31 Days of Spook – Headless Ghost, Spirit and Swamp Sightings

Welcome back my fellow spooky friends.  Today, hold someone tight – these are true stories from not too far from the Hotel Thompson.

  A HEADLESS GHOST

An Okefenokee area ghost tradition, this one dating to the 1930s, owes its existence to the railroad. A man fishing along the tracks at Henson Creek, near Manor, fell asleep one night with the rails as his pillow. A train appeared, sounding its whistle frantically, but there was no response. Steel wheels kept on rolling, and the fisher person was high landered.

Now for a twist. The legend is that the body can be seen walking the rails at night swinging a phantom lantern in search of its head. Kevin Dial claims that his grandfather went in search of the “shade” one night. Sure enough, it approached, solid white and six feet tall, walking directly toward Gramps, who fired a futile shot before fleeing.

GHOST SPIRIT SIGHTINGS

A log cabin on Okefenokee’s East Side by an area called Camp Cornelia on Trail Ridge is where this haunting took place in the early 1990′s. A former Refuge volunteer, who resided in the cabin, reported strange visitations of Spirits. The Spirits were Native American Indians in full regalia. These spirits were not aware of the walls and boundaries of the cabin, but seemed attached to the land the cabin was on. They seemingly went about their daily tribal existence without concern.

SPECTRES OF THE SWAMP SIGHTING

This one was reported in January 1998 on Trail Ridge, the ancient geological feature which makes up the eastern boundary of the swamp. A traveler on vacation and hiking near the boardwalk area was surprised by the sound of drums in the distant piney woods. Native American spectres carrying objects and walking swiftly in a single file line were sighted off in the distance heading south on the ridge. The vacationer did not linger long to watch the procession. He reported no sense of hostility, but felt uneasy as if he was seeing something he should not be observing.

Shout out to our friends from Okefenokee – special hello’s to Steve, Jo and their black cat Tequila.  They gave me special permission to use their stories and pictures from the Okefenokee Pastimes Inc.

Choices – Choices – Choices

Monday brings us a lot of choices in life.  It’s the first day of the work week and it starts the ‘feel’ and groove of the new week.  It’s another week to start over and fresh.  It’s also a great night for television which leads us to choices – choices and more choices.  And tonight, we have a dilemma at the Hotel Thompson.

Choice A –

Being Human airs on the SyFy channel.  Great show. This show is going on the fourth season and we’ve watched every episode.  It’s good.  There’s Aidan Waite (a vampire), Sally Malik (a ghost), Josh Levison and Nora Sergeant (werewolves).  They all live together and their lives have all intertwined with each other through friendship and surviving their individual ‘characteristics’ that they bring to the show.  Season 3 ended with a blast in the title “Ruh Roh”.  We have a loose end, Kenny, that can still come back.  Liam is gone – so there goes the pure breeds.  Sally is now in what should we say – purgatory – with Donna.  Josh is again a wolf but there’s some connection to Donna.  And, in the last shot of this episode, we see someone that looks like Suzanna (Aidan’s wife) appearing on screen.  WTP (What the pig)!?  Exciting – totally exciting this fourth season is going to be.

.

Choice B –

Sleepy Hollow airs on the Fox network tonight. This is the first season for this show and tonight is the season finale – two hours.  Hopefully tonight will tie up some loose ends.  What happened to Ichabob’s son? How does Abbie play into everything?  The show is actually broken into two shows – hour one is titled The Indispensable Man and hour two is titled Bad Blood.  Sacrifices are made and loyalties are tested – that’s what I’m reading about that should happen.  How in the world could we miss this??

.

So choices – choices – choices.  They both come on at the same time.  I don’t have a DVR.  I have to pick one over the other which is so hard.  And, I don’t want to flip back and forth – I would definitely miss something.  You gotta help me out.  What’s a little piggy to do?  Run back and forth from the living room to my bedroom trying to watch both?  I need some help my friends.  What will YOU be watching?

A New Show I’m Watching

So, I’ve started watching this new series on television.  It comes on the Fox channel at 9:00PM on Monday nights.  It’s called… are you ready?  Sleepy Hollow – insert spooky music here.

This past Monday was the first episode.  If you loved the original Legend of Sleepy Hollow by Washington Irving, you will probably love this as well.  This new series is like a modern day version of the fairy tale fantasy.  I had doubts before watching the show but after the first episode – I’m hooked – hooves and all!

This new show has everything – suspense, drama, witchcraft, adventure, thriller and a headless horseman.  Who could ask for anything more?

The show, of course, revolves around a resurrected Headless Horseman, Ichabod Crane and Lieutenant Abbie Mills in 2013 Sleepy Hollow, New York.

As Ichabod Crane, can you imagine waking up to the 21st century when all you remember is 18th century Colonial America?  Technology alone mystifies poor Crane.  There is even some humor in these clips, especially when he gets in a car and starts playing with the windows – up/down/down/up – too funny.

If you get a chance, you must check out this show and see what you think.  We at the Hotel Thompson are hooked on the first episode.  I did hear on the television this morning that there will be some reshows of the pilot tonight.  Check your television guides.

The second episode titled Blood Moon will be on September 23, 2013 at 9:00PM.

Of course, this little piggy has his thoughts on who in the show is bad and who is good already.  I can’t wait to watch future shows to see if I’m right.  Please let me know what you think.  XOXO – Bacon
