Festival of Sleep Day

“Keeping my paws on the nuts of the world!”

I’m back!  Hi my friends – it’s Journalist Rocky the Squirrel here.  I’ve been out on holiday for a while.  You know – busy, busy, busy collecting the nuts for the winter for my family.  Did you miss me?  I hope so.  I’ve got some great articles coming up for 2015 concerning all of the unique holidays that you probably didn’t know existed.

Today, January 3rd, is a special day.  It is the Festival of Sleep Day.  I think today is a day that we can all wrap ourselves around and snuggle down for some rest.  The holidays are far behind us now.  All of the rush is done with and it is time to get plenty of rest.  Take you a power nap, hibernate for a few hours, sleep in before work, doze while reading a book – just get plenty of rest!

Enjoy the day my friends.  I’ll be back soon!

Do You Hear that Noise?

Do you hear that noise?  I don’t either.  Smiles broadly, sighs happily and stretches hooves without fear.  We all slept in here this morning at the Hotel Thompson.  It was quiet.  It had such a free feeling – no one was tiptoeing around.  No one was hiding.  No one was scared to turn the corner into another room.  Such a grand feeling.

Good bye Don Juan.

May you have safe travels for another year far, FAR away from the Hotel Thompson.  May frost bite nip at your toes.  May your hat get stuck in a paper shredder.  May you get safely tucked away deep in a box in a time capsule and buried somewhere by a dog.

I don’t wish you ill will – really I don’t.  I just wish you everything that you have so generously bestowed upon us here this year at the Hotel Thompson.  In fact, I wish you a double dose.

Until next year my evil little nemesis – take care.  I know I will be sleeping better!

Oh No You Don’t Daddy!

20140702-105046-39046719.jpgSo early last week, mom and dad went to bed, turned on their television to watch the news and got all comfortable.  Hemi, as you can see in this picture, likes to sit front and center and swat at the news people.  See, it’s not just me that purr thing swats – snorts.  Mom sets the timer on the television and those humans of mine usually drift off to sleep land express before the television turns off.  But the other night, the television went off early.  Mom assumed that since Hemi was near the remote control, he probably hit the button and turned it off.  No problems.

So mom gets up the next morning to watch the news while getting ready for the worky place and guess what?  The flat screen won’t come on.  What?  That’s not good.  So my mom, who is NOT electronically inclined might I add, checks everything – all plugs, resets the television and hits the button again.  Nothing.  Now she fusses a bit and I’m sitting on the bed watching her.  Daddy wakes up from his slumber like a bear waking up from hibernation and asks whats going on and why am I on his bed.  I gave him a stink eye look just like mommy did – snorts.

Mom explains to him what happened.  Then daddy did something so stupid that I started snorting almost rolling off the bed.  He asks mommy, “Did you check the plug in?”  Pardon me dad, let me help you put that size 10 foot right into your mouth because mom is going to get you so good.  And trust me, putting your foot into your own mouth is NOT going to be as easy as you were a child.  Nope.  Not at all.  Trust me on that one.

After mom so politely told him where to shove his comment, mom told him she had checked all of the plugs.  She might have put in a “DOH” somewhere in there but I don’t think he heard her – snorts.  Then dad said the most outrageous thing.  He said, “Well, I guess it’s broken then.”  WOW daddy, you think?  Rolls piggy eyes.

And then when you thought that daddy couldn’t say anything more incredibly stupid, he did.  He said, “Well I guess we will have to take Bacon’s flat screen from his bedroom”.  Whatchu talking about daddy?!  I don’t think so.  You can back away from my flat screen this minute.  Nope. Not going to happen.  Not in a New York piggy minute.  That’s my television.  I jumped up on the bed and got in my fierce mowhawk stance and gave him the best stink eye look I could muster.

Mommy looked at me.  I looked at mommy.  Daddy looked at me.  I looked at daddy.  Then mommy looked at daddy and said, “If you are brave enough to take Bacon’s television, you go right ahead”.  Then there was silence while daddy was thinking.  I know he was thinking.  I could see smoke coming out of his ears – snorts.  I know he was calculating how he could do it without me getting him.  Don’t let this cute adorable face fool you.  I can protect what’s mine – like my television.  Okay.  I might have squealed a little too to enforce I meant business.

Dad finally said, “I think we have another one in the work out room, don’t we?”  That’s right daddy.  Ninja Pig Bacon wins.  You move right along to the work out room and get that television.

Pardon me now my friends.  Green Acres is playing on my television in my bedroom.  I need to go watch it.  Did I mention it was my television?  Snorts.

Spring is Here – YAY!

So I saw this little jingle with the cute little kitty doing a dance and I thought, why not?  It is finally Spring and I am feeling so frisky – in a good way.  I don’t want you to start thinking of me like that.  Nope, no way, not going to happen.  I’m talking frisky as in wanting to run.  You see during the winter months, I have a tendency to just want to sleep and eat… kind of like a hibernation of sorts.  I just don’t feel like running – it’s way too cold for me.

So this weekend, I was on a roll.  I ran around the back yard in my magical kingdom.  I played with mom and we rolled around in the clovers.  We sat for a long time and basked in the sun.  We just ‘hung out’ together and had a great time.

Later in the day, daddy even got the grill out to cook some dinner.  I might have or might have not begged for some chicken.  Hey, it’s what I do.  And by the way, it was delicious.

But then later, we all went inside of the Hotel Thompson.

I remembered the picture of the kitty singing his song so I ran through the front room singing it too.. well what I thought was the words.  Can you believe when I did it, mom and dad almost fell off the sofa because they were laughing so hard?  The nerve of them, huh?  I can’t help it that I resemble my song.  You want to hear it too?  Okay, don’t laugh – pinky promise okay.  Here it goes:

.

“I’m a little teapot short and stout;

Here is my handle, here is my … handle

Darn, I’m a sugar bowl.”.

I Be Running

20130409-084410.jpgComing out of hibernation can be so hard!  I can feel the warmer weather outside and it’s starting to make me a little frisky.  Last night, I ran and ran throughout the house.  I like to treat the halls and rooms at the Hotel Thompson as my personal play ground and exercise gym.

There’s always a method to my play time.  There’s a fuzzy blanket in my bedroom.  I have to go in there first and stretch said fuzzy blanket across the floor.  It’s a king size blanket and when I stretch it, it almost touches wall to wall – snort.  Then I have to go into the front room and take my king size Egyptian cotton sheet and stretch it out across the front room floor.  Then, it’s game time!

I run down the hall, do a lap around my room and high tail it back down the hall to the front room.  Once I’m in the front room, I do an about face and high tail it back down the hall to my bedroom and repeat the process.  I go back and forth and forth and back usually about five to six times.  Then when I’m tired, huffing and puffing, I jump and slide across my blanket rolling myself up in it.  I rest for a few and then repeat the process in my bedroom.

Mom caught this picture above on my final tromp throughout the Hotel Thompson.  I was so tired that I threw myself down on the floor breathing like there was no tomorrow.  Mom actually thought I was going to have a little piggy heart attack.  She stretched out on the floor with me and started talking to me trying to calm me down.  I was talking to her too.  It’s hard coming out of hibernation from the winter!

Spring

20130319-083505.jpg

Do you smell that?  It’s been an entire year since I’ve last smelled nature like that.  It’s finally SPRING!!

It’s time for the flowers to bloom.  It’s time for the animals to start coming back out in the back yard and playing – I can’t wait to see my rabbits again.  It’s time for me to come out of hibernation and start being more active.  And you know what that means – driving mom and dad crazy with my antics at the Hotel Thompson – snort.

20130319-083551.jpg

Spring is a wonderful time of the year.  The weather is better and not so cold.  It’s time to start getting out and going fishing.  Okay – I know.  I gotta get outside into nature before I can start enjoying the outdoor life.  But hey, this could be the year.  I might finally venture into the back yard.  It’s a big back yard and it’s fenced in.  I could actually go out there and play with the bunnies.  But first, maybe I need to get some boots.  I don’t want to step into nature or anything.

Mom says with Spring comes Spring cleaning – that part I don’t like so much.  Especially when she said I had to help.  But hey, I’m more active now so I’ll give it a shot.

Happy Spring my friends!!  XOXO – Bacon

Spring is Around the Corner

20130319-083317.jpgI think this says “EVERYTHING” about what I’m feeling – spring is near and around the corner.

I SO CAN’T WAIT!!  It’s time for this little piggy to come out of some hibernation and start moving again.  I miss the days of running throughout the Hotel Thompson and chasing playing with the purr things.  I just know they’ve missed me too.

And with Spring – you know what else comes – all the wonderful fruits of the season.  Oh, it makes my little mouth water so much.

Is everybody with me on this Spring thing??

XOXO – Bacon

Pig and Seek

20121011-072432.jpgMom came in my room this morning to wake me for breakfast.  She got worried because *I* didn’t wake her up like I usual do.  She looked and didn’t see me.  That’s when she found me playing pig and seek in my sleep – snort giggles.

It got kind of chilly willy last night at the Hotel Thompson.  The season is finally changing and I’m finally hitting some of my hibernation mode.  I was so snuggled in my bed with the blankets pulled up over my snout in dream land.  You ask, “What does a pig dream about?”  I’m glad you asked that.  I dream about, of course, food, running, eating, getting my deep piggy massage, more food and maybe chasing the purr things.  You know, the normal things.

During my little hibernation mode, I sleep really deep as you can tell from this picture.  I like to roll around until I get all of the blankies tucked around me.  As long as my snout has breathing space, I’m good.
