sure it’s a great snow truck.  But you see Bubba only drives it what every 5-6 years and this year he lost the keys.  By the time he found them, highways were now parking lots.

3 – That 2.5 inches that fell here was a LOT to us.  Consider what my friend Nylablue in Canada who has had 8 FEET recently.  Our 2.5 inches is like having 8 FEET.  We just don’t deal with it very well in any way.  Heck in reality, seeing one itty bitty snowflake here shuts us down completely.  And I do mean completely.  You even mention snowflake on the local news and it’s a mad house.  The grocery stores are bombarded like someone saying free doughnuts at Krispy Kreme.  Shivers – that should be a conspiracy theory.

4 – Did anyone think that perhaps it wasn’t a conspiracy theory by the government?  Maybe it was an alien takeover?  Perhaps Bigfoot sneezed?  Maybe the clouds cried?  And here’s a big could have been.  Perhaps all of the people that use dandruff shampoo washed all of their dandruff down the drain and the drain finally exploded?  Yeah, that could happen.

20140202-193808.jpg

As you can tell, I’ve had a lot of time to think this over.  And let me finally present to you exhibit B to the left.  You knew there was going to be something Mickey Mouse in this post – snorts.  This is one of mom’s statues on the back deck of my magical backyard.

Perhaps the conspiracy snow was well snow… real snow fallen from the sky in a place in the south that just doesn’t get much snow.

WOW – That almost makes so much sense that it doesn’t sound real.  hhhmm – conspiracy snow anyone?

Dear Miss Piggy

Dear Miss Piggy,

I am the right oinker for you.  I bet you didn’t know that Kermit was sighted out on the town having a big night without you.  He gave Miley Cyrus a run for her money – that’s for sure!  Any time you are willing to date and meet a real piggy that will worship your hooves, I’ll be waiting here for you my love.  Love, Bacon

P.S. I’m attaching the evidence picture of Kermit’s night out for your review.  What is he going to try next? Twerkin?  PLOL (Piggy laughing out loud).

P.S.S.  If he tries twerkin, I can beat him at that too.  I’ve been practicing.

Snorticles – Anyone for Bath Time?

As a follow up to my morning post, I wanted to share with you a favorite bath time video that mom took of me once upon a time.  You see, I like bath time for the most part.  I like stomping my hooves and blowing bubbles in the water.  It’s just fun pure and simple.  And hey, I gotta make sure that mom gets a bath too so if she’s not soaked, my bath time is not done 🙂  And as you can tell from watching the video, when I’m done – I’m done.  I hope you enjoy the video my friends.
